Chapter 24
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeyama֣yv 'ala֔h nebukadene'tzּa֖r me֣leke bּabe֑l vayehiy-l֨o yehoyaqi֥ym 'e֨bed֙ shshalo֣shsh shshani֔ym vayּa֖shshab vayּimerad-bּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years; then he turned and rebelled against him.

בְּיָמָ֣יו עָלָ֔ה נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּ֖ר מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֑ל וַיְהִי־ל֨וֹ יְהוֹיָקִ֥ים עֶ֨בֶד֙ שָׁלֹ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֔ים וַיָּ֖שָׁב וַיִּמְרָד־בּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayeshshalּa֣ch yehva֣h ׀ bּ֡o 'et-gּedude֣y kashsedּiym֩ ve'et-gּedude֨y 'ara֜m ve'e֣t ׀ gּedude֣y mo'a֗b ve'et֙ gּedude֣y beneֽy-'amּ֔on vayeshshalּeche֥m bּiֽyhuda֖h lehaֽ'abiyd֑o kּideba֣r yehva֔h 'ashshe֣r dּibּe֔r bּeya֖d 'abada֥yv hanּebiy'iֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD sent against him raiding bands of Chaldeans, bands of Syrians, bands of Moabites, and bands of the people of Ammon; He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD which He had spoken by His servants the prophets.

וַיְשַׁלַּ֣ח יְהוָ֣ה ׀ בּ֡וֹ אֶת־גְּדוּדֵ֣י כַשְׂדִּים֩ וְאֶת־גְּדוּדֵ֨י אֲרָ֜ם וְאֵ֣ת ׀ גְּדוּדֵ֣י מוֹאָ֗ב וְאֵת֙ גְּדוּדֵ֣י בְנֵֽי־עַמּ֔וֹן וַיְשַׁלְּחֵ֥ם בִּֽיהוּדָ֖ה לְהַֽאֲבִיד֑וֹ כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֔ר בְּיַ֖ד עֲבָדָ֥יו הַנְּבִיאִֽים׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֣ke ׀ 'al-pּi֣y yehva֗h haֽyetah֙ bּiֽyhuda֔h lehasi֖yr me'a֣l pּana֑yv bּechatּo֣'t menashshּe֔h kּeko֖l 'ashshe֥r 'ashsaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Surely at the commandment of the LORD this came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done,

אַ֣ךְ ׀ עַל־פִּ֣י יְהוָ֗ה הָֽיְתָה֙ בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה לְהָסִ֖יר מֵעַ֣ל פָּנָ֑יו בְּחַטֹּ֣את מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה כְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vega֤m dּaֽm-hanּaqiy֙ 'ashshe֣r shshapa֔ke vayemalּe֥ 'et-yerushshala֖im dּa֣m naqi֑y veloֽ'-'aba֥h yehva֖h liseloֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And also because of the innocent blood that he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which the LORD would not pardon.

וְגַ֤ם דַּֽם־הַנָּקִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁפָ֔ךְ וַיְמַלֵּ֥א אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם דָּ֣ם נָקִ֑י וְלֹֽא־אָבָ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה לִסְלֹֽחַ׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): veye֛ter dּibere֥y yehoyaqi֖ym vekal-'ashshe֣r 'ashsa֑h halo'-he֣m kּetubi֗ym 'al-se֛per dּibere֥y hayּami֖ym lemaleke֥y yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

וְיֶ֛תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י יְהוֹיָקִ֖ים וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה הֲלֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshekּa֥b yehoyaqi֖ym 'im-'abota֑yv vayּimelo֛ke yehoyaki֥yn bּen֖o tּachetּaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Jehoiakim rested with his fathers. Then Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב יְהוֹיָקִ֖ים עִם־אֲבֹתָ֑יו וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ יְהוֹיָכִ֥ין בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-hosi֥yp 'od֙ me֣leke mitzera֔yim latze֖'t meֽ'aretz֑o kּiֽy-laqa֞ch me֣leke bּabe֗l minּa֤chal mitzera֨yim֙ 'ad-nehar-pּera֔t kּo֛l 'ashshe֥r hayeta֖h leme֥leke mitzeraֽyim׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)And the king of Egypt did not come out of his land anymore, for the king of Babylon had taken everything from the Brook of Egypt to the River Euphrates that belonged to the king of Egypt.

וְלֹֽא־הֹסִ֥יף עוֹד֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם לָצֵ֖את מֵֽאַרְצ֑וֹ כִּֽי־לָקַ֞ח מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֗ל מִנַּ֤חַל מִצְרַ֨יִם֙ עַד־נְהַר־פְּרָ֔ת כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיְתָ֖ה לְמֶ֥לֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם׃פ

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּen-shshemone֨h 'eshsere֤h shshanah֙ yehoyaki֣yn bּemalek֔o ushsheloshsha֣h chodashshi֔ym mala֖ke bּiyrushshala֑im veshshe֣m 'imּ֔o nechushshetּa֥ bat-'elenata֖n miyrushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

בֶּן־שְׁמֹנֶ֨ה עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה שָׁנָה֙ יְהוֹיָכִ֣ין בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ וּשְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה חֳדָשִׁ֔ים מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ נְחֻשְׁתָּ֥א בַת־אֶלְנָתָ֖ן מִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥'ashs hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h kּeko֥l 'ashsher-'ashsa֖h 'abiֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father had done.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֖ה אָבִֽיו׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּa'e֣t hahi֔y 'lh 'al֗u 'abede֛y nebukadene'tzּa֥r meֽleke-bּabe֖l yerushshala֑im vatּabo֥ ha'i֖yr bּamּatzֽor׃
Edified Edition (EDE)At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged.

בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔יא עלה עָל֗וּ עַבְדֵ֛י נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּ֥ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וַתָּבֹ֥א הָעִ֖יר בַּמָּצֽוֹר׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֛ nebukadene'tzּa֥r meֽleke-bּabe֖l 'al-ha'i֑yr va'abada֖yv tzari֥ym 'aleֽyha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city while his servants were besieging it.

וַיָּבֹ֛א נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּ֥ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל עַל־הָעִ֑יר וַעֲבָדָ֖יו צָרִ֥ים עָלֶֽיהָ׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze֞ yehoyaki֤yn meֽleke-yehudah֙ 'al-me֣leke bּabe֔l h֣u ve'imּ֔o va'abada֖yv veshsara֣yv vesaֽriysa֑yv vayּiqּa֤ch 'oto֙ me֣leke bּabe֔l bּishshena֥t shshemone֖h lemalekֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers went out to the king of Babylon; and the king of Babylon, in the eighth year of his reign, took him prisoner.

וַיֵּצֵ֞א יְהוֹיָכִ֤ין מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה֙ עַל־מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל ה֣וּא וְאִמּ֔וֹ וַעֲבָדָ֖יו וְשָׂרָ֣יו וְסָֽרִיסָ֑יו וַיִּקַּ֤ח אֹתוֹ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל בִּשְׁנַ֥ת שְׁמֹנֶ֖ה לְמָלְכֽוֹ׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּotze֣ mishshּa֗m 'et-kּal-'otzerot֙ bּe֣yt yehva֔h ve'ֽotzer֖ot bּe֣yt hamּe֑leke vayeqatzּe֞tz 'et-kּal-kּele֣y hazּaha֗b 'ashshe֨r 'ashsa֜h shshelomo֤h meֽleke-yishsera'el֙ bּeheyka֣l yehva֔h kּaֽ'ashshe֖r dּibּe֥r yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And he carried out from there all the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king’s house, and he cut in pieces all the articles of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the LORD, as the LORD had said.

וַיּוֹצֵ֣א מִשָּׁ֗ם אֶת־כָּל־אוֹצְרוֹת֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וְאֽוֹצְר֖וֹת בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיְקַצֵּ֞ץ אֶת־כָּל־כְּלֵ֣י הַזָּהָ֗ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֜ה שְׁלֹמֹ֤ה מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּהֵיכַ֣ל יְהוָ֔ה כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehigela֣h 'et-kּal-ye֠rushshalaim veֽ'et-kּal-hashsּari֞ym ve'e֣t ׀ kּal-gּibּore֣y hacha֗yil 'shrh 'ashse֤ret 'alapiym֙ gּole֔h vekal-hechara֖shsh vehamּasegּe֑r lo֣ nishshe'a֔r zula֖t dּalּa֥t 'am-ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Also he carried into exile all Jerusalem: all the captains and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths. None remained except the poorest people of the land.

וְהִגְלָ֣ה אֶת־כָּל־יְ֠רוּשָׁלִַם וְֽאֶת־כָּל־הַשָּׂרִ֞ים וְאֵ֣ת ׀ כָּל־גִּבּוֹרֵ֣י הַחַ֗יִל עשרה עֲשֶׂ֤רֶת אֲלָפִים֙ גּוֹלֶ֔ה וְכָל־הֶחָרָ֖שׁ וְהַמַּסְגֵּ֑ר לֹ֣א נִשְׁאַ֔ר זוּלַ֖ת דַּלַּ֥ת עַם־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֥gel 'et-yehoyaki֖yn bּabe֑lah ve'et-'e֣m ha֠mּeleke ve'et-neshshe֨y hamּe֜leke ve'et-sariysa֗yv ve'et֙ 'vly 'eyle֣y ha'a֔retz holi֛yke gּola֥h miyrushshala֖im bּabeֽlah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And he carried Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. The king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.

וַיֶּ֥גֶל אֶת־יְהוֹיָכִ֖ין בָּבֶ֑לָה וְאֶת־אֵ֣ם הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ וְאֶת־נְשֵׁ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ וְאֶת־סָרִיסָ֗יו וְאֵת֙ אולי אֵילֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ הוֹלִ֛יךְ גּוֹלָ֥ה מִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בָּבֶֽלָה׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et֩ kּal-'aneshshe֨y hacha֜yil shshibe'a֣t 'alapi֗ym vehechara֤shsh vehamּasegּer֙ 'e֔lep hakּo֕l gּibּori֖ym 'oshse֣y milechama֑h vayebiy'e֧m meֽleke-bּabe֛l gּola֖h bּabeֽlah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)All the valiant men, seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths, one thousand, all who were strong and fit for war, these the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

וְאֵת֩ כָּל־אַנְשֵׁ֨י הַחַ֜יִל שִׁבְעַ֣ת אֲלָפִ֗ים וְהֶחָרָ֤שׁ וְהַמַּסְגֵּר֙ אֶ֔לֶף הַכֹּ֕ל גִּבּוֹרִ֖ים עֹשֵׂ֣י מִלְחָמָ֑ה וַיְבִיאֵ֧ם מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֛ל גּוֹלָ֖ה בָּבֶֽלָה׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּamele֧ke meֽleke-bּabe֛l 'et-matּaneya֥h dod֖o tּachetּa֑yv vayּasּe֥b 'et-shshem֖o tzideqiyּaֽhu׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

וַיַּמְלֵ֧ךְ מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֛ל אֶת־מַתַּנְיָ֥ה דֹד֖וֹ תַּחְתָּ֑יו וַיַּסֵּ֥ב אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ צִדְקִיָּֽהוּ׃פ

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּen-'eshseri֨ym ve'acha֤t shshanah֙ tzideqiyּa֣hu bemalek֔o ve'acha֤t 'eshsereh֙ shshana֔h mala֖ke bּiyrushshala֑im veshshe֣m 'imּ֔o chmytl chamuta֥l bּaֽt-yiremeya֖hu milּibenaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

בֶּן־עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְאַחַ֤ת שָׁנָה֙ צִדְקִיָּ֣הוּ בְמָלְכ֔וֹ וְאַחַ֤ת עֶשְׂרֵה֙ שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ חמיטל חֲמוּטַ֥ל בַּֽת־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ מִלִּבְנָֽה׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥'ashs hara֖ bּe'eyne֣y yehva֑h kּeko֥l 'ashsher-'ashsa֖h yehoyaqiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He also did evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֖ה יְהוֹיָקִֽים׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y ׀ 'al-'a֣p yehva֗h hayeta֤h biyrushshalai֨m֙ ubi֣yhuda֔h 'ad-hishshelik֥o 'ota֖m me'a֣l pּana֑yv vayּimero֥d tzideqiyּa֖hu bּeme֥leke bּabeֽl׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)For because of the anger of the LORD this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He finally cast them out from His presence. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

כִּ֣י ׀ עַל־אַ֣ף יְהוָ֗ה הָיְתָ֤ה בִירוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ וּבִ֣יהוּדָ֔ה עַד־הִשְׁלִכ֥וֹ אֹתָ֖ם מֵעַ֣ל פָּנָ֑יו וַיִּמְרֹ֥ד צִדְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּמֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶֽל׃ס
