Edified Edition (EDE)Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples,

Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς πάντας τοὺς λόγους τούτους, εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ·

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified."[/JESUS]

Οἴδατε ὅτι μετὰ δύο ἡμέρας τὸ πάσχα γίνεται, καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς τὸ σταυρωθῆναι.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote synechthesan ohi ⸀archiereis kai ohi presbyteroi toy laoy eis ten aylen toy archiereos toy legomenou Kaiapha,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, to the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

Τότε συνήχθησαν οἱ ⸀ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως τοῦ λεγομένου Καϊάφα,

Phonetic (Greek): kai synebouleysanto hina ton Ἰesoyn dolῳ kratesosin kai apokteinosin·
Edified Edition (EDE)And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

καὶ συνεβουλεύσαντο ἵνα τὸν Ἰησοῦν δόλῳ κρατήσωσιν καὶ ἀποκτείνωσιν·

Phonetic (Greek): elegon de· Me en tῇ heortῇ, hina me thorybos genetai en tῷ laῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But they said, "Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people."

ἔλεγον δέ· Μὴ ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ, ἵνα μὴ θόρυβος γένηται ἐν τῷ λαῷ.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

Τοῦ δὲ Ἰησοῦ γενομένου ἐν Βηθανίᾳ ἐν οἰκίᾳ Σίμωνος τοῦ λεπροῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): proselthen aytῷ gyne ⸂echousa alabastron myrou⸃ barytimou kai katecheen epi ⸂tes kephales⸃ aytoy anakeimenou.
Edified Edition (EDE)There came to him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ γυνὴ ⸂ἔχουσα ἀλάβαστρον μύρου⸃ βαρυτίμου καὶ κατέχεεν ἐπὶ ⸂τῆς κεφαλῆς⸃ αὐτοῦ ἀνακειμένου.

Phonetic (Greek): idontes de ohi ⸀mathetai eganaktesan legontes· Eis ti he apoleia ahyte;
Edified Edition (EDE)But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, "To what purpose is this waste?"

ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ ἠγανάκτησαν λέγοντες· Εἰς τί ἡ ἀπώλεια αὕτη;

Phonetic (Greek): edynato gar ⸀toyto prathenai polloy kai dothenai ptochois.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

ἐδύνατο γὰρ ⸀τοῦτο πραθῆναι πολλοῦ καὶ δοθῆναι πτωχοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): gnoys de ho Ἰesoys eipen aytois· Ti kopous parechete tῇ gynaiki; ergon gar kalon ergasato eis eme·
Edified Edition (EDE)But when Jesus was aware of it, He said to them, [JESUS]"Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me.[/JESUS]

γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τί κόπους παρέχετε τῇ γυναικί; ἔργον γὰρ καλὸν ἠργάσατο εἰς ἐμέ·

Phonetic (Greek): pantote gar toys ptochoys echete methʼ heauton, eme de oy pantote echete·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always."[/JESUS]

πάντοτε γὰρ τοὺς πτωχοὺς ἔχετε μεθʼ ἑαυτῶν, ἐμὲ δὲ οὐ πάντοτε ἔχετε·

Phonetic (Greek): baloysa gar ahyte to myron toyto epi toy somatos mou pros to entaphiasai me epoiesen.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial."[/JESUS]

βαλοῦσα γὰρ αὕτη τὸ μύρον τοῦτο ἐπὶ τοῦ σώματός μου πρὸς τὸ ἐνταφιάσαι με ἐποίησεν.

Phonetic (Greek): amen lego hymin, hopou ean kerychthῇ to eyangelion toyto en holῳ tῷ kosmῳ, lalethesetai kai ho epoiesen ahyte eis mnemosynon aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."[/JESUS]

ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὅπου ἐὰν κηρυχθῇ τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦτο ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ κόσμῳ, λαληθήσεται καὶ ὃ ἐποίησεν αὕτη εἰς μνημόσυνον αὐτῆς.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests,

Τότε πορευθεὶς εἷς τῶν δώδεκα, ὁ λεγόμενος Ἰούδας Ἰσκαριώτης, πρὸς τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς

Phonetic (Greek): eipen· Ti thelete moi doynai kago hymin paradoso ayton; ohi de estesan aytῷ triakonta argyria.
Edified Edition (EDE)And said to them, "What will you give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver."

εἶπεν· Τί θέλετέ μοι δοῦναι κἀγὼ ὑμῖν παραδώσω αὐτόν; οἱ δὲ ἔστησαν αὐτῷ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια.

Edified Edition (EDE)And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

καὶ ἀπὸ τότε ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν ἵνα αὐτὸν παραδῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): Tῇ de protῃ ton azymon proselthon ohi mathetai tῷ Ἰesoy ⸀legontes· Poy theleis ⸀hetoimasomen soi phagein to pascha;
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to him, "Where will you that we prepare for you to eat the passover?"

Τῇ δὲ πρώτῃ τῶν ἀζύμων προσῆλθον οἱ μαθηταὶ τῷ Ἰησοῦ ⸀λέγοντες· Ποῦ θέλεις ⸀ἑτοιμάσωμέν σοι φαγεῖν τὸ πάσχα;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen· Ὑpagete eis ten polin pros ton deina kai eipate aytῷ· Ὁ didaskalos legei· Ὁ kairos mou engys estin· pros se poio to pascha meta ton matheton mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said, [JESUS]"Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, 'The Teacher says: "My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples."'"[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Ὑπάγετε εἰς τὴν πόλιν πρὸς τὸν δεῖνα καὶ εἴπατε αὐτῷ· Ὁ διδάσκαλος λέγει· Ὁ καιρός μου ἐγγύς ἐστιν· πρὸς σὲ ποιῶ τὸ πάσχα μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν μου.

Phonetic (Greek): kai epoiesan ohi mathetai hos synetaxen aytois ho Ἰesoys, kai hetoimasan to pascha.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ μαθηταὶ ὡς συνέταξεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τὸ πάσχα.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ἀνέκειτο μετὰ τῶν δώδεκα ⸀μαθητῶν

Phonetic (Greek): kai esthionton ayton eipen· Ἀmen lego hymin hoti ehis ex hymon paradosei me.
Edified Edition (EDE)And as they did eat, he said, [JESUS]"Truly I tell you, that one of you shall betray me."[/JESUS]

καὶ ἐσθιόντων αὐτῶν εἶπεν· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἷς ἐξ ὑμῶν παραδώσει με.

Phonetic (Greek): kai lypoymenoi sphodra erxanto legein aytῷ ⸂ehis hekastos⸃· Meti ego eimi, kyrie;
Edified Edition (EDE)And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say to him, Lord, is it I?

καὶ λυπούμενοι σφόδρα ἤρξαντο λέγειν αὐτῷ ⸂εἷς ἕκαστος⸃· Μήτι ἐγώ εἰμι, κύριε;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de apokritheis eipen· Ὁ embapsas metʼ emoy ⸂ten cheira en tῷ trybliῳ⸃ ohytos me paradosei·
Edified Edition (EDE)And he answered and said, [JESUS]"He that dipps his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Ὁ ἐμβάψας μετʼ ἐμοῦ ⸂τὴν χεῖρα ἐν τῷ τρυβλίῳ⸃ οὗτός με παραδώσει·

Phonetic (Greek): ho men yhios toy anthropou hypagei kathos gegraptai peri aytoy, oyai de tῷ anthropῳ ekeinῳ diʼ ohy ho yhios toy anthropou paradidotai· kalon en aytῷ ei oyk egennethe ho anthropos ekeinos.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The Son of man goes as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born."[/JESUS]

ὁ μὲν υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὑπάγει καθὼς γέγραπται περὶ αὐτοῦ, οὐαὶ δὲ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐκείνῳ διʼ οὗ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται· καλὸν ἦν αὐτῷ εἰ οὐκ ἐγεννήθη ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἐκεῖνος.

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de Ἰoydas ho paradidoys ayton eipen· Meti ego eimi, ῥabbi; legei aytῷ· Sy eipas.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said to him, [JESUS]"You have said it."[/JESUS]

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ἰούδας ὁ παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν εἶπεν· Μήτι ἐγώ εἰμι, ῥαββί; λέγει αὐτῷ· Σὺ εἶπας.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐsthionton de ayton labon ho Ἰesoys ⸀arton kai ⸀eylogesas eklasen kai ⸂doys tois mathetais⸃ eipen· Labete phagete, toyto estin to soma mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, [JESUS]"Take, eat; this is My body."[/JESUS]

Ἐσθιόντων δὲ αὐτῶν λαβὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸀ἄρτον καὶ ⸀εὐλογήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ⸂δοὺς τοῖς μαθηταῖς⸃ εἶπεν· Λάβετε φάγετε, τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀labon poterion kai eycharistesas edoken aytois legon· Piete ex aytoy pantes,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, [JESUS]"Drink from it, all of you.[/JESUS]

καὶ ⸀λαβὼν ποτήριον καὶ εὐχαριστήσας ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων· Πίετε ἐξ αὐτοῦ πάντες,

Phonetic (Greek): toyto gar estin to ahima ⸀mou ⸀tes diathekes to peri pollon ekchynnomenon eis aphesin hamartion·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."[/JESUS]

τοῦτο γάρ ἐστιν τὸ αἷμά ⸀μου ⸀τῆς διαθήκης τὸ περὶ πολλῶν ἐκχυννόμενον εἰς ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν·

Phonetic (Greek): lego de ⸀hymin, oy me pio apʼ arti ek toytou toy genematos tes ampelou heos tes hemeras ekeines hotan ayto pino methʼ hymon kainon en tῇ basileiᾳ toy patros mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But I say to you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."[/JESUS]

λέγω δὲ ⸀ὑμῖν, οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπʼ ἄρτι ἐκ τούτου τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ἐκείνης ὅταν αὐτὸ πίνω μεθʼ ὑμῶν καινὸν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ πατρός μου.

Phonetic (Greek): kai hymnesantes exelthon eis to Ὄros ton Ἐlaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

καὶ ὑμνήσαντες ἐξῆλθον εἰς τὸ Ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote legei aytois ho Ἰesoys· Pantes hymeis skandalisthesesthe en emoi en tῇ nykti taytῃ, gegraptai gar· Pataxo ton poimena, kai ⸀diaskorpisthesontai ta probata tes poimnes·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: 'I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'"[/JESUS]

Τότε λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Πάντες ὑμεῖς σκανδαλισθήσεσθε ἐν ἐμοὶ ἐν τῇ νυκτὶ ταύτῃ, γέγραπται γάρ· Πατάξω τὸν ποιμένα, καὶ ⸀διασκορπισθήσονται τὰ πρόβατα τῆς ποίμνης·

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee."[/JESUS]

μετὰ δὲ τὸ ἐγερθῆναί με προάξω ὑμᾶς εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν.

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de ho Petros eipen aytῷ· Ei pantes skandalisthesontai en soi, ⸀ego oydepote skandalisthesomai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Peter answered and said to him, "Though all men shall be offended because of you, yet will I never be offended."

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Πέτρος εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Εἰ πάντες σκανδαλισθήσονται ἐν σοί, ⸀ἐγὼ οὐδέποτε σκανδαλισθήσομαι.

Phonetic (Greek): ephe aytῷ ho Ἰesoys· Ἀmen lego soi hoti en taytῃ tῇ nykti prin alektora phonesai tris aparnesῃ me.
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times."[/JESUS]

ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἀμὴν λέγω σοι ὅτι ἐν ταύτῃ τῇ νυκτὶ πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι τρὶς ἀπαρνήσῃ με.

Phonetic (Greek): legei aytῷ ho Petros· Kan deῃ me syn soi apothanein, oy me se ⸀aparnesomai. ⸀homoios kai pantes ohi mathetai eipan.
Edified Edition (EDE)Peter said to him, "Though I should die with you, yet will I not deny you. Likewise also said all the disciples."

λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Πέτρος· Κἂν δέῃ με σὺν σοὶ ἀποθανεῖν, οὐ μή σε ⸀ἀπαρνήσομαι. ⸀ὁμοίως καὶ πάντες οἱ μαθηταὶ εἶπαν.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote erchetai metʼ ayton ho Ἰesoys eis chorion legomenon Gethsemani, kai legei tois mathetais· Kathisate aytoy heos ohy apelthon ⸂ekei proseyxomai⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then comes Jesus with them to a place called Gethsemane, and says to the disciples, [JESUS]"Sit you here, while I go and pray yonder."[/JESUS]

Τότε ἔρχεται μετʼ αὐτῶν ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς χωρίον λεγόμενον Γεθσημανί, καὶ λέγει τοῖς μαθηταῖς· Καθίσατε αὐτοῦ ἕως οὗ ἀπελθὼν ⸂ἐκεῖ προσεύξωμαι⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai paralabon ton Petron kai toys dyo yhioys Zebedaiou erxato lypeisthai kai ademonein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

καὶ παραλαβὼν τὸν Πέτρον καὶ τοὺς δύο υἱοὺς Ζεβεδαίου ἤρξατο λυπεῖσθαι καὶ ἀδημονεῖν.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then says he to them, [JESUS]"My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even to death: tarry you here, and watch with me."[/JESUS]

τότε λέγει ⸀αὐτοῖς· Περίλυπός ἐστιν ἡ ψυχή μου ἕως θανάτου· μείνατε ὧδε καὶ γρηγορεῖτε μετʼ ἐμοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀proelthon mikron epesen epi prosopon aytoy proseuchomenos kai legon· Pater mou, ei dynaton estin, parelthato apʼ emoy to poterion toyto· plen oych hos ego thelo allʼ hos sy.
Edified Edition (EDE)He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, [JESUS]"O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."[/JESUS]

καὶ ⸀προελθὼν μικρὸν ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ προσευχόμενος καὶ λέγων· Πάτερ μου, εἰ δυνατόν ἐστιν, παρελθάτω ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ τὸ ποτήριον τοῦτο· πλὴν οὐχ ὡς ἐγὼ θέλω ἀλλʼ ὡς σύ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai erchetai pros toys mathetas kai ehyriskei aytoys katheydontas, kai legei tῷ Petrῳ· Ohytos oyk ischysate mian horan gregoresai metʼ emoy;
Edified Edition (EDE)And he comes to the disciples, and finds them asleep, and says to Peter, [JESUS]"What, could you not watch with me one hour?"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἔρχεται πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς καὶ εὑρίσκει αὐτοὺς καθεύδοντας, καὶ λέγει τῷ Πέτρῳ· Οὕτως οὐκ ἰσχύσατε μίαν ὥραν γρηγορῆσαι μετʼ ἐμοῦ;

Phonetic (Greek): gregoreite kai proseychesthe, hina me eiselthete eis peirasmon· to men pneyma prothymon he de sarx asthenes.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."[/JESUS]

γρηγορεῖτε καὶ προσεύχεσθε, ἵνα μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν· τὸ μὲν πνεῦμα πρόθυμον ἡ δὲ σὰρξ ἀσθενής.

Phonetic (Greek): palin ek deuterou apelthon proseyxato legon· Pater mou, ei oy dynatai ⸀toyto ⸀parelthein ean me ayto pio, genetheto to thelema sou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, [JESUS]"O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done."[/JESUS]

πάλιν ἐκ δευτέρου ἀπελθὼν προσηύξατο λέγων· Πάτερ μου, εἰ οὐ δύναται ⸀τοῦτο ⸀παρελθεῖν ἐὰν μὴ αὐτὸ πίω, γενηθήτω τὸ θέλημά σου.

Phonetic (Greek): kai elthon ⸂palin ehyren aytoys⸃ katheydontas, esan gar ayton ohi ophthalmoi bebaremenoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

καὶ ἐλθὼν ⸂πάλιν εὗρεν αὐτοὺς⸃ καθεύδοντας, ἦσαν γὰρ αὐτῶν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ βεβαρημένοι.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apheis aytoys ⸂palin apelthon⸃ proseyxato ek tritou ton ayton logon eipon ⸀palin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

καὶ ἀφεὶς αὐτοὺς ⸂πάλιν ἀπελθὼν⸃ προσηύξατο ἐκ τρίτου τὸν αὐτὸν λόγον εἰπὼν ⸀πάλιν.
