Chapter 27

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּen-'eshseri֨ym vechame֤shsh shshanah֙ yota֣m bּemalek֔o veshsheshsh-'eshsere֣h shshana֔h mala֖ke bּiֽyrushshala֑im veshshe֣m 'imּ֔o yerushsha֖h bּat-tzadֽoq׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok.

בֶּן־עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְחָמֵ֤שׁ שָׁנָה֙ יוֹתָ֣ם בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ וְשֵׁשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּֽירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ יְרוּשָׁ֖ה בַּת־צָדֽוֹק׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨'ashs hayּashsha֜r bּe'eyne֣y yehva֗h kּeko֤l 'ashsher-'ashsah֙ 'uzּiyּa֣hu 'abi֔yv ra֕q lo'-ba֖ 'el-heyka֣l yehva֑h ve'֥od ha'a֖m mashshechiytiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Uzziah did; however he did not enter the temple of the LORD. But the people still acted corruptly.

וַיַּ֨עַשׂ הַיָּשָׁ֜ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה כְּכֹ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה֙ עֻזִּיָּ֣הוּ אָבִ֔יו רַ֕ק לֹא־בָ֖א אֶל־הֵיכַ֣ל יְהוָ֑ה וְע֥וֹד הָעָ֖ם מַשְׁחִיתִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֗u bּana֛h 'et-shsha֥'ar bּeyt-yehva֖h ha'eley֑on ubechoma֥t ha'o֛pel bּana֖h laroֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He built the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD, and he built extensively on the wall of Ophel.

ה֗וּא בָּנָ֛ה אֶת־שַׁ֥עַר בֵּית־יְהוָ֖ה הָעֶלְי֑וֹן וּבְחוֹמַ֥ת הָעֹ֛פֶל בָּנָ֖ה לָרֹֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ari֥ym bּana֖h bּehar-yehuda֑h ubechorashshi֣ym bּana֔h bּiֽyraniyּ֖ot umigedּaliֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built fortresses and towers.

וְעָרִ֥ים בָּנָ֖ה בְּהַר־יְהוּדָ֑ה וּבֶחֳרָשִׁ֣ים בָּנָ֔ה בִּֽירָנִיּ֖וֹת וּמִגְדָּלִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve֠hu nilecha֞m 'im-me֣leke bּeney-'amּon֮ vayּecheza֣q 'aleyhem֒ vayּitּenu-l֨o beneֽy-'amּ֜on bּashshּana֣h hahi֗y me'ah֙ kּikּar-kּe֔sep va'ashse֨ret 'alapi֤ym kּoriym֙ chitּi֔ym ushse'ori֖ym 'ashse֣ret 'alapi֑ym zo֗'t heshshi֤ybu lo֙ bּene֣y 'amּ֔on s ubashshּana֥h hashshּeni֖yt vehashshּelishshiֽyt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He also fought with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him in that year one hundred talents of silver, ten thousand kors of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. The children of Ammon paid this to him in the second and third years also.

וְ֠הוּא נִלְחַ֞ם עִם־מֶ֣לֶךְ בְּנֵי־עַמּוֹן֮ וַיֶּחֱזַ֣ק עֲלֵיהֶם֒ וַיִּתְּנוּ־ל֨וֹ בְנֵֽי־עַמּ֜וֹן בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הַהִ֗יא מֵאָה֙ כִּכַּר־כֶּ֔סֶף וַעֲשֶׂ֨רֶת אֲלָפִ֤ים כֹּרִים֙ חִטִּ֔ים וּשְׂעוֹרִ֖ים עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת אֲלָפִ֑ים זֹ֗את הֵשִׁ֤יבוּ לוֹ֙ בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹן ס וּבַשָּׁנָ֥ה הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית וְהַשְּׁלִשִֽׁית׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitechazּe֖q yota֑m kּi֚y heki֣yn dּeraka֔yv lipene֖y yehva֥h 'elohaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.

וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֖ק יוֹתָ֑ם כִּ֚י הֵכִ֣ין דְּרָכָ֔יו לִפְנֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyeter֙ dּibere֣y yota֔m vekal-milechamota֖yv uderaka֑yv hinּa֣m kּetubi֔ym 'al-se֥per malekeֽy-yishsera'e֖l viyhudaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars and his ways, indeed they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

וְיֶתֶר֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י יוֹתָ֔ם וְכָל־מִלְחֲמֹתָ֖יו וּדְרָכָ֑יו הִנָּ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֔ים עַל־סֵ֥פֶר מַלְכֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וִיהוּדָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּen-'eshseri֧ym vechame֛shsh shshana֖h haya֣h bemalek֑o veshsheshsh-'eshsere֣h shshana֔h mala֖ke bּiyrushshalaiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshekּa֤b yotam֙ 'im-'abota֔yv vayּiqebּer֥u 'ot֖o bּe'i֣yr dּavi֑yd vayּimelo֛ke 'acha֥z bּen֖o tּachetּaֽyv׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)So Jotham rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. Then Ahaz his son reigned in his place.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב יוֹתָם֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ בְּעִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אָחָ֥ז בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ
