Chapter 7

Phonetic (Hebrew): ukekalּ֤ot shshelomoh֙ lehitepּalּe֔l veha'e֗shsh yaֽredah֙ meֽhashshּama֔yim vatּo֥'kal ha'ola֖h vehazּebachi֑ym ukeb֥od yehva֖h male֥ 'et-habּaֽyit׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

וּכְכַלּ֤וֹת שְׁלֹמֹה֙ לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֔ל וְהָאֵ֗שׁ יָֽרְדָה֙ מֵֽהַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַתֹּ֥אכַל הָעֹלָ֖ה וְהַזְּבָחִ֑ים וּכְב֥וֹד יְהוָ֖ה מָלֵ֥א אֶת־הַבָּֽיִת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velo֤ yaֽkelu֙ hakּo֣hani֔ym lab֖o 'el-bּe֣yt yehva֑h kּiֽy-male֥ kebod-yehva֖h 'et-bּe֥yt yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the priests could not enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’s house.

וְלֹ֤א יָֽכְלוּ֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים לָב֖וֹא אֶל־בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה כִּֽי־מָלֵ֥א כְבוֹד־יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veko֣l ׀ bּene֣y yishsera'e֗l ro'iym֙ bּere֣det ha'e֔shsh ukeb֥od yehva֖h 'al-habּa֑yit vayּikere'u֩ 'apּa֨yim 'a֤retzah 'al-hariֽtzepah֙ vayּiֽshshetּֽachav֔u vehod֤ot layhvah֙ kּi֣y t֔ob kּi֥y le'ola֖m chasedּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshipped and praised the LORD, saying: "For He is good, For His mercy endures forever."

וְכֹ֣ל ׀ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל רֹאִים֙ בְּרֶ֣דֶת הָאֵ֔שׁ וּכְב֥וֹד יְהוָ֖ה עַל־הַבָּ֑יִת וַיִּכְרְעוּ֩ אַפַּ֨יִם אַ֤רְצָה עַל־הָרִֽצְפָה֙ וַיִּֽשְׁתַּֽחֲו֔וּ וְהוֹד֤וֹת לַיהוָה֙ כִּ֣י ט֔וֹב כִּ֥י לְעוֹלָ֖ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehamּe֖leke vekal-ha'a֑m zobechi֥ym ze֖bach lipene֥y yehvaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.

וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וְכָל־הָעָ֑ם זֹבְחִ֥ים זֶ֖בַח לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּizebּa֞ch hamּe֣leke shshelomoh֮ 'et-ze֣bach habּaqa֗r 'eshseri֤ym ushshena֨yim֙ 'e֔lep vetzo֕'n me'a֥h ve'eshseri֖ym 'a֑lep vaֽyּacheneku֙ 'et-bּe֣yt hֽa'elohi֔ym hamּe֖leke vekal-ha'aֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand bulls and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

וַיִּזְבַּ֞ח הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה֮ אֶת־זֶ֣בַח הַבָּקָ֗ר עֶשְׂרִ֤ים וּשְׁנַ֨יִם֙ אֶ֔לֶף וְצֹ֕אן מֵאָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים אָ֑לֶף וַֽיַּחְנְכוּ֙ אֶת־בֵּ֣ית הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וְכָל־הָעָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehakּohani֞ym 'al-mishshemerota֣m 'omedi֗ym vehaleviyּi֞m bּikeley-shshi֤yr yehvah֙ 'ashshe֨r 'ashsa֜h dּavi֣yd hamּe֗leke lehod֤ot layhvah֙ kּiֽy-le'ola֣m chasedּ֔o bּehalּe֥l dּavi֖yd bּeyada֑m vehakּohaniym֙ mchtztzrym machetzeri֣ym negedּa֔m vekal-yishsera'e֖l 'omediֽym׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And the priests attended to their services; the Levites also with instruments of music of the LORD, which King David had made to praise the LORD, saying, "For His mercy endures forever," whenever David offered praise by their ministry. The priests sounded trumpets opposite them, while all Israel stood.

וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֞ים עַל־מִשְׁמְרוֹתָ֣ם עֹמְדִ֗ים וְהַלְוִיִּ֞ם בִּכְלֵי־שִׁ֤יר יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֜ה דָּוִ֣יד הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ לְהֹד֤וֹת לַיהוָה֙ כִּֽי־לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּ֔וֹ בְּהַלֵּ֥ל דָּוִ֖יד בְּיָדָ֑ם וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ מחצצרים מַחְצְרִ֣ים נֶגְדָּ֔ם וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עֹמְדִֽים׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayeqadּe֣shsh shshelomo֗h 'et-tּ֤oke heֽchatzer֙ 'ashsher֙ lipene֣y beyt-yehva֔h kּiֽy-'a֤shsah shsham֙ haֽ'ol֔ot ve'e֖t chelebe֣y hashshּelami֑ym kּiֽy-mizebּa֤ch hanּecho֨shshet֙ 'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֣h shshelomo֔h lo֣ yak֗ol lehaki֛yl 'et-ha'ola֥h ve'et-hamּinecha֖h ve'et-hachalabiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Furthermore Solomon consecrated the middle of the court that was in front of the house of the LORD; for there he offered burnt offerings and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat.

וַיְקַדֵּ֣שׁ שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה אֶת־תּ֤וֹךְ הֶֽחָצֵר֙ אֲשֶׁר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י בֵית־יְהוָ֔ה כִּֽי־עָ֤שָׂה שָׁם֙ הָֽעֹל֔וֹת וְאֵ֖ת חֶלְבֵ֣י הַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים כִּֽי־מִזְבַּ֤ח הַנְּחֹ֨שֶׁת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֣ה שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה לֹ֣א יָכ֗וֹל לְהָכִ֛יל אֶת־הָעֹלָ֥ה וְאֶת־הַמִּנְחָ֖ה וְאֶת־הַחֲלָבִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣'ashs shshelomo֣h 'et-he֠chag bּa'e֨t hahi֜y shshibe'a֤t yamiym֙ vekal-yishsera'e֣l 'imּ֔o qaha֖l gּad֣ol me'o֑d milּeb֥o chama֖t 'ad-na֥chal mitzeraֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)At that time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great assembly from the entrance of Hamath to the River of Egypt.

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה אֶת־הֶ֠חָג בָּעֵ֨ת הַהִ֜יא שִׁבְעַ֤ת יָמִים֙ וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל עִמּ֔וֹ קָהָ֖ל גָּד֣וֹל מְאֹ֑ד מִלְּב֥וֹא חֲמָ֖ת עַד־נַ֥חַל מִצְרָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayּa'ashs֛u bּayּ֥om hashshּemiyni֖y 'atza֑ret kּi֣y ׀ chanukּa֣t hamּizebּe֗cha 'ashsu֙ shshibe'a֣t yami֔ym vehecha֖g shshibe'a֥t yamiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And on the eighth day they held a sacred assembly, for they observed the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.

וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֛וּ בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשְּׁמִינִ֖י עֲצָ֑רֶת כִּ֣י ׀ חֲנֻכַּ֣ת הַמִּזְבֵּ֗חַ עָשׂוּ֙ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֔ים וְהֶחָ֖ג שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubey֨om 'eshseri֤ym ushsheloshshah֙ lacho֣deshsh hashshּebiy'i֔y shshilּa֥ch 'et-ha'a֖m le'aholeyhe֑m shsemechiym֙ vet֣obey le֔b 'al-hatּoba֗h 'ashshe֨r 'ashsa֤h yehvah֙ ledavi֣yd velishshelomo֔h uleyishsera'e֖l 'amּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, joyful and glad of heart for the goodness that the LORD had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.

וּבְי֨וֹם עֶשְׂרִ֤ים וּשְׁלֹשָׁה֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י שִׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־הָעָ֖ם לְאָהֳלֵיהֶ֑ם שְׂמֵחִים֙ וְט֣וֹבֵי לֵ֔ב עַל־הַטּוֹבָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לְדָוִ֣יד וְלִשְׁלֹמֹ֔ה וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַמּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayeka֧l shshelomo֛h 'et-bּe֥yt yehva֖h ve'et-bּe֣yt hamּe֑leke ve'e֨t kּal-habּa֜ 'al-le֣b shshelomo֗h la'ashs֧ot bּebeyt-yehva֛h ubebeyt֖o hitzeliֽycha׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD and the king’s palace; and Solomon successfully accomplished all that came into his heart to make in the house of the LORD and in his own palace.

וַיְכַ֧ל שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית יְהוָ֖ה וְאֶת־בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְאֵ֨ת כָּל־הַבָּ֜א עַל־לֵ֣ב שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה לַעֲשׂ֧וֹת בְּבֵית־יְהוָ֛ה וּבְבֵית֖וֹ הִצְלִֽיחַ׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּera֧ yehva֛h 'el-shshelomo֖h bּalּa֑yelah vayּo֣'mer l֗o shshama֨'etּiy֙ 'et-tּepilּate֔ka ubacha֜retּiy bּamּaq֥om hazּe֛h li֖y lebe֥yt zaֽbach׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: "I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.

וַיֵּרָ֧א יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה בַּלָּ֑יְלָה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ שָׁמַ֨עְתִּי֙ אֶת־תְּפִלָּתֶ֔ךָ וּבָחַ֜רְתִּי בַּמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּ֛ה לִ֖י לְבֵ֥ית זָֽבַח׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): he֣n 'eֽ'etzo֤r hashshּama֨yim֙ veloֽ'-yiheye֣h mata֔r vehen-'atzaue֥h 'al-chaga֖b le'ek֣ol ha'a֑retz ve'im-'ashshalּa֥ch dּe֖ber bּe'amּiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people,

הֵ֣ן אֶֽעֱצֹ֤ר הַשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ וְלֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֣ה מָטָ֔ר וְהֵן־אֲצַוֶּ֥ה עַל־חָגָ֖ב לֶאֱכ֣וֹל הָאָ֑רֶץ וְאִם־אֲשַׁלַּ֥ח דֶּ֖בֶר בְּעַמִּֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyikּane'֨u 'amּi֜y 'ashshe֧r niֽqera'-shshemi֣y 'aleyhe֗m veyiֽtepּaֽlelu֙ viֽybaqeshsh֣u pana֔y veyashshu֖bu midּarekeyhe֣m hara'i֑ym va'aniy֙ 'eshshema֣ min-hashshּama֔yim ve'eselach֙ lechatּa'ta֔m ve'erepּa֖ 'et-'aretzaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)if My people who are called by My name [1] will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

וְיִכָּנְע֨וּ עַמִּ֜י אֲשֶׁ֧ר נִֽקְרָא־שְׁמִ֣י עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם וְיִֽתְפַּֽלְלוּ֙ וִֽיבַקְשׁ֣וּ פָנַ֔י וְיָשֻׁ֖בוּ מִדַּרְכֵיהֶ֣ם הָרָעִ֑ים וַאֲנִי֙ אֶשְׁמַ֣ע מִן־הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְאֶסְלַח֙ לְחַטָּאתָ֔ם וְאֶרְפָּ֖א אֶת־אַרְצָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): atּa֗h 'eynay֙ yihey֣u petuch֔ot ve'azena֖y qashshּub֑ot litepilּa֖t hamּaq֥om hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.

עַתָּ֗ה עֵינַי֙ יִהְי֣וּ פְתֻח֔וֹת וְאָזְנַ֖י קַשֻּׁב֑וֹת לִתְפִלַּ֖ת הַמָּק֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֗h bּacha֤retּiy vehiqedּa֨shshetּiy֙ 'et-habּa֣yit hazּe֔h liheyot-shshemi֥y shsha֖m 'ad-'ola֑m vehay֨u 'eyna֧y velibּi֛y shsha֖m kּal-hayּamiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.

וְעַתָּ֗ה בָּחַ֤רְתִּי וְהִקְדַּ֨שְׁתִּי֙ אֶת־הַבַּ֣יִת הַזֶּ֔ה לִהְיוֹת־שְׁמִ֥י שָׁ֖ם עַד־עוֹלָ֑ם וְהָי֨וּ עֵינַ֧י וְלִבִּ֛י שָׁ֖ם כָּל־הַיָּמִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֞h 'im-tּele֣ke lepana֗y kּa'ashshe֤r halake֙ dּavi֣yd 'abi֔yka vela'ashs֕ot kּeko֖l 'ashshe֣r tziuiyti֑yka vechuqּa֥y umishshepּata֖y tּishshemֽor׃

Edified Edition (EDE)As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgements,

וְאַתָּ֞ה אִם־תֵּלֵ֣ךְ לְפָנַ֗י כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר הָלַךְ֙ דָּוִ֣יד אָבִ֔יךָ וְלַעֲשׂ֕וֹת כְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֑יךָ וְחֻקַּ֥י וּמִשְׁפָּטַ֖י תִּשְׁמֽוֹר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vahaqi֣ymoti֔y 'e֖t kּisּe֣ malekute֑ka kּa'ashshe֣r kּara֗tּiy ledavi֤yd 'abi֨yka֙ le'mo֔r loֽ'-yikּare֤t leka֙ 'i֔yshsh moshshe֖l bּeyishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, as I disciplined with David your father, saying, 'You shall not fail to have a man as ruler in Israel.'

וַהֲקִ֣ימוֹתִ֔י אֵ֖ת כִּסֵּ֣א מַלְכוּתֶ֑ךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּרַ֗תִּי לְדָוִ֤יד אָבִ֨יךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹֽא־יִכָּרֵ֤ת לְךָ֙ אִ֔ישׁ מוֹשֵׁ֖ל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-tּeshshub֣un 'atּe֔m va'azabetּem֙ chuqּota֣y umitzevota֔y 'ashshe֥r nata֖tּiy lipeneyke֑m vahalaketּe֗m va'abadetּem֙ 'elohi֣ym 'acheri֔ym vehishshetּachaviyte֖m laheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,

וְאִם־תְּשׁוּב֣וּן אַתֶּ֔ם וַעֲזַבְתֶּם֙ חֻקּוֹתַ֣י וּמִצְוֺתַ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לִפְנֵיכֶ֑ם וַהֲלַכְתֶּ֗ם וַעֲבַדְתֶּם֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶ֖ם לָהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): unetashshetּi֗ym me'a֤l 'adematiy֙ 'ashshe֣r nata֣tּiy lahe֔m ve'et-habּa֤yit hazּeh֙ 'ashshe֣r hiqedּa֣shshetּiy lishshemi֔y 'ashsheli֖yke me'a֣l pּana֑y ve'etּene֛nּu lemashsha֥l velishsheniyna֖h bּekal-ha'amּiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)then I will uproot them from My land which I have given them; and this house which I have sanctified for My name I will cast out of My sight, and will make it a proverb and a byword among all nations.

וּנְתַשְׁתִּ֗ים מֵעַ֤ל אַדְמָתִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָתַ֣תִּי לָהֶ֔ם וְאֶת־הַבַּ֤יִת הַזֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִקְדַּ֣שְׁתִּי לִשְׁמִ֔י אַשְׁלִ֖יךְ מֵעַ֣ל פָּנָ֑י וְאֶתְּנֶ֛נּוּ לְמָשָׁ֥ל וְלִשְׁנִינָ֖ה בְּכָל־הָעַמִּֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehabּa֤yit hazּeh֙ 'ashshe֣r haya֣h 'eley֔on lekal-'obe֥r 'ala֖yv yishshּo֑m ve'ama֗r bּamּe֨h 'ashsa֤h yehvah֙ kּa֔kah la'a֥retz hazּo֖'t velabּa֥yit hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this land and this house?'

וְהַבַּ֤יִת הַזֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֣ה עֶלְי֔וֹן לְכָל־עֹבֵ֥ר עָלָ֖יו יִשֹּׁ֑ם וְאָמַ֗ר בַּמֶּ֨ה עָשָׂ֤ה יְהוָה֙ כָּ֔כָה לָאָ֥רֶץ הַזֹּ֖את וְלַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'amer֗u 'al֩ 'ashshe֨r 'aֽzeb֜u 'et-yehva֣h ׀ 'elohe֣y 'aboteyhe֗m 'ashshe֣r hotziy'am֮ me'e֣retz mitzerayim֒ vaֽyּachazi֨yqu֙ bּe'lohi֣ym 'acheri֔ym vayּishshetּachav֥u lahe֖m vayּaֽ'abed֑um 'al-kּen֙ hebi֣y 'aleyhe֔m 'e֥t kּal-hara'a֖h hazּoֽ't׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Then they will answer, 'Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshipped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this calamity on them.' "

וְאָמְר֗וּ עַל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָֽזְב֜וּ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה ׀ אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבֹתֵיהֶ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר הוֹצִיאָם֮ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַיִם֒ וַֽיַּחֲזִ֨יקוּ֙ בֵּאלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲו֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם וַיַּֽעַבְד֑וּם עַל־כֵּן֙ הֵבִ֣יא עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֥ת כָּל־הָרָעָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃פ
