1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֤y debar-yehvah֙ 'el-yeh֣u ben-chana֔niy 'al-bּa'eshsha֖ le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the word of the LORD came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha:

וַיְהִ֤י דְבַר־יְהוָה֙ אֶל־יֵה֣וּא בֶן־חֲנָ֔נִי עַל־בַּעְשָׁ֖א לֵאמֹֽר׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): ya֗'an 'ashshe֤r hariymoti֨yka֙ min-he֣'apa֔r va'etּeneka֣ nagi֔yd 'a֖l 'amּi֣y yishsera'e֑l vatּe֣leke ׀ bּede֣reke yarabe'a֗m vaֽtּachati'֙ 'et-'amּi֣y yishsera'e֔l lehake'iyse֖niy bּechatּo'taֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'I raised you up from the dust and appointed you ruler over my people Israel, but you followed the ways of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin and to arouse my anger by their sins.'

יַ֗עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֲרִימֹתִ֨יךָ֙ מִן־הֶ֣עָפָ֔ר וָאֶתֶּנְךָ֣ נָגִ֔יד עַ֖ל עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַתֵּ֣לֶךְ ׀ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ יָרָבְעָ֗ם וַֽתַּחֲטִא֙ אֶת־עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְהַכְעִיסֵ֖נִי בְּחַטֹּאתָֽם׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): hineni֥y mabe'i֛yr 'achare֥y ba'eshsha֖ ve'achare֣y beyt֑o venaֽtatּiy֙ 'et-bּe֣yteka֔ kּebe֖yt yarabe'a֥m bּen-nebaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'So I am about to wipe out Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat.'

הִנְנִ֥י מַבְעִ֛יר אַחֲרֵ֥י בַעְשָׁ֖א וְאַחֲרֵ֣י בֵית֑וֹ וְנָֽתַתִּי֙ אֶת־בֵּ֣יתְךָ֔ כְּבֵ֖ית יָרָבְעָ֥ם בֶּן־נְבָֽט׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): hamּe֤t leba'eshsha'֙ bּa'i֔yr yoֽ'kel֖u hakּelabi֑ym vehamּe֥t lo֙ bּashsּade֔h yo'kel֖u '֥op hashshּamaֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'Dogs will eat those belonging to Baasha who die in the city, and birds will feed on those who die in the country.'

הַמֵּ֤ת לְבַעְשָׁא֙ בָּעִ֔יר יֹֽאכְל֖וּ הַכְּלָבִ֑ים וְהַמֵּ֥ת לוֹ֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה יֹאכְל֖וּ ע֥וֹף הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֨ter dּibere֥y ba'eshsha֛ va'ashshe֥r 'ashsa֖h ugebֽurat֑o halo'-he֣m kּetubi֗ym 'al-se֛per dּibere֥y hayּami֖ym lemaleke֥y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As for the other events of Baasha’s reign, what he did and his achievements, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י בַעְשָׁ֛א וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה וּגְבֽוּרָת֑וֹ הֲלֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshekּa֤b bּa'eshsha'֙ 'im-'abota֔yv vayּiqּabe֖r bּetiretza֑h vayּimelo֛ke 'ela֥h ben֖o tּachetּaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Baasha rested with his ancestors and was buried in Tirzah. And Elah his son succeeded him as king.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב בַּעְשָׁא֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּתִרְצָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אֵלָ֥ה בְנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vega֡m bּeyad-yeh֨u ben-chana֜niy hanּabi֗y dּebar-yehva֡h hayah֩ 'el-bּa'eshsha֨ ve'el-bּeyt֜o ve'a֥l kּal-hara'a֣h ׀ 'ashsher-'ashsa֣h ׀ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֗h lehake'iyso֙ bּema'ashse֣h yada֔yv lihey֖ot kּebe֣yt yarabe'a֑m ve'a֥l 'ashsher-hikּa֖h 'otֽo׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani to Baasha and his house, because of all the evil he had done in the eyes of the LORD, arousing his anger by the work of his hands and becoming like the house of Jeroboam, and also because he destroyed it.

וְגַ֡ם בְּיַד־יֵה֨וּא בֶן־חֲנָ֜נִי הַנָּבִ֗יא דְּבַר־יְהוָ֡ה הָיָה֩ אֶל־בַּעְשָׁ֨א וְאֶל־בֵּית֜וֹ וְעַ֥ל כָּל־הָרָעָ֣ה ׀ אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֣ה ׀ בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה לְהַכְעִיסוֹ֙ בְּמַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יָדָ֔יו לִהְי֖וֹת כְּבֵ֣ית יָרָבְעָ֑ם וְעַ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־הִכָּ֖ה אֹתֽוֹ׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּishshena֨t 'eshseri֤ym vashsheshsh֙ shshana֔h le'asa֖ me֣leke yehuda֑h ma֠lake 'ela֨h ben-bּa'eshsha֧ 'al-yishsera'e֛l bּetiretza֖h shshenataֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah son of Baasha became king of Israel, and he reigned in Tirzah for two years.

בִּשְׁנַ֨ת עֶשְׂרִ֤ים וָשֵׁשׁ֙ שָׁנָ֔ה לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה מָ֠לַךְ אֵלָ֨ה בֶן־בַּעְשָׁ֧א עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל בְּתִרְצָ֖ה שְׁנָתָֽיִם׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqeshsho֤r 'alayv֙ 'abedּ֣o zimeri֔y shsa֖r machatzi֣yt hara֑keb veh֤u betiretzah֙ shshote֣h shshikּ֔or bּe֣yt 'aretza֔ 'ashshe֥r 'al-habּa֖yit bּetiretzaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Zimri, one of his officials, who had command of half his chariots, conspired against him. Elah was in Tirzah at the time, getting drunk in the home of Arza, the palace administrator at Tirzah.

וַיִּקְשֹׁ֤ר עָלָיו֙ עַבְדּ֣וֹ זִמְרִ֔י שַׂ֖ר מַחֲצִ֣ית הָרָ֑כֶב וְה֤וּא בְתִרְצָה֙ שֹׁתֶ֣ה שִׁכּ֔וֹר בֵּ֣ית אַרְצָ֔א אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־הַבַּ֖יִת בְּתִרְצָֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֤ zimeriy֙ vayּakּe֣hu vayemiyte֔hu bּishshenat֙ 'eshseri֣ym vashshe֔ba le'asa֖ me֣leke yehuda֑h vayּimelo֖ke tּachetּaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Zimri came in, struck him down and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah. Then he succeeded him as king.

וַיָּבֹ֤א זִמְרִי֙ וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ וַיְמִיתֵ֔הוּ בִּשְׁנַת֙ עֶשְׂרִ֣ים וָשֶׁ֔בַע לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֨y bemalek֜o kּeshshibetּ֣o 'al-kּise'֗o hikּah֙ 'et-kּal-bּe֣yt bּa'eshsha֔ loֽ'-hishshe'i֥yr l֖o mashshetּi֣yn bּeqi֑yr vego'ala֖yv vere'eֽhu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As soon as he began to reign and was seated on the throne, he killed off Baasha’s whole family. He did not spare a single male, whether relative or friend.

וַיְהִ֨י בְמָלְכ֜וֹ כְּשִׁבְתּ֣וֹ עַל־כִּסְא֗וֹ הִכָּה֙ אֶת־כָּל־בֵּ֣ית בַּעְשָׁ֔א לֹֽא־הִשְׁאִ֥יר ל֖וֹ מַשְׁתִּ֣ין בְּקִ֑יר וְגֹאֲלָ֖יו וְרֵעֵֽהוּ׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashsheme֣d zimeri֔y 'e֖t kּal-bּe֣yt bּa'eshsha֑ kּideba֤r yehvah֙ 'ashshe֣r dּibּe֣r 'el-bּa'eshsha֔ bּeya֖d yeh֥u hanּabiֽy'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Zimri destroyed the whole family of Baasha, in accordance with the word of the LORD spoken against Baasha through the prophet Jehu,

וַיַּשְׁמֵ֣ד זִמְרִ֔י אֵ֖ת כָּל־בֵּ֣ית בַּעְשָׁ֑א כִּדְבַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֣ר אֶל־בַּעְשָׁ֔א בְּיַ֖ד יֵה֥וּא הַנָּבִֽיא׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): e֚l kּal-chatּo֣'vt bּa'eshsha֔ vechatּo֖'vt 'ela֣h ben֑o 'ashshe֣r chate'֗u va'ashshe֤r hecheti֨y'u֙ 'et-yishsera'e֔l lehake'i֗ys 'et-yehva֛h 'elohe֥y yishsera'e֖l bּehabeleyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)because of all the sins Baasha and his son Elah had committed and had caused Israel to commit, so that they aroused the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, by their worthless idols.

אֶ֚ל כָּל־חַטֹּ֣אות בַּעְשָׁ֔א וְחַטֹּ֖אות אֵלָ֣ה בְנ֑וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָטְא֗וּ וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר הֶחֱטִ֨יאוּ֙ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְהַכְעִ֗יס אֶת־יְהוָ֛ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּהַבְלֵיהֶֽם׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֛ter dּibere֥y 'ela֖h vekal-'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֑h halֽo'-he֣m kּetubi֗ym 'al-se֛per dּibere֥y hayּami֖ym lemaleke֥y yishsera'eֽl׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)As for the other events of Elah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

וְיֶ֛תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י אֵלָ֖ה וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה הֲלֽוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃פ

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּishshenat֩ 'eshseri֨ym vashshe֜ba shshana֗h le'asa'֙ me֣leke yehuda֔h mala֥ke zimeri֛y shshibe'a֥t yami֖ym bּetiretza֑h veha'a֣m choni֔ym 'aֽl-gּibּet֖on 'ashshe֥r lapּelishshetּiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned in Tirzah for seven days. The army was encamped near Gibbethon, a Philistine town.

בִּשְׁנַת֩ עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וָשֶׁ֜בַע שָׁנָ֗ה לְאָסָא֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה מָלַ֥ךְ זִמְרִ֛י שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים בְּתִרְצָ֑ה וְהָעָ֣ם חֹנִ֔ים עַֽל־גִּבְּת֖וֹן אֲשֶׁ֥ר לַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshema֤ ha'am֙ hachoni֣ym le'mo֔r qashsha֣r zimeri֔y vega֖m hikּa֣h 'et-hamּe֑leke vayּameli֣ku kaֽl-yi֠shsera'el 'et-'ameri֨y shsar-tzaba֧ 'al-yishsera'e֛l bּayּ֥om hah֖u bּaֽmּachaneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the Israelites in the camp heard that Zimri had conspired against the king and murdered him, they proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that very day there in the camp.

וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע הָעָם֙ הַחֹנִ֣ים לֵאמֹ֔ר קָשַׁ֣ר זִמְרִ֔י וְגַ֖ם הִכָּ֣ה אֶת־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיַּמְלִ֣כוּ כָֽל־יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל אֶת־עָמְרִ֨י שַׂר־צָבָ֧א עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא בַּֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'ale֥h 'ameri֛y vekal-yishsera'e֥l 'imּ֖o miֽgּibּet֑on vayּatzu֖ru 'al-tּiretzaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Omri and all the Israelites with him withdrew from Gibbethon and laid siege to Tirzah.

וַיַּעֲלֶ֥ה עָמְרִ֛י וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל עִמּ֖וֹ מִֽגִּבְּת֑וֹן וַיָּצֻ֖רוּ עַל־תִּרְצָֽה׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֞y kּire'֤ot zimeriy֙ kּiֽy-nilekּeda֣h ha'i֔yr vayּabo֖ 'el-'arem֣on bּeyt-hamּe֑leke vayּishsero֨p 'ala֧yv 'et-bּeֽyt-me֛leke bּa'e֖shsh vayּamoֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Zimri saw that the city was taken, he went into the citadel of the royal palace and set the palace on fire around him. So he died,

וַיְהִ֞י כִּרְא֤וֹת זִמְרִי֙ כִּֽי־נִלְכְּדָ֣ה הָעִ֔יר וַיָּבֹ֖א אֶל־אַרְמ֣וֹן בֵּית־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיִּשְׂרֹ֨ף עָלָ֧יו אֶת־בֵּֽית־מֶ֛לֶךְ בָּאֵ֖שׁ וַיָּמֹֽת׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): al-cht'tv chatּo'tayv֙ 'ashshe֣r chata֔ la'ashs֥ot hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h lale֨ket֙ bּede֣reke yarabe'a֔m ubechatּa'to֙ 'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֔h lehachati֖y 'et-yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)because of the sins he had committed, doing evil in the eyes of the LORD and following the ways of Jeroboam and the sin he had committed and had caused Israel to commit.

עַל־חטאתו חַטֹּאתָיו֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָטָ֔א לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה לָלֶ֨כֶת֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ יָרָבְעָ֔ם וּבְחַטָּאתוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה לְהַחֲטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֨ter֙ dּibere֣y zimeri֔y veqishsher֖o 'ashshe֣r qashsha֑r haloֽ'-he֣m kּetubi֗ym 'al-se֛per dּibere֥y hayּami֖ym lemaleke֥y yishsera'eֽl׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)As for the other events of Zimri’s reign, and the conspiracy he led, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

וְיֶ֨תֶר֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י זִמְרִ֔י וְקִשְׁר֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר קָשָׁ֑ר הֲלֹֽא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃פ

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֧z yechale֛q ha'a֥m yishsera'e֖l lache֑tziy chatzi֨y ha'a֜m ha֠yah 'achare֨y tibeni֤y ben-gּiynat֙ lehameliyk֔o vehachatzi֖y 'achare֥y 'ameriֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the people of Israel were split into two factions; half supported Tibni son of Ginath for king, and the other half supported Omri.

אָ֧ז יֵחָלֵ֛ק הָעָ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לַחֵ֑צִי חֲצִ֨י הָעָ֜ם הָ֠יָה אַחֲרֵ֨י תִבְנִ֤י בֶן־גִּינַת֙ לְהַמְלִיכ֔וֹ וְהַחֲצִ֖י אַחֲרֵ֥י עָמְרִֽי׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּecheza֤q ha'am֙ 'ashshe֣r 'achare֣y 'ameri֔y 'et-ha'a֕m 'ashshe֥r 'achare֖y tּibeni֣y ben-gּiyna֑t vayּa֣mat tּibeni֔y vayּimelo֖ke 'ameriֽy׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)But Omri’s followers proved stronger than those of Tibni son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri became king.

וַיֶּחֱזַ֤ק הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אַחֲרֵ֣י עָמְרִ֔י אֶת־הָעָ֕ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַחֲרֵ֖י תִּבְנִ֣י בֶן־גִּינַ֑ת וַיָּ֣מָת תִּבְנִ֔י וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ עָמְרִֽי׃פ

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּishshenat֩ shsheloshshi֨ym ve'acha֜t shshana֗h le'asa'֙ me֣leke yehuda֔h mala֤ke 'ameriy֙ 'al-yishsera'e֔l shshetּe֥ym 'eshsere֖h shshana֑h bּetiretza֖h mala֥ke shsheshsh-shshaniֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned for twelve years, six of them in Tirzah.

בִּשְׁנַת֩ שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים וְאַחַ֜ת שָׁנָ֗ה לְאָסָא֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה מָלַ֤ךְ עָמְרִי֙ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שְׁתֵּ֥ים עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה שָׁנָ֑ה בְּתִרְצָ֖ה מָלַ֥ךְ שֵׁשׁ־שָׁנִֽים׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֜qen 'et-haha֥r shshomer֛on me֥'et shshe֖mer bּekikּera֣yim kּa֑sep vayּi֨ben֙ 'et-haha֔r vayּiqera֗ 'et-shshe֤m ha'iyr֙ 'ashshe֣r bּana֔h 'a֣l shshem-shshe֔mer 'adone֖y haha֥r shshomerֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver and built a city on the hill, calling it Samaria, after Shemer, the name of the former owner of the hill.

וַיִּ֜קֶן אֶת־הָהָ֥ר שֹׁמְר֛וֹן מֵ֥אֶת שֶׁ֖מֶר בְּכִכְּרַ֣יִם כָּ֑סֶף וַיִּ֨בֶן֙ אֶת־הָהָ֔ר וַיִּקְרָ֗א אֶת־שֵׁ֤ם הָעִיר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנָ֔ה עַ֣ל שֶׁם־שֶׁ֔מֶר אֲדֹנֵ֖י הָהָ֥ר שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'ashse֥h 'ameri֛y hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h vayּa֕ra mikּo֖l 'ashshe֥r lepanaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But Omri did evil in the eyes of the LORD and sinned more than all those before him.

וַיַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה עָמְרִ֛י הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיָּ֕רַע מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְפָנָֽיו׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֗leke bּekal-dּe֨reke֙ yarabe'a֣m bּen-neba֔t vbcht'tyv ubechatּa't֔o 'ashshe֥r hecheti֖y 'et-yishsera'e֑l lehake'i֗ys 'et-yehva֛h 'elohe֥y yishsera'e֖l bּehabeleyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He followed completely the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the sin he had committed and had caused Israel to commit, so that they aroused the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, by their worthless idols.

וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ בְּכָל־דֶּ֨רֶךְ֙ יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־נְבָ֔ט ובחטאתיו וּבְחַטָּאת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְהַכְעִ֗יס אֶת־יְהוָ֛ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּהַבְלֵיהֶֽם׃

27

Edified Edition (EDE)As for the other events of Omri’s reign, what he did and the things he achieved, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֤י עָמְרִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה וּגְבוּרָת֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה הֲלֹֽא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshekּa֤b 'ameriy֙ 'im-'abota֔yv vayּiqּabe֖r bּeshshomer֑on vayּimelo֛ke 'ache'a֥b bּen֖o tּachetּaֽyv׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Omri rested with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria. And Ahab his son succeeded him as king.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב עָמְרִי֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּשֹׁמְר֑וֹן וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אַחְאָ֥ב בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ache'a֣b bּen-'ameri֗y malake֙ 'al-yishsera'e֔l bּishshena֨t shsheloshshi֤ym ushshemoneh֙ shshana֔h le'asa֖ me֣leke yehuda֑h va֠yּimeloke 'ache'a֨b bּen-'ameri֤y 'al-yishsera'el֙ bּeshsho֣mer֔on 'eshseri֥ym ushshetּa֖yim shshanaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria over Israel for twenty-two years.

וְאַחְאָ֣ב בֶּן־עָמְרִ֗י מָלַךְ֙ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּשְׁנַ֨ת שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים וּשְׁמֹנֶה֙ שָׁנָ֔ה לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַ֠יִּמְלֹךְ אַחְאָ֨ב בֶּן־עָמְרִ֤י עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁתַּ֖יִם שָׁנָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨'ashs 'ache'a֧b bּen-'ameri֛y hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h mikּo֖l 'ashshe֥r lepanaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the LORD than any of those before him.

וַיַּ֨עַשׂ אַחְאָ֧ב בֶּן־עָמְרִ֛י הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְפָנָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehiy֙ hanaqe֣l leketּ֔o bּechatּo֖'vt yarabe'a֣m bּen-neba֑t vayּiqּa֨ch 'ishshּa֜h 'et-'iyze֗bel bּat-'etebּa֨'al֙ me֣leke tziydoni֔ym vayּe֨leke֙ vaֽyּa'abo֣d 'et-habּa֔'al vayּishshetּa֖chu lֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him.

וַיְהִי֙ הֲנָקֵ֣ל לֶכְתּ֔וֹ בְּחַטֹּ֖אות יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־נְבָ֑ט וַיִּקַּ֨ח אִשָּׁ֜ה אֶת־אִיזֶ֗בֶל בַּת־אֶתְבַּ֨עַל֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ צִידֹנִ֔ים וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֣ד אֶת־הַבַּ֔עַל וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ לֽוֹ׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥qem mizebּe֖cha labּa֑'al bּe֣yt habּa֔'al 'ashshe֥r bּana֖h bּeshshomerֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria.

וַיָּ֥קֶם מִזְבֵּ֖חַ לַבָּ֑עַל בֵּ֣ית הַבַּ֔עַל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנָ֖ה בְּשֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃

33
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥'ashs 'ache'a֖b 'et-ha'ashshera֑h vayּ֨osep 'ache'a֜b la'ashs֗ot lehake'iys֙ 'et-yehovah֙ 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֔l mikּo֨l maleke֣y yishsera'e֔l 'ashshe֥r hay֖u lepanaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Ahab also made an Asherah pole and did more to arouse the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, than did all the kings of Israel before him.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ אַחְאָ֖ב אֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרָ֑ה וַיּ֨וֹסֶף אַחְאָ֜ב לַעֲשׂ֗וֹת לְהַכְעִיס֙ אֶת־יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִכֹּ֨ל מַלְכֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָי֖וּ לְפָנָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeyama֞yv bּana֥h chiy'e֛l bּe֥yt ha'eli֖y 'et-yeriycho֑h bּa'abiyra֨m bּekor֜o yisּeda֗hּ vbshgyb ubishseg֤ub tze'iyro֙ hitzּi֣yb dּelate֔yha kּideba֣r yehva֔h 'ashshe֣r dּibּe֔r bּeya֖d yehoshshu֥'a bּin-nֽun׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)In Ahab’s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho. He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the LORD spoken by Joshua son of Nun.

בְּיָמָ֞יו בָּנָ֥ה חִיאֵ֛ל בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלִ֖י אֶת־יְרִיחֹ֑ה בַּאֲבִירָ֨ם בְּכֹר֜וֹ יִסְּדָ֗הּ ובשגיב וּבִשְׂג֤וּב צְעִירוֹ֙ הִצִּ֣יב דְּלָתֶ֔יהָ כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֔ר בְּיַ֖ד יְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַ בִּן־נֽוּן׃ס
