Chapter 6

Phonetic (Hebrew): a֖z 'ama֣r shshelomo֑h yehva֣h 'ama֔r lishshekּ֖on bּa'arapeֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Solomon spoke: "The LORD said He would dwell in the dark cloud [1].

אָ֖ז אָמַ֣ר שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה יְהוָ֣ה אָמַ֔ר לִשְׁכּ֖וֹן בָּעֲרָפֶֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽ'ani֛y bּani֥ytiy beyt-zebu֖l la֑ke umak֥on leshshibetּeka֖ 'olamiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I have surely built You a house of habitation, and a place for Your dwelling forever."

וַֽאֲנִ֛י בָּנִ֥יתִי בֵית־זְבֻ֖ל לָ֑ךְ וּמָכ֥וֹן לְשִׁבְתְּךָ֖ עוֹלָמִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּasּe֤b hamּe֨leke֙ 'et-pּana֔yv vayeba֕reke 'e֖t kּal-qeha֣l yishsera'e֑l vekal-qeha֥l yishsera'e֖l 'omeֽd׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king turned around and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing.

וַיַּסֵּ֤ב הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֶת־פָּנָ֔יו וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל־קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְכָל־קְהַ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עוֹמֵֽד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֗'mer bּar֤uke yehvah֙ 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֔l 'ashsher֙ dּibּe֣r bּepi֔yv 'e֖t dּavi֣yd 'abi֑y ubeyada֥yv milּe֖ le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he said: "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has with His hands fulfilled what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר בָּר֤וּךְ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ דִּבֶּ֣ר בְּפִ֔יו אֵ֖ת דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֑י וּבְיָדָ֥יו מִלֵּ֖א לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): min-hayּ֗om 'ashshe֨r hotze֣'tiy 'et-'amּiy֮ me'e֣retz mitzerayim֒ lo'-bacha֣retּiֽy be'i֗yr mikּol֙ shshibete֣y yishsera'e֔l liben֣ot bּa֔yit lihey֥ot shshemi֖y shsha֑m velo'-bacha֣retּiֽy be'i֔yshsh lihey֥ot nagi֖yd 'al-'amּi֥y yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)'Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there, nor did I choose any man to be a ruler over My people Israel.

מִן־הַיּ֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר הוֹצֵ֣אתִי אֶת־עַמִּי֮ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַיִם֒ לֹא־בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי בְעִ֗יר מִכֹּל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לִהְי֥וֹת שְׁמִ֖י שָׁ֑ם וְלֹא־בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי בְאִ֔ישׁ לִהְי֥וֹת נָגִ֖יד עַל־עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ebechar֙ bּiyr֣ushshalai֔m lihey֥ot shshemi֖y shsha֑m va'ebecha֣r bּedavi֔yd lihey֖ot 'al-'amּi֥y yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.'

וָאֶבְחַר֙ בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם לִהְי֥וֹת שְׁמִ֖י שָׁ֑ם וָאֶבְחַ֣ר בְּדָוִ֔יד לִהְי֖וֹת עַל־עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֕y 'im-leba֖b dּavi֣yd 'abi֑y liben֣ot bּa֔yit leshshe֥m yehva֖h 'elohe֥y yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

וַיְהִ֕י עִם־לְבַ֖ב דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֑י לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'el-dּavi֣yd 'abi֔y ya֗'an 'ashshe֤r hayah֙ 'im-leba֣beka֔ liben֥ot bּa֖yit lishshemi֑y heֽtiyb֔ota kּi֥y haya֖h 'im-lebabeֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But the LORD said to my father David, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well in that it was in your heart.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֔י יַ֗עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר הָיָה֙ עִם־לְבָ֣בְךָ֔ לִבְנ֥וֹת בַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִ֑י הֱֽטִיב֔וֹתָ כִּ֥י הָיָ֖ה עִם־לְבָבֶֽךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ra֣q 'atּa֔h lo֥ tibene֖h habּa֑yit kּi֤y bineka֙ hayּotze֣ meֽchalatze֔yka hֽu'-yibene֥h habּa֖yit lishshemiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who will come from your body, he shall build the house for My name.'

רַ֣ק אַתָּ֔ה לֹ֥א תִבְנֶ֖ה הַבָּ֑יִת כִּ֤י בִנְךָ֙ הַיּוֹצֵ֣א מֵֽחֲלָצֶ֔יךָ הֽוּא־יִבְנֶ֥ה הַבַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣qem yehva֔h 'et-dּebar֖o 'ashshe֣r dּibּe֑r va'aq֡um tּachat֩ dּavi֨yd 'abi֜y va'eshshe֣b ׀ 'al-kּisּe֣ yishsera'e֗l kּa'ashsher֙ dּibּe֣r yehva֔h va'ebene֣h habּa֔yit leshshe֥m yehva֖h 'elohe֥y yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So the LORD has fulfilled His word which He spoke, and I have filled the position of my father David, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised; and I have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

וַיָּ֣קֶם יְהוָ֔ה אֶת־דְּבָר֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּ֑ר וָאָק֡וּם תַּחַת֩ דָּוִ֨יד אָבִ֜י וָאֵשֵׁ֣ב ׀ עַל־כִּסֵּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כַּאֲשֶׁר֙ דִּבֶּ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה וָאֶבְנֶ֣ה הַבַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ashsi֥ym shsham֙ 'et-ha֣'ar֔on 'ashsher-shsha֖m bּeri֣yt yehva֑h 'ashshe֥r kּara֖t 'im-bּene֥y yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And there I have put the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD which He made with the children of Israel."

וָאָשִׂ֥ים שָׁם֙ אֶת־הָ֣אָר֔וֹן אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֖ם בְּרִ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר כָּרַ֖ת עִם־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּa'amo֗d lipeney֙ mizebּa֣ch yehva֔h ne֖ged kּal-qeha֣l yishsera'e֑l vayּipero֖shs kּapּaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands

וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד לִפְנֵי֙ מִזְבַּ֣ח יְהוָ֔ה נֶ֖גֶד כָּל־קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּפְרֹ֖שׂ כַּפָּֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-'ashsa֨h shshelomo֜h kּiyּ֣or necho֗shshet vaֽyּitּenehu֮ bּet֣oke ha'azarah֒ chame֨shsh 'amּ֜ot 'arekּ֗o vechame֤shsh 'amּot֙ rachebּ֔o ve'amּ֥ot shshal֖oshsh qomat֑o vayּa'amo֣d 'ala֗yv vayּibera֤ke 'al-bּirekּayv֙ ne֚ged kּal-qeha֣l yishsera'e֔l vayּipero֥shs kּapּa֖yv hashshּamaֽyemah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)(for Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the middle of the court; and he stood on it, knelt down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven);

כִּֽי־עָשָׂ֨ה שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה כִּיּ֣וֹר נְחֹ֗שֶׁת וַֽיִּתְּנֵהוּ֮ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעֲזָרָה֒ חָמֵ֨שׁ אַמּ֜וֹת אָרְכּ֗וֹ וְחָמֵ֤שׁ אַמּוֹת֙ רָחְבּ֔וֹ וְאַמּ֥וֹת שָׁל֖וֹשׁ קוֹמָת֑וֹ וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד עָלָ֗יו וַיִּבְרַ֤ךְ עַל־בִּרְכָּיו֙ נֶ֚גֶד כָּל־קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּפְרֹ֥שׂ כַּפָּ֖יו הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'ma֗r yehva֞h 'elohe֤y yishsera'el֙ 'eyn-kּam֣oka 'elohi֔ym bּashshּama֖yim uba'a֑retz shshome֤r habּeriyt֙ veֽhache֔sed la'abade֕yka haholeki֥ym lepane֖yka bּekal-libּaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)and he said: "LORD God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, who keeps Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their heart.

וַיֹּאמַ֗ר יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֵין־כָּמ֣וֹךָ אֱלֹהִ֔ים בַּשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּבָאָ֑רֶץ שֹׁמֵ֤ר הַבְּרִית֙ וְֽהַחֶ֔סֶד לַעֲבָדֶ֕יךָ הַהֹלְכִ֥ים לְפָנֶ֖יךָ בְּכָל־לִבָּֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ashshe֣r shshama֗retּa le'abedּeka֙ dּavi֣yd 'abi֔y 'e֥t 'ashsher-dּibּa֖retּa l֑o vatּedabּe֥r bּepi֛yka ubeyadeka֥ milּe֖'ta kּayּ֥om hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You have kept what You promised Your servant David my father; You have both spoken with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day.

אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֗רְתָּ לְעַבְדְּךָ֙ דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֔י אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ ל֑וֹ וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר בְּפִ֛יךָ וּבְיָדְךָ֥ מִלֵּ֖אתָ כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֞h yehva֣h ׀ 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֗l shshe֠mor le'abedּeka֨ davi֤yd 'abiy֙ 'et֩ 'ashshe֨r dּibּa֤retּa lּo֙ le'mo֔r lo'-yikּare֨t leka֥ 'iyshsh֙ milּepana֔y yoshshe֖b 'al-kּisּe֣ yishsera'e֑l ra֠q 'im-yishshemer֨u bane֜yka 'et-dּarekּa֗m lale֨ket֙ bּet֣orati֔y kּa'ashshe֥r hala֖ketּa lepanaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, LORD God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, 'You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, provided your sons take heed to their way, to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.'

וְעַתָּ֞ה יְהוָ֣ה ׀ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל שְׁ֠מֹר לְעַבְדְּךָ֨ דָוִ֤יד אָבִי֙ אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבַּ֤רְתָּ לּוֹ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹא־יִכָּרֵ֨ת לְךָ֥ אִישׁ֙ מִלְּפָנַ֔י יוֹשֵׁ֖ב עַל־כִּסֵּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל רַ֠ק אִם־יִשְׁמְר֨וּ בָנֶ֜יךָ אֶת־דַּרְכָּ֗ם לָלֶ֨כֶת֙ בְּת֣וֹרָתִ֔י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָלַ֖כְתָּ לְפָנָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֕h yehva֖h 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֑l yeֽ'amen֙ dּeba֣reka֔ 'ashshe֥r dּibּa֖retּa le'abedּeka֥ ledaviֽyd׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And now, O LORD God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David.

וְעַתָּ֕ה יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יֵֽאָמֵן֙ דְּבָ֣רְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ לְעַבְדְּךָ֥ לְדָוִֽיד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֚y haֽ'umena֔m yeshshe֧b 'elohi֛ym 'et-ha'ada֖m 'al-ha'a֑retz hi֠nּeh shshama֜yim ushsheme֤y hashshּama֨yim֙ lo֣ yekalekּel֔uka 'a֕p kּiֽy-habּa֥yit hazּe֖h 'ashshe֥r bּaniֽytiy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!

כִּ֚י הַֽאֻמְנָ֔ם יֵשֵׁ֧ב אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־הָאָדָ֖ם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ הִ֠נֵּה שָׁמַ֜יִם וּשְׁמֵ֤י הַשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ לֹ֣א יְכַלְכְּל֔וּךָ אַ֕ף כִּֽי־הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנִֽיתִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): upani֜yta 'el-tּepilּa֧t 'abedּeka֛ ve'el-tּechinּat֖o yehva֣h 'eloha֑y lishshemo֤'a 'el-harinּah֙ ve'el-hatּepilּa֔h 'ashshe֥r 'abedּeka֖ mitepּalּe֥l lepaneֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O LORD my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You:

וּפָנִ֜יתָ אֶל־תְּפִלַּ֧ת עַבְדְּךָ֛ וְאֶל־תְּחִנָּת֖וֹ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑י לִשְׁמֹ֤עַ אֶל־הָרִנָּה֙ וְאֶל־הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַבְדְּךָ֖ מִתְפַּלֵּ֥ל לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): liheyot֩ 'eyne֨yka petuch֜ot 'el-habּa֤yit hazּeh֙ yoma֣m vala֔yelah 'el-ha֨mּaq֔om 'ashshe֣r 'ama֔retּa lashs֥um shshimeka֖ shsha֑m lishshem֨o'a֙ 'el-hatּepilּa֔h 'ashshe֣r yitepּalּe֣l 'abedּeka֔ 'el-hamּaq֖om hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)that Your eyes may be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your name, that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place.

לִהְיוֹת֩ עֵינֶ֨יךָ פְתֻח֜וֹת אֶל־הַבַּ֤יִת הַזֶּה֙ יוֹמָ֣ם וָלַ֔יְלָה אֶל־הַ֨מָּק֔וֹם אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֔רְתָּ לָשׂ֥וּם שִׁמְךָ֖ שָׁ֑ם לִשְׁמ֨וֹעַ֙ אֶל־הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל עַבְדְּךָ֔ אֶל־הַמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsha֨ma'etּa֜ 'el-tּachanune֤y 'abedּeka֙ ve'amּeka֣ yishsera'e֔l 'ashshe֥r yiֽtepּaֽlel֖u 'el-hamּaq֣om hazּe֑h ve֠'atּah tּishshema֞ mimּeq֤om shshibetּeka֙ min-hashshּama֔yim veshshama'etּa֖ vesalaֽchetּa׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And may You hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear from Your dwelling place, in heaven; and when You hear, forgive.

וְשָׁ֨מַעְתָּ֜ אֶל־תַּחֲנוּנֵ֤י עַבְדְּךָ֙ וְעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִֽתְפַּֽלְל֖וּ אֶל־הַמָּק֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וְ֠אַתָּה תִּשְׁמַ֞ע מִמְּק֤וֹם שִׁבְתְּךָ֙ מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֖ וְסָלָֽחְתָּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): im-yecheta֥ 'iyshsh֙ lere'e֔hu venaֽshsha'-b֥o 'ala֖h lehaֽ'alot֑o uba֗ 'ala֛h lipene֥y miֽzebּachaka֖ bּabּa֥yit hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"If a man sins against his neighbour, and is forced to take an oath, and comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this temple,

אִם־יֶחֱטָ֥א אִישׁ֙ לְרֵעֵ֔הוּ וְנָֽשָׁא־ב֥וֹ אָלָ֖ה לְהַֽאֲלֹת֑וֹ וּבָ֗א אָלָ֛ה לִפְנֵ֥י מִֽזְבַּחֲךָ֖ בַּבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֣h ׀ tּishshema֣ min-hashshּama֗yim ve'ashsi֨yta֙ veshshapatetּa֣ 'et-'abade֔yka lehashshi֣yb lerashsha֔ late֥t dּarekּ֖o bּero'shsh֑o ulehatzedּi֣yq tzadּi֔yq la֥tet l֖o kּetzideqatֽo׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)then hear from heaven, and act, and judge Your servants, bringing retribution on the wicked by bringing his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.

וְאַתָּ֣ה ׀ תִּשְׁמַ֣ע מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם וְעָשִׂ֨יתָ֙ וְשָׁפַטְתָּ֣ אֶת־עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ לְהָשִׁ֣יב לְרָשָׁ֔ע לָתֵ֥ת דַּרְכּ֖וֹ בְּרֹאשׁ֑וֹ וּלְהַצְדִּ֣יק צַדִּ֔יק לָ֥תֶת ל֖וֹ כְּצִדְקָתֽוֹ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): veֽ'im-yinּage֞p 'amּeka֧ yishsera'e֛l lipene֥y 'oye֖b kּi֣y yeֽchete'u-la֑ke veshsha֨bu֙ vehod֣u 'et-shsheme֔ka vehitepּaֽlel֧u vehiֽtechanּen֛u lepane֖yka bּabּa֥yit hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Or if Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and return and confess Your name, and pray and make supplication before You in this temple,

וְֽאִם־יִנָּגֵ֞ף עַמְּךָ֧ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל לִפְנֵ֥י אוֹיֵ֖ב כִּ֣י יֶֽחֶטְאוּ־לָ֑ךְ וְשָׁ֨בוּ֙ וְהוֹד֣וּ אֶת־שְׁמֶ֔ךָ וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֧וּ וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֛וּ לְפָנֶ֖יךָ בַּבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּah֙ tּishshema֣ min-hashshּama֔yim vesa֣lachetּa֔ lechatּa֖'t 'amּeka֣ yishsera'e֑l vahashsheybotam֙ 'el-ha֣'adama֔h 'ashsher-nata֥tּah lahe֖m vela'aboteyheֽm׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to them and their fathers.

וְאַתָּה֙ תִּשְׁמַ֣ע מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְסָ֣לַחְתָּ֔ לְחַטַּ֖את עַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַהֲשֵׁיבוֹתָם֙ אֶל־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥תָּה לָהֶ֖ם וְלַאֲבֹתֵיהֶֽם׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּehe'atze֧r hashshּama֛yim veloֽ'-yiheye֥h mata֖r kּi֣y yeֽchete'u-la֑ke vehiֽtepּalel֞u 'el-hamּaq֤om hazּeh֙ vehod֣u 'et-shsheme֔ka mechatּa'ta֥m yeshshub֖un kּi֥y ta'aneֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, when they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and turn from their sin because You afflict them,

בְּהֵעָצֵ֧ר הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם וְלֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֥ה מָטָ֖ר כִּ֣י יֶֽחֶטְאוּ־לָ֑ךְ וְהִֽתְפַּלְל֞וּ אֶל־הַמָּק֤וֹם הַזֶּה֙ וְהוֹד֣וּ אֶת־שְׁמֶ֔ךָ מֵחַטָּאתָ֥ם יְשׁוּב֖וּן כִּ֥י תַעֲנֵֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֣h ׀ tּishshema֣ hashshּama֗yim vesa֨lachetּa֜ lechatּa֤'t 'abade֨yka֙ ve'amּeka֣ yishsera'e֔l kּi֥y tore֛m 'el-hadּe֥reke hatּoba֖h 'ashshe֣r yeֽleku-ba֑hּ venatatּa֤h matar֙ 'aֽl-'aretzeka֔ 'ashsher-nata֥tּah le'amּeka֖ lenachalaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)then hear from heaven, and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.

וְאַתָּ֣ה ׀ תִּשְׁמַ֣ע הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם וְסָ֨לַחְתָּ֜ לְחַטַּ֤את עֲבָדֶ֨יךָ֙ וְעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֥י תוֹרֵ֛ם אֶל־הַדֶּ֥רֶךְ הַטּוֹבָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר יֵֽלְכוּ־בָ֑הּ וְנָתַתָּ֤ה מָטָר֙ עַֽל־אַרְצְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥תָּה לְעַמְּךָ֖ לְנַחֲלָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ra'a֞b kּiֽy-yiheye֣h ba'a֗retz dּe֣ber kּiֽy-yiֽ֠heyeh shshidּap֨on veyeraq֜on 'arebּe֤h vechasiyl֙ kּi֣y yiheye֔h kּi֧y yaֽtzar-l֛o 'oyeba֖yv bּe'e֣retz shshe'ara֑yv kּal-ne֖ga vekaֽl-machalaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is;

רָעָ֞ב כִּֽי־יִהְיֶ֣ה בָאָ֗רֶץ דֶּ֣בֶר כִּֽי־יִֽ֠הְיֶה שִׁדָּפ֨וֹן וְיֵרָק֜וֹן אַרְבֶּ֤ה וְחָסִיל֙ כִּ֣י יִהְיֶ֔ה כִּ֧י יָֽצַר־ל֛וֹ אוֹיְבָ֖יו בְּאֶ֣רֶץ שְׁעָרָ֑יו כָּל־נֶ֖גַע וְכָֽל־מַחֲלָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-tּepilּa֣h kal-tּechinּa֗h 'ashshe֤r yiheyeh֙ lekal-ha֣'ada֔m uleko֖l 'amּeka֣ yishsera'e֑l 'ashshe֣r yede'֗u 'i֤yshsh nige'o֙ umake'ob֔o upara֥shs kּapּa֖yv 'el-habּa֥yit hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows his own burden and his own grief, and spreads out his hands toward this temple:

כָּל־תְּפִלָּ֣ה כָל־תְּחִנָּ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִהְיֶה֙ לְכָל־הָ֣אָדָ֔ם וּלְכֹ֖ל עַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר יֵדְע֗וּ אִ֤ישׁ נִגְעוֹ֙ וּמַכְאֹב֔וֹ וּפָרַ֥שׂ כַּפָּ֖יו אֶל־הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve֠'atּah tּishshema֨ min-hashshּama֜yim mek֤on shshibetּe֨ka֙ vesa֣lachetּa֔ venatatּa֤h la'iyshsh֙ kּekal-dּeraka֔yv 'ashshe֥r tּeda֖ 'et-lebab֑o kּi֤y 'atּah֙ lebadּeka֣ yada֔'etּa 'et-leba֖b bּene֥y ha'adaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men),

וְ֠אַתָּה תִּשְׁמַ֨ע מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם מְכ֤וֹן שִׁבְתֶּ֨ךָ֙ וְסָ֣לַחְתָּ֔ וְנָתַתָּ֤ה לָאִישׁ֙ כְּכָל־דְּרָכָ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר תֵּדַ֖ע אֶת־לְבָב֑וֹ כִּ֤י אַתָּה֙ לְבַדְּךָ֣ יָדַ֔עְתָּ אֶת־לְבַ֖ב בְּנֵ֥י הָאָדָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lema֣'an yiֽyra'֗uka lale֨ket֙ bּiderake֔yka kּal-ha֨yּami֔ym 'ashsher-he֥m chayּi֖ym 'al-pּene֣y ha'adama֑h 'ashshe֥r nata֖tּah la'aboteֽynu׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land which You gave to our fathers.

לְמַ֣עַן יִֽירָא֗וּךָ לָלֶ֨כֶת֙ בִּדְרָכֶ֔יךָ כָּל־הַ֨יָּמִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־הֵ֥ם חַיִּ֖ים עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָאֲדָמָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תָּה לַאֲבֹתֵֽינוּ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vega֣m 'el-hanּakeri֗y 'a֠shsher lo֥ me'amּeka֣ yishsera'el֮ hu'֒ uba֣ ׀ me'e֣retz rechoqa֗h lema֨'an shshimeka֤ hagּadol֙ veyadeka֣ hachazaqa֔h uֽzerֽo'aka֖ hanּetuya֑h uba֥'u vehiֽtepּalel֖u 'el-habּa֥yit hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but has come from a far country for the sake of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray toward this temple;

וְגַ֣ם אֶל־הַנָּכְרִ֗י אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹ֥א מֵעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ הוּא֒ וּבָ֣א ׀ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ רְחוֹקָ֗ה לְמַ֨עַן שִׁמְךָ֤ הַגָּדוֹל֙ וְיָדְךָ֣ הַחֲזָקָ֔ה וּֽזְרֽוֹעֲךָ֖ הַנְּטוּיָ֑ה וּבָ֥אוּ וְהִֽתְפַּלְל֖וּ אֶל־הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֞h tּishshema֤ min-hashshּama֨yim֙ mimּek֣on shshibetּe֔ka ve'ashsi֕yta kּeko֛l 'ashsher-yiqera֥ 'ele֖yka hanּakeri֑y lema֣'an yede'u֩ kal-'amּe֨y ha'a֜retz 'et-shsheme֗ka uleyire'a֤h 'oֽteka֙ kּe'amּeka֣ yishsera'e֔l velada֕'at kּiֽy-shshimeka֣ niqera֔ 'al-habּa֥yit hazּe֖h 'ashshe֥r bּaniֽytiy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, that all peoples of the earth may know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that this temple which I have built is called by Your name.

וְאַתָּ֞ה תִּשְׁמַ֤ע מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ מִמְּכ֣וֹן שִׁבְתֶּ֔ךָ וְעָשִׂ֕יתָ כְּכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־יִקְרָ֥א אֵלֶ֖יךָ הַנָּכְרִ֑י לְמַ֣עַן יֵדְעוּ֩ כָל־עַמֵּ֨י הָאָ֜רֶץ אֶת־שְׁמֶ֗ךָ וּלְיִרְאָ֤ה אֹֽתְךָ֙ כְּעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְלָדַ֕עַת כִּֽי־שִׁמְךָ֣ נִקְרָ֔א עַל־הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנִֽיתִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-yetze֨ 'amּeka֤ lamּilechamah֙ 'al-'֣oyeba֔yv bּadּe֖reke 'ashshe֣r tּishshelache֑m vehitepּaֽlel֣u 'ele֗yka dּe֣reke ha'i֤yr hazּo't֙ 'ashshe֣r bּacha֣retּa bּa֔hּ vehabּa֖yit 'ashsher-bּani֥ytiy lishshemeֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"When Your people go out to battle against their enemies, in the way that You send them, and they pray to You toward this city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name,

כִּֽי־יֵצֵ֨א עַמְּךָ֤ לַמִּלְחָמָה֙ עַל־א֣וֹיְבָ֔יו בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּשְׁלָחֵ֑ם וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֣וּ אֵלֶ֗יךָ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הָעִ֤יר הַזֹּאת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּחַ֣רְתָּ בָּ֔הּ וְהַבַּ֖יִת אֲשֶׁר־בָּנִ֥יתִי לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshama'etּa֙ min-hashshּama֔yim 'et-tּepilּata֖m ve'et-tּechinּata֑m ve'ashsi֖yta mishshepּataֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)then hear from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֙ מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם אֶת־תְּפִלָּתָ֖ם וְאֶת־תְּחִנָּתָ֑ם וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ מִשְׁפָּטָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y yechete'u-la֗ke kּi֣y 'e֤yn 'adam֙ 'ashshe֣r lo'-yecheta֔ ve'anapetּa֣ ba֔m unetatּa֖m lipene֣y 'oye֑b veshshab֧um shshobeyhe֛m 'el-'e֥retz rechoqa֖h '֥o qerobaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"When they sin against You (for there is no one who does not sin), and You become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, and they take them captive to a land far or near;

כִּ֣י יֶחֶטְאוּ־לָ֗ךְ כִּ֣י אֵ֤ין אָדָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־יֶחֱטָ֔א וְאָנַפְתָּ֣ בָ֔ם וּנְתַתָּ֖ם לִפְנֵ֣י אוֹיֵ֑ב וְשָׁב֧וּם שׁוֹבֵיהֶ֛ם אֶל־אֶ֥רֶץ רְחוֹקָ֖ה א֥וֹ קְרוֹבָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veheshshi֨ybu֙ 'el-lebaba֔m bּa'a֖retz 'ashshe֣r nishshebּu-shsha֑m veshsha֣bu ׀ vehiֽtechanּen֣u 'ele֗yka bּe'e֤retz shshibeyam֙ le'mo֔r chata֥'nu he'evi֖ynu verashshaֽ'enu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)yet when they come to themselves in the land where they were carried captive, and repent, and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying, 'We have sinned, we have done wrong, and have acted wickedly';

וְהֵשִׁ֨יבוּ֙ אֶל־לְבָבָ֔ם בָּאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁבּוּ־שָׁ֑ם וְשָׁ֣בוּ ׀ וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֣וּ אֵלֶ֗יךָ בְּאֶ֤רֶץ שִׁבְיָם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר חָטָ֥אנוּ הֶעֱוִ֖ינוּ וְרָשָֽׁעְנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsha֣bu 'ele֗yka bּekal-libּam֙ ubekal-napeshsha֔m bּe'e֥retz shshibeya֖m 'ashsher-shshab֣u 'ota֑m vehiֽtepּaֽlel֗u dּe֤reke 'aretzam֙ 'ashshe֣r nata֣tּah la'abota֔m veha'iyr֙ 'ashshe֣r bּacha֔retּa velabּa֖yit 'ashsher-bּani֥ytiy lishshemeֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)and when they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been carried captive, and pray toward their land which You gave to their fathers, toward the city which You have chosen, and toward the temple which I have built for Your name:

וְשָׁ֣בוּ אֵלֶ֗יךָ בְּכָל־לִבָּם֙ וּבְכָל־נַפְשָׁ֔ם בְּאֶ֥רֶץ שִׁבְיָ֖ם אֲשֶׁר־שָׁב֣וּ אֹתָ֑ם וְהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֗וּ דֶּ֤רֶךְ אַרְצָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָתַ֣תָּה לַאֲבוֹתָ֔ם וְהָעִיר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּחַ֔רְתָּ וְלַבַּ֖יִת אֲשֶׁר־בָּנִ֥יתִי לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshama'etּa֨ min-hashshּama֜yim mimּek֣on shshibetּeka֗ 'et-tּepilּatam֙ ve'et-tּechinּo֣teyhe֔m ve'ashsi֖yta mishshepּata֑m vesalachetּa֥ le'amּeka֖ 'ashshe֥r chaֽte'u-laֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)then hear from heaven Your dwelling place their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive Your people who have sinned against You.

וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֨ מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם מִמְּכ֣וֹן שִׁבְתְּךָ֗ אֶת־תְּפִלָּתָם֙ וְאֶת־תְּחִנֹּ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ מִשְׁפָּטָ֑ם וְסָלַחְתָּ֥ לְעַמְּךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָֽטְאוּ־לָֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): atּa֣h 'eloha֗y yiֽheyu-na֤ 'eyne֨yka֙ pּetuch֔ot ve'azene֖yka qashshּub֑ot litepilּa֖t hamּaq֥om hazּeֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"Now, my God, I beg You, let Your eyes be open and let Your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place.

עַתָּ֣ה אֱלֹהַ֗י יִֽהְיוּ־נָ֤א עֵינֶ֨יךָ֙ פְּתֻח֔וֹת וְאָזְנֶ֖יךָ קַשֻּׁב֑וֹת לִתְפִלַּ֖ת הַמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֗h quma֞h yehva֤h 'elohiym֙ leֽnuche֔ka 'atּa֖h va'ar֣on 'uzּe֑ka kּohane֜yka yehva֤h 'elohiym֙ yilebּeshsh֣u teshshu'a֔h vachasiyde֖yka yishsemech֥u batּֽob׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Now therefore, Arise, O LORD God, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. Let Your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let Your saints rejoice in goodness.

וְעַתָּ֗ה קוּמָ֞ה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהִים֙ לְֽנוּחֶ֔ךָ אַתָּ֖ה וַאֲר֣וֹן עֻזֶּ֑ךָ כֹּהֲנֶ֜יךָ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהִים֙ יִלְבְּשׁ֣וּ תְשׁוּעָ֔ה וַחֲסִידֶ֖יךָ יִשְׂמְח֥וּ בַטּֽוֹב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): yehva֣h 'elohi֔ym 'al-tּashshe֖b pּene֣y meshshiyche֑yka zakera֕h lechaֽsede֖y dּavi֥yd 'abedּeֽka׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"O LORD God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed; remember the mercies of Your servant David."

יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֔ים אַל־תָּשֵׁ֖ב פְּנֵ֣י מְשִׁיחֶ֑יךָ זָכְרָ֕ה לְחַֽסְדֵ֖י דָּוִ֥יד עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃פ
