Chapter 5
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּishshelam֙ kּal-hamּela'ka֔h 'ashsher-'ashsa֥h shshelomo֖h lebe֣yt yehva֑h s vayּabe֨ shshelomo֜h 'et-qadeshshe֣y ׀ dּavi֣yd 'abi֗yv ve'et-hakּe֤sep ve'et-hazּahab֙ ve'et-kּal-hakּeli֔ym nata֕n bּe'otzer֖ot bּe֥yt ha'elohiֽym׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)So all the work that Solomon had done for the house of the LORD was finished; and Solomon brought in the things which his father David had dedicated: the silver and the gold and all the furnishings he put in the treasuries of the house of God.

וַתִּשְׁלַם֙ כָּל־הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה ס וַיָּבֵ֨א שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה אֶת־קָדְשֵׁ֣י ׀ דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֗יו וְאֶת־הַכֶּ֤סֶף וְאֶת־הַזָּהָב֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־הַכֵּלִ֔ים נָתַ֕ן בְּאֹצְר֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): az֩ yaqehe֨yl shshelomo֜h 'et-ziqene֣y yishsera'e֗l ve'et-kּal-ra'shshe֨y hamּatּ֜ot neshsiy'e֧y ha'ab֛ot libene֥y yishsera'e֖l 'el-yerushshala֑im leֽha'al֞ot 'et-'ar֧on bּeriyt-yehva֛h me'i֥yr dּavi֖yd hi֥y tziyּֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Solomon assembled the leaders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel, in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the City of David, which is Zion.

אָז֩ יַקְהֵ֨יל שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה אֶת־זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְאֶת־כָּל־רָאשֵׁ֨י הַמַּטּ֜וֹת נְשִׂיאֵ֧י הָאָב֛וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם לְֽהַעֲל֞וֹת אֶת־אֲר֧וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֛ה מֵעִ֥יר דָּוִ֖יד הִ֥יא צִיּֽוֹן׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּahal֧u 'el-hamּe֛leke kּal-'i֥yshsh yishsera'e֖l bּecha֑g h֖u hacho֥deshsh hashshּebi'iֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore all the men of Israel assembled with the king at the feast, which was in the seventh month.

וַיִּקָּהֲל֧וּ אֶל־הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ כָּל־אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בֶּחָ֑ג ה֖וּא הַחֹ֥דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֕'u kּo֖l ziqene֣y yishsera'e֑l vayּishse'֥u haleviyּi֖m 'et-ha'arֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So all the leaders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark.

וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ כֹּ֖ל זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ הַלְוִיִּ֖ם אֶת־הָאָרֽוֹן׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'al֤u 'et-ha'aron֙ ve'et-'o֣hel mo'e֔d ve'et-kּal-kּele֥y haqּo֖deshsh 'ashshe֣r bּa'o֑hel he'el֣u 'ota֔m hakּohani֖ym haleviyּiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they brought up the ark, the tabernacle of meeting, and all the holy furnishings that were in the tabernacle. The priests and the Levites brought them up.

וַיַּעֲל֤וּ אֶת־הָאָרוֹן֙ וְאֶת־אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וְאֶת־כָּל־כְּלֵ֥י הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּאֹ֑הֶל הֶעֱל֣וּ אֹתָ֔ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים הַלְוִיִּֽם׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehamּe֣leke shshelomo֗h vekal-'ada֧t yishsera'e֛l hanּo'adi֥ym 'ala֖yv lipene֣y ha'ar֑on mezabּechiym֙ tzo֣'n ubaqa֔r 'ashshe֧r loֽ'-yisּaper֛u velo֥ yimּan֖u meroֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Also King Solomon, and all the assembly of Israel who were assembled with him before the ark, were sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be counted or numbered for multitude.

וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה וְכָל־עֲדַ֧ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל הַנּוֹעָדִ֥ים עָלָ֖יו לִפְנֵ֣י הָאָר֑וֹן מְזַבְּחִים֙ צֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־יִסָּפְר֛וּ וְלֹ֥א יִמָּנ֖וּ מֵרֹֽב׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabi֣y'u ha֠kּohaniym 'et-'ar֨on bּeriyt-yehva֧h 'el-meqom֛o 'el-dּebi֥yr habּa֖yit 'el-qo֣deshsh haqּedashshi֑ym 'el-tּa֖chat kּanepe֥y hakּerubiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the temple, to the Most Holy Place, under the wings of the cherubim.

וַיָּבִ֣יאוּ הַ֠כֹּהֲנִים אֶת־אֲר֨וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֧ה אֶל־מְקוֹמ֛וֹ אֶל־דְּבִ֥יר הַבַּ֖יִת אֶל־קֹ֣דֶשׁ הַקְּדָשִׁ֑ים אֶל־תַּ֖חַת כַּנְפֵ֥י הַכְּרוּבִֽים׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּihey֤u hakּerubiym֙ pּoreshsi֣ym kּenapa֔yim 'al-meq֖om ha'ar֑on vayekasּ֧u hakּerubi֛ym 'al-ha'ar֥on ve'al-bּadּa֖yv milemaֽ'elah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles.

וַיִּהְי֤וּ הַכְּרוּבִים֙ פֹּרְשִׂ֣ים כְּנָפַ֔יִם עַל־מְק֖וֹם הָאָר֑וֹן וַיְכַסּ֧וּ הַכְּרוּבִ֛ים עַל־הָאָר֥וֹן וְעַל־בַּדָּ֖יו מִלְמָֽעְלָה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּa'ariyku֮ habּadּiym֒ vayּera'u֩ ra'shshe֨y habּadּi֤ym min-ha'aron֙ 'al-pּene֣y hadּebi֔yr velo֥ yera'֖u hach֑utzah vaֽyehiy-shsha֔m 'a֖d hayּ֥om hazּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The poles extended so that the ends of the poles of the ark could be seen from the holy place, in front of the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen from the outside. And they are there to this day.

וַֽיַּאֲרִיכוּ֮ הַבַּדִּים֒ וַיֵּרָאוּ֩ רָאשֵׁ֨י הַבַּדִּ֤ים מִן־הָאָרוֹן֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֔יר וְלֹ֥א יֵרָא֖וּ הַח֑וּצָה וַֽיְהִי־שָׁ֔ם עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): e֚yn bּaֽ'ar֔on ra֚q shshene֣y halּuch֔ot 'ashsher-nata֥n moshshe֖h bּechore֑b 'ashshe֨r kּara֤t yehvah֙ 'im-bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l bּetze'ta֖m mimּitzeraֽyim׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Nothing was in the ark except the two tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they had come out of Egypt.

אֵ֚ין בָּֽאָר֔וֹן רַ֚ק שְׁנֵ֣י הַלֻּח֔וֹת אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֖ה בְּחֹרֵ֑ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר כָּרַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ עִם־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּצֵאתָ֖ם מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃פ

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֕y bּetze֥'t hakּohani֖ym min-haqּo֑deshsh kּi֠y kּal-hakּohani֤ym haֽnּimetze'iym֙ hiteqadּa֔shshu 'e֖yn lishshem֥or lemacheleqֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass when the priests came out of the Most Holy Place (for all the priests who were present had sanctified themselves, without keeping to their divisions),

וַיְהִ֕י בְּצֵ֥את הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים מִן־הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ כִּ֠י כָּל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים הַֽנִּמְצְאִים֙ הִתְקַדָּ֔שׁוּ אֵ֖ין לִשְׁמ֥וֹר לְמַחְלְקֽוֹת׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaleviyּi֣m hameshshorari֣ym lekulּa֡m le'asa֡p leheyma֣n liֽ֠ydutun velibeneyhe֨m vela'acheyhe֜m melubּashshi֣ym bּ֗utz bּimetziletּa֨yim֙ ubinebali֣ym vekinּor֔ot 'omedi֖ym mizera֣ch lamּizebּe֑cha ve'imּahe֤m kּoֽhaniym֙ leme'a֣h ve'eshseri֔ym mchtzrrym machetzeri֖ym bּachatzoֽtzerֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and the Levites who were the singers, all those of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, with their sons and their brothers, stood at the east end of the altar, clothed in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and harps, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets,

וְהַלְוִיִּ֣ם הַמְשֹׁרֲרִ֣ים לְכֻלָּ֡ם לְאָסָ֡ף לְהֵימָ֣ן לִֽ֠ידֻתוּן וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֨ם וְלַאֲחֵיהֶ֜ם מְלֻבָּשִׁ֣ים בּ֗וּץ בִּמְצִלְתַּ֨יִם֙ וּבִנְבָלִ֣ים וְכִנֹּר֔וֹת עֹמְדִ֖ים מִזְרָ֣ח לַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ וְעִמָּהֶ֤ם כֹּֽהֲנִים֙ לְמֵאָ֣ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֔ים מחצררים מַחְצְרִ֖ים בַּחֲצֹֽצְרֽוֹת׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y ke֠'echad lmchtztzrym lamechatzּeri֨ym velameshshoֽrari֜ym lehashshemi֣y'a qol-'echa֗d lehalּe֣l ulehodot֮ layhvah֒ ukehari֣ym q֠ol bּachatzotzer֨ot ubimetziletּa֜yim ubikele֣y hashshּi֗yr ubehalּe֤l layhvah֙ kּi֣y t֔ob kּi֥y le'ola֖m chasedּ֑o vehabּa֛yit male֥ 'ana֖n bּe֥yt yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying: "For He is good, For His mercy endures forever," that the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud,

וַיְהִ֣י כְ֠אֶחָד למחצצרים לַמְחַצְּרִ֨ים וְלַמְשֹֽׁרֲרִ֜ים לְהַשְׁמִ֣יעַ קוֹל־אֶחָ֗ד לְהַלֵּ֣ל וּלְהֹדוֹת֮ לַיהוָה֒ וּכְהָרִ֣ים ק֠וֹל בַּחֲצֹצְר֨וֹת וּבִמְצִלְתַּ֜יִם וּבִכְלֵ֣י הַשִּׁ֗יר וּבְהַלֵּ֤ל לַיהוָה֙ כִּ֣י ט֔וֹב כִּ֥י לְעוֹלָ֖ם חַסְדּ֑וֹ וְהַבַּ֛יִת מָלֵ֥א עָנָ֖ן בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): velo'-yֽakel֧u hakּohani֛ym la'am֥od leshshare֖t mipּene֣y he'ana֑n kּiֽy-male֥ kebod-yehva֖h 'et-bּe֥yt ha'elohiֽym׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.

וְלֹא־יָֽכְל֧וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים לַעֲמ֥וֹד לְשָׁרֵ֖ת מִפְּנֵ֣י הֶעָנָ֑ן כִּֽי־מָלֵ֥א כְבוֹד־יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃פ
