Chapter 4
1
Phonetic (Greek): Tote ho Ἰesoys anechthe eis ten eremon hypo toy pneymatos, peirasthenai hypo toy diabolou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Τότε ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀνήχθη εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ὑπὸ τοῦ πνεύματος, πειρασθῆναι ὑπὸ τοῦ διαβόλου.

Phonetic (Greek): kai nesteysas hemeras tesserakonta kai nyktas tesserakonta hysteron epeinasen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.

καὶ νηστεύσας ἡμέρας τεσσεράκοντα καὶ νύκτας τεσσεράκοντα ὕστερον ἐπείνασεν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai proselthon ⸂ho peirazon eipen aytῷ⸃· Ei yhios ei toy theoy, eipe hina ohi lithoi ohytoi artoi genontai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread."

καὶ προσελθὼν ⸂ὁ πειράζων εἶπεν αὐτῷ⸃· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, εἰπὲ ἵνα οἱ λίθοι οὗτοι ἄρτοι γένωνται.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de apokritheis eipen· Gegraptai· Oyk epʼ artῳ monῳ zesetai ⸀ho anthropos, allʼ ⸀epi panti ῥemati ekporeuomenῳ dia stomatos theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)But He answered and said, [JESUS]"It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'"[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Γέγραπται· Οὐκ ἐπʼ ἄρτῳ μόνῳ ζήσεται ⸀ὁ ἄνθρωπος, ἀλλʼ ⸀ἐπὶ παντὶ ῥήματι ἐκπορευομένῳ διὰ στόματος θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote paralambanei ayton ho diabolos eis ten hagian polin, kai ⸀estesen ayton epi to pterygion toy hieroy,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,

Τότε παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν, καὶ ⸀ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ πτερύγιον τοῦ ἱεροῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai legei aytῷ· Ei yhios ei toy theoy, bale seauton kato· gegraptai gar hoti Tois angelois aytoy enteleitai peri soy kai epi cheiron aroysin se, mepote proskopsῃs pros lithon ton poda sou.
Edified Edition (EDE)and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you,' and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"

καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, βάλε σεαυτὸν κάτω· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι Τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ ἐντελεῖται περὶ σοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ χειρῶν ἀροῦσίν σε, μήποτε προσκόψῃς πρὸς λίθον τὸν πόδα σου.

Phonetic (Greek): ephe aytῷ ho Ἰesoys· Palin gegraptai· Oyk ekpeiraseis kyrion ton theon sou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"It is written again, 'You shall not tempt the LORD your God.'"[/JESUS]

ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Πάλιν γέγραπται· Οὐκ ἐκπειράσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου.

Phonetic (Greek): Palin paralambanei ayton ho diabolos eis oros hypselon lian, kai deiknysin aytῷ pasas tas basileias toy kosmou kai ten doxan ayton
Edified Edition (EDE)Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

Πάλιν παραλαμβάνει αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν λίαν, καὶ δείκνυσιν αὐτῷ πάσας τὰς βασιλείας τοῦ κόσμου καὶ τὴν δόξαν αὐτῶν

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀eipen aytῷ· Tayta ⸂soi panta⸃ doso, ean peson proskynesῃs moi.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me."

καὶ ⸀εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ταῦτά ⸂σοι πάντα⸃ δώσω, ἐὰν πεσὼν προσκυνήσῃς μοι.

Phonetic (Greek): tote legei aytῷ ho Ἰesoys· ⸀Ὕpage, Satana· gegraptai gar· Kyrion ton theon sou proskyneseis kai aytῷ monῳ latreyseis.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"Go away, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only shall you serve.'"[/JESUS]

τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· ⸀Ὕπαγε, Σατανᾶ· γέγραπται γάρ· Κύριον τὸν θεόν σου προσκυνήσεις καὶ αὐτῷ μόνῳ λατρεύσεις.

Phonetic (Greek): tote aphiesin ayton ho diabolos, kai idoy angeloi proselthon kai diekonoun aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτὸν ὁ διάβολος, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄγγελοι προσῆλθον καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀkoysas ⸀de hoti Ἰoannes paredothe anechoresen eis ten Galilaian.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed for Galilee.

Ἀκούσας ⸀δὲ ὅτι Ἰωάννης παρεδόθη ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai katalipon ten Nazara elthon katῴkesen eis Kapharnaoym ten parathalassian en horiois Zaboulon kai Nephthalim·
Edified Edition (EDE)And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,

καὶ καταλιπὼν τὴν Ναζαρὰ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ τὴν παραθαλασσίαν ἐν ὁρίοις Ζαβουλὼν καὶ Νεφθαλίμ·

Phonetic (Greek): hina plerothῇ to ῥethen dia Ἠsaiou toy prophetou legontos·
Edified Edition (EDE)that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·

Phonetic (Greek): Ge Zaboulon kai ge Nephthalim, hodon thalasses, peran toy Ἰordanou, Galilaia ton ethnon,
Edified Edition (EDE)"The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:"

Γῆ Ζαβουλὼν καὶ γῆ Νεφθαλίμ, ὁδὸν θαλάσσης, πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου, Γαλιλαία τῶν ἐθνῶν,

Phonetic (Greek): ho laos ho kathemenos en ⸀skotiᾳ ⸂phos eiden⸃ mega, kai tois kathemenois en chorᾳ kai skiᾷ thanatou phos aneteilen aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)"The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned."

ὁ λαὸς ὁ καθήμενος ἐν ⸀σκοτίᾳ ⸂φῶς εἶδεν⸃ μέγα, καὶ τοῖς καθημένοις ἐν χώρᾳ καὶ σκιᾷ θανάτου φῶς ἀνέτειλεν αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀpo tote erxato ho Ἰesoys keryssein kai legein· Metanoeite, engiken gar he basileia ton oyranon.
Edified Edition (EDE)From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, [JESUS]"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."[/JESUS]

Ἀπὸ τότε ἤρξατο ὁ Ἰησοῦς κηρύσσειν καὶ λέγειν· Μετανοεῖτε, ἤγγικεν γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): Peripaton de para ten thalassan tes Galilaias eiden dyo adelphoys, Simona ton legomenon Petron kai Ἀndrean ton adelphon aytoy, ballontas amphiblestron eis ten thalassan, esan gar halieis·
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

Περιπατῶν δὲ παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας εἶδεν δύο ἀδελφούς, Σίμωνα τὸν λεγόμενον Πέτρον καὶ Ἀνδρέαν τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, βάλλοντας ἀμφίβληστρον εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν, ἦσαν γὰρ ἁλιεῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): kai legei aytois· Deyte opiso mou, kai poieso hymas halieis anthropon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."[/JESUS]

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Δεῦτε ὀπίσω μου, καὶ ποιήσω ὑμᾶς ἁλιεῖς ἀνθρώπων.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de eytheos aphentes ta diktya ekoloythesan aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὰ δίκτυα ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai probas ekeithen eiden allous dyo adelphoys, Ἰakobon ton toy Zebedaiou kai Ἰoannen ton adelphon aytoy, en tῷ ploiῳ meta Zebedaiou toy patros ayton katartizontas ta diktya ayton, kai ekalesen aytoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them,

Καὶ προβὰς ἐκεῖθεν εἶδεν ἄλλους δύο ἀδελφούς, Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ μετὰ Ζεβεδαίου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτῶν καταρτίζοντας τὰ δίκτυα αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν αὐτούς.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de eytheos aphentes to ploion kai ton patera ayton ekoloythesan aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

οἱ δὲ εὐθέως ἀφέντες τὸ πλοῖον καὶ τὸν πατέρα αὐτῶν ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai periegen ⸂en holῃ tῇ Galilaiᾳ⸃, didaskon en tais synagogais ayton kai kerysson to eyangelion tes basileias kai therapeyon pasan noson kai pasan malakian en tῷ laῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

Καὶ περιῆγεν ⸂ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ⸃, διδάσκων ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ θεραπεύων πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν ἐν τῷ λαῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apelthen he akoe aytoy eis holen ten Syrian· kai prosenenkan aytῷ pantas toys kakos echontas poikilais nosois kai basanois ⸀synechomenous, daimonizomenous kai seleniazomenous kai paralytikoys, kai etherapeusen aytoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἡ ἀκοὴ αὐτοῦ εἰς ὅλην τὴν Συρίαν· καὶ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ποικίλαις νόσοις καὶ βασάνοις ⸀συνεχομένους, δαιμονιζομένους καὶ σεληνιαζομένους καὶ παραλυτικούς, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτούς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ekoloythesan aytῷ ochloi polloi apo tes Galilaias kai Dekapoleos kai Ἱerosolymon kai Ἰoudaias kai peran toy Ἰordanou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Great multitudes followed Him from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

καὶ ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ Δεκαπόλεως καὶ Ἱεροσολύμων καὶ Ἰουδαίας καὶ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου.
