Chapter 19
1
Phonetic (Greek): Kai egeneto hote etelesen ho Ἰesoys toys logous toytous, meteren apo tes Galilaias kai elthen eis ta horia tes Ἰoudaias peran toy Ἰordanou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.

Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοὺς λόγους τούτους, μετῆρεν ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὰ ὅρια τῆς Ἰουδαίας πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ekoloythesan aytῷ ochloi polloi, kai etherapeusen aytoys ekei.
Edified Edition (EDE)And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

καὶ ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοί, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτοὺς ἐκεῖ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai proselthon ⸀aytῷ Pharisaioi peirazontes ayton kai ⸀legontes· Ei exestin ⸀anthropῳ apolysai ten gynaika aytoy kata pasan aitian;
Edified Edition (EDE)The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?"

Καὶ προσῆλθον ⸀αὐτῷ Φαρισαῖοι πειράζοντες αὐτὸν καὶ ⸀λέγοντες· Εἰ ἔξεστιν ⸀ἀνθρώπῳ ἀπολῦσαι τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ κατὰ πᾶσαν αἰτίαν;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de apokritheis ⸀eipen· Oyk anegnote hoti ho ⸀ktisas apʼ arches arsen kai thely epoiesen aytoys
Edified Edition (EDE)And He answered and said to them, [JESUS]"Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,'"[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς ⸀εἶπεν· Οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ὅτι ὁ ⸀κτίσας ἀπʼ ἀρχῆς ἄρσεν καὶ θῆλυ ἐποίησεν αὐτοὺς

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen· ⸀Ἕneka toytou kataleipsei anthropos ton patera kai ten metera kai ⸀kollethesetai tῇ gynaiki aytoy, kai esontai ohi dyo eis sarka mian;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?[/JESUS]

καὶ εἶπεν· ⸀Ἕνεκα τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ ⸀κολληθήσεται τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δύο εἰς σάρκα μίαν;

Phonetic (Greek): hoste oyketi eisin dyo alla sarx mia. ho oyn ho theos synezeuxen anthropos me chorizeto.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."[/JESUS]

ὥστε οὐκέτι εἰσὶν δύο ἀλλὰ σὰρξ μία. ὃ οὖν ὁ θεὸς συνέζευξεν ἄνθρωπος μὴ χωριζέτω.

Phonetic (Greek): legousin aytῷ· Ti oyn Moyses eneteilato doynai biblion apostasiou kai apolysai ⸀ayten;
Edified Edition (EDE)They say to him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Τί οὖν Μωϋσῆς ἐνετείλατο δοῦναι βιβλίον ἀποστασίου καὶ ἀπολῦσαι ⸀αὐτήν;

Phonetic (Greek): legei aytois hoti Moyses pros ten sklerokardian hymon epetrepsen hymin apolysai tas gynaikas hymon, apʼ arches de oy gegonen ohytos.
Edified Edition (EDE)He says to them, [JESUS]"Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so."[/JESUS]

λέγει αὐτοῖς ὅτι Μωϋσῆς πρὸς τὴν σκληροκαρδίαν ὑμῶν ἐπέτρεψεν ὑμῖν ἀπολῦσαι τὰς γυναῖκας ὑμῶν, ἀπʼ ἀρχῆς δὲ οὐ γέγονεν οὕτως.

Phonetic (Greek): lego de hymin ⸀hoti hos an apolysῃ ten gynaika aytoy me epi porneiᾳ kai gamesῃ allen moichatai ⸂kai ho apolelymenen gamesas moichatai⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And I say to you, whoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoever marries her which is put away does commit adultery."[/JESUS]

λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ⸀ὅτι ὃς ἂν ἀπολύσῃ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ μὴ ἐπὶ πορνείᾳ καὶ γαμήσῃ ἄλλην μοιχᾶται ⸂καὶ ὁ ἀπολελυμένην γαμήσας μοιχᾶται⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): Legousin aytῷ ohi ⸀mathetai· Ei ohytos estin he aitia toy anthropou meta tes gynaikos, oy sympherei gamesai.
Edified Edition (EDE)His disciples say to him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.

Λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ ⸀μαθηταί· Εἰ οὕτως ἐστὶν ἡ αἰτία τοῦ ἀνθρώπου μετὰ τῆς γυναικός, οὐ συμφέρει γαμῆσαι.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen aytois· Oy pantes choroysi ton logon ⸀toyton allʼ ohis dedotai.
Edified Edition (EDE)But He said to them, [JESUS]"All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given.[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐ πάντες χωροῦσι τὸν λόγον ⸀τοῦτον ἀλλʼ οἷς δέδοται.

Phonetic (Greek): eisin gar eynoychoi ohitines ek koilias metros egennethesan ohytos, kai eisin eynoychoi ohitines eynouchisthesan hypo ton anthropon, kai eisin eynoychoi ohitines eynoychisan heautoys dia ten basileian ton oyranon. ho dynamenos chorein choreito.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it."[/JESUS]

εἰσὶν γὰρ εὐνοῦχοι οἵτινες ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς ἐγεννήθησαν οὕτως, καὶ εἰσὶν εὐνοῦχοι οἵτινες εὐνουχίσθησαν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων, καὶ εἰσὶν εὐνοῦχοι οἵτινες εὐνούχισαν ἑαυτοὺς διὰ τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν. ὁ δυνάμενος χωρεῖν χωρείτω.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote ⸀prosenechthesan aytῷ paidia hina tas cheiras epithῇ aytois kai proseyxetai· ohi de mathetai epetimesan aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then were there brought to him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.

Τότε ⸀προσηνέχθησαν αὐτῷ παιδία ἵνα τὰς χεῖρας ἐπιθῇ αὐτοῖς καὶ προσεύξηται· οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ ἐπετίμησαν αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de Ἰesoys eipen· Ἄphete ta paidia kai me kolyete ayta elthein pros me, ton gar toioyton estin he basileia ton oyranon.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus said, [JESUS]"Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Ἄφετε τὰ παιδία καὶ μὴ κωλύετε αὐτὰ ἐλθεῖν πρός με, τῶν γὰρ τοιούτων ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai epitheis ⸂tas cheiras aytois⸃ eporeythe ekeithen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

καὶ ἐπιθεὶς ⸂τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῖς⸃ ἐπορεύθη ἐκεῖθεν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai idoy ehis proselthon ⸂aytῷ eipen⸃· ⸀Didaskale, ti agathon poieso hina ⸀scho zoen aionion;
Edified Edition (EDE)And, behold, one came and said to him, "Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"

Καὶ ἰδοὺ εἷς προσελθὼν ⸂αὐτῷ εἶπεν⸃· ⸀Διδάσκαλε, τί ἀγαθὸν ποιήσω ἵνα ⸀σχῶ ζωὴν αἰώνιον;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen aytῷ· Ti me ⸂erotᾷs peri toy agathoy; ehis estin ho agathos⸃· ei de theleis ⸂eis ten zoen eiselthein⸃, ⸀tereson tas entolas.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to him, [JESUS]"Why callest you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if you will enter into life, keep the commandments."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Τί με ⸂ἐρωτᾷς περὶ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ; εἷς ἐστιν ὁ ἀγαθός⸃· εἰ δὲ θέλεις ⸂εἰς τὴν ζωὴν εἰσελθεῖν⸃, ⸀τήρησον τὰς ἐντολάς.

Phonetic (Greek): legei aytῷ· Poias; ho de Ἰesoys ⸀eipen· To Oy phoneyseis, Oy moicheyseis, Oy klepseis, Oy pseudomartyreseis,
Edified Edition (EDE)He says to him, Which? Jesus said, [JESUS]"you will do no murder, you will not commit adultery, you will not steal, you will not bear false witness,"[/JESUS]

λέγει αὐτῷ· Ποίας; ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸀εἶπεν· Τὸ Οὐ φονεύσεις, Οὐ μοιχεύσεις, Οὐ κλέψεις, Οὐ ψευδομαρτυρήσεις,

Phonetic (Greek): Tima ton patera kai ten metera, kai Ἀgapeseis ton plesion sou hos seauton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Honour your father and your mother: and, you will love your neighbour as yourself."[/JESUS]

Τίμα τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὴν μητέρα, καὶ Ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): legei aytῷ ho neaniskos· ⸂Panta tayta⸃ ⸀ephylaxa· ti eti hystero;
Edified Edition (EDE)The young man says to him, "All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?"

λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ νεανίσκος· ⸂Πάντα ταῦτα⸃ ⸀ἐφύλαξα· τί ἔτι ὑστερῶ;

Phonetic (Greek): ephe aytῷ ho Ἰesoys· Ei theleis teleios einai, hypage poleson sou ta hyparchonta kai ⸀dos ptochois, kai hexeis thesauron en ⸀oyranois, kai deyro akoloythei moi.
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."[/JESUS]

ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Εἰ θέλεις τέλειος εἶναι, ὕπαγε πώλησόν σου τὰ ὑπάρχοντα καὶ ⸀δὸς πτωχοῖς, καὶ ἕξεις θησαυρὸν ἐν ⸀οὐρανοῖς, καὶ δεῦρο ἀκολούθει μοι.

Phonetic (Greek): akoysas de ho neaniskos ton ⸀logon apelthen lypoymenos, en gar echon ktemata polla.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when the young man heard that saying, "he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions."

ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ νεανίσκος τὸν ⸀λόγον ἀπῆλθεν λυπούμενος, ἦν γὰρ ἔχων κτήματα πολλά.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ de Ἰesoys eipen tois mathetais aytoy· Ἀmen lego hymin hoti ⸂ploysios dyskolos⸃ eiseleysetai eis ten basileian ton oyranon·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to His disciples, [JESUS]"Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.[/JESUS]

Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ⸂πλούσιος δυσκόλως⸃ εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν·

Phonetic (Greek): palin de lego hymin, eykopoteron estin kamelon dia ⸀trypematos ῥaphidos ⸀eiselthein e ploysion ⸂eis ten basileian toy theoy⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."[/JESUS]

πάλιν δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν, εὐκοπώτερόν ἐστιν κάμηλον διὰ ⸀τρυπήματος ῥαφίδος ⸀εἰσελθεῖν ἢ πλούσιον ⸂εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): akoysantes de ohi ⸀mathetai exeplessonto sphodra legontes· Tis ara dynatai sothenai;
Edified Edition (EDE)When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, "Who then can be saved?"

ἀκούσαντες δὲ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ ἐξεπλήσσοντο σφόδρα λέγοντες· Τίς ἄρα δύναται σωθῆναι;

Phonetic (Greek): emblepsas de ho Ἰesoys eipen aytois· Para anthropois toyto adynaton estin, para de theῷ panta dynata.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus looked at them and said to them, [JESUS]"With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."[/JESUS]

ἐμβλέψας δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Παρὰ ἀνθρώποις τοῦτο ἀδύνατόν ἐστιν, παρὰ δὲ θεῷ πάντα δυνατά.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote apokritheis ho Petros eipen aytῷ· Ἰdoy hemeis aphekamen panta kai ekolouthesamen soi· ti ara estai hemin;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then answered Peter and said to him, "Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed you; what shall we have therefore?"

Τότε ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Πέτρος εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφήκαμεν πάντα καὶ ἠκολουθήσαμέν σοι· τί ἄρα ἔσται ἡμῖν;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de Ἰesoys eipen aytois· Ἀmen lego hymin hoti hymeis ohi akolouthesantes moi en tῇ palingenesiᾳ, hotan kathisῃ ho yhios toy anthropou epi thronou doxes aytoy, ⸀kathesesthe kai ⸀hymeis epi dodeka thronous krinontes tas dodeka phylas toy Ἰsrael.
Edified Edition (EDE)So Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ὑμεῖς οἱ ἀκολουθήσαντές μοι ἐν τῇ παλιγγενεσίᾳ, ὅταν καθίσῃ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐπὶ θρόνου δόξης αὐτοῦ, ⸀καθήσεσθε καὶ ⸀ὑμεῖς ἐπὶ δώδεκα θρόνους κρίνοντες τὰς δώδεκα φυλὰς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai pas ⸀hostis apheken ⸂oikias e⸃ adelphoys e adelphas e patera e metera e ⸂gynaika e⸃ tekna e ⸀agroys heneken toy ⸂onomatos mou⸃, ⸀hekatontaplasiona lempsetai kai zoen aionion kleronomesei.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And every one that has forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."[/JESUS]

καὶ πᾶς ⸀ὅστις ἀφῆκεν ⸂οἰκίας ἢ⸃ ἀδελφοὺς ἢ ἀδελφὰς ἢ πατέρα ἢ μητέρα ἢ ⸂γυναῖκα ἢ⸃ τέκνα ἢ ⸀ἀγροὺς ἕνεκεν τοῦ ⸂ὀνόματός μου⸃, ⸀ἑκατονταπλασίονα λήμψεται καὶ ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσει.

Phonetic (Greek): polloi de esontai protoi eschatoi kai eschatoi protoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]But many who are first will be last, and the last first."[/JESUS]

πολλοὶ δὲ ἔσονται πρῶτοι ἔσχατοι καὶ ἔσχατοι πρῶτοι.
