Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said:

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς πάλιν εἶπεν ⸂ἐν παραβολαῖς αὐτοῖς⸃ λέγων·

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,"[/JESUS]

Ὡμοιώθη ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀνθρώπῳ βασιλεῖ, ὅστις ἐποίησεν γάμους τῷ υἱῷ αὐτοῦ.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come."[/JESUS]

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ καλέσαι τοὺς κεκλημένους εἰς τοὺς γάμους, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελον ἐλθεῖν.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell those who are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage."[/JESUS]

πάλιν ἀπέστειλεν ἄλλους δούλους λέγων· Εἴπατε τοῖς κεκλημένοις· Ἰδοὺ τὸ ἄριστόν μου ⸀ἡτοίμακα, οἱ ταῦροί μου καὶ τὰ σιτιστὰ τεθυμένα, καὶ πάντα ἕτοιμα· δεῦτε εἰς τοὺς γάμους.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:"[/JESUS]

οἱ δὲ ἀμελήσαντες ἀπῆλθον, ⸀ὃς μὲν εἰς τὸν ἴδιον ἀγρόν, ⸁ὃς δὲ ⸀ἐπὶ τὴν ἐμπορίαν αὐτοῦ·

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them."[/JESUS]

οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ κρατήσαντες τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ὕβρισαν καὶ ἀπέκτειναν.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But when the king heard thereof, he was angry: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city."[/JESUS]

⸂ὁ δὲ βασιλεὺς⸃ ὠργίσθη, καὶ πέμψας τὰ στρατεύματα αὐτοῦ ἀπώλεσεν τοὺς φονεῖς ἐκείνους καὶ τὴν πόλιν αὐτῶν ἐνέπρησεν.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Then says he to his servants, "The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy."[/JESUS]"

τότε λέγει τοῖς δούλοις αὐτοῦ· Ὁ μὲν γάμος ἕτοιμός ἐστιν, οἱ δὲ κεκλημένοι οὐκ ἦσαν ἄξιοι·

Phonetic (Greek): poreyesthe oyn epi tas diexodous ton hodon, kai hosous ⸀ean ehyrete kalesate eis toys gamous.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Go you therefore into the highways, and as many as you shall find, bid to the marriage."[/JESUS]

πορεύεσθε οὖν ἐπὶ τὰς διεξόδους τῶν ὁδῶν, καὶ ὅσους ⸀ἐὰν εὕρητε καλέσατε εἰς τοὺς γάμους.

Phonetic (Greek): kai exelthontes ohi doyloi ekeinoi eis tas hodoys synegagon pantas ⸀ohys ehyron, poneroys te kai agathoys· kai eplesthe ho ⸀gamos anakeimenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests."[/JESUS]

καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ δοῦλοι ἐκεῖνοι εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς συνήγαγον πάντας ⸀οὓς εὗρον, πονηρούς τε καὶ ἀγαθούς· καὶ ἐπλήσθη ὁ ⸀γάμος ἀνακειμένων.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:"[/JESUS]

εἰσελθὼν δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς θεάσασθαι τοὺς ἀνακειμένους εἶδεν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπον οὐκ ἐνδεδυμένον ἔνδυμα γάμου·

Phonetic (Greek): kai legei aytῷ· Ἑtaire, pos eiselthes hode me echon endyma gamou; ho de ephimothe.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And he says to him, "Friend, how came you in Here not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless."[/JESUS]"

καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Ἑταῖρε, πῶς εἰσῆλθες ὧδε μὴ ἔχων ἔνδυμα γάμου; ὁ δὲ ἐφιμώθη.

Phonetic (Greek): tote ⸂ho basileys eipen⸃ tois diakonois· Desantes aytoy podas kai cheiras ⸂ekbalete ayton⸃ eis to skotos to exoteron· ekei estai ho klauthmos kai ho brygmos ton odonton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Then said the king to the servants, "Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."[/JESUS]"

τότε ⸂ὁ βασιλεὺς εἶπεν⸃ τοῖς διακόνοις· Δήσαντες αὐτοῦ πόδας καὶ χεῖρας ⸂ἐκβάλετε αὐτὸν⸃ εἰς τὸ σκότος τὸ ἐξώτερον· ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For many are called, but few are chosen."[/JESUS]

πολλοὶ γάρ εἰσιν κλητοὶ ὀλίγοι δὲ ἐκλεκτοί.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote poreuthentes ohi Pharisaioi symboylion elabon hopos ayton pagideysosin en logῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.

Τότε πορευθέντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συμβούλιον ἔλαβον ὅπως αὐτὸν παγιδεύσωσιν ἐν λόγῳ.

Edified Edition (EDE)And they sent out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that you are true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest you for any man: for you regardest not the person of men."

καὶ ἀποστέλλουσιν αὐτῷ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτῶν μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν ⸀λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ἀληθὴς εἶ καὶ τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν ἀληθείᾳ διδάσκεις, καὶ οὐ μέλει σοι περὶ οὐδενός, οὐ γὰρ βλέπεις εἰς πρόσωπον ἀνθρώπων·

Phonetic (Greek): eipon oyn hemin ti soi dokei· exestin doynai kenson Kaisari e oy;
Edified Edition (EDE)Tell us therefore, What thinkest you? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

εἰπὸν οὖν ἡμῖν τί σοι δοκεῖ· ἔξεστιν δοῦναι κῆνσον Καίσαρι ἢ οὔ;

Phonetic (Greek): gnoys de ho Ἰesoys ten ponerian ayton eipen· Ti me peirazete, hypokritai;
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, [JESUS]"Why do you test Me, you hypocrites?[/JESUS]

γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὴν πονηρίαν αὐτῶν εἶπεν· Τί με πειράζετε, ὑποκριταί;

Phonetic (Greek): epideixate moi to nomisma toy kensou. ohi de prosenenkan aytῷ denarion.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]Show Me the tax money."[/JESUS] So they brought Him a denarius.

ἐπιδείξατέ μοι τὸ νόμισμα τοῦ κήνσου. οἱ δὲ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δηνάριον.

Phonetic (Greek): kai legei aytois· Tinos he eikon ahyte kai he epigraphe;
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"Whose image and inscription is this?"[/JESUS]

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Τίνος ἡ εἰκὼν αὕτη καὶ ἡ ἐπιγραφή;

Phonetic (Greek): legousin ⸀aytῷ· Kaisaros. tote legei aytois· Ἀpodote oyn ta Kaisaros Kaisari kai ta toy theoy tῷ theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)They said to Him, "Caesar’s." And He said to them, [JESUS]"Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s."[/JESUS]

λέγουσιν ⸀αὐτῷ· Καίσαρος. τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς· Ἀπόδοτε οὖν τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῷ θεῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai akoysantes ethaymasan, kai aphentes ayton apelthan.
Edified Edition (EDE)When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

καὶ ἀκούσαντες ἐθαύμασαν, καὶ ἀφέντες αὐτὸν ἀπῆλθαν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐn ekeinῃ tῇ hemerᾳ proselthon aytῷ Saddoukaioi, ⸀legontes me einai anastasin, kai eperotesan ayton
Edified Edition (EDE)The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

Ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ Σαδδουκαῖοι, ⸀λέγοντες μὴ εἶναι ἀνάστασιν, καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν

Phonetic (Greek): legontes· Didaskale, Moyses eipen· Ἐan tis apothanῃ me echon tekna, epigambreysei ho adelphos aytoy ten gynaika aytoy kai anastesei sperma tῷ adelphῷ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, "Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother."

λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, Μωϋσῆς εἶπεν· Ἐάν τις ἀποθάνῃ μὴ ἔχων τέκνα, ἐπιγαμβρεύσει ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναστήσει σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): esan de parʼ hemin hepta adelphoi· kai ho protos ⸀gemas eteleytesen, kai me echon sperma apheken ten gynaika aytoy tῷ adelphῷ aytoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now there were with us seven brothers: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife to his brother:

ἦσαν δὲ παρʼ ἡμῖν ἑπτὰ ἀδελφοί· καὶ ὁ πρῶτος ⸀γήμας ἐτελεύτησεν, καὶ μὴ ἔχων σπέρμα ἀφῆκεν τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): homoios kai ho deyteros kai ho tritos, heos ton hepta·
Edified Edition (EDE)Likewise the second also, and the third, to the seventh.

ὁμοίως καὶ ὁ δεύτερος καὶ ὁ τρίτος, ἕως τῶν ἑπτά·

Edified Edition (EDE)And last of all the woman died also.

ὕστερον δὲ πάντων ἀπέθανεν ⸀ἡ γυνή.

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

ἐν τῇ ⸂ἀναστάσει οὖν⸃ τίνος τῶν ἑπτὰ ἔσται γυνή; πάντες γὰρ ἔσχον αὐτήν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀpokritheis de ho Ἰesoys eipen aytois· Planasthe me eidotes tas graphas mede ten dynamin toy theoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus answered and said to them, [JESUS]"You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.[/JESUS]

Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Πλανᾶσθε μὴ εἰδότες τὰς γραφὰς μηδὲ τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ θεοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): en gar tῇ anastasei oyte gamoysin oyte ⸀gamizontai, allʼ hos angeloi ⸀theoy en ⸀tῷ oyranῷ eisin·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven."[/JESUS]

ἐν γὰρ τῇ ἀναστάσει οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε ⸀γαμίζονται, ἀλλʼ ὡς ἄγγελοι ⸀θεοῦ ἐν ⸀τῷ οὐρανῷ εἰσιν·

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying:[/JESUS]

περὶ δὲ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῶν νεκρῶν οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑμῖν ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ λέγοντος·

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐgo eimi ho theos Ἀbraam kai ho theos Ἰsaak kai ho theos Ἰakob; oyk estin ⸂ho theos⸃ nekron alla zonton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."[/JESUS]

Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ θεὸς Ἀβραὰμ καὶ ὁ θεὸς Ἰσαὰκ καὶ ὁ θεὸς Ἰακώβ; οὐκ ἔστιν ⸂ὁ θεὸς⸃ νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων.

Phonetic (Greek): kai akoysantes ohi ochloi exeplessonto epi tῇ didachῇ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ ὄχλοι ἐξεπλήσσοντο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ.

Edified Edition (EDE)But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

Οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἀκούσαντες ὅτι ἐφίμωσεν τοὺς Σαδδουκαίους συνήχθησαν ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, "tempting him, and saying,"

καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν νομικὸς πειράζων ⸀αὐτόν·

Edified Edition (EDE)Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Διδάσκαλε, ποία ἐντολὴ μεγάλη ἐν τῷ νόμῳ;

Phonetic (Greek): ho ⸀de ephe aytῷ· Ἀgapeseis kyrion ton theon sou en holῃ ⸀tῇ kardiᾳ sou kai en holῃ ⸁tῇ psychῇ sou kai en holῃ tῇ dianoiᾳ sou·
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'[/JESUS]

ὁ ⸀δὲ ἔφη αὐτῷ· Ἀγαπήσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου ἐν ὅλῃ ⸀τῇ καρδίᾳ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ ⸁τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου·

Phonetic (Greek): ahyte estin ⸂he megale kai prote⸃ entole.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]This is the first and great commandment.[/JESUS]

αὕτη ἐστὶν ⸂ἡ μεγάλη καὶ πρώτη⸃ ἐντολή.

Phonetic (Greek): Deutera ⸀de homoia ⸀aytῇ· Ἀgapeseis ton plesion sou hos seauton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbour as yourself.'[/JESUS]

Δευτέρα ⸀δὲ ὁμοία ⸀αὐτῇ· Ἀγαπήσεις τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): en taytais tais dysin entolais holos ho nomos ⸂krematai kai ohi prophetai⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."[/JESUS]

ἐν ταύταις ταῖς δυσὶν ἐντολαῖς ὅλος ὁ νόμος ⸂κρέμαται καὶ οἱ προφῆται⸃.

Edified Edition (EDE)While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

Συνηγμένων δὲ τῶν Φαρισαίων ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ Ἰησοῦς

Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, [JESUS]"What think you of Christ? whose son is he?"[/JESUS] They say to him, The Son of David.

λέγων· Τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ περὶ τοῦ χριστοῦ; τίνος υἱός ἐστιν; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Τοῦ Δαυίδ.

Edified Edition (EDE)He says to them, [JESUS]"How then does David in spirit call him Lord, saying,"[/JESUS]

λέγει αὐτοῖς· Πῶς οὖν Δαυὶδ ἐν πνεύματι ⸂καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον⸃ λέγων·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Eipen kyrios tῷ kyriῳ mou· Kathou ek dexion mou heos an tho toys echthroys sou ⸀hypokato ton podon sou;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit you on my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool?"[/JESUS]"

⸀Εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ⸀ὑποκάτω τῶν ποδῶν σου;

Phonetic (Greek): ei oyn Dauid kalei ayton kyrion, pos yhios aytoy estin;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?"[/JESUS]

εἰ οὖν Δαυὶδ καλεῖ αὐτὸν κύριον, πῶς υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἐστιν;

Phonetic (Greek): kai oydeis edynato ⸂apokrithenai aytῷ⸃ logon, oyde etolmesen tis apʼ ekeines tes hemeras eperotesai ayton oyketi.
Edified Edition (EDE)And no man was able to answer him a word, neither dared any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐδύνατο ⸂ἀποκριθῆναι αὐτῷ⸃ λόγον, οὐδὲ ἐτόλμησέν τις ἀπʼ ἐκείνης τῆς ἡμέρας ἐπερωτῆσαι αὐτὸν οὐκέτι.
