Chapter 22

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer dּavi֔yd ze֣h h֔u bּe֖yt yehva֣h ha'elohi֑ym vezeh-mּizebּe֥cha le'ola֖h leyishsera'eֽl׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Then David said, "This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel."

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔יד זֶ֣ה ה֔וּא בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֣ה הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְזֶה־מִּזְבֵּ֥חַ לְעֹלָ֖ה לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer dּavi֔yd likenos֙ 'et-hagּeri֔ym 'ashshe֖r bּe'e֣retz yishsera'e֑l vayּa'ame֣d choֽtzebi֗ym lachetzob֙ 'abene֣y gazi֔yt liben֖ot bּe֥yt ha'elohiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So David gave orders to gather the foreigners who were in the land of Israel; and he appointed stonecutters to cut finished stones to build the house of God.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔יד לִכְנוֹס֙ אֶת־הַגֵּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּאֶ֣רֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּעֲמֵ֣ד חֹֽצְבִ֗ים לַחְצוֹב֙ אַבְנֵ֣י גָזִ֔ית לִבְנ֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubareze֣l ׀ la֠rob laֽmּisemeri֞ym ledalet֧ot hashshּe'ari֛ym velaֽmechabּer֖ot heki֣yn dּavi֑yd unecho֥shshet laro֖b 'e֥yn mishsheqaֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And David prepared large amounts of iron for the nails of the doors of the gates and for the couplings, and more bronze than could be weighed,

וּבַרְזֶ֣ל ׀ לָ֠רֹב לַֽמִּסְמְרִ֞ים לְדַלְת֧וֹת הַשְּׁעָרִ֛ים וְלַֽמְחַבְּר֖וֹת הֵכִ֣ין דָּוִ֑יד וּנְחֹ֥שֶׁת לָרֹ֖ב אֵ֥ין מִשְׁקָֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'atze֥y 'arazi֖ym le'e֣yn misepּa֑r kּiֽy he֠biy'u hatzּiֽydoni֨ym vehatzּori֜ym 'atze֧y 'arazi֛ym laro֖b ledaviֽyd׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)and cedar logs beyond number; for the Sidonians and those from Tyre brought much cedar wood to David.

וַעֲצֵ֥י אֲרָזִ֖ים לְאֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר כִּֽי הֵ֠בִיאוּ הַצִּֽידֹנִ֨ים וְהַצֹּרִ֜ים עֲצֵ֧י אֲרָזִ֛ים לָרֹ֖ב לְדָוִֽיד׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer dּavi֗yd shshelomo֣h beniy֮ na֣'ar varake֒ vehabּa֜yit liben֣ot layhva֗h lehagedּi֨yl ׀ lema֜'elah leshshe֤m uletipe'e֨ret֙ lekal-ha֣'aratz֔ot 'aki֥ynah nּa֖ l֑o vayּa֧ken dּavi֛yd laro֖b lipene֥y motֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now David said, "Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all countries. I will therefore now make preparation for it." So David made abundant preparations before his death.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗יד שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנִי֮ נַ֣עַר וָרָךְ֒ וְהַבַּ֜יִת לִבְנ֣וֹת לַיהוָ֗ה לְהַגְדִּ֨יל ׀ לְמַ֜עְלָה לְשֵׁ֤ם וּלְתִפְאֶ֨רֶת֙ לְכָל־הָ֣אֲרָצ֔וֹת אָכִ֥ינָה נָּ֖א ל֑וֹ וַיָּ֧כֶן דָּוִ֛יד לָרֹ֖ב לִפְנֵ֥י מוֹתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqera֖ lishshelomo֣h ben֑o vayetzaue֨hu֙ liben֣ot bּa֔yit layhva֖h 'elohe֥y yishsera'eֽl׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Then he called for his son Solomon, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.

וַיִּקְרָ֖א לִשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנ֑וֹ וַיְצַוֵּ֨הוּ֙ לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֥'mer dּavi֖yd lishshelomo֑h bnv bּeni֕y 'aniy֙ haya֣h 'im-lebabi֔y liben֣ot bּa֔yit leshshe֖m yehva֥h 'elohaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And David said to Solomon, "My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the LORD my God;

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר דָּוִ֖יד לִשְׁלֹמֹ֑ה בנו בְּנִ֕י אֲנִי֙ הָיָ֣ה עִם־לְבָבִ֔י לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֖ם יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֨y 'ala֤y dּebar-yehvah֙ le'mo֔r dּa֤m larob֙ shshapa֔ketּa umilecham֥ot gּedol֖ot 'ashsi֑yta loֽ'-tibene֥h ba֨yit֙ lishshemi֔y kּi֚y dּami֣ym rabּi֔ym shshapa֥ketּa 'a֖retzah lepanaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)but the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'You have shed much blood and have made great wars; you shall not build a house to My name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight.

וַיְהִ֨י עָלַ֤י דְּבַר־יְהוָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר דָּ֤ם לָרֹב֙ שָׁפַ֔כְתָּ וּמִלְחָמ֥וֹת גְּדֹל֖וֹת עָשִׂ֑יתָ לֹֽא־תִבְנֶ֥ה בַ֨יִת֙ לִשְׁמִ֔י כִּ֚י דָּמִ֣ים רַבִּ֔ים שָׁפַ֥כְתָּ אַ֖רְצָה לְפָנָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּeh-be֞n nola֣d la֗ke h֤u yiheyeh֙ 'i֣yshsh menucha֔h vahanich֥otiy l֛o mikּal-'oyeba֖yv misּabi֑yb kּi֤y shshelomoh֙ yiheye֣h shshem֔o veshshal֥om vashshe֛qet 'etּe֥n 'al-yishsera'e֖l bּeyamaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around. His name shall be Solomon, for I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

הִנֵּה־בֵ֞ן נוֹלָ֣ד לָ֗ךְ ה֤וּא יִהְיֶה֙ אִ֣ישׁ מְנוּחָ֔ה וַהֲנִח֥וֹתִי ל֛וֹ מִכָּל־אוֹיְבָ֖יו מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּ֤י שְׁלֹמֹה֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה שְׁמ֔וֹ וְשָׁל֥וֹם וָשֶׁ֛קֶט אֶתֵּ֥ן עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּיָמָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hֽu'-yibene֥h ba֨yit֙ lishshemi֔y vehu'֙ yiheyeh-lּi֣y lebe֔n va'aniy-l֖o le'a֑b vahaki֨ynoti֜y kּisּe֧ malekut֛o 'al-yishsera'e֖l 'ad-'olaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son, and I will be his Father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.'

הֽוּא־יִבְנֶ֥ה בַ֨יִת֙ לִשְׁמִ֔י וְהוּא֙ יִהְיֶה־לִּ֣י לְבֵ֔ן וַאֲנִי־ל֖וֹ לְאָ֑ב וַהֲכִ֨ינוֹתִ֜י כִּסֵּ֧א מַלְכוּת֛וֹ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): atּa֣h beni֔y yehi֥y yehva֖h 'imּa֑ke vehitzelachetּa֗ ubani֨yta֙ bּe֚yt yehva֣h 'elohe֔yka kּa'ashshe֖r dּibּe֥r 'aleֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now, my son, may the LORD be with you; and may you prosper, and build the house of the LORD your God, as He has said to you.

עַתָּ֣ה בְנִ֔י יְהִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה עִמָּ֑ךְ וְהִצְלַחְתָּ֗ וּבָנִ֨יתָ֙ בֵּ֚ית יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר עָלֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): a֣ke yiֽtּen-lּeka֤ yehvah֙ shse֣kel ubiyna֔h viֽytzaueka֖ 'al-yishsera'e֑l velishshem֕or 'et-tּora֖t yehva֥h 'eloheֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Only may the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God.

אַ֣ךְ יִֽתֶּן־לְּךָ֤ יְהוָה֙ שֵׂ֣כֶל וּבִינָ֔ה וִֽיצַוְּךָ֖ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלִשְׁמ֕וֹר אֶת־תּוֹרַ֖ת יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): a֣z tּatzeli֔ycha 'im-tּishshem֗or la'ashsot֙ 'et-haֽchuqּi֣ym ve'et-hamּishshepּati֔ym 'ashshe֨r tziua֧h yehva֛h 'et-moshshe֖h 'al-yishsera'e֑l chaza֣q ve'ema֔tz 'al-tּiyra֖ ve'al-tּechaֽt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then you will prosper, if you take care to fulfil the statutes and judgements which the LORD commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and of good courage; do not dread or be dismayed.

אָ֣ז תַּצְלִ֔יחַ אִם־תִּשְׁמ֗וֹר לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ אֶת־הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים וְאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל חֲזַ֣ק וֶאֱמָ֔ץ אַל־תִּירָ֖א וְאַל־תֵּחָֽת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehinּe֨h be'aneyi֜y hakiyn֣otiy lebeyt-yehva֗h zaha֞b kּikּari֤ym meֽ'ah-'e֨lep֙ veke֗sep 'e֤lep 'alapiym֙ kּikּari֔ym velanּecho֤shshet velabּarezel֙ 'e֣yn mishsheqa֔l kּi֥y laro֖b haya֑h ve'etzi֤ym va'abaniym֙ hakiyn֔otiy va'aleyhe֖m tּosiֽyp׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Indeed, with much effort I have prepared for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weighing, for it is so abundant. I have also prepared timber and stone, and you may add to them.

וְהִנֵּ֨ה בְעָנְיִ֜י הֲכִינ֣וֹתִי לְבֵית־יְהוָ֗ה זָהָ֞ב כִּכָּרִ֤ים מֵֽאָה־אֶ֨לֶף֙ וְכֶ֗סֶף אֶ֤לֶף אֲלָפִים֙ כִּכָּרִ֔ים וְלַנְּחֹ֤שֶׁת וְלַבַּרְזֶל֙ אֵ֣ין מִשְׁקָ֔ל כִּ֥י לָרֹ֖ב הָיָ֑ה וְעֵצִ֤ים וַאֲבָנִים֙ הֲכִינ֔וֹתִי וַעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם תּוֹסִֽיף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'imּeka֤ larob֙ 'oshse֣y mela'ka֔h chotzebi֕ym vecharashshe֥y 'e֖ben va'e֑tz vekal-chaka֖m bּekal-mela'kaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover there are many workmen with you: stonecutters and masons and carpenters, and all kinds of skilful men for every kind of work.

וְעִמְּךָ֤ לָרֹב֙ עֹשֵׂ֣י מְלָאכָ֔ה חֹצְבִ֕ים וְחָרָשֵׁ֥י אֶ֖בֶן וָעֵ֑ץ וְכָל־חָכָ֖ם בְּכָל־מְלָאכָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lazּaha֥b lakּe֛sep velanּecho֥shshet velabּareze֖l 'e֣yn misepּa֑r q֣um va'ashse֔h viyhi֥y yehva֖h 'imּaֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Of gold and silver and bronze and iron there is no limit. Arise and begin working, and the LORD be with you.

לַזָּהָ֥ב לַכֶּ֛סֶף וְלַנְּחֹ֥שֶׁת וְלַבַּרְזֶ֖ל אֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר ק֣וּם וַעֲשֵׂ֔ה וִיהִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה עִמָּֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetza֤v dּaviyd֙ lekal-shsare֣y yishsera'e֔l la'ezo֖r lishshelomo֥h benֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

וַיְצַ֤ו דָּוִיד֙ לְכָל־שָׂרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַעְזֹ֖ר לִשְׁלֹמֹ֥ה בְנֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): halo֨ yehva֤h 'eloֽheykem֙ 'imּake֔m veheni֥ycha lake֖m misּabi֑yb kּi֣y ׀ nata֣n bּeyadi֗y 'e֚t yoshshebe֣y ha'a֔retz venikebּeshsha֥h ha'a֛retz lipene֥y yehva֖h velipene֥y 'amּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Is not the LORD your God with you? And has He not given you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the LORD and before His people.

הֲלֹ֨א יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ עִמָּכֶ֔ם וְהֵנִ֥יחַ לָכֶ֖ם מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּ֣י ׀ נָתַ֣ן בְּיָדִ֗י אֵ֚ת יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ וְנִכְבְּשָׁ֥ה הָאָ֛רֶץ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה וְלִפְנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): atּa֗h tּen֤u lebabekem֙ venapeshsheke֔m lider֖oshsh layhva֣h 'eloheyke֑m veq֗umu ubenu֙ 'et-miqedּashsh֙ yehva֣h hֽa'elohi֔ym lehabi֞y 'et-'ar֣on bּeriyt-yehva֗h ukeley֙ qo֣deshsh haֽ'elohi֔ym labּa֖yit hanּibene֥h leshshem-yehvaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God. Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the LORD."

עַתָּ֗ה תְּנ֤וּ לְבַבְכֶם֙ וְנַפְשְׁכֶ֔ם לִדְר֖וֹשׁ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְק֗וּמוּ וּבְנוּ֙ אֶת־מִקְדַּשׁ֙ יְהוָ֣ה הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהָבִ֞יא אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֗ה וּכְלֵי֙ קֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לַבַּ֖יִת הַנִּבְנֶ֥ה לְשֵׁם־יְהוָֽה׃פ
