Chapter 9
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀletheian lego en Christῷ, oy pseydomai, symmartyroyses moi tes syneideseos mou en pneymati hagiῳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,

2
Phonetic (Greek): hoti lype moi estin megale kai adialeiptos odyne tῇ kardiᾳ mou·
Edified Edition (EDE)that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart.

3
Phonetic (Greek): eychomen gar ⸂anathema einai aytos ego⸃ apo toy Christoy hyper ton adelphon mou ton syngenon mou kata sarka,
Edified Edition (EDE)For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers, my countrymen according to the flesh,

4
Phonetic (Greek): ohitines eisin Ἰsraelitai, hon he yhiothesia kai he doxa kai ahi diathekai kai he nomothesia kai he latreia kai ahi epangeliai,
Edified Edition (EDE)who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises;

5
Phonetic (Greek): hon ohi pateres, kai ex hon ho christos to kata sarka, ho on epi panton, theos eylogetos eis toys aionas· amen.
Edified Edition (EDE)of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.

6
Phonetic (Greek): Oych ohion de hoti ekpeptoken ho logos toy theoy. oy gar pantes ohi ex Ἰsrael, ohytoi Ἰsrael·
Edified Edition (EDE)But it is not that the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel,

7
Phonetic (Greek): oydʼ hoti eisin sperma Ἀbraam, pantes tekna, allʼ· Ἐn Ἰsaak klethesetai soi sperma.
Edified Edition (EDE)nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, "In Isaac your seed shall be called."

8
Phonetic (Greek): toytʼ estin, oy ta tekna tes sarkos tayta tekna toy theoy, alla ta tekna tes epangelias logizetai eis sperma·
Edified Edition (EDE)That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

9
Phonetic (Greek): epangelias gar ho logos ohytos· Kata ton kairon toyton eleysomai kai estai tῇ Sarrᾳ yhios.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this is the word of promise: "At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son."

10
Phonetic (Greek): oy monon de, alla kai Ῥebekka ex henos koiten echousa, Ἰsaak toy patros hemon·
Edified Edition (EDE)And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac

11
Phonetic (Greek): mepo gar gennethenton mede praxanton ti agathon e ⸀phaylon, hina he katʼ eklogen prothesis toy theoy menῃ,
Edified Edition (EDE)(for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls),

12
Phonetic (Greek): oyk ex ergon allʼ ek toy kaloyntos, errethe aytῇ hoti Ὁ meizon douleysei tῷ elassoni·
Edified Edition (EDE)it was said to her, "The older shall serve the younger."

13
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kathos gegraptai· Ton Ἰakob egapesa, ton de Ἠsay emisesa.
Edified Edition (EDE)As it is written, "Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated."

14
Phonetic (Greek): Ti oyn eroymen; me adikia para tῷ theῷ; me genoito·
Edified Edition (EDE)What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not!

15
Phonetic (Greek): tῷ ⸂Moysei gar⸃ legei· Ἐleeso hon an eleo, kai oiktireso hon an oiktiro.
Edified Edition (EDE)For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion."

16
Phonetic (Greek): ara oyn oy toy thelontos oyde toy trechontos alla toy eleontos theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

17
Phonetic (Greek): legei gar he graphe tῷ Pharao hoti Eis ayto toyto exegeira se hopos endeixomai en soi ten dynamin mou, kai hopos diangelῇ to onoma mou en pasῃ tῇ gῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth."

18
Phonetic (Greek): ara oyn hon thelei eleei, hon de thelei sklerynei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.

19
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐreis ⸂moi oyn⸃· Ti ⸀oyn eti memphetai; tῷ gar boulemati aytoy tis anthesteken;
Edified Edition (EDE)You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?"

Ἐρεῖς ⸂μοι οὖν⸃· Τί ⸀οὖν ἔτι μέμφεται; τῷ γὰρ βουλήματι αὐτοῦ τίς ἀνθέστηκεν;

20
Phonetic (Greek): ⸂o anthrope, menoynge⸃ sy tis ei ho antapokrinomenos tῷ theῷ; me erei to plasma tῷ plasanti Ti me epoiesas ohytos;
Edified Edition (EDE)But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?"

⸂ὦ ἄνθρωπε, μενοῦνγε⸃ σὺ τίς εἶ ὁ ἀνταποκρινόμενος τῷ θεῷ; μὴ ἐρεῖ τὸ πλάσμα τῷ πλάσαντι Τί με ἐποίησας οὕτως;

21
Phonetic (Greek): e oyk echei exousian ho kerameys toy peloy ek toy aytoy phyramatos poiesai ho men eis timen skeyos ho de eis atimian;
Edified Edition (EDE)Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honour and another for dishonour?

ἢ οὐκ ἔχει ἐξουσίαν ὁ κεραμεὺς τοῦ πηλοῦ ἐκ τοῦ αὐτοῦ φυράματος ποιῆσαι ὃ μὲν εἰς τιμὴν σκεῦος ὃ δὲ εἰς ἀτιμίαν;

22
Phonetic (Greek): ei de thelon ho theos endeixasthai ten orgen kai gnorisai to dynaton aytoy enenken en pollῇ makrothymiᾳ skeye orges katertismena eis apoleian,
Edified Edition (EDE)What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,

23
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kai hina gnorisῃ ton ployton tes doxes aytoy epi skeye eleous, ha proetoimasen eis doxan,
Edified Edition (EDE)and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,

24
Phonetic (Greek): ohys kai ekalesen hemas oy monon ex Ἰoudaion alla kai ex ethnon;—
Edified Edition (EDE)even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

25
Phonetic (Greek): hos kai en tῷ Ὡsee legei· Kaleso ton oy laon mou laon mou kai ten oyk egapemenen egapemenen·
Edified Edition (EDE)As He says also in Hosea: "I will call them My people, who were not My people, And her beloved, who was not beloved."

26
Phonetic (Greek): kai estai en tῷ topῳ ohy errethe ⸀aytois· Oy laos mou hymeis, ekei klethesontai yhioi theoy zontos.
Edified Edition (EDE)"And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ There they shall be called sons of the living God."

27
Phonetic (Greek): Ἠsaias de krazei hyper toy Ἰsrael· Ἐan e ho arithmos ton yhion Ἰsrael hos he ammos tes thalasses, to ⸀hypoleimma sothesetai·
Edified Edition (EDE)Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel: "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, The remnant will be saved.

28
Phonetic (Greek): logon gar syntelon kai ⸀syntemnon poiesei kyrios epi tes ges.
Edified Edition (EDE)For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, Because the LORD will make a short work upon the earth."

29
Phonetic (Greek): kai kathos proeireken Ἠsaias· Ei me kyrios Sabaoth enkatelipen hemin sperma, hos Sodoma an egenethemen kai hos Gomorra an homoiothemen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And as Isaiah said before: "Unless the LORD of Sabbaoth had left us a seed, We would have become like Sodom, And we would have been made like Gomorrah."

30
Phonetic (Greek): Ti oyn eroymen; hoti ethne ta me diokonta dikaiosynen katelaben dikaiosynen, dikaiosynen de ten ek pisteos·
Edified Edition (EDE)What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;

31
Phonetic (Greek): Ἰsrael de diokon nomon dikaiosynes eis ⸀nomon oyk ephthasen.
Edified Edition (EDE)but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness.

32
Phonetic (Greek): dia ti; hoti oyk ek pisteos allʼ hos ex ⸀ergon· ⸀prosekopsan tῷ lithῳ toy proskommatos,
Edified Edition (EDE)Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.

33
Phonetic (Greek): kathos gegraptai· Ἰdoy tithemi en Sion lithon proskommatos kai petran skandalou, ⸀kai ho pisteyon epʼ aytῷ oy kataischynthesetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)As it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offence, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."
