Chapter 4
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ti oyn eroymen ⸀ehyrekenai Ἀbraam ton ⸀propatora ⸀hemon kata sarka;
Edified Edition (EDE)What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh?

Τί οὖν ἐροῦμεν ⸀εὑρηκέναι Ἀβραὰμ τὸν ⸀προπάτορα ⸀ἡμῶν κατὰ σάρκα;

2
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar Ἀbraam ex ergon edikaiothe, echei kaychema· allʼ oy ⸀pros theon,
Edified Edition (EDE)For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ti gar he graphe legei; Ἐpisteusen de Ἀbraam tῷ theῷ kai elogisthe aytῷ eis dikaiosynen.
Edified Edition (EDE)For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."

4
Phonetic (Greek): tῷ de ergazomenῳ ho misthos oy logizetai kata charin alla kata opheilema·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.

5
Phonetic (Greek): tῷ de me ergazomenῳ, pisteyonti de epi ton dikaioynta ton asebe, logizetai he pistis aytoy eis dikaiosynen,
Edified Edition (EDE)But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

6
Phonetic (Greek): kathaper kai Dauid legei ton makarismon toy anthropou ho ho theos logizetai dikaiosynen choris ergon·
Edified Edition (EDE)just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God accounts righteousness apart from works:

7
Phonetic (Greek): Makarioi hon aphethesan ahi anomiai kai hon epekalyphthesan ahi hamartiai,
Edified Edition (EDE)"Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered;

8
Phonetic (Greek): makarios aner ⸀ohy oy me logisetai kyrios hamartian.
Edified Edition (EDE)Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin."

9
Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ makarismos oyn ohytos epi ten peritomen e kai epi ten akrobystian; legomen ⸀gar· Ἐlogisthe tῷ Ἀbraam he pistis eis dikaiosynen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.

10
Phonetic (Greek): pos oyn elogisthe; en peritomῇ onti e en akrobystiᾳ; oyk en peritomῇ allʼ en akrobystiᾳ·
Edified Edition (EDE)How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised.

11
Phonetic (Greek): kai semeion elaben peritomes, sphragida tes dikaiosynes tes pisteos tes en tῇ akrobystiᾳ, eis to einai ayton patera panton ton pisteuonton diʼ akrobystias, eis to ⸀logisthenai aytois ten dikaiosynen,
Edified Edition (EDE)And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be accounted to them also,

12
Phonetic (Greek): kai patera peritomes tois oyk ek peritomes monon alla kai tois stoichoysin tois ichnesin tes ⸂en akrobystiᾳ pisteos⸃ toy patros hemon Ἀbraam.
Edified Edition (EDE)and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Oy gar dia nomou he epangelia tῷ Ἀbraam e tῷ spermati aytoy, to kleronomon ayton ⸀einai kosmou, alla dia dikaiosynes pisteos·
Edified Edition (EDE)For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his descendants through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

14
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar ohi ek nomou kleronomoi, kekenotai he pistis kai katergetai he epangelia·
Edified Edition (EDE)For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect,

15
Phonetic (Greek): ho gar nomos orgen katergazetai, ohy ⸀de oyk estin nomos, oyde parabasis.
Edified Edition (EDE)because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.

16
Phonetic (Greek): Dia toyto ek pisteos, hina kata charin, eis to einai bebaian ten epangelian panti tῷ spermati, oy tῷ ek toy nomou monon alla kai tῷ ek pisteos Ἀbraam (hos estin pater panton hemon,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

17
Phonetic (Greek): kathos gegraptai hoti Patera pollon ethnon tetheika se), katenanti ohy episteusen theoy toy zῳopoioyntos toys nekroys kai kaloyntos ta me onta hos onta·
Edified Edition (EDE)(as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed, God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

18
Phonetic (Greek): hos parʼ elpida epʼ elpidi episteusen eis to genesthai ayton patera pollon ethnon kata to eiremenon· Ohytos estai to sperma sou·
Edified Edition (EDE)who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be."

19
Phonetic (Greek): kai me asthenesas tῇ ⸀pistei katenoesen to heautoy ⸀soma nenekromenon, hekatontaetes pou hyparchon, kai ten nekrosin tes metras Sarras,
Edified Edition (EDE)And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.

20
Phonetic (Greek): eis de ten epangelian toy theoy oy diekrithe tῇ apistiᾳ alla enedynamothe tῇ pistei, doys doxan tῷ theῷ
Edified Edition (EDE)He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

21
Phonetic (Greek): kai plerophoretheis hoti ho epengeltai dynatos estin kai poiesai.
Edified Edition (EDE)and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

22
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀dio elogisthe aytῷ eis dikaiosynen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And therefore "it was accounted to him for righteousness."

23
Phonetic (Greek): Oyk egraphe de diʼ ayton monon hoti elogisthe aytῷ,
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was accounted to him,

24
Phonetic (Greek): alla kai diʼ hemas ohis mellei logizesthai, tois pisteyousin epi ton egeiranta Ἰesoyn ton kyrion hemon ek nekron,
Edified Edition (EDE)but also for us. It shall be accounted to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,

25
Phonetic (Greek): hos paredothe dia ta paraptomata hemon kai egerthe dia ten dikaiosin hemon.
Edified Edition (EDE)who was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised because of our justification.
