Chapter 15
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubishshenat֙ shshemone֣h 'eshsere֔h lamּe֖leke yarabe'a֣m bּen-neba֑t mala֥ke 'abiyּa֖m 'al-yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah became king of Judah,

וּבִשְׁנַת֙ שְׁמֹנֶ֣ה עֶשְׂרֵ֔ה לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־נְבָ֑ט מָלַ֥ךְ אֲבִיָּ֖ם עַל־יְהוּדָֽה׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshalo֣shsh shshani֔ym mala֖ke bּiyrushshala֑im veshshe֣m 'imּ֔o ma'aka֖h bּat-'abiyshshalֽom׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and he reigned in Jerusalem for three years. His mother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom.

שָׁלֹ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֔ים מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ מַעֲכָ֖ה בַּת־אֲבִישָׁלֽוֹם׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֕leke bּekal-chatּo֥'vt 'abi֖yv 'ashsher-'ashsa֣h lepana֑yv velo'-haya֨h lebab֤o shshalem֙ 'im-yehva֣h 'eloha֔yv kּileba֖b dּavi֥d 'abiֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been.

וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ בְּכָל־חַטֹּ֥אות אָבִ֖יו אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֣ה לְפָנָ֑יו וְלֹא־הָיָ֨ה לְבָב֤וֹ שָׁלֵם֙ עִם־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔יו כִּלְבַ֖ב דָּוִ֥ד אָבִֽיו׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֚y lema֣'an dּavi֔d natan֩ yehva֨h 'eloha֥yv l֛o ni֖yr bּiyrushshala֑im lehaqi֤ym 'et-bּeno֙ 'achara֔yv uֽleha'ami֖yd 'et-yerushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless, for David’s sake the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong.

כִּ֚י לְמַ֣עַן דָּוִ֔ד נָתַן֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהָ֥יו ל֛וֹ נִ֖יר בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם לְהָקִ֤ים אֶת־בְּנוֹ֙ אַחֲרָ֔יו וּֽלְהַעֲמִ֖יד אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): ashshe֨r 'ashsa֥h davi֛d 'et-hayּashsha֖r bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h veloֽ'-sa֞r mikּo֣l 'ashsher-tziua֗hu kּo֚l yeme֣y chayּa֔yv ra֕q bּideba֖r 'uriyּa֥h hachitּiֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not failed to keep any of the LORD’s commands all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֥ה דָוִ֛ד אֶת־הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְלֹֽא־סָ֞ר מִכֹּ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֗הוּ כֹּ֚ל יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֔יו רַ֕ק בִּדְבַ֖ר אוּרִיָּ֥ה הַחִתִּֽי׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): umilechama֨h hayeta֧h beyn-rechabe'a֛m ube֥yn yarabe'a֖m kּal-yeme֥y chayּaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime.

וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה הָיְתָ֧ה בֵין־רְחַבְעָ֛ם וּבֵ֥ין יָרָבְעָ֖ם כָּל־יְמֵ֥י חַיָּֽיו׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֨ter dּibere֤y 'abiyּam֙ vekal-'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֔h halֽo'-he֣m kּetubi֗ym 'al-se֛per dּibere֥y hayּami֖ym lemaleke֣y yehuda֑h umilechama֥h hayeta֛h bּe֥yn 'abiyּa֖m ube֥yn yarabe'aֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As for the other events of Abijah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֤י אֲבִיָּם֙ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה הֲלֽוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וּמִלְחָמָ֥ה הָיְתָ֛ה בֵּ֥ין אֲבִיָּ֖ם וּבֵ֥ין יָרָבְעָֽם׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshekּa֤b 'abiyּam֙ 'im-'abota֔yv vayּiqebּer֥u 'ot֖o bּe'i֣yr dּavi֑d vayּimelo֛ke 'asa֥ ben֖o tּachetּaֽyv׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב אֲבִיָּם֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ בְּעִ֣יר דָּוִ֑ד וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אָסָ֥א בְנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubishshena֣t 'eshseri֔ym leyarabe'a֖m me֣leke yishsera'e֑l mala֥ke 'asa֖ me֥leke yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah,

וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת עֶשְׂרִ֔ים לְיָרָבְעָ֖ם מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מָלַ֥ךְ אָסָ֖א מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'arebּa'i֤ym ve'achat֙ shshana֔h mala֖ke bּiyrushshala֑im veshshe֣m 'imּ֔o ma'aka֖h bּat-'abiyshshalֽom׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and he reigned in Jerusalem for forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maakah daughter of Abishalom.

וְאַרְבָּעִ֤ים וְאַחַת֙ שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ מַעֲכָ֖ה בַּת־אֲבִישָׁלֽוֹם׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֧'ashs 'asa֛ hayּashsha֖r bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h kּedavi֖d 'abiֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done.

וַיַּ֧עַשׂ אָסָ֛א הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כְּדָוִ֖ד אָבִֽיו׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'abe֥r haqּedeshshi֖ym min-ha'a֑retz vayּa֨sar֙ 'et-kּal-hagּilּuli֔ym 'ashshe֥r 'ashs֖u 'abotaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He expelled the male shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made.

וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר הַקְּדֵשִׁ֖ים מִן־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּ֨סַר֙ אֶת־כָּל־הַגִּלֻּלִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשׂ֖וּ אֲבֹתָֽיו׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vega֣m ׀ 'et-ma'aka֣h 'imּ֗o vayesire֨ha֙ migּebiyra֔h 'ashsher-'ashseta֥h mipele֖tzet la'ashshera֑h vayּikero֤t 'asa'֙ 'et-mipelatzetּa֔hּ vayּishsero֖p bּena֥chal qiderֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He even deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a detestable Asherah pole. Asa cut the pole down and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

וְגַ֣ם ׀ אֶת־מַעֲכָ֣ה אִמּ֗וֹ וַיְסִרֶ֨הָ֙ מִגְּבִירָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־עָשְׂתָ֥ה מִפְלֶ֖צֶת לָאֲשֵׁרָ֑ה וַיִּכְרֹ֤ת אָסָא֙ אֶת־מִפְלַצְתָּ֔הּ וַיִּשְׂרֹ֖ף בְּנַ֥חַל קִדְרֽוֹן׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehabּam֖ot lo'-sa֑ru ra֣q lebab-'asa֗ haya֥h shshale֛m 'im-yehva֖h kּal-yamaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.

וְהַבָּמ֖וֹת לֹא־סָ֑רוּ רַ֣ק לְבַב־אָסָ֗א הָיָ֥ה שָׁלֵ֛ם עִם־יְהוָ֖ה כָּל־יָמָֽיו׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabe'֙ 'et-qadeshshe֣y 'abi֔yv vqdshv veqadeshshe֖y bּe֣yt yehva֑h kּe֥sep vezaha֖b vekeliֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He brought into the temple of the LORD the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.

וַיָּבֵא֙ אֶת־קָדְשֵׁ֣י אָבִ֔יו וקדשו וְקָדְשֵׁ֖י בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה כֶּ֥סֶף וְזָהָ֖ב וְכֵלִֽים׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): umilechama֨h hayeta֜h bּe֣yn 'asa֗ ube֛yn bּa'eshsha֥ meֽleke-yishsera'e֖l kּal-yemeyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.

וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה הָיְתָ֜ה בֵּ֣ין אָסָ֗א וּבֵ֛ין בַּעְשָׁ֥א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כָּל־יְמֵיהֶֽם׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨'al bּa'eshsha֤ meֽleke-yishsera'el֙ 'al-yehuda֔h vayּi֖ben 'et-harama֑h lebiletּi֗y tּe֚t yotze֣ vaba֔ le'asa֖ me֥leke yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.

וַיַּ֨עַל בַּעְשָׁ֤א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ עַל־יְהוּדָ֔ה וַיִּ֖בֶן אֶת־הָרָמָ֑ה לְבִלְתִּ֗י תֵּ֚ת יֹצֵ֣א וָבָ֔א לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּa֣ch 'a֠sa 'et-kּal-hakּe֨sep vehazּaha֜b haֽnּotari֣ym ׀ bּe'otzer֣ot bּeyt-yehva֗h ve'et-'ֽotzerot֙ bּe֣yt mlk hamּe֔leke vaֽyּitּene֖m bּeyad-'abada֑yv vayּishshelache֞m hamּe֣leke 'asa֗ 'el-bּen-ha֠dad bּen-taberimּo֤n bּen-chezeyon֙ me֣leke 'ara֔m hayּoshshe֥b bּedamּe֖shseq le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Asa then took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the LORD’s temple and of his own palace. He entrusted it to his officials and sent them to Ben-Hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus.

וַיִּקַּ֣ח אָ֠סָא אֶת־כָּל־הַכֶּ֨סֶף וְהַזָּהָ֜ב הַֽנּוֹתָרִ֣ים ׀ בְּאוֹצְר֣וֹת בֵּית־יְהוָ֗ה וְאֶת־אֽוֹצְרוֹת֙ בֵּ֣ית מלך הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם בְּיַד־עֲבָדָ֑יו וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֞ם הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אָסָ֗א אֶל־בֶּן־הֲ֠דַד בֶּן־טַבְרִמֹּ֤ן בֶּן־חֶזְיוֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם הַיֹּשֵׁ֥ב בְּדַמֶּ֖שֶׂק לֵאמֹֽר׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeriyt֙ bּeyni֣y ubeyne֔ka bּe֥yn 'abi֖y ube֣yn 'abi֑yka hinּeh֩ shshala֨chetּiֽy leka֥ shsho֨chad֙ kּe֣sep vezaha֔b le֣ke hape֗rah 'et-bּeriֽyteka֙ 'et-bּa'eshsha֣ meֽleke-yishsera'e֔l veya'ale֖h me'alaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'Let there be a treaty between me and you,' he said, 'as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you a gift of silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.'

בְּרִית֙ בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֔ךָ בֵּ֥ין אָבִ֖י וּבֵ֣ין אָבִ֑יךָ הִנֵּה֩ שָׁלַ֨חְתִּֽי לְךָ֥ שֹׁ֨חַד֙ כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֔ב לֵ֣ךְ הָפֵ֗רָה אֶת־בְּרִֽיתְךָ֙ אֶת־בַּעְשָׁ֣א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְיַעֲלֶ֖ה מֵעָלָֽי׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshema֨ bּen-hada֜d 'el-hamּe֣leke 'asa֗ va֠yּishshelach 'et-shsare֨y hachayali֤ym 'ashsher-lo֙ 'al-'are֣y yishsera'e֔l vayּake֙ 'et-'iyּ֣on ve'et-dּa֔n ve'e֖t 'abe֣l bּeֽyt-ma'aka֑h ve'et֙ kּal-kּiner֔ot 'a֖l kּal-'e֥retz napetּaliֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. He conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maakah and all KinnerS in addition to Naphtali.

וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע בֶּן־הֲדַ֜ד אֶל־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אָסָ֗א וַ֠יִּשְׁלַח אֶת־שָׂרֵ֨י הַחֲיָלִ֤ים אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ֙ עַל־עָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיַּךְ֙ אֶת־עִיּ֣וֹן וְאֶת־דָּ֔ן וְאֵ֖ת אָבֵ֣ל בֵּֽית־מַעֲכָ֑ה וְאֵת֙ כָּל־כִּנְר֔וֹת עַ֖ל כָּל־אֶ֥רֶץ נַפְתָּלִֽי׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy֙ kּishshemo֣'a bּa'eshsha֔ vayּechedּa֕l mibּen֖ot 'et-hֽarama֑h vayּe֖shsheb bּetiretzaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and withdrew to Tirzah.

וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ בַּעְשָׁ֔א וַיֶּחְדַּ֕ל מִבְּנ֖וֹת אֶת־הָֽרָמָ֑ה וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב בְּתִרְצָֽה׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehamּe֨leke 'asa֜ hishshemi֤y'a 'et-kּal-yehudah֙ 'e֣yn naqi֔y vayּishse'֞u 'et-'abene֤y haֽramah֙ ve'et-'etze֔yha 'ashshe֥r bּana֖h bּa'eshsha֑ vayּi֤ben bּam֙ hamּe֣leke 'asa֔ 'et-gּe֥ba bּineyami֖n ve'et-hamּitzepּaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then King Asa issued a proclamation to all Judah, no one was exempt, and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using. With them King Asa built up Geba in Benjamin, and also Mizpah.

וְהַמֶּ֨לֶךְ אָסָ֜א הִשְׁמִ֤יעַ אֶת־כָּל־יְהוּדָה֙ אֵ֣ין נָקִ֔י וַיִּשְׂא֞וּ אֶת־אַבְנֵ֤י הָֽרָמָה֙ וְאֶת־עֵצֶ֔יהָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנָ֖ה בַּעְשָׁ֑א וַיִּ֤בֶן בָּם֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אָסָ֔א אֶת־גֶּ֥בַע בִּנְיָמִ֖ן וְאֶת־הַמִּצְפָּֽה׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֣ter kּal-dּibereֽy-'a֠sa vekal-gּeb֨urat֜o vekal-'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֗h veheֽ'ariym֙ 'ashshe֣r bּana֔h haloֽ'-he֣mּah ketubi֗ym 'al-se֛per dּibere֥y hayּami֖ym lemaleke֣y yehuda֑h ra֚q le'e֣t ziqenat֔o chala֖h 'et-ragelaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As for all the other events of Asa’s reign, all his achievements, all he did and the cities he built, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? In his old age, however, his feet became diseased.

וְיֶ֣תֶר כָּל־דִּבְרֵֽי־אָ֠סָא וְכָל־גְּב֨וּרָת֜וֹ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֗ה וְהֶֽעָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנָ֔ה הֲלֹֽא־הֵ֣מָּה כְתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה רַ֚ק לְעֵ֣ת זִקְנָת֔וֹ חָלָ֖ה אֶת־רַגְלָֽיו׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshekּa֤b 'asa'֙ 'im-'abota֔yv vayּiqּaber֙ 'im-'abota֔yv bּe'i֖yr dּavi֣d 'abi֑yv vayּimelo֛ke yehoshshapa֥t bּen֖o tּachetּaֽyv׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Asa rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב אָסָא֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקָּבֵר֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו בְּעִ֖יר דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑יו וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ יְהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): venada֣b bּen-yarabe'a֗m malake֙ 'al-yishsera'e֔l bּishshena֣t shshetּa֔yim le'asa֖ me֣leke yehuda֑h vayּimelo֥ke 'al-yishsera'e֖l shshenataֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.

וְנָדָ֣ב בֶּן־יָרָבְעָ֗ם מָלַךְ֙ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שְׁתַּ֔יִם לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שְׁנָתָֽיִם׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥'ashs hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h vayּe֨leke֙ bּede֣reke 'abi֔yv u֨bechatּa't֔o 'ashshe֥r hecheti֖y 'et-yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the ways of his father and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ אָבִ֔יו וּ֨בְחַטָּאת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqeshsho֨r 'ala֜yv bּa'eshsha֤ ben-'achiyּah֙ lebe֣yt yishsּashka֔r vayּakּe֣hu ba'eshsha֔ bּegibּet֖on 'ashshe֣r lapּelishshetּi֑ym venadab֙ vekal-yishsera'e֔l tzari֖ym 'aֽl-gּibּetֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Baasha son of Ahijah from the tribe of Issachar conspired against him, and he struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it.

וַיִּקְשֹׁ֨ר עָלָ֜יו בַּעְשָׁ֤א בֶן־אֲחִיָּה֙ לְבֵ֣ית יִשָּׂשכָ֔ר וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ בַעְשָׁ֔א בְּגִבְּת֖וֹן אֲשֶׁ֣ר לַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וְנָדָב֙ וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל צָרִ֖ים עַֽל־גִּבְּתֽוֹן׃

28

Edified Edition (EDE)Baasha killed Nadab in the third year of Asa king of Judah and succeeded him as king.

וַיְמִתֵ֣הוּ בַעְשָׁ֔א בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שָׁלֹ֔שׁ לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y kemalek֗o hikּah֙ 'et-kּal-bּe֣yt yarabe'a֔m loֽ'-hishshe'i֧yr kּal-neshshama֛h leyarabe'a֖m 'ad-hishshemid֑o kּideba֣r yehva֔h 'ashshe֣r dּibּe֔r bּeyad-'abedּ֖o 'achiyּa֥h hashshּiyloniֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As soon as he began to reign, he killed Jeroboam’s whole family. He did not leave Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all, according to the word of the LORD given through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite.

וַיְהִ֣י כְמָלְכ֗וֹ הִכָּה֙ אֶת־כָּל־בֵּ֣ית יָרָבְעָ֔ם לֹֽא־הִשְׁאִ֧יר כָּל־נְשָׁמָ֛ה לְיָרָבְעָ֖ם עַד־הִשְׁמִד֑וֹ כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֔ר בְּיַד־עַבְדּ֖וֹ אֲחִיָּ֥ה הַשִּׁילֹנִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-chatּo֤'vt yarabe'am֙ 'ashshe֣r chata֔ va'ashshe֥r hecheti֖y 'et-yishsera'e֑l bּeka'es֕o 'ashshe֣r hike'i֔ys 'et-yehva֖h 'elohe֥y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)This happened because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he aroused the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel.

עַל־חַטֹּ֤אות יָרָבְעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָטָ֔א וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בְּכַעְס֕וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִכְעִ֔יס אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֛ter dּibere֥y nada֖b vekal-'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֑h halo'-he֣m kּetubi֗ym 'al-se֛per dּibere֥y hayּami֖ym lemaleke֥y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As for the other events of Nadab’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

וְיֶ֛תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י נָדָ֖ב וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה הֲלֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): umilechama֨h hayeta֜h bּe֣yn 'asa֗ ube֛yn bּa'eshsha֥ meֽleke-yishsera'e֖l kּal-yemeyheֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.

וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה הָיְתָ֜ה בֵּ֣ין אָסָ֗א וּבֵ֛ין בַּעְשָׁ֥א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כָּל־יְמֵיהֶֽם׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּishshena֣t shshalo֔shsh le'asa֖ me֣leke yehuda֑h ma֠lake bּa'eshsha֨ ben-'achiyּa֤h 'al-kּal-yishsera'el֙ bּetiretza֔h 'eshseri֥ym ve'arebּa֖ shshanaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned for twenty-four years.

בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שָׁלֹ֔שׁ לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה מָ֠לַךְ בַּעְשָׁ֨א בֶן־אֲחִיָּ֤ה עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּתִרְצָ֔ה עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבַּ֖ע שָׁנָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥'ashs hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h vayּe֨leke֙ bּede֣reke yarabe'a֔m u֨bechatּa't֔o 'ashshe֥r hecheti֖y 'et-yishsera'eֽl׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ יָרָבְעָ֔ם וּ֨בְחַטָּאת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס
