Chapter 34
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּen-shshemone֥h shshani֖ym yo'shshiyּa֣hu bemalek֑o ushsheloshshi֤ym ve'achat֙ shshana֔h mala֖ke bּiyrushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

בֶּן־שְׁמוֹנֶ֥ה שָׁנִ֖ים יֹאשִׁיָּ֣הוּ בְמָלְכ֑וֹ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים וְאַחַת֙ שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥'ashs hayּashsha֖r bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h vayּe֗leke bּedarekey֙ dּavi֣yd 'abi֔yv velo'-sa֖r yami֥yn ushsemoֽ'vl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ בְּדַרְכֵי֙ דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֔יו וְלֹא־סָ֖ר יָמִ֥ין וּשְׂמֹֽאול׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubishshemone֨h shshani֜ym lemalek֗o vehu'֙ 'ode֣nּu na֔'ar heche֕l lider֕oshsh le'lohe֖y dּavi֣yd 'abi֑yv ubishshetּe֧ym 'eshsere֣h shshana֗h hechel֙ letahe֔r 'et-yehudah֙ viyr֣ushshalai֔m min-habּamot֙ veha֣'ashsheri֔ym vehapּesili֖ym vehamּasּekֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, he began to seek the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the wooden images, the carved images, and the moulded images.

וּבִשְׁמוֹנֶ֨ה שָׁנִ֜ים לְמָלְכ֗וֹ וְהוּא֙ עוֹדֶ֣נּוּ נַ֔עַר הֵחֵ֕ל לִדְר֕וֹשׁ לֵאלֹהֵ֖י דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֑יו וּבִשְׁתֵּ֧ים עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֗ה הֵחֵל֙ לְטַהֵ֔ר אֶת־יְהוּדָה֙ וִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם מִן־הַבָּמוֹת֙ וְהָ֣אֲשֵׁרִ֔ים וְהַפְּסִלִ֖ים וְהַמַּסֵּכֽוֹת׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayenatּetz֣u lepana֗yv 'e֚t mizebּech֣ot habּe'ali֔ym vehaֽchamּani֛ym 'ashsher-lema֥'elah me'aleyhe֖m gּidּe֑'a ve֠ha'ashsheriym vehapּesili֤ym vehamּasּekot֙ shshibּa֣r veheda֔q vayּizeroq֙ 'al-pּene֣y haqּebari֔ym hazּobechi֖ym laheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars that were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the moulded images he broke in pieces, ground to powder, and scattered on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

וַיְנַתְּצ֣וּ לְפָנָ֗יו אֵ֚ת מִזְבְּח֣וֹת הַבְּעָלִ֔ים וְהַֽחַמָּנִ֛ים אֲשֶׁר־לְמַ֥עְלָה מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם גִּדֵּ֑עַ וְ֠הָאֲשֵׁרִים וְהַפְּסִלִ֤ים וְהַמַּסֵּכוֹת֙ שִׁבַּ֣ר וְהֵדַ֔ק וַיִּזְרֹק֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַקְּבָרִ֔ים הַזֹּבְחִ֖ים לָהֶֽם׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atzemot֙ kּoֽhani֔ym shsara֖p 'al-mzbchvtym mizebּechota֑m vayetahe֥r 'et-yehuda֖h ve'et-yerushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.

וְעַצְמוֹת֙ כֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים שָׂרַ֖ף עַל־מזבחותים מִזְבְּחוֹתָ֑ם וַיְטַהֵ֥ר אֶת־יְהוּדָ֖ה וְאֶת־יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): ube'are֨y menashshּe֧h ve'epera֛yim veshshime'֖on ve'ad-napetּali֑y bhr btyhm bּechareboteyhe֖m sabiֽyb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And so he did in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, as far as Naphtali, in all their surrounding ruins.

וּבְעָרֵ֨י מְנַשֶּׁ֧ה וְאֶפְרַ֛יִם וְשִׁמְע֖וֹן וְעַד־נַפְתָּלִ֑י בהר בתיהם בְּחַרְבֹתֵיהֶ֖ם סָבִֽיב׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayenatּe֣tz 'et-haֽmּizebּech֗ot ve'et-ha'ashsheri֤ym vehapּesiliym֙ kּitּa֣t leheda֔q vekal-haֽchamּani֥ym gּidּa֖ bּekal-'e֣retz yishsera'e֑l vayּa֖shshab liyrushshalaiֽm׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)When he had broken down the altars and the wooden images, and had beaten the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

וַיְנַתֵּ֣ץ אֶת־הַֽמִּזְבְּח֗וֹת וְאֶת־הָאֲשֵׁרִ֤ים וְהַפְּסִלִים֙ כִּתַּ֣ת לְהֵדַ֔ק וְכָל־הַֽחַמָּנִ֥ים גִּדַּ֖ע בְּכָל־אֶ֣רֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיָּ֖שָׁב לִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubishshena֨t shshemone֤h 'eshsereh֙ lemalek֔o letahe֥r ha'a֖retz vehabּa֑yit shsha֠lach 'et-shshapa֨n bּen-'atzaleya֜hu ve'et-ma'ashseya֣hu shsar-ha'i֗yr ve֠'et yo'a֤ch bּen-yֽo'achaz֙ hamּazekּi֔yr lechazּe֕q 'et-bּe֖yt yehva֥h 'elohaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the temple, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

וּבִשְׁנַ֨ת שְׁמוֹנֶ֤ה עֶשְׂרֵה֙ לְמָלְכ֔וֹ לְטַהֵ֥ר הָאָ֖רֶץ וְהַבָּ֑יִת שָׁ֠לַח אֶת־שָׁפָ֨ן בֶּן־אֲצַלְיָ֜הוּ וְאֶת־מַעֲשֵׂיָ֣הוּ שַׂר־הָעִ֗יר וְ֠אֵת יוֹאָ֤ח בֶּן־יֽוֹאָחָז֙ הַמַּזְכִּ֔יר לְחַזֵּ֕ק אֶת־בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽיו׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֜'u 'el-chileqiyּa֣hu ׀ hakּohe֣n hagּad֗ol vaֽyּitּenu֮ 'et-hakּesep֮ hamּuba֣ beyt-'elohiym֒ 'ashshe֣r 'asepֽu-haleviyּim֩ shshomere֨y hasּa֜p miyּa֧d menashshּe֣h ve'epera֗yim umikּol֙ shshe'eri֣yt yishsera'e֔l umikּal-yehuda֖h ubineyami֑n vyshby vayּashshu֖bu yerֽushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites who kept the doors had gathered from the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the remnant of Israel, from all Judah and Benjamin, and which they had brought back to Jerusalem.

וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ אֶל־חִלְקִיָּ֣הוּ ׀ הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּד֗וֹל וַֽיִּתְּנוּ֮ אֶת־הַכֶּסֶף֮ הַמּוּבָ֣א בֵית־אֱלֹהִים֒ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָסְפֽוּ־הַלְוִיִּם֩ שֹׁמְרֵ֨י הַסַּ֜ף מִיַּ֧ד מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה וְאֶפְרַ֗יִם וּמִכֹּל֙ שְׁאֵרִ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּמִכָּל־יְהוּדָ֖ה וּבִנְיָמִ֑ן וישבי וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ יְרֽוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּitּen֗u 'al-yad֙ 'oshse֣h hamּela'ka֔h hamּupeqadi֖ym bּebe֣yt yehva֑h vayּitּen֨u 'ot֜o 'oshse֣y hamּela'ka֗h 'ashshe֤r 'oshsiym֙ bּebe֣yt yehva֔h libedּ֥oq ulechazּe֖q habּaֽyit׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they put it into the hand of the foremen who had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and they gave it to the workmen who worked in the house of the LORD, to repair and restore the house.

וַֽיִּתְּנ֗וּ עַל־יַד֙ עֹשֵׂ֣ה הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה הַמֻּפְקָדִ֖ים בְּבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ אֹת֜וֹ עוֹשֵׂ֣י הַמְּלָאכָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר עֹשִׂים֙ בְּבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה לִבְדּ֥וֹק וּלְחַזֵּ֖ק הַבָּֽיִת׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּitּen֗u lechaֽrashshiym֙ velabּoni֔ym liqenot֙ 'abene֣y machetze֔b ve'etzi֖ym laֽmechabּer֑ot uleqarot֙ 'et-habּa֣tּi֔ym 'ashshe֥r hishshechi֖ytu maleke֥y yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They gave it to the craftsmen and builders to buy hewn stone and timber for beams, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

וַֽיִּתְּנ֗וּ לֶחָֽרָשִׁים֙ וְלַבֹּנִ֔ים לִקְנוֹת֙ אַבְנֵ֣י מַחְצֵ֔ב וְעֵצִ֖ים לַֽמְחַבְּר֑וֹת וּלְקָרוֹת֙ אֶת־הַבָּ֣תִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר הִשְׁחִ֖יתוּ מַלְכֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'anashshiym֩ 'oshsi֨ym bּe'emuna֜h bּamּela'ka֗h va'aleyhe֣m ׀ mu֠peqadiym ya֣chat ve'obadeya֤hu haleviyּim֙ min-bּene֣y merari֔y uzekareya֧h umeshshulּa֛m min-bּene֥y haqּehati֖ym lenatzּe֑cha veha֨leviyּi֔m kּal-mebi֖yn bּikeley-shshiֽyr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And the men did the work faithfully. Their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to supervise. Others of the Levites, all of whom were skilful with musical instruments,

וְהָאֲנָשִׁים֩ עֹשִׂ֨ים בֶּאֱמוּנָ֜ה בַּמְּלָאכָ֗ה וַעֲלֵיהֶ֣ם ׀ מֻ֠פְקָדִים יַ֣חַת וְעֹבַדְיָ֤הוּ הַלְוִיִּם֙ מִן־בְּנֵ֣י מְרָרִ֔י וּזְכַרְיָ֧ה וּמְשֻׁלָּ֛ם מִן־בְּנֵ֥י הַקְּהָתִ֖ים לְנַצֵּ֑חַ וְהַ֨לְוִיִּ֔ם כָּל־מֵבִ֖ין בִּכְלֵי־שִֽׁיר׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֣l hasּabּali֗ym uֽmenatzּechiym֙ lekol֙ 'oshse֣h mela'ka֔h la'aboda֖h va'aboda֑h umeֽhaleviyּi֔m soperi֥ym veshshoteri֖ym veshsho'ariֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)were over the burden bearers and were overseers of all who did work in any kind of service. And some of the Levites were scribes, officers, and gatekeepers.

וְעַ֣ל הַסַּבָּלִ֗ים וּֽמְנַצְּחִים֙ לְכֹל֙ עֹשֵׂ֣ה מְלָאכָ֔ה לַעֲבוֹדָ֖ה וַעֲבוֹדָ֑ה וּמֵֽהַלְוִיִּ֔ם סוֹפְרִ֥ים וְשֹׁטְרִ֖ים וְשׁוֹעֲרִֽים׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubehotziy'a֣m 'et-hakּe֔sep hamּuba֖ bּe֣yt yehva֑h matza'֙ chileqiyּa֣hu hakּohe֔n 'et-se֥per tּֽorat-yehva֖h bּeyad-moshsheֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD given by Moses.

וּבְהוֹצִיאָ֣ם אֶת־הַכֶּ֔סֶף הַמּוּבָ֖א בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה מָצָא֙ חִלְקִיָּ֣הוּ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן אֶת־סֵ֥פֶר תּֽוֹרַת־יְהוָ֖ה בְּיַד־מֹשֶֽׁה׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣'an chileqiyּa֗hu vayּo֨'mer֙ 'el-shshapa֣n hasּope֔r se֧per hatּora֛h matza֖'tiy bּebe֣yt yehva֑h vayּitּe֧n chileqiyּa֛hu 'et-hasּe֖per 'el-shshapaֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD." And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

וַיַּ֣עַן חִלְקִיָּ֗הוּ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֶל־שָׁפָ֣ן הַסּוֹפֵ֔ר סֵ֧פֶר הַתּוֹרָ֛ה מָצָ֖אתִי בְּבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּתֵּ֧ן חִלְקִיָּ֛הוּ אֶת־הַסֵּ֖פֶר אֶל־שָׁפָֽן׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabe֨ shshapa֤n 'et-hasּe֨per֙ 'el-hamּe֔leke vayּa֨shsheb '֧od 'et-hamּe֛leke dּaba֖r le'mo֑r kּo֛l 'ashsher-nitּa֥n bּeyad-'abade֖yka he֥m 'oshsiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Shaphan carried the book to the king, bringing the king word, saying, "All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.

וַיָּבֵ֨א שָׁפָ֤ן אֶת־הַסֵּ֨פֶר֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיָּ֨שֶׁב ע֧וֹד אֶת־הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ דָּבָ֖ר לֵאמֹ֑ר כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־נִתַּ֥ן בְּיַד־עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ הֵ֥ם עֹשִֽׂים׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּatּi֕yku 'et-hakּe֖sep hanּimetza֣ bּebeyt-yehva֑h vaֽyּitּen֗uhu 'al-yad֙ hamּupeqadi֔ym ve'al-ya֖d 'oshse֥y hamּela'kaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And they have gathered the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen."

וַיַּתִּ֕יכוּ אֶת־הַכֶּ֖סֶף הַנִּמְצָ֣א בְּבֵית־יְהוָ֑ה וַֽיִּתְּנ֗וּהוּ עַל־יַד֙ הַמֻּפְקָדִ֔ים וְעַל־יַ֖ד עוֹשֵׂ֥י הַמְּלָאכָֽה׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּagּe֞d shshapa֤n hasּoper֙ lamּe֣leke le'mo֔r se֚per na֣tan li֔y chileqiyּa֖hu hakּohe֑n vayּiqera'-b֥o shshapa֖n lipene֥y hamּeֽleke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." And Shaphan read it before the king.

וַיַּגֵּ֞ד שָׁפָ֤ן הַסּוֹפֵר֙ לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ לֵאמֹ֔ר סֵ֚פֶר נָ֣תַן לִ֔י חִלְקִיָּ֖הוּ הַכֹּהֵ֑ן וַיִּקְרָא־ב֥וֹ שָׁפָ֖ן לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehiy֙ kּishshemo֣'a hamּe֔leke 'e֖t dּibere֣y hatּora֑h vayּiqera֖ 'et-bּegadaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Thus it happened, when the king heard the words of the Law, that he tore his clothes.

וַיְהִי֙ כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֣י הַתּוֹרָ֑ה וַיִּקְרַ֖ע אֶת־בְּגָדָֽיו׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetza֣v hamּe֡leke 'et-chileqiyּa֡hu ve'et-'achiyqa֣m bּen-shsha֠pan ve'et-'abedּ֨on bּen-miyka֜h ve'e֣t ׀ shshapa֣n hasּope֗r ve'e֛t 'ashsaya֥h 'eֽbed-hamּe֖leke le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king, saying,

וַיְצַ֣ו הַמֶּ֡לֶךְ אֶת־חִלְקִיָּ֡הוּ וְאֶת־אֲחִיקָ֣ם בֶּן־שָׁ֠פָן וְאֶת־עַבְדּ֨וֹן בֶּן־מִיכָ֜ה וְאֵ֣ת ׀ שָׁפָ֣ן הַסּוֹפֵ֗ר וְאֵ֛ת עֲשָׂיָ֥ה עֶֽבֶד־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ לֵאמֹֽר׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): leku֩ direshsh֨u 'et-yehva֜h bּa'adi֗y ube'ad֙ hanּishshe'ar֙ bּeyishsera'e֣l ubiֽyhuda֔h 'al-dּibere֥y hasּe֖per 'ashshe֣r nimetza֑ kּiֽy-gedola֤h chamat-yehvah֙ 'ashshe֣r nitּeka֣h ba֔nu 'al֩ 'ashshe֨r lo'-shshamer֤u 'abote֨ynu֙ 'et-dּeba֣r yehva֔h la'ashs֕ot kּekal-hakּat֖ub 'al-hasּe֥per hazּeֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)"Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for those who are left in Israel and Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book."

לְכוּ֩ דִרְשׁ֨וּ אֶת־יְהוָ֜ה בַּעֲדִ֗י וּבְעַד֙ הַנִּשְׁאָר֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל וּבִֽיהוּדָ֔ה עַל־דִּבְרֵ֥י הַסֵּ֖פֶר אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִמְצָ֑א כִּֽי־גְדוֹלָ֤ה חֲמַת־יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִתְּכָ֣ה בָ֔נוּ עַל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹא־שָׁמְר֤וּ אֲבוֹתֵ֨ינוּ֙ אֶת־דְּבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה לַעֲשׂ֕וֹת כְּכָל־הַכָּת֖וּב עַל־הַסֵּ֥פֶר הַזֶּֽה׃פ

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֨leke chileqiyּa֜hu va'ashshe֣r hamּe֗leke 'el-chuledּa֨h hanּebiy'a֜h 'e֣shshet ׀ shshalּu֣m bּen-tvqht tּaqeha֗t bּen-chaserah֙ shshome֣r habּegadi֔ym vehi֛y yoshshe֥bet bּiyrushshala֖im bּamּishshene֑h vayedabּer֥u 'ele֖yha kּazoֽ't׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)So Hilkiah and those the king had appointed went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter); and they spoke to her about this.

וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ חִלְקִיָּ֜הוּ וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ אֶל־חֻלְדָּ֨ה הַנְּבִיאָ֜ה אֵ֣שֶׁת ׀ שַׁלֻּ֣ם בֶּן־תוקהת תָּקְהַ֗ת בֶּן־חַסְרָה֙ שׁוֹמֵ֣ר הַבְּגָדִ֔ים וְהִ֛יא יוֹשֶׁ֥בֶת בִּירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בַּמִּשְׁנֶ֑ה וַיְדַבְּר֥וּ אֵלֶ֖יהָ כָּזֹֽאת׃ס

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּo֣'mer lahe֔m kּoh-'ama֥r yehva֖h 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֑l 'imer֣u la'i֔yshsh 'ashsher-shshala֥ch 'eteke֖m 'elaֽy׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)Then she answered them, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'Tell the man who sent you to me,

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם כֹּה־אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אִמְר֣וּ לָאִ֔ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־שָׁלַ֥ח אֶתְכֶ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֚h 'ama֣r yehva֔h hineni֨y mebi֥y ra'a֛h 'al-hamּaq֥om hazּe֖h ve'al-yoshsheba֑yv 'e֤t kּal-ha'alot֙ hakּetub֣ot 'al-hasּe֔per 'ashshe֣r qaֽre'֔u lipene֖y me֥leke yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Thus says the LORD: 'Look, I will bring disaster on this place and on its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah,

כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִנְנִ֨י מֵבִ֥יא רָעָ֛ה עַל־הַמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה וְעַל־יוֹשְׁבָ֑יו אֵ֤ת כָּל־הָאָלוֹת֙ הַכְּתוּב֣וֹת עַל־הַסֵּ֔פֶר אֲשֶׁ֣ר קָֽרְא֔וּ לִפְנֵ֖י מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tּa֣chat ׀ 'ashshe֣r 'azab֗uniy vyqtyrv vaֽyeqatּeru֙ leֽ'lohi֣ym 'acheri֔ym lema֨'an֙ hake'iyse֔niy bּeko֖l ma'ashse֣y yedeyhe֑m vetitּa֧ke chamati֛y bּamּaq֥om hazּe֖h velo֥ tikebּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath will be poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched.' " ' "'"

תַּ֣חַת ׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עֲזָב֗וּנִי ויקטירו וַֽיְקַטְּרוּ֙ לֵֽאלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים לְמַ֨עַן֙ הַכְעִיסֵ֔נִי בְּכֹ֖ל מַעֲשֵׂ֣י יְדֵיהֶ֑ם וְתִתַּ֧ךְ חֲמָתִ֛י בַּמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה וְלֹ֥א תִכְבֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'el-me֣leke yehuda֗h hashshּole֤cha 'etekem֙ lider֣oshsh bּaֽyhva֔h kּo֥h to'mer֖u 'ela֑yv s kּoֽh-'ama֤r yehvah֙ 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֔l hadּebari֖ym 'ashshe֥r shshamaֽ'etּa׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, in this manner you shall speak to him: 'Thus says the LORD God of Israel: "Regarding the words which you have heard,

וְאֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֗ה הַשֹּׁלֵ֤חַ אֶתְכֶם֙ לִדְר֣וֹשׁ בַּֽיהוָ֔ה כֹּ֥ה תֹאמְר֖וּ אֵלָ֑יו ס כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁמָֽעְתָּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ya֠'an rake-leba֨beka֜ vatּikּana֣ ׀ milּipene֣y 'elohi֗ym bּeshshame'aka֤ 'et-dּebarayv֙ 'al-hamּaq֤om hazּeh֙ ve'al-yo֣shsheba֔yv vatּikּana֣ lepana֔y vatּiqera֥ 'et-bּegade֖yka vatּe֣bekּe lepana֑y vegam-'ani֥y shshama֖'etּiy ne'um-yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before Me, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you," says the LORD.

יַ֠עַן רַךְ־לְבָ֨בְךָ֜ וַתִּכָּנַ֣ע ׀ מִלִּפְנֵ֣י אֱלֹהִ֗ים בְּשָׁמְעֲךָ֤ אֶת־דְּבָרָיו֙ עַל־הַמָּק֤וֹם הַזֶּה֙ וְעַל־יֹ֣שְׁבָ֔יו וַתִּכָּנַ֣ע לְפָנַ֔י וַתִּקְרַ֥ע אֶת־בְּגָדֶ֖יךָ וַתֵּ֣בְךְּ לְפָנָ֑י וְגַם־אֲנִ֥י שָׁמַ֖עְתִּי נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hineni֨y 'oֽsipeka֜ 'el-'abote֗yka vene'esapetּa֣ 'el-qiberoteyka֮ bּeshshalom֒ velo'-tire'e֣ynah 'eyne֔yka bּekol֙ haֽra'a֔h 'ashshe֨r 'ani֥y mebi֛y 'al-hamּaq֥om hazּe֖h ve'al-yoshsheba֑yv vayּashshi֥ybu 'et-hamּe֖leke dּabaֽr׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)"Surely I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the disaster which I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants." ' " So they brought back word to the king.

הִנְנִ֨י אֹֽסִפְךָ֜ אֶל־אֲבֹתֶ֗יךָ וְנֶאֱסַפְתָּ֣ אֶל־קִבְרֹתֶיךָ֮ בְּשָׁלוֹם֒ וְלֹא־תִרְאֶ֣ינָה עֵינֶ֔יךָ בְּכֹל֙ הָֽרָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֲנִ֥י מֵבִ֛יא עַל־הַמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה וְעַל־יֹשְׁבָ֑יו וַיָּשִׁ֥יבוּ אֶת־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ דָּבָֽר׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshela֖ch hamּe֑leke vayּe'eso֕p 'et-kּal-ziqene֥y yehuda֖h viyrushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֖ח הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֶּאֱסֹ֕ף אֶת־כָּל־זִקְנֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה וִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣'al hamּe֣leke bּeyt-ye֠hvah vekal-'i֨yshsh yehuda֜h veyoshshebe֣y yerushshalai֗m vehakּoֽhaniym֙ vehaleviyּi֔m vekal-ha'a֖m migּad֣ol ve'ad-qata֑n vayּiqera֣ be'azeneyhe֗m 'et-kּal-dּiberey֙ se֣per habּeri֔yt hanּimetza֖ bּe֥yt yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The king went up to the house of the LORD, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people, great and small. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD.

וַיַּ֣עַל הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ בֵּית־יְ֠הוָה וְכָל־אִ֨ישׁ יְהוּדָ֜ה וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם וְהַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם וְכָל־הָעָ֖ם מִגָּד֣וֹל וְעַד־קָטָ֑ן וַיִּקְרָ֣א בְאָזְנֵיהֶ֗ם אֶת־כָּל־דִּבְרֵי֙ סֵ֣פֶר הַבְּרִ֔ית הַנִּמְצָ֖א בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'amo֨d hamּe֜leke 'al-'amed֗o vayּikero֣t 'eֽt-habּeriyt֮ lipene֣y yehvah֒ lale֜ket 'achare֣y yehva֗h velishshem֤or 'et-mitzevotayv֙ ve'eֽdevota֣yv vechuqּa֔yv bּekal-lebab֖o ubekal-napeshsh֑o la'ashsot֙ 'et-dּibere֣y habּeri֔yt hakּetubi֖ym 'al-hasּe֥per hazּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king stood by his pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.

וַיַּעֲמֹ֨ד הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ עַל־עָמְד֗וֹ וַיִּכְרֹ֣ת אֶֽת־הַבְּרִית֮ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָה֒ לָלֶ֜כֶת אַחֲרֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה וְלִשְׁמ֤וֹר אֶת־מִצְוֺתָיו֙ וְעֵֽדְוֺתָ֣יו וְחֻקָּ֔יו בְּכָל־לְבָב֖וֹ וּבְכָל־נַפְשׁ֑וֹ לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֣י הַבְּרִ֔ית הַכְּתוּבִ֖ים עַל־הַסֵּ֥פֶר הַזֶּֽה׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'ame֕d 'e֛t kּal-hanּimetza֥ biyrushshala֖im ubineyami֑n vaֽyּa'ashsu֙ yoshshebe֣y yerushshalai֔m kּiberi֥yt 'elohi֖ym 'elohe֥y 'aboteyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin take their stand. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

וַיַּעֲמֵ֕ד אֵ֛ת כָּל־הַנִּמְצָ֥א בִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם וּבִנְיָמִ֑ן וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֙ יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם כִּבְרִ֥ית אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֱלֹהֵ֥י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨sar yoֽ'shshiyּa֜hu 'et-kּal-hatּo'eb֗ot miֽkּal-ha'aratzot֮ 'ashshe֣r libene֣y yishsera'el֒ vaֽyּa'abe֗d 'e֤t kּal-hanּimetza'֙ bּeyishsera'e֔l la'ab֖od 'et-yehva֣h 'eloheyhe֑m kּal-yama֕yv lo֣ sa֔ru meֽ'achare֕y yehva֖h 'elohe֥y 'aboteyheֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Thus Josiah removed all the abominations from all the country that belonged to the children of Israel, and made all who were present in Israel diligently serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not depart from following the LORD God of their fathers.

וַיָּ֨סַר יֹֽאשִׁיָּ֜הוּ אֶת־כָּל־הַתּוֹעֵב֗וֹת מִֽכָּל־הָאֲרָצוֹת֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לִבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַֽיַּעֲבֵ֗ד אֵ֤ת כָּל־הַנִּמְצָא֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַעֲב֖וֹד אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם כָּל־יָמָ֕יו לֹ֣א סָ֔רוּ מֵֽאַחֲרֵ֕י יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃פ
