Chapter 3

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣chel shshelomo֗h liben֤ot 'et-bּeyt-yehvah֙ bּiyr֣ushshalai֔m bּehar֙ hamּ֣oriyּa֔h 'ashshe֥r nire'a֖h ledavi֣yd 'abi֑yhu 'ashshe֤r hekiyn֙ bּimeq֣om dּavi֔yd bּego֖ren 'arena֥n hayebusiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

וַיָּ֣חֶל שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה לִבְנ֤וֹת אֶת־בֵּית־יְהוָה֙ בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם בְּהַר֙ הַמּ֣וֹרִיָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִרְאָ֖ה לְדָוִ֣יד אָבִ֑יהוּ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֵכִין֙ בִּמְק֣וֹם דָּוִ֔יד בְּגֹ֖רֶן אָרְנָ֥ן הַיְבוּסִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va֠yּachel liben֞ot bּacho֤deshsh hashshּeniy֙ bּashshּeni֔y bּishshena֥t 'arebּa֖ lemalekutֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he began to build on the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.

וַ֠יָּחֶל לִבְנ֞וֹת בַּחֹ֤דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי֙ בַּשֵּׁנִ֔י בִּשְׁנַ֥ת אַרְבַּ֖ע לְמַלְכוּתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֨lּeh֙ husa֣d shshelomo֔h liben֖ot 'et-bּe֣yt ha'elohi֑ym ha'o֡reke 'amּ֞ot bּamּidּa֤h hariֽ'shshonah֙ 'amּ֣ot shshishshּi֔ym vero֖chab 'amּ֥ot 'eshseriֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)These are the foundations which Solomon laid for building the house of God: The length by cubits (according to the former measure) was sixty cubits, and the width twenty cubits.

וְאֵ֨לֶּה֙ הוּסַ֣ד שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה לִבְנ֖וֹת אֶת־בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים הָאֹ֡רֶךְ אַמּ֞וֹת בַּמִּדָּ֤ה הָרִֽאשׁוֹנָה֙ אַמּ֣וֹת שִׁשִּׁ֔ים וְרֹ֖חַב אַמּ֥וֹת עֶשְׂרִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'ula֡m 'ashsher֩ 'al-pּene֨y ha'o֜reke 'al-pּene֤y roֽchab-habּa֨yit֙ 'amּ֣ot 'eshseri֔ym vehagּo֖bahּ me'a֣h ve'eshseri֑ym vayetzapּe֥hu mipּeni֖ymah zaha֥b tahֽor׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the porch that was in front of the house, its length was according to the width of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was one hundred and twenty. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.

וְהָאוּלָ֡ם אֲשֶׁר֩ עַל־פְּנֵ֨י הָאֹ֜רֶךְ עַל־פְּנֵ֤י רֹֽחַב־הַבַּ֨יִת֙ אַמּ֣וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֔ים וְהַגֹּ֖בַהּ מֵאָ֣ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֑ים וַיְצַפֵּ֥הוּ מִפְּנִ֖ימָה זָהָ֥ב טָהֽוֹר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֣t ׀ habּa֣yit hagּad֗ol chipּah֙ 'e֣tz bּeroshshi֔ym vayechapּe֖hu zaha֣b t֑ob vayּa֧'al 'ala֛yv tּimori֖ym veshshareshsherֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The larger house he panelled with cypress, which he overlaid with fine gold, and he carved palm trees and chains on it.

וְאֵ֣ת ׀ הַבַּ֣יִת הַגָּד֗וֹל חִפָּה֙ עֵ֣ץ בְּרוֹשִׁ֔ים וַיְחַפֵּ֖הוּ זָהָ֣ב ט֑וֹב וַיַּ֧עַל עָלָ֛יו תִּמֹרִ֖ים וְשַׁרְשְׁרֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetza֧p 'et-habּa֛yit 'e֥ben yeqara֖h letipe'a֑ret vehazּaha֖b zeha֥b pּarevaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he decorated the house with precious stones for beauty, and the gold was gold from Parvaim.

וַיְצַ֧ף אֶת־הַבַּ֛יִת אֶ֥בֶן יְקָרָ֖ה לְתִפְאָ֑רֶת וְהַזָּהָ֖ב זְהַ֥ב פַּרְוָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayecha֨p 'et-habּa֜yit haqּor֧ot hasּipּi֛ym veqiֽyrota֥yv vedaletota֖yv zaha֑b upitּa֥ch kּerubi֖ym 'al-haqּiyrֽot׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)He also overlaid the house, the beams, the doorposts, its walls and its doors, with gold; and he engraved cherubim on the walls.

וַיְחַ֨ף אֶת־הַבַּ֜יִת הַקֹּר֧וֹת הַסִּפִּ֛ים וְקִֽירוֹתָ֥יו וְדַלְתוֹתָ֖יו זָהָ֑ב וּפִתַּ֥ח כְּרוּבִ֖ים עַל־הַקִּירֽוֹת׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨'ashs֙ 'et-bּeֽyt-qo֣deshsh haqּodashshi֔ym 'arekּ֞o 'al-pּene֤y roֽchab-habּa֨yit֙ 'amּ֣ot 'eshseri֔ym verachebּ֖o 'amּ֣ot 'eshseri֑ym vayechapּe֨hu֙ zaha֣b t֔ob lekikּari֖ym shshe֥shsh me'ֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he made the Most Holy Place. Its length was according to the width of the house, twenty cubits, and its width twenty cubits. He overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.

וַיַּ֨עַשׂ֙ אֶת־בֵּֽית־קֹ֣דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁ֔ים אָרְכּ֞וֹ עַל־פְּנֵ֤י רֹֽחַב־הַבַּ֨יִת֙ אַמּ֣וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֔ים וְרָחְבּ֖וֹ אַמּ֣וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֑ים וַיְחַפֵּ֨הוּ֙ זָהָ֣ב ט֔וֹב לְכִכָּרִ֖ים שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): umishsheqa֛l lemisemer֥ot lishsheqali֖ym chamishshּi֣ym zaha֑b veha'aliyּ֖ot chipּa֥h zahaֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. He also overlaid the upper chambers with gold.

וּמִשְׁקָ֛ל לְמִסְמְר֥וֹת לִשְׁקָלִ֖ים חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים זָהָ֑ב וְהָעֲלִיּ֖וֹת חִפָּ֥ה זָהָֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֜'ashs bּebeֽyt-qo֤deshsh haqּodashshiym֙ kּerubi֣ym shshena֔yim ma'ashse֖h tza'atzu'i֑ym vayetzapּ֥u 'ota֖m zahaֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of sculpted work and overlaid them with gold.

וַיַּ֜עַשׂ בְּבֵֽית־קֹ֤דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים֙ כְּרוּבִ֣ים שְׁנַ֔יִם מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה צַעֲצֻעִ֑ים וַיְצַפּ֥וּ אֹתָ֖ם זָהָֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekanepey֙ hakּerubi֔ym 'arekּa֖m 'amּ֣ot 'eshseri֑ym kּena֨p ha'echa֜d le'amּ֣ot chame֗shsh magּa֨'at֙ leqi֣yr habּa֔yit vehakּana֤p ha'ache֨ret֙ 'amּ֣ot chame֔shsh magּi֕y'a likena֖p hakּer֥ub ha'acheֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits in total length: one wing of the first cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house, and the other wing was five cubits, touching the wing of the other cherub.

וְכַנְפֵי֙ הַכְּרוּבִ֔ים אָרְכָּ֖ם אַמּ֣וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֑ים כְּנַ֨ף הָאֶחָ֜ד לְאַמּ֣וֹת חָמֵ֗שׁ מַגַּ֨עַת֙ לְקִ֣יר הַבַּ֔יִת וְהַכָּנָ֤ף הָאַחֶ֨רֶת֙ אַמּ֣וֹת חָמֵ֔שׁ מַגִּ֕יעַ לִכְנַ֖ף הַכְּר֥וּב הָאַחֵֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ukena֨p hakּer֤ub ha'echad֙ 'amּ֣ot chame֔shsh magּi֖y'a leqi֣yr habּa֑yit vehakּana֤p ha'ache֨ret֙ 'amּ֣ot chame֔shsh dּebeqa֕h likena֖p hakּer֥ub ha'acheֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)One wing of the second cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house, and the other wing was five cubits, joining the wing of the first cherub.

וּכְנַ֨ף הַכְּר֤וּב הָאֶחָד֙ אַמּ֣וֹת חָמֵ֔שׁ מַגִּ֖יעַ לְקִ֣יר הַבָּ֑יִת וְהַכָּנָ֤ף הָאַחֶ֨רֶת֙ אַמּ֣וֹת חָמֵ֔שׁ דְּבֵקָ֕ה לִכְנַ֖ף הַכְּר֥וּב הָאַחֵֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּanepey֙ hakּerubi֣ym ha'e֔lּeh pּoֽreshsi֖ym 'amּ֣ot 'eshseri֑ym vehe֛m 'omedi֥ym 'al-rageleyhe֖m upeneyhe֥m labּaֽyit׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The wings of these cherubim spread out twenty cubits; they stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.

כַּנְפֵי֙ הַכְּרוּבִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה פֹּֽרְשִׂ֖ים אַמּ֣וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֑ים וְהֵ֛ם עֹמְדִ֥ים עַל־רַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם וּפְנֵיהֶ֥ם לַבָּֽיִת׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨'ashs֙ 'et-hapּaro֔ket tּeke֥let ve'aregּama֖n vekaremi֣yl ub֑utz vayּa֥'al 'ala֖yv kּerubiֽym׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And he made the veil of blue, purple, crimson, and fine linen, and wove cherubim onto it.

וַיַּ֨עַשׂ֙ אֶת־הַפָּרֹ֔כֶת תְּכֵ֥לֶת וְאַרְגָּמָ֖ן וְכַרְמִ֣יל וּב֑וּץ וַיַּ֥עַל עָלָ֖יו כְּרוּבִֽים׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֜'ashs lipene֤y habּa֨yit֙ 'amּudi֣ym shshena֔yim 'amּ֕ot shsheloshshi֥ym vechame֖shsh 'o֑reke vehatzּe֥pet 'ashsher-'al-ro'shsh֖o 'amּ֥ot chameֽshsh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Also he made in front of the house two pillars thirty-five cubits high, and the capital that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.

וַיַּ֜עַשׂ לִפְנֵ֤י הַבַּ֨יִת֙ עַמּוּדִ֣ים שְׁנַ֔יִם אַמּ֕וֹת שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וְחָמֵ֖שׁ אֹ֑רֶךְ וְהַצֶּ֥פֶת אֲשֶׁר־עַל־רֹאשׁ֖וֹ אַמּ֥וֹת חָמֵֽשׁ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֤'ashs shshareshsherot֙ bּadּebi֔yr vayּitּe֖n 'al-ro֣'shsh ha'amּudi֑ym vayּa֤'ashs rimּoniym֙ me'a֔h vayּitּe֖n bּaֽshshּareshsherֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He made chains, as in the inner sanctuary, and put them on the tops of the pillars; and he made one hundred pomegranates and put them on the chains.

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ שַׁרְשְׁרוֹת֙ בַּדְּבִ֔יר וַיִּתֵּ֖ן עַל־רֹ֣אשׁ הָעַמֻּדִ֑ים וַיַּ֤עַשׂ רִמּוֹנִים֙ מֵאָ֔ה וַיִּתֵּ֖ן בַּֽשַּׁרְשְׁרֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֤qem 'et-haֽ'amּudiym֙ 'al-pּene֣y haheyka֔l 'echa֥d miyּami֖yn ve'echa֣d meֽhashsּemo֑'vl vayּiqera֤ shshem-hymyny hayemaniy֙ yaki֔yn veshshe֥m hashsּema'li֖y bּoֽ'az׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Then he set up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand and the other on the left; he called the name of the one on the right hand Jachin, and the name of the one on the left Boaz.

וַיָּ֤קֶם אֶת־הָֽעַמּוּדִים֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַהֵיכָ֔ל אֶחָ֥ד מִיָּמִ֖ין וְאֶחָ֣ד מֵֽהַשְּׂמֹ֑אול וַיִּקְרָ֤א שֵׁם־הימיני הַיְמָנִי֙ יָכִ֔ין וְשֵׁ֥ם הַשְּׂמָאלִ֖י בֹּֽעַז׃ס
