Chapter 6

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y bishshemoni֣ym shshana֣h ve'arebּa֣ me'֣ot shshana֡h letze֣'t bּeneֽy-yishsera'e֣l me'eֽretz-mitzerayim֩ bּashshּana֨h harebiy'i֜yt bּecho֣deshsh zi֗v h֚u hacho֣deshsh hashshּeni֔y limelo֥ke shshelomo֖h 'al-yishsera'e֑l vayּi֥ben habּa֖yit layhvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv [1], the second month, he began to build the temple of the LORD.

וַיְהִ֣י בִשְׁמוֹנִ֣ים שָׁנָ֣ה וְאַרְבַּ֣ע מֵא֣וֹת שָׁנָ֡ה לְצֵ֣את בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל מֵאֶֽרֶץ־מִצְרַיִם֩ בַּשָּׁנָ֨ה הָרְבִיעִ֜ית בְּחֹ֣דֶשׁ זִ֗ו ה֚וּא הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י לִמְלֹ֥ךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּ֥בֶן הַבַּ֖יִת לַיהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehabּa֗yit 'ashshe֨r bּana֜h hamּe֤leke shshelomoh֙ laֽyhva֔h shshishshּiֽym-'amּa֥h 'arekּ֖o ve'eshseri֤ym rachebּ֑o ushsheloshshi֥ym 'amּa֖h qomatֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high.

וְהַבַּ֗יִת אֲשֶׁ֨ר בָּנָ֜ה הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה שִׁשִּֽׁים־אַמָּ֥ה אָרְכּ֖וֹ וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים רָחְבּ֑וֹ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אַמָּ֖ה קוֹמָתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'ula֗m 'al-pּeney֙ heyka֣l habּa֔yit 'eshseri֣ym 'amּah֙ 'arekּ֔o 'al-pּene֖y ro֣chab habּa֑yit 'e֧shser bּa'amּa֛h rachebּ֖o 'al-pּene֥y habּaֽyit׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is, twenty cubits, and projected ten cubits from the front of the temple.

וְהָאוּלָ֗ם עַל־פְּנֵי֙ הֵיכַ֣ל הַבַּ֔יִת עֶשְׂרִ֣ים אַמָּה֙ אָרְכּ֔וֹ עַל־פְּנֵ֖י רֹ֣חַב הַבָּ֑יִת עֶ֧שֶׂר בָּאַמָּ֛ה רָחְבּ֖וֹ עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַבָּֽיִת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣'ashs labּa֔yit chalּone֖y shshequpi֥ym 'atumiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He made narrow windows high up in the temple walls.

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ לַבָּ֔יִת חַלּוֹנֵ֖י שְׁקֻפִ֥ים אֲטֻמִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiben֩ 'al-qi֨yr habּa֤yit ytzv yatzi֨y'a֙ sabi֔yb 'et-qiyr֤ot habּa֨yit֙ sabi֔yb laֽheyka֖l veladּebi֑yr vayּa֥'ashs tzela'֖ot sabiֽyb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms.

וַיִּבֶן֩ עַל־קִ֨יר הַבַּ֤יִת יצוע יָצִ֨יעַ֙ סָבִ֔יב אֶת־קִיר֤וֹת הַבַּ֨יִת֙ סָבִ֔יב לַֽהֵיכָ֖ל וְלַדְּבִ֑יר וַיַּ֥עַשׂ צְלָע֖וֹת סָבִֽיב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hytzv hayּatzi֨y'a hatּachetּona֜h chame֧shsh bּa'amּa֣h rachebּa֗hּ vehatּiֽykonah֙ shshe֤shsh bּaֽ'amּah֙ rachebּa֔hּ veha֨shshּeliyshshi֔yt shshe֥ba bּa'amּa֖h rachebּa֑hּ kּi֡y migera'ot֩ nata֨n labּa֤yit sabiyb֙ ch֔utzah lebiletּi֖y 'acho֥z bּeqiֽyrot-habּaֽyit׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The lowest floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits and the third floor seven. He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple wall so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.

היצוע הַיָּצִ֨יעַ הַתַּחְתֹּנָ֜ה חָמֵ֧שׁ בָּאַמָּ֣ה רָחְבָּ֗הּ וְהַתִּֽיכֹנָה֙ שֵׁ֤שׁ בָּֽאַמָּה֙ רָחְבָּ֔הּ וְהַ֨שְּׁלִישִׁ֔ית שֶׁ֥בַע בָּאַמָּ֖ה רָחְבָּ֑הּ כִּ֡י מִגְרָעוֹת֩ נָתַ֨ן לַבַּ֤יִת סָבִיב֙ ח֔וּצָה לְבִלְתִּ֖י אֲחֹ֥ז בְּקִֽירוֹת־הַבָּֽיִת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehabּa֨yit֙ bּehibּa֣not֔o 'eֽben-shshelema֥h masּa֖ nibena֑h umaqּab֤ot vehagּarezen֙ kּal-kּeli֣y bareze֔l loֽ'-nishshema֥ bּabּa֖yit bּehibּanotֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, axe or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.

וְהַבַּ֨יִת֙ בְּהִבָּ֣נֹת֔וֹ אֶֽבֶן־שְׁלֵמָ֥ה מַסָּ֖ע נִבְנָ֑ה וּמַקָּב֤וֹת וְהַגַּרְזֶן֙ כָּל־כְּלִ֣י בַרְזֶ֔ל לֹֽא־נִשְׁמַ֥ע בַּבַּ֖יִת בְּהִבָּנֹתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): pּe֗tach hatzּela'֙ hatּi֣ykona֔h 'el-kּe֥tep habּa֖yit hayemani֑yt ubelulּi֗ym yaֽ'alu֙ 'al-hatּi֣ykona֔h umin-hatּiֽykona֖h 'el-hashshּelishshiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The entrance to the lowest floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third.

פֶּ֗תַח הַצֵּלָע֙ הַתִּ֣יכֹנָ֔ה אֶל־כֶּ֥תֶף הַבַּ֖יִת הַיְמָנִ֑ית וּבְלוּלִּ֗ים יַֽעֲלוּ֙ עַל־הַתִּ֣יכֹנָ֔ה וּמִן־הַתִּֽיכֹנָ֖ה אֶל־הַשְּׁלִשִֽׁים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֥ben 'et-habּa֖yit vayekalּe֑hu vayּisepּo֤n 'et-habּa֨yit֙ gּebi֔ym ushsedero֖t bּa'araziֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks.

וַיִּ֥בֶן אֶת־הַבַּ֖יִת וַיְכַלֵּ֑הוּ וַיִּסְפֹּ֤ן אֶת־הַבַּ֨יִת֙ גֵּבִ֔ים וּשְׂדֵרֹ֖ת בָּאֲרָזִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֤ben 'et-hytzv hayּatzi֨y'a֙ 'al-kּal-habּa֔yit chame֥shsh 'amּ֖ot qֽomat֑o vayּe'echo֥z 'et-habּa֖yit bּa'atze֥y 'araziֽym׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar.

וַיִּ֤בֶן אֶת־היצוע הַיָּצִ֨יעַ֙ עַל־כָּל־הַבַּ֔יִת חָמֵ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת קֽוֹמָת֑וֹ וַיֶּאֱחֹ֥ז אֶת־הַבַּ֖יִת בַּעֲצֵ֥י אֲרָזִֽים׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy֙ dּebar-yehva֔h 'el-shshelomo֖h le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The word of the LORD came to Solomon:

וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): habּa֨yit hazּe֜h 'ashsher-'atּa֣h bone֗h 'im-tּele֤ke bּechuqּotay֙ ve'et-mishshepּata֣y tּaֽ'ashse֔h veshshamaretּa֥ 'et-kּal-mitzevota֖y lale֣ket bּahe֑m vahaqimoti֤y 'et-dּebariy֙ 'itּa֔ke 'ashshe֥r dּibּa֖retּiy 'el-dּavi֥d 'abiֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)'As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfil through you the promise I gave to David your father.'

הַבַּ֨יִת הַזֶּ֜ה אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֣ה בֹנֶ֗ה אִם־תֵּלֵ֤ךְ בְּחֻקֹּתַי֙ וְאֶת־מִשְׁפָּטַ֣י תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֥ אֶת־כָּל־מִצְוֺתַ֖י לָלֶ֣כֶת בָּהֶ֑ם וַהֲקִמֹתִ֤י אֶת־דְּבָרִי֙ אִתָּ֔ךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי אֶל־דָּוִ֥ד אָבִֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsha֣kanetּi֔y bּet֖oke bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l velo֥ 'e'ezo֖b 'et-'amּi֥y yishsera'eֽl׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)'And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel.'

וְשָׁ֣כַנְתִּ֔י בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֹ֥א אֶעֱזֹ֖ב אֶת־עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֧ben shshelomo֛h 'et-habּa֖yit vayekalּeֽhu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So Solomon built the temple and completed it.

וַיִּ֧בֶן שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה אֶת־הַבַּ֖יִת וַיְכַלֵּֽהוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiben֩ 'et-qiyr֨ot habּa֤yit mibּa֨yetah֙ bּetzale'֣ot 'arazi֔ym miqּareqa֤ habּa֨yit֙ 'ad-qiyr֣ot hasּipּu֔n tzipּa֥h 'e֖tz mibּa֑yit vayetza֛p 'et-qareqa֥ habּa֖yit bּetzale'֥ot bּeroshshiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, panelling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper.

וַיִּבֶן֩ אֶת־קִיר֨וֹת הַבַּ֤יִת מִבַּ֨יְתָה֙ בְּצַלְע֣וֹת אֲרָזִ֔ים מִקַּרְקַ֤ע הַבַּ֨יִת֙ עַד־קִיר֣וֹת הַסִּפֻּ֔ן צִפָּ֥ה עֵ֖ץ מִבָּ֑יִת וַיְצַ֛ף אֶת־קַרְקַ֥ע הַבַּ֖יִת בְּצַלְע֥וֹת בְּרוֹשִֽׁים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiben֩ 'et-'eshseri֨ym 'amּa֜h myrkvty miֽyּarekּete֤y habּa֨yit֙ bּetzale'֣ot 'arazi֔ym min-haqּareqa֖ 'ad-haqּiyr֑ot vayּi֤ben lo֙ mibּa֣yit lidebi֔yr leqo֖deshsh haqּodashshiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.

וַיִּבֶן֩ אֶת־עֶשְׂרִ֨ים אַמָּ֜ה מירכותי מִֽיַּרְכְּתֵ֤י הַבַּ֨יִת֙ בְּצַלְע֣וֹת אֲרָזִ֔ים מִן־הַקַּרְקַ֖ע עַד־הַקִּיר֑וֹת וַיִּ֤בֶן לוֹ֙ מִבַּ֣יִת לִדְבִ֔יר לְקֹ֖דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'arebּa'i֥ym bּa'amּa֖h haya֣h habּa֑yit h֖u haheyka֥l lipenaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long.

וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים בָּאַמָּ֖ה הָיָ֣ה הַבָּ֑יִת ה֖וּא הַהֵיכָ֥ל לִפְנָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֤rez 'el-habּa֨yit֙ pּeni֔ymah miqela֣'at pּeqa'i֔ym upeture֖y tzitzּi֑ym hakּo֣l 'e֔rez 'e֥yn 'e֖ben nire'aֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.

וְאֶ֤רֶז אֶל־הַבַּ֨יִת֙ פְּנִ֔ימָה מִקְלַ֣עַת פְּקָעִ֔ים וּפְטוּרֵ֖י צִצִּ֑ים הַכֹּ֣ל אֶ֔רֶז אֵ֥ין אֶ֖בֶן נִרְאָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): udebi֧yr bּetoke-habּa֛yit mipּeni֖ymah heki֑yn letitּe֣n shsha֔m 'et-'ar֖on bּeri֥yt yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there.

וּדְבִ֧יר בְּתוֹךְ־הַבַּ֛יִת מִפְּנִ֖ימָה הֵכִ֑ין לְתִתֵּ֣ן שָׁ֔ם אֶת־אֲר֖וֹן בְּרִ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velipene֣y hadּebi֡yr 'eshseriym֩ 'amּa֨h 'o֜reke ve'eshseri֧ym 'amּa֣h ro֗chab ve'eshseri֤ym 'amּah֙ qֽomat֔o vayetzapּe֖hu zaha֣b sag֑ur vayetza֥p mizebּe֖cha 'aֽrez׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar.

וְלִפְנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֡יר עֶשְׂרִים֩ אַמָּ֨ה אֹ֜רֶךְ וְעֶשְׂרִ֧ים אַמָּ֣ה רֹ֗חַב וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים אַמָּה֙ קֽוֹמָת֔וֹ וַיְצַפֵּ֖הוּ זָהָ֣ב סָג֑וּר וַיְצַ֥ף מִזְבֵּ֖חַ אָֽרֶז׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetza֨p shshelomo֧h 'et-habּa֛yit mipּeni֖ymah zaha֣b sag֑ur vaye'abּe֞r brtyqvt bּeratּuq֤ot zahab֙ lipene֣y hadּebi֔yr vayetzapּe֖hu zahaֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold.

וַיְצַ֨ף שְׁלֹמֹ֧ה אֶת־הַבַּ֛יִת מִפְּנִ֖ימָה זָהָ֣ב סָג֑וּר וַיְעַבֵּ֞ר ברתיקות בְּרַתּוּק֤וֹת זָהָב֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֔יר וַיְצַפֵּ֖הוּ זָהָֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-kּal-habּa֛yit tzipּa֥h zaha֖b 'ad-tּo֣m kּal-habּa֑yit vekal-hamּizebּe֥cha 'aֽshsher-ladּebi֖yr tzipּa֥h zahaֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So he overlaid the whole interior with gold, until everything was finished. He also overlaid with gold the entire altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.

וְאֶת־כָּל־הַבַּ֛יִת צִפָּ֥ה זָהָ֖ב עַד־תֹּ֣ם כָּל־הַבָּ֑יִת וְכָל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֥חַ אֲֽשֶׁר־לַדְּבִ֖יר צִפָּ֥ה זָהָֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣'ashs bּadּebi֔yr shshene֥y kerubi֖ym 'atzey-shsha֑men 'e֥shser 'amּ֖ot qomatֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim out of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ בַּדְּבִ֔יר שְׁנֵ֥י כְרוּבִ֖ים עֲצֵי־שָׁ֑מֶן עֶ֥שֶׂר אַמּ֖וֹת קוֹמָתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vechame֣shsh 'amּ֗ot kּena֤p hakּerub֙ haֽ'echa֔t vechame֣shsh 'amּ֔ot kּena֥p hakּer֖ub hashshּeni֑yt 'e֣shser 'amּ֔ot miqetz֥ot kּenapa֖yv ve'ad-qetz֥ot kּenapaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The wings of one cherub were five cubits each; the distance between the tips of its wings was ten cubits.

וְחָמֵ֣שׁ אַמּ֗וֹת כְּנַ֤ף הַכְּרוּב֙ הָֽאֶחָ֔ת וְחָמֵ֣שׁ אַמּ֔וֹת כְּנַ֥ף הַכְּר֖וּב הַשֵּׁנִ֑ית עֶ֣שֶׂר אַמּ֔וֹת מִקְצ֥וֹת כְּנָפָ֖יו וְעַד־קְצ֥וֹת כְּנָפָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֨shser֙ bּaֽ'amּa֔h hakּer֖ub hashshּeni֑y midּa֥h 'acha֛t veqe֥tzeb 'echa֖d lishshene֥y hakּerubiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The second cherub also measured ten cubits; both cherubs were identical in size and shape.

וְעֶ֨שֶׂר֙ בָּֽאַמָּ֔ה הַכְּר֖וּב הַשֵּׁנִ֑י מִדָּ֥ה אַחַ֛ת וְקֶ֥צֶב אֶחָ֖ד לִשְׁנֵ֥י הַכְּרֻבִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): qomat֙ hakּer֣ub haֽ'echa֔d 'e֖shser bּaֽ'amּa֑h veke֖n hakּer֥ub hashshּeniֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The height of each cherub was ten cubits.

קוֹמַת֙ הַכְּר֣וּב הָֽאֶחָ֔ד עֶ֖שֶׂר בָּֽאַמָּ֑ה וְכֵ֖ן הַכְּר֥וּב הַשֵּׁנִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּe֨n 'et-hakּerubi֜ym bּet֣oke ׀ habּa֣yit hapּeniymi֗y vaֽyּipereshsu֮ 'et-kּanepe֣y hakּerubiym֒ vatּigּa֤ kּenap-haֽ'echad֙ bּaqּi֔yr ukenap֙ hakּer֣ub hashshּeni֔y noga֖'at bּaqּi֣yr hashshּeni֑y vekanepeyhem֙ 'el-tּ֣oke habּa֔yit noge'o֖t kּana֥p 'el-kּanaֽp׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן אֶת־הַכְּרוּבִ֜ים בְּת֣וֹךְ ׀ הַבַּ֣יִת הַפְּנִימִ֗י וַֽיִּפְרְשׂוּ֮ אֶת־כַּנְפֵ֣י הַכְּרֻבִים֒ וַתִּגַּ֤ע כְּנַף־הָֽאֶחָד֙ בַּקִּ֔יר וּכְנַף֙ הַכְּר֣וּב הַשֵּׁנִ֔י נֹגַ֖עַת בַּקִּ֣יר הַשֵּׁנִ֑י וְכַנְפֵיהֶם֙ אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הַבַּ֔יִת נֹגְעֹ֖ת כָּנָ֥ף אֶל־כָּנָֽף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetza֥p 'et-hakּerubi֖ym zahaֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He overlaid the cherubim with gold.

וַיְצַ֥ף אֶת־הַכְּרוּבִ֖ים זָהָֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et֩ kּal-qiyr֨ot habּa֜yit mesa֣b ׀ qala֗ pּitּuchey֙ miqele'ot֙ kּerubi֣ym vetiֽmoro֔t upeture֖y tzitzּi֑ym milּipeni֖ym velachiytzֽon׃

Edified Edition (EDE)On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers.

וְאֵת֩ כָּל־קִיר֨וֹת הַבַּ֜יִת מֵסַ֣ב ׀ קָלַ֗ע פִּתּוּחֵי֙ מִקְלְעוֹת֙ כְּרוּבִ֣ים וְתִֽמֹרֹ֔ת וּפְטוּרֵ֖י צִצִּ֑ים מִלִּפְנִ֖ים וְלַחִיצֽוֹן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-qareqa֥ habּa֖yit tzipּa֣h zaha֑b lipeni֖ymah velachiytzֽon׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.

וְאֶת־קַרְקַ֥ע הַבַּ֖יִת צִפָּ֣ה זָהָ֑ב לִפְנִ֖ימָה וְלַחִיצֽוֹן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et֙ pּe֣tach hadּebi֔yr 'ashsa֖h dּalet֣ot 'atzey-shsha֑men ha'a֥yil mezuz֖ot chamishshiֽyt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors out of olive wood, with five-sided jambs.

וְאֵת֙ פֶּ֣תַח הַדְּבִ֔יר עָשָׂ֖ה דַּלְת֣וֹת עֲצֵי־שָׁ֑מֶן הָאַ֥יִל מְזוּז֖וֹת חֲמִשִֽׁית׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ushshetּey֮ dּalet֣ot 'atzey-shshemen֒ veqala֣ 'a֠leyhem miqele'֨ot kּerubi֧ym vetimor֛ot upeture֥y tzitzּi֖ym vetzipּa֣h zaha֑b vayּa֛red 'al-hakּerubi֥ym ve'al-hatּiֽmor֖ot 'et-hazּahaֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And on the two olive wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold.

וּשְׁתֵּי֮ דַּלְת֣וֹת עֲצֵי־שֶׁמֶן֒ וְקָלַ֣ע עֲ֠לֵיהֶם מִקְלְע֨וֹת כְּרוּבִ֧ים וְתִמֹר֛וֹת וּפְטוּרֵ֥י צִצִּ֖ים וְצִפָּ֣ה זָהָ֑ב וַיָּ֛רֶד עַל־הַכְּרוּבִ֥ים וְעַל־הַתִּֽמֹר֖וֹת אֶת־הַזָּהָֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veke֥n 'ashsa֛h lepe֥tach haֽheyka֖l mezuz֣ot 'atzey-shsha֑men me'e֖t rebi'iֽyt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In the same way, for the entrance to the main hall he made four-sided jambs of olive wood.

וְכֵ֥ן עָשָׂ֛ה לְפֶ֥תַח הַֽהֵיכָ֖ל מְזוּז֣וֹת עֲצֵי־שָׁ֑מֶן מֵאֵ֖ת רְבִעִֽית׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ushshetּe֥y dalet֖ot 'atze֣y beroshshi֑ym shshene֨y tzela'i֜ym hadּe֤let haֽ'achat֙ gּeliyli֔ym ushshene֧y qela'i֛ym hadּe֥let hashshּeni֖yt gּeliyliֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He also made two doors out of juniper wood, each having two leaves that turned in sockets.

וּשְׁתֵּ֥י דַלְת֖וֹת עֲצֵ֣י בְרוֹשִׁ֑ים שְׁנֵ֨י צְלָעִ֜ים הַדֶּ֤לֶת הָֽאַחַת֙ גְּלִילִ֔ים וּשְׁנֵ֧י קְלָעִ֛ים הַדֶּ֥לֶת הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית גְּלִילִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veqala֤ kּerubiym֙ veti֣mor֔ot upeture֖y tzitzּi֑ym vetzipּa֣h zaha֔b meyushshּa֖r 'al-hamּechuqּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.

וְקָלַ֤ע כְּרוּבִים֙ וְתִ֣מֹר֔וֹת וּפְטֻרֵ֖י צִצִּ֑ים וְצִפָּ֣ה זָהָ֔ב מְיֻשָּׁ֖ר עַל־הַמְּחֻקֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֨ben֙ 'et-hechatze֣r hapּeniymi֔yt shsheloshsha֖h ture֣y gazi֑yt vet֖ur kּeruto֥t 'araziֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he built the inner courtyard of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.

וַיִּ֨בֶן֙ אֶת־הֶחָצֵ֣ר הַפְּנִימִ֔ית שְׁלֹשָׁ֖ה טוּרֵ֣י גָזִ֑ית וְט֖וּר כְּרֻתֹ֥ת אֲרָזִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּashshּanah֙ haֽrebiy'i֔yt yusּa֖d bּe֣yt yehva֑h bּeye֖rach ziֽv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv.

בַּשָּׁנָה֙ הָֽרְבִיעִ֔ית יֻסַּ֖ד בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה בְּיֶ֖רַח זִֽו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubashshּanah֩ ha'acha֨t 'eshsere֜h bּeye֣rach bּ֗ul h֚u hacho֣deshsh hashshּemiyni֔y kּala֣h habּa֔yit lekal-dּebara֖yv ulekal-mshptv mishshepּata֑yv vayּibene֖hu shshe֥ba shshaniֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In the eleventh year in the month of Bul [2], the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.

וּבַשָּׁנָה֩ הָאַחַ֨ת עֶשְׂרֵ֜ה בְּיֶ֣רַח בּ֗וּל ה֚וּא הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י כָּלָ֣ה הַבַּ֔יִת לְכָל־דְּבָרָ֖יו וּלְכָל־משפטו מִשְׁפָּטָ֑יו וַיִּבְנֵ֖הוּ שֶׁ֥בַע שָׁנִֽים׃
