Chapter 3

Phonetic (Greek): Kai tῷ angelῳ tes en Sardesin ekklesias grapson· Tade legei ho echon ta hepta pneymata toy theoy kai toys hepta asteras· Oida sou ta erga, hoti onoma echeis hoti zῇs, kai nekros ei.
Edified Edition (EDE)And to the angel of the church in Sardis write; "These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know your works, that you have a name that you live, and are dead.

Καὶ τῷ ἀγγέλῳ τῆς ἐν Σάρδεσιν ἐκκλησίας γράψον· Τάδε λέγει ὁ ἔχων τὰ ἑπτὰ πνεύματα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἑπτὰ ἀστέρας· Οἶδά σου τὰ ἔργα, ὅτι ὄνομα ἔχεις ὅτι ζῇς, καὶ νεκρὸς εἶ.

Phonetic (Greek): ginou gregoron, kai sterison ta loipa ha ⸂emellon apothanein⸃, oy gar ehyreka sou ⸀ta erga pepleromena enopion toy theoy mou·
Edified Edition (EDE)"Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found your works perfect before God.

γίνου γρηγορῶν, καὶ στήρισον τὰ λοιπὰ ἃ ⸂ἔμελλον ἀποθανεῖν⸃, οὐ γὰρ εὕρηκά σου ⸀τὰ ἔργα πεπληρωμένα ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ μου·

Phonetic (Greek): mnemoneue oyn pos eilephas kai ekousas kai terei, kai metanoeson· ean oyn me gregoresῃs, ⸀hexo hos kleptes, kai oy me ⸀gnῷs poian horan hexo epi se·
Edified Edition (EDE)"Remember therefore how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore you shall not watch, I will come on you as a thief, and you shall not know what hour I will come upon you.

μνημόνευε οὖν πῶς εἴληφας καὶ ἤκουσας καὶ τήρει, καὶ μετανόησον· ἐὰν οὖν μὴ γρηγορήσῃς, ⸀ἥξω ὡς κλέπτης, καὶ οὐ μὴ ⸀γνῷς ποίαν ὥραν ἥξω ἐπὶ σέ·

Phonetic (Greek): alla ⸂echeis oliga⸃ onomata en Sardesin ha oyk emolynan ta himatia ayton, kai peripatesousin metʼ emoy en leukois, hoti axioi eisin.
Edified Edition (EDE)"You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white: for they are worthy.

ἀλλὰ ⸂ἔχεις ὀλίγα⸃ ὀνόματα ἐν Σάρδεσιν ἃ οὐκ ἐμόλυναν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν, καὶ περιπατήσουσιν μετʼ ἐμοῦ ἐν λευκοῖς, ὅτι ἄξιοί εἰσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): ho nikon ⸀ohytos peribaleitai en himatiois leukois, kai oy me exaleipso to onoma aytoy ek tes biblou tes zoes, kai homologeso to onoma aytoy enopion toy patros mou kai enopion ton angelon aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)"He who overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.

ὁ νικῶν ⸀οὕτως περιβαλεῖται ἐν ἱματίοις λευκοῖς, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐξαλείψω τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς βίβλου τῆς ζωῆς, καὶ ὁμολογήσω τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐνώπιον τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀγγέλων αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho echon oys akousato ti to pneyma legei tais ekklesiais.
Edified Edition (EDE)"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

ὁ ἔχων οὖς ἀκουσάτω τί τὸ πνεῦμα λέγει ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai tῷ angelῳ tes en Philadelpheiᾳ ekklesias grapson· Tade legei ho hagios, ho alethinos, ho echon ten klein ⸀Dauid, ho anoigon kai oydeis kleisei, ⸂kai kleion⸃ kai oydeis ⸀anoigei·
Edified Edition (EDE)And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; "These things says He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the key of David, He who opens, and no one shuts; and shuts, and no one opens;

Καὶ τῷ ἀγγέλῳ τῆς ἐν Φιλαδελφείᾳ ἐκκλησίας γράψον· Τάδε λέγει ὁ ἅγιος, ὁ ἀληθινός, ὁ ἔχων τὴν κλεῖν ⸀Δαυίδ, ὁ ἀνοίγων καὶ οὐδεὶς κλείσει, ⸂καὶ κλείων⸃ καὶ οὐδεὶς ⸀ἀνοίγει·

Phonetic (Greek): Oida sou ta erga— idoy dedoka enopion sou thyran eneῳgmenen, hen oydeis dynatai kleisai ayten— hoti mikran echeis dynamin, kai eteresas mou ton logon, kai oyk erneso to onoma mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)"I know your works: behold, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it: for you have a little strength, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

Οἶδά σου τὰ ἔργα— ἰδοὺ δέδωκα ἐνώπιόν σου θύραν ἠνεῳγμένην, ἣν οὐδεὶς δύναται κλεῖσαι αὐτήν— ὅτι μικρὰν ἔχεις δύναμιν, καὶ ἐτήρησάς μου τὸν λόγον, καὶ οὐκ ἠρνήσω τὸ ὄνομά μου.

Phonetic (Greek): idoy ⸀dido ek tes synagoges toy Satana, ton legonton heautoys Ἰoudaious einai, kai oyk eisin alla pseydontai— idoy poieso aytoys hina ⸂hexousin kai proskynesousin⸃ enopion ton podon sou, kai gnosin hoti ⸀ego egapesa se.
Edified Edition (EDE)"Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

ἰδοὺ ⸀διδῶ ἐκ τῆς συναγωγῆς τοῦ Σατανᾶ, τῶν λεγόντων ἑαυτοὺς Ἰουδαίους εἶναι, καὶ οὐκ εἰσὶν ἀλλὰ ψεύδονται— ἰδοὺ ποιήσω αὐτοὺς ἵνα ⸂ἥξουσιν καὶ προσκυνήσουσιν⸃ ἐνώπιον τῶν ποδῶν σου, καὶ γνῶσιν ὅτι ⸀ἐγὼ ἠγάπησά σε.

Phonetic (Greek): hoti eteresas ton logon tes hypomones mou, kago se tereso ek tes horas toy peirasmoy tes melloyses erchesthai epi tes oikoumenes holes, peirasai toys katoikoyntas epi tes ges.
Edified Edition (EDE)"Because you have kept the word of My patience, I also will keep you from the hour of trial, which shall come upon all the world, to test those who dwell upon the earth.

ὅτι ἐτήρησας τὸν λόγον τῆς ὑπομονῆς μου, κἀγώ σε τηρήσω ἐκ τῆς ὥρας τοῦ πειρασμοῦ τῆς μελλούσης ἔρχεσθαι ἐπὶ τῆς οἰκουμένης ὅλης, πειράσαι τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): erchomai tachy· kratei ho echeis, hina medeis labῃ ton stephanon sou.
Edified Edition (EDE)"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which you have, that no one take your crown.

ἔρχομαι ταχύ· κράτει ὃ ἔχεις, ἵνα μηδεὶς λάβῃ τὸν στέφανόν σου.

Phonetic (Greek): ho nikon poieso ayton stylon en tῷ naῷ toy theoy mou, kai exo oy me exelthῃ eti, kai grapso epʼ ayton to onoma toy theoy mou kai to onoma tes poleos toy theoy mou, tes kaines Ἰerousalem, he ⸀katabainousa ek toy oyranoy apo toy theoy mou, kai to onoma mou to kainon.
Edified Edition (EDE)"Him who overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more: and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, which is new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God: and I will write upon him My new name.

ὁ νικῶν ποιήσω αὐτὸν στῦλον ἐν τῷ ναῷ τοῦ θεοῦ μου, καὶ ἔξω οὐ μὴ ἐξέλθῃ ἔτι, καὶ γράψω ἐπʼ αὐτὸν τὸ ὄνομα τοῦ θεοῦ μου καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῆς πόλεως τοῦ θεοῦ μου, τῆς καινῆς Ἰερουσαλήμ, ἡ ⸀καταβαίνουσα ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ μου, καὶ τὸ ὄνομά μου τὸ καινόν.

Edified Edition (EDE)"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

ὁ ἔχων οὖς ἀκουσάτω τί τὸ πνεῦμα λέγει ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai tῷ angelῳ tes en Laodikeiᾳ ekklesias grapson· Tade legei ho Ἀmen, ho martys ho pistos ⸀kai alethinos, he arche tes ktiseos toy theoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; "These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

Καὶ τῷ ἀγγέλῳ τῆς ἐν Λαοδικείᾳ ἐκκλησίας γράψον· Τάδε λέγει ὁ Ἀμήν, ὁ μάρτυς ὁ πιστὸς ⸀καὶ ἀληθινός, ἡ ἀρχὴ τῆς κτίσεως τοῦ θεοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): Oida sou ta erga, hoti oyte psychros ei oyte zestos. ophelon psychros es e zestos.
Edified Edition (EDE)"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot: I would you were cold or hot.

Οἶδά σου τὰ ἔργα, ὅτι οὔτε ψυχρὸς εἶ οὔτε ζεστός. ὄφελον ψυχρὸς ἦς ἢ ζεστός.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytos, hoti chliaros ei kai ⸀oyte zestos oyte psychros, mello se emesai ek toy stomatos mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)"So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth.

οὕτως, ὅτι χλιαρὸς εἶ καὶ ⸀οὔτε ζεστὸς οὔτε ψυχρός, μέλλω σε ἐμέσαι ἐκ τοῦ στόματός μου.

Phonetic (Greek): hoti legeis ⸀hoti Ploysios eimi kai peployteka kai ⸀oyden chreian echo, kai oyk oidas hoti sy ei ho talaiporos ⸀kai eleeinos kai ptochos kai typhlos kai gymnos,
Edified Edition (EDE)"Because you say, 'I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing'; and know not that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

ὅτι λέγεις ⸀ὅτι Πλούσιός εἰμι καὶ πεπλούτηκα καὶ ⸀οὐδὲν χρείαν ἔχω, καὶ οὐκ οἶδας ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ ταλαίπωρος ⸀καὶ ἐλεεινὸς καὶ πτωχὸς καὶ τυφλὸς καὶ γυμνός,

Phonetic (Greek): symbouleyo soi agorasai ⸂parʼ emoy chrysion⸃ pepyromenon ek pyros hina ploutesῃs, kai himatia leuka hina peribalῃ kai me phanerothῇ he aischyne tes gymnotetos sou, kai kolloyrion ⸀enchrisai toys ophthalmoys sou hina blepῃs.
Edified Edition (EDE)"I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white raiment, that you may be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness do not appear; and anoint your eyes with eyesalve, that you may see.

συμβουλεύω σοι ἀγοράσαι ⸂παρʼ ἐμοῦ χρυσίον⸃ πεπυρωμένον ἐκ πυρὸς ἵνα πλουτήσῃς, καὶ ἱμάτια λευκὰ ἵνα περιβάλῃ καὶ μὴ φανερωθῇ ἡ αἰσχύνη τῆς γυμνότητός σου, καὶ κολλούριον ⸀ἐγχρῖσαι τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου ἵνα βλέπῃς.

Phonetic (Greek): ego hosous ean philo elencho kai paideyo· ⸀zeleue oyn kai metanoeson.
Edified Edition (EDE)"As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline: be zealous therefore, and repent.

ἐγὼ ὅσους ἐὰν φιλῶ ἐλέγχω καὶ παιδεύω· ⸀ζήλευε οὖν καὶ μετανόησον.

Phonetic (Greek): idoy hesteka epi ten thyran kai kroyo· ean tis akoysῃ tes phones mou kai anoixῃ ten thyran, ⸀kai eiseleysomai pros ayton kai deipneso metʼ aytoy kai aytos metʼ emoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any person hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.

ἰδοὺ ἕστηκα ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν καὶ κρούω· ἐάν τις ἀκούσῃ τῆς φωνῆς μου καὶ ἀνοίξῃ τὴν θύραν, ⸀καὶ εἰσελεύσομαι πρὸς αὐτὸν καὶ δειπνήσω μετʼ αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς μετʼ ἐμοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho nikon doso aytῷ kathisai metʼ emoy en tῷ thronῳ mou, hos kago enikesa kai ekathisa meta toy patros mou en tῷ thronῳ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)"To him who overcomes will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am sat down with My Father in His throne.

ὁ νικῶν δώσω αὐτῷ καθίσαι μετʼ ἐμοῦ ἐν τῷ θρόνῳ μου, ὡς κἀγὼ ἐνίκησα καὶ ἐκάθισα μετὰ τοῦ πατρός μου ἐν τῷ θρόνῳ αὐτοῦ.
