Edified Edition (EDE)When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put Him to death.

Πρωΐας δὲ γενομένης συμβούλιον ἔλαβον πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὥστε θανατῶσαι αὐτόν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai desantes ayton apegagon kai ⸀paredokan Pilatῳ tῷ hegemoni.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

καὶ δήσαντες αὐτὸν ἀπήγαγον καὶ ⸀παρέδωκαν Πιλάτῳ τῷ ἡγεμόνι.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Judas, who had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

Τότε ἰδὼν Ἰούδας ὁ ⸀παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν ὅτι κατεκρίθη μεταμεληθεὶς ⸀ἔστρεψεν τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν ⸀καὶ πρεσβυτέροις

Phonetic (Greek): legon· Ἥmarton paradoys ahima ⸀athῷon. ohi de eipan· Ti pros hemas; sy ⸀opsῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, "I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see you to that."

λέγων· Ἥμαρτον παραδοὺς αἷμα ⸀ἀθῷον. οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· Τί πρὸς ἡμᾶς; σὺ ⸀ὄψῃ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ῥipsas ta argyria ⸂eis ton naon⸃ anechoresen, kai apelthon apenxato.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

καὶ ῥίψας τὰ ἀργύρια ⸂εἰς τὸν ναὸν⸃ ἀνεχώρησεν, καὶ ἀπελθὼν ἀπήγξατο.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de archiereis labontes ta argyria eipan· Oyk exestin balein ayta eis ton korbanan, epei time ahimatos estin·
Edified Edition (EDE)And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, "It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood."

οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τὰ ἀργύρια εἶπαν· Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν κορβανᾶν, ἐπεὶ τιμὴ αἵματός ἐστιν·

Phonetic (Greek): symboylion de labontes egorasan ex ayton ton Ἀgron toy Kerameos eis taphen tois xenois.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.

συμβούλιον δὲ λαβόντες ἠγόρασαν ἐξ αὐτῶν τὸν Ἀγρὸν τοῦ Κεραμέως εἰς ταφὴν τοῖς ξένοις.

Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, to this day.

διὸ ἐκλήθη ὁ ἀγρὸς ἐκεῖνος Ἀγρὸς Αἵματος ἕως τῆς σήμερον.

Phonetic (Greek): tote eplerothe to ῥethen dia Ἰeremiou toy prophetou legontos· Kai elabon ta triakonta argyria, ten timen toy tetimemenou hon etimesanto apo yhion Ἰsrael,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;"

τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· Καὶ ἔλαβον τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια, τὴν τιμὴν τοῦ τετιμημένου ὃν ἐτιμήσαντο ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai edokan ayta eis ton agron toy kerameos, katha synetaxen moi kyrios.
Edified Edition (EDE)And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.

καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως, καθὰ συνέταξέν μοι κύριος.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ de Ἰesoys ⸀estathe emprosthen toy hegemonos· kai eperotesen ayton ho hegemon legon· Sy ei ho basileys ton Ἰoudaion; ho de Ἰesoys ⸀ephe· Sy legeis.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"It is as you say."[/JESUS]

Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸀ἐστάθη ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ ἡγεμόνος· καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν ὁ ἡγεμὼν λέγων· Σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων; ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸀ἔφη· Σὺ λέγεις.

Phonetic (Greek): kai en tῷ kategoreisthai ayton hypo ton archiereon ⸀kai presbyteron oyden apekrinato.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

καὶ ἐν τῷ κατηγορεῖσθαι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀρχιερέων ⸀καὶ πρεσβυτέρων οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο.

Phonetic (Greek): tote legei aytῷ ho Pilatos· Oyk akoyeis posa sou katamartyroysin;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then said Pilate to him, "Hear you not how many things they witness against you?"

τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Πιλᾶτος· Οὐκ ἀκούεις πόσα σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;

Phonetic (Greek): kai oyk apekrithe aytῷ pros oyde hen ῥema, hoste thaumazein ton hegemona lian.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ πρὸς οὐδὲ ἓν ῥῆμα, ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν ἡγεμόνα λίαν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kata de heorten eiothei ho hegemon apolyein hena tῷ ochlῳ desmion hon ethelon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now at that feast the governor was wont to release to the people a prisoner, whom they would.

Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν εἰώθει ὁ ἡγεμὼν ἀπολύειν ἕνα τῷ ὄχλῳ δέσμιον ὃν ἤθελον.

Phonetic (Greek): eichon de tote desmion episemon legomenon ⸀Ἰesoyn Barabban.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

εἶχον δὲ τότε δέσμιον ἐπίσημον λεγόμενον ⸀Ἰησοῦν Βαραββᾶν.

Phonetic (Greek): synegmenon oyn ayton eipen aytois ho Pilatos· Tina thelete apolyso hymin, ⸂Ἰesoyn ton⸃ Barabban e Ἰesoyn ton legomenon christon;
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom will you that I release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?"

συνηγμένων οὖν αὐτῶν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· Τίνα θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν, ⸂Ἰησοῦν τὸν⸃ Βαραββᾶν ἢ Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον χριστόν;

Phonetic (Greek): edei gar hoti dia phthonon paredokan ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

ᾔδει γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παρέδωκαν αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kathemenou de aytoy epi toy bematos apesteilen pros ayton he gyne aytoy legousa· Meden soi kai tῷ dikaiῳ ekeinῳ, polla gar epathon semeron katʼ onar diʼ ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)When he was set down on the judgement seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have you nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."

Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ βήματος ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ λέγουσα· Μηδὲν σοὶ καὶ τῷ δικαίῳ ἐκείνῳ, πολλὰ γὰρ ἔπαθον σήμερον κατʼ ὄναρ διʼ αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ohi de archiereis kai ohi presbyteroi epeisan toys ochlous hina aitesontai ton Barabban ton de Ἰesoyn apolesosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἔπεισαν τοὺς ὄχλους ἵνα αἰτήσωνται τὸν Βαραββᾶν τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν ἀπολέσωσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de ho hegemon eipen aytois· Tina thelete apo ton dyo apolyso hymin; ohi de eipan· ⸀Ton Barabban.
Edified Edition (EDE)The governor answered and said to them, Whether of the twain will you that I release to you? They said, "Barabbas."

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἡγεμὼν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τίνα θέλετε ἀπὸ τῶν δύο ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· ⸀Τὸν Βαραββᾶν.

Phonetic (Greek): legei aytois ho Pilatos· Ti oyn poieso Ἰesoyn ton legomenon christon; ⸀legousin pantes· Staurotheto.
Edified Edition (EDE)Pilate says to them, "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say to him, Let him be crucified."

λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· Τί οὖν ποιήσω Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον χριστόν; ⸀λέγουσιν πάντες· Σταυρωθήτω.

Phonetic (Greek): ho ⸀de ephe· Ti gar kakon epoiesen; ohi de perissos ekrazon legontes· Staurotheto.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the governor said, "Why, what evil has he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified."

ὁ ⸀δὲ ἔφη· Τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν; οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἔκραζον λέγοντες· Σταυρωθήτω.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἰdon de ho Pilatos hoti oyden ophelei alla mallon thorybos ginetai labon hydor apenipsato tas cheiras ⸀apenanti toy ochlou legon· Ἀthῷos eimi apo toy ⸀ahimatos toytou· hymeis opsesthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see you to it."

Ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Πιλᾶτος ὅτι οὐδὲν ὠφελεῖ ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον θόρυβος γίνεται λαβὼν ὕδωρ ἀπενίψατο τὰς χεῖρας ⸀ἀπέναντι τοῦ ὄχλου λέγων· Ἀθῷός εἰμι ἀπὸ τοῦ ⸀αἵματος τούτου· ὑμεῖς ὄψεσθε.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apokritheis pas ho laos eipen· To ahima aytoy ephʼ hemas kai epi ta tekna hemon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then answered all the people, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children."

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πᾶς ὁ λαὸς εἶπεν· Τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ἡμῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): tote apelysen aytois ton Barabban, ton de Ἰesoyn phragellosas paredoken hina staurothῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then released he Barabbas to them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

τότε ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν, τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν φραγελλώσας παρέδωκεν ἵνα σταυρωθῇ.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote ohi stratiotai toy hegemonos paralabontes ton Ἰesoyn eis to praitorion synegagon epʼ ayton holen ten speiran.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered to him the whole band of soldiers.

Τότε οἱ στρατιῶται τοῦ ἡγεμόνος παραλαβόντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον συνήγαγον ἐπʼ αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν.

Edified Edition (EDE)And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν ⸂χλαμύδα κοκκίνην περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ⸃,

Phonetic (Greek): kai plexantes stephanon ex akanthon epethekan epi ⸂tes kephales⸃ aytoy kai kalamon ⸂en tῇ dexiᾷ⸃ aytoy, kai gonypetesantes emprosthen aytoy ⸀enepaixan aytῷ legontes· Chaire, ⸀basiley ton Ἰoudaion,
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

καὶ πλέξαντες στέφανον ἐξ ἀκανθῶν ἐπέθηκαν ἐπὶ ⸂τῆς κεφαλῆς⸃ αὐτοῦ καὶ κάλαμον ⸂ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ⸃ αὐτοῦ, καὶ γονυπετήσαντες ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ ⸀ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες· Χαῖρε, ⸀βασιλεῦ τῶν Ἰουδαίων,

Phonetic (Greek): kai emptysantes eis ayton elabon ton kalamon kai etypton eis ten kephalen aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

καὶ ἐμπτύσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ἔλαβον τὸν κάλαμον καὶ ἔτυπτον εἰς τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai hote enepaixan aytῷ, exedysan ayton ten chlamyda kai enedysan ayton ta himatia aytoy kai apegagon ayton eis to staurosai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ, ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν χλαμύδα καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ σταυρῶσαι.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐxerchomenoi de ehyron anthropon Kyrenaion onomati Simona· toyton engareusan hina arῃ ton stauron aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

Ἐξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα· τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai elthontes eis topon legomenon Golgotha, ho estin ⸂Kraniou Topos legomenos⸃,
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they were come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

Καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον Γολγοθᾶ, ὅ ἐστιν ⸂Κρανίου Τόπος λεγόμενος⸃,

Phonetic (Greek): edokan aytῷ piein ⸀oinon meta choles memigmenon· kai geusamenos oyk ⸀ethelesen piein.
Edified Edition (EDE)They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ πιεῖν ⸀οἶνον μετὰ χολῆς μεμιγμένον· καὶ γευσάμενος οὐκ ⸀ἠθέλησεν πιεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): staurosantes de ayton diemerisanto ta himatia aytoy ballontes kleron,
Edified Edition (EDE)And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

σταυρώσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον,

Phonetic (Greek): kai kathemenoi eteroun ayton ekei.
Edified Edition (EDE)And sitting down they watched him there;

καὶ καθήμενοι ἐτήρουν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai epethekan epano tes kephales aytoy ten aitian aytoy gegrammenen· Ohytos estin Ἰesoys ho basileys ton Ἰoudaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)And set up over His head His accusation written: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ τὴν αἰτίαν αὐτοῦ γεγραμμένην· Οὗτός ἐστιν Ἰησοῦς ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote stauroyntai syn aytῷ dyo lῃstai, ehis ek dexion kai ehis ex eyonymon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

Τότε σταυροῦνται σὺν αὐτῷ δύο λῃσταί, εἷς ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de paraporeuomenoi eblasphemoun ayton kinoyntes tas kephalas ayton
Edified Edition (EDE)And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

οἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν

Phonetic (Greek): kai legontes· Ὁ katalyon ton naon kai en trisin hemerais oikodomon, soson seauton· ei yhios ei toy theoy, ⸀katabethi apo toy stauroy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And saying, "you that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save yourself. If you be the Son of God, come down from the cross."

καὶ λέγοντες· Ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν, σῶσον σεαυτόν· εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, ⸀κατάβηθι ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): homoios ⸀kai ohi archiereis empaizontes meta ton grammateon kai ⸀presbyteron elegon·
Edified Edition (EDE)Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

ὁμοίως ⸀καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ ⸀πρεσβυτέρων ἔλεγον·

Phonetic (Greek): Ἄllous esosen, heauton oy dynatai sosai· ⸀basileys Ἰsrael estin, katabato nyn apo toy stauroy kai pisteysomen epʼ ⸀ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

Ἄλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι· ⸀βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν, καταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ καὶ πιστεύσομεν ἐπʼ ⸀αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): pepoithen epi ton theon, ῥysastho ⸀nyn ei thelei ayton· eipen gar hoti Theoy eimi yhios.
Edified Edition (EDE)He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, "I am the Son of God."

πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν, ῥυσάσθω ⸀νῦν εἰ θέλει αὐτόν· εἶπεν γὰρ ὅτι Θεοῦ εἰμι υἱός.

Phonetic (Greek): to dʼ ayto kai ohi lῃstai ohi systaurothentes ⸀syn aytῷ oneidizon ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)The thieves also, who were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

τὸ δʼ αὐτὸ καὶ οἱ λῃσταὶ οἱ συσταυρωθέντες ⸀σὺν αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀpo de hektes horas skotos egeneto epi pasan ten gen heos horas enates.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land to the ninth hour.

Ἀπὸ δὲ ἕκτης ὥρας σκότος ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης.

Phonetic (Greek): peri de ten enaten horan ⸀aneboesen ho Ἰesoys phonῇ megalῃ legon· ⸂Ἠli eli⸃ lema sabachthani; toytʼ estin· Thee mou thee mou, hinati me enkatelipes;
Edified Edition (EDE)And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, [JESUS]"Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"[/JESUS] that is, [JESUS]"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"[/JESUS]

περὶ δὲ τὴν ἐνάτην ὥραν ⸀ἀνεβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ λέγων· ⸂Ἠλὶ ἠλὶ⸃ λεμὰ σαβαχθάνι; τοῦτʼ ἔστιν· Θεέ μου θεέ μου, ἱνατί με ἐγκατέλιπες;
