Chapter 3
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ὑpomimnῃske aytoys ⸀archais exousiais hypotassesthai peitharchein, pros pan ergon agathon hetoimous einai,
Edified Edition (EDE)Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

Ὑπομίμνῃσκε αὐτοὺς ⸀ἀρχαῖς ἐξουσίαις ὑποτάσσεσθαι πειθαρχεῖν, πρὸς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἑτοίμους εἶναι,

Phonetic (Greek): medena blasphemein, amachous einai, epieikeis, pasan endeiknymenous prayteta pros pantas anthropous.
Edified Edition (EDE)To speak evil of no one, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all gentleness to all people.

μηδένα βλασφημεῖν, ἀμάχους εἶναι, ἐπιεικεῖς, πᾶσαν ἐνδεικνυμένους πραΰτητα πρὸς πάντας ἀνθρώπους.

Phonetic (Greek): emen gar pote kai hemeis anoetoi, apeitheis, planomenoi, douleyontes epithymiais kai hedonais poikilais, en kakiᾳ kai phthonῳ diagontes, stygetoi, misoyntes allelous.
Edified Edition (EDE)For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

ἦμεν γάρ ποτε καὶ ἡμεῖς ἀνόητοι, ἀπειθεῖς, πλανώμενοι, δουλεύοντες ἐπιθυμίαις καὶ ἡδοναῖς ποικίλαις, ἐν κακίᾳ καὶ φθόνῳ διάγοντες, στυγητοί, μισοῦντες ἀλλήλους.

Phonetic (Greek): hote de he chrestotes kai he philanthropia epephane toy soteros hemon theoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward people appeared,

ὅτε δὲ ἡ χρηστότης καὶ ἡ φιλανθρωπία ἐπεφάνη τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν θεοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): oyk ex ergon ton en dikaiosynῃ ⸀ha epoiesamen hemeis alla kata ⸂to aytoy eleos⸃ esosen hemas dia loutroy palingenesias kai anakainoseos pneymatos hagiou,
Edified Edition (EDE)Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit;

οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων τῶν ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ ⸀ἃ ἐποιήσαμεν ἡμεῖς ἀλλὰ κατὰ ⸂τὸ αὐτοῦ ἔλεος⸃ ἔσωσεν ἡμᾶς διὰ λουτροῦ παλιγγενεσίας καὶ ἀνακαινώσεως πνεύματος ἁγίου,

Phonetic (Greek): ohy execheen ephʼ hemas plousios dia Ἰesoy Christoy toy soteros hemon,
Edified Edition (EDE)Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

οὗ ἐξέχεεν ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς πλουσίως διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν,

Phonetic (Greek): hina dikaiothentes tῇ ekeinou chariti kleronomoi ⸀genethomen katʼ elpida zoes aioniou.
Edified Edition (EDE)That being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

ἵνα δικαιωθέντες τῇ ἐκείνου χάριτι κληρονόμοι ⸀γενηθῶμεν κατʼ ἐλπίδα ζωῆς αἰωνίου.

Phonetic (Greek): Pistos ho logos, kai peri toyton boylomai se diabebaioysthai, hina phrontizosin kalon ergon proistasthai ohi pepisteukotes theῷ. tayta ⸀estin kala kai ophelima tois anthropois·
Edified Edition (EDE)This is a faithful saying, and these things I desire that you affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to people.

Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος, καὶ περὶ τούτων βούλομαί σε διαβεβαιοῦσθαι, ἵνα φροντίζωσιν καλῶν ἔργων προΐστασθαι οἱ πεπιστευκότες θεῷ. ταῦτά ⸀ἐστιν καλὰ καὶ ὠφέλιμα τοῖς ἀνθρώποις·

Phonetic (Greek): moras de zeteseis kai genealogias kai ⸀ereis kai machas nomikas periistaso, eisin gar anopheleis kai mataioi.
Edified Edition (EDE)But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

μωρὰς δὲ ζητήσεις καὶ γενεαλογίας καὶ ⸀ἔρεις καὶ μάχας νομικὰς περιΐστασο, εἰσὶν γὰρ ἀνωφελεῖς καὶ μάταιοι.

Phonetic (Greek): ahiretikon anthropon meta mian kai deuteran nouthesian paraitoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)A person who is a heretic after the first and second admonition reject;

αἱρετικὸν ἄνθρωπον μετὰ μίαν καὶ δευτέραν νουθεσίαν παραιτοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): eidos hoti exestraptai ho toioytos kai hamartanei, on aytokatakritos.
Edified Edition (EDE)Knowing that he who is such is subverted, and sins, being condemned of himself.

εἰδὼς ὅτι ἐξέστραπται ὁ τοιοῦτος καὶ ἁμαρτάνει, ὢν αὐτοκατάκριτος.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὅtan pempso Ἀrteman pros se e Tychikon, spoydason elthein pros me eis Nikopolin, ekei gar kekrika paracheimasai.
Edified Edition (EDE)When I shall send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

Ὅταν πέμψω Ἀρτεμᾶν πρὸς σὲ ἢ Τυχικόν, σπούδασον ἐλθεῖν πρός με εἰς Νικόπολιν, ἐκεῖ γὰρ κέκρικα παραχειμάσαι.

Phonetic (Greek): Zenan ton nomikon kai ⸀Ἀpollon spoudaios propempson, hina meden aytois leipῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting to them.

Ζηνᾶν τὸν νομικὸν καὶ ⸀Ἀπολλῶν σπουδαίως πρόπεμψον, ἵνα μηδὲν αὐτοῖς λείπῃ.

Phonetic (Greek): manthanetosan de kai ohi hemeteroi kalon ergon proistasthai eis tas anankaias chreias, hina me osin akarpoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

μανθανέτωσαν δὲ καὶ οἱ ἡμέτεροι καλῶν ἔργων προΐστασθαι εἰς τὰς ἀναγκαίας χρείας, ἵνα μὴ ὦσιν ἄκαρποι.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀspazontai se ohi metʼ emoy pantes. aspasai toys philoyntas hemas en pistei. he charis meta panton ⸀hymon.
Edified Edition (EDE)All who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.

Ἀσπάζονταί σε οἱ μετʼ ἐμοῦ πάντες. ἄσπασαι τοὺς φιλοῦντας ἡμᾶς ἐν πίστει. ἡ χάρις μετὰ πάντων ⸀ὑμῶν.
