Phonetic (Greek): Ἐn de tais hemerais ekeinais paraginetai Ἰoannes ho baptistes kerysson en tῇ eremῳ tes Ἰoudaias
Edified Edition (EDE)In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

Ἐν δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις παραγίνεται Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτιστὴς κηρύσσων ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῆς Ἰουδαίας

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kai legon· Metanoeite, engiken gar he basileia ton oyranon.
Edified Edition (EDE)saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!"

⸀καὶ λέγων· Μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικεν γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytos gar estin ho ῥetheis ⸀dia Ἠsaiou toy prophetou legontos· Phone boontos en tῇ eremῳ· Ἑtoimasate ten hodon kyriou, eytheias poieite tas tribous aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight.'"

οὗτος γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ῥηθεὶς ⸀διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· Φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ· Ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν κυρίου, εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): aytos de ho Ἰoannes eichen to endyma aytoy apo trichon kamelou kai zonen dermatinen peri ten osphyn aytoy, he de trophe ⸂en aytoy⸃ akrides kai meli agrion.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now John himself had a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ Ἰωάννης εἶχεν τὸ ἔνδυμα αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τριχῶν καμήλου καὶ ζώνην δερματίνην περὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ, ἡ δὲ τροφὴ ⸂ἦν αὐτοῦ⸃ ἀκρίδες καὶ μέλι ἄγριον.

Phonetic (Greek): tote exeporeyeto pros ayton Ἱerosolyma kai pasa he Ἰoudaia kai pasa he perichoros toy Ἰordanou,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him

τότε ἐξεπορεύετο πρὸς αὐτὸν Ἱεροσόλυμα καὶ πᾶσα ἡ Ἰουδαία καὶ πᾶσα ἡ περίχωρος τοῦ Ἰορδάνου,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ebaptizonto en tῷ Ἰordanῃ ⸀potamῷ hypʼ aytoy exomologoymenoi tas hamartias ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

καὶ ἐβαπτίζοντο ἐν τῷ Ἰορδάνῃ ⸀ποταμῷ ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ ἐξομολογούμενοι τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἰdon de polloys ton Pharisaion kai Saddoukaion erchomenous epi to baptisma ⸀aytoy eipen aytois· Gennemata echidnon, tis hypedeixen hymin phygein apo tes melloyses orges;
Edified Edition (EDE)But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them: "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?"

Ἰδὼν δὲ πολλοὺς τῶν Φαρισαίων καὶ Σαδδουκαίων ἐρχομένους ἐπὶ τὸ βάπτισμα ⸀αὐτοῦ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν, τίς ὑπέδειξεν ὑμῖν φυγεῖν ἀπὸ τῆς μελλούσης ὀργῆς;

Phonetic (Greek): poiesate oyn karpon axion tes metanoias
Edified Edition (EDE)"Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance,"

ποιήσατε οὖν καρπὸν ἄξιον τῆς μετανοίας

Phonetic (Greek): kai me doxete legein en heautois· Patera echomen ton Ἀbraam, lego gar hymin hoti dynatai ho theos ek ton lithon toyton egeirai tekna tῷ Ἀbraam.
Edified Edition (EDE)"and do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones."

καὶ μὴ δόξητε λέγειν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς· Πατέρα ἔχομεν τὸν Ἀβραάμ, λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι δύναται ὁ θεὸς ἐκ τῶν λίθων τούτων ἐγεῖραι τέκνα τῷ Ἀβραάμ.

Phonetic (Greek): ede ⸀de he axine pros ten ῥizan ton dendron keitai· pan oyn dendron me poioyn karpon kalon ekkoptetai kai eis pyr balletai.
Edified Edition (EDE)"And even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."

ἤδη ⸀δὲ ἡ ἀξίνη πρὸς τὴν ῥίζαν τῶν δένδρων κεῖται· πᾶν οὖν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καρπὸν καλὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ εἰς πῦρ βάλλεται.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐgo men ⸂hymas baptizo⸃ en hydati eis metanoian· ho de opiso mou erchomenos ischyroteros moy estin, ohy oyk eimi hikanos ta hypodemata bastasai· aytos hymas baptisei en pneymati hagiῳ ⸂kai pyri⸃·
Edified Edition (EDE)"I indeed baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

Ἐγὼ μὲν ⸂ὑμᾶς βαπτίζω⸃ ἐν ὕδατι εἰς μετάνοιαν· ὁ δὲ ὀπίσω μου ἐρχόμενος ἰσχυρότερός μού ἐστιν, οὗ οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς τὰ ὑποδήματα βαστάσαι· αὐτὸς ὑμᾶς βαπτίσει ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ ⸂καὶ πυρί⸃·

Phonetic (Greek): ohy to ptyon en tῇ cheiri aytoy, kai diakathariei ten halona aytoy kai synaxei ton siton aytoy eis ten ⸀apotheken, to de achyron katakaysei pyri asbestῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)"His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

οὗ τὸ πτύον ἐν τῇ χειρὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ διακαθαριεῖ τὴν ἅλωνα αὐτοῦ καὶ συνάξει τὸν σῖτον αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν ⸀ἀποθήκην, τὸ δὲ ἄχυρον κατακαύσει πυρὶ ἀσβέστῳ.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote paraginetai ho Ἰesoys apo tes Galilaias epi ton Ἰordanen pros ton Ἰoannen toy baptisthenai hypʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.

Τότε παραγίνεται ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰορδάνην πρὸς τὸν Ἰωάννην τοῦ βαπτισθῆναι ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de ⸀Ἰoannes diekolyen ayton legon· Ἐgo chreian echo hypo soy baptisthenai, kai sy erchῃ pros me;
Edified Edition (EDE)But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?"

ὁ δὲ ⸀Ἰωάννης διεκώλυεν αὐτὸν λέγων· Ἐγὼ χρείαν ἔχω ὑπὸ σοῦ βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ σὺ ἔρχῃ πρός με;

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de ho Ἰesoys eipen ⸂pros ayton⸃· Ἄphes arti, ohytos gar prepon estin hemin plerosai pasan dikaiosynen. tote aphiesin ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus answered and said to him, [JESUS]"Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."[/JESUS] Then he allowed Him.

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν ⸂πρὸς αὐτόν⸃· Ἄφες ἄρτι, οὕτως γὰρ πρέπον ἐστὶν ἡμῖν πληρῶσαι πᾶσαν δικαιοσύνην. τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂baptistheis de⸃ ho Ἰesoys ⸂eythys anebe⸃ apo toy hydatos· kai idoy ⸀eneῴchthesan ohi oyranoi, kai eiden ⸀pneyma theoy katabainon hosei ⸀peristeran erchomenon epʼ ayton·
Edified Edition (EDE)When Jesus had been baptized, He came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Him.

⸂βαπτισθεὶς δὲ⸃ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸂εὐθὺς ἀνέβη⸃ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕδατος· καὶ ἰδοὺ ⸀ἠνεῴχθησαν οἱ οὐρανοί, καὶ εἶδεν ⸀πνεῦμα θεοῦ καταβαῖνον ὡσεὶ ⸀περιστερὰν ἐρχόμενον ἐπʼ αὐτόν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai idoy phone ek ton oyranon legousa· Ohytos estin ho yhios mou ho agapetos, en ho eydokesa.
Edified Edition (EDE)And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

καὶ ἰδοὺ φωνὴ ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν λέγουσα· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ἐν ᾧ εὐδόκησα.
