Chapter 25
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehiy֩ bishshena֨t hatּeshshiy'i֜yt lemalek֗o bּacho֣deshsh ha'ashsiyriy֮ bּe'ashs֣or lachodeshsh֒ bּa֠ nebukadene'tzּa֨r meֽleke-bּabe֜l h֧u vekal-cheyl֛o 'al-yerushshala֖im vayּi֣chan 'ale֑yha vayּiben֥u 'ale֖yha dּaye֥q sabiֽyb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and encamped against it; and they built a siege wall against it all around.

וַיְהִי֩ בִשְׁנַ֨ת הַתְּשִׁיעִ֜ית לְמָלְכ֗וֹ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָעֲשִׂירִי֮ בֶּעָשׂ֣וֹר לַחֹדֶשׁ֒ בָּ֠א נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּ֨ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֜ל ה֧וּא וְכָל־חֵיל֛וֹ עַל־יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם וַיִּ֣חַן עָלֶ֑יהָ וַיִּבְנ֥וּ עָלֶ֖יהָ דָּיֵ֥ק סָבִֽיב׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּabo֥ ha'i֖yr bּamּatz֑or 'a֚d 'ashshetּe֣y 'eshsere֣h shshana֔h lamּe֖leke tzideqiyּaֽhu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

וַתָּבֹ֥א הָעִ֖יר בַּמָּצ֑וֹר עַ֚ד עַשְׁתֵּ֣י עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּֽהוּ׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּetishshe'a֣h lacho֔deshsh vayּecheza֥q hara'a֖b bּa'i֑yr velo'-ha֥yah le֖chem le'a֥m ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.

בְּתִשְׁעָ֣ה לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ וַיֶּחֱזַ֥ק הָרָעָ֖ב בָּעִ֑יר וְלֹא־הָ֥יָה לֶ֖חֶם לְעַ֥ם הָאָֽרֶץ׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּibּaqa֣ ha'i֗yr vekal-'aneshshe֨y hamּilechama֤h ׀ halּa֨yelah֙ dּe֜reke shsha֣'ar ׀ bּe֣yn hachomota֗yim 'ashsher֙ 'al-gּa֣n hamּe֔leke vekashsedּi֥ym 'al-ha'i֖yr sabi֑yb vayּe֖leke dּe֥reke ha'arabaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the city wall was breached, and all the men of war fled at night by way of the gate between two walls, which was by the king’s garden, even though the Chaldeans were still surrounding the city. And the king went by way of the plain.

וַתִּבָּקַ֣ע הָעִ֗יר וְכָל־אַנְשֵׁ֨י הַמִּלְחָמָ֤ה ׀ הַלַּ֨יְלָה֙ דֶּ֜רֶךְ שַׁ֣עַר ׀ בֵּ֣ין הַחֹמֹתַ֗יִם אֲשֶׁר֙ עַל־גַּ֣ן הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְכַשְׂדִּ֥ים עַל־הָעִ֖יר סָבִ֑יב וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ דֶּ֥רֶךְ הָעֲרָבָֽה׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiredּep֤u cheyl-kּashsedּiym֙ 'acha֣r hamּe֔leke vayּashsּi֥gu 'ot֖o bּe'areb֣ot yerech֑o vekal-cheyl֔o napo֖tzu me'alaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and they overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his army was scattered from him.

וַיִּרְדְּפ֤וּ חֵיל־כַּשְׂדִּים֙ אַחַ֣ר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיַּשִּׂ֥גוּ אֹת֖וֹ בְּעַרְב֣וֹת יְרֵח֑וֹ וְכָל־חֵיל֔וֹ נָפֹ֖צוּ מֵעָלָֽיו׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּitepּeshsu֙ 'et-hamּe֔leke vayּa'al֥u 'ot֛o 'el-me֥leke bּabe֖l ribela֑tah vayedabּer֥u 'itּ֖o mishshepּaֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So they took the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, and they pronounced judgement on him.

וַֽיִּתְפְּשׂוּ֙ אֶת־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיַּעֲל֥וּ אֹת֛וֹ אֶל־מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל רִבְלָ֑תָה וַיְדַבְּר֥וּ אִתּ֖וֹ מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-bּeney֙ tzideqiyּa֔hu shshachat֖u le'eyna֑yv ve'et-'eyne֤y tzideqiyּa֨hu֙ 'iue֔r vayּa'asere֨hu֙ baֽnechushshetּa֔yim vayebi'e֖hu bּabeֽl׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, put out the eyes of Zedekiah, bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

וְאֶת־בְּנֵי֙ צִדְקִיָּ֔הוּ שָׁחֲט֖וּ לְעֵינָ֑יו וְאֶת־עֵינֵ֤י צִדְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ עִוֵּ֔ר וַיַּאַסְרֵ֨הוּ֙ בַֽנְחֻשְׁתַּ֔יִם וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ בָּבֶֽל׃ס

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubacho֤deshsh hֽachamiyshshiy֙ bּeshshibe'a֣h lacho֔deshsh hi֗y shshenat֙ tּeshshaֽ'-'eshsere֣h shshana֔h lamּe֖leke nebukadene'tzּa֣r meֽleke-bּabe֑l bּa֞ nebuzare'ada֧n rab-tabּachi֛ym 'e֥bed meֽleke-bּabe֖l yerushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month (which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.

וּבַחֹ֤דֶשׁ הַֽחֲמִישִׁי֙ בְּשִׁבְעָ֣ה לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ הִ֗יא שְׁנַת֙ תְּשַֽׁע־עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּ֣ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֑ל בָּ֞א נְבוּזַרְאֲדָ֧ן רַב־טַבָּחִ֛ים עֶ֥בֶד מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsero֥p 'et-bּeyt-yehva֖h ve'et-bּe֣yt hamּe֑leke ve'e֨t kּal-bּatּe֧y yerushshala֛im ve'et-kּal-bּe֥yt gּad֖ol shsara֥p bּa'eֽshsh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He burned the house of the LORD and the king's house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, he burned with fire.

וַיִּשְׂרֹ֥ף אֶת־בֵּית־יְהוָ֖ה וְאֶת־בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְאֵ֨ת כָּל־בָּתֵּ֧י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֛ם וְאֶת־כָּל־בֵּ֥ית גָּד֖וֹל שָׂרַ֥ף בָּאֵֽשׁ׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-chomo֥t yerushshala֖im sabi֑yb naֽtetzu֙ kּal-che֣yl kּashsedּi֔ym 'ashshe֖r rab-tabּachiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And all the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard broke down the walls of Jerusalem all around.

וְאֶת־חוֹמֹ֥ת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם סָבִ֑יב נָֽתְצוּ֙ כָּל־חֵ֣יל כַּשְׂדִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר רַב־טַבָּחִֽים׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et֩ ye֨ter ha'a֜m hanּishshe'ari֣ym bּa'i֗yr ve'et-hanּoֽpeliym֙ 'ashshe֤r napelu֙ 'al-hamּe֣leke bּabe֔l ve'e֖t ye֣ter heham֑on hegela֕h nebuzare'ada֖n rab-tabּachiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive the rest of the people who remained in the city and the defectors who had deserted to the king of Babylon, with the rest of the multitude.

וְאֵת֩ יֶ֨תֶר הָעָ֜ם הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֣ים בָּעִ֗יר וְאֶת־הַנֹּֽפְלִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נָפְלוּ֙ עַל־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל וְאֵ֖ת יֶ֣תֶר הֶהָמ֑וֹן הֶגְלָ֕ה נְבוּזַרְאֲדָ֖ן רַב־טַבָּחִֽים׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): umidּalּa֣t ha'a֔retz hishshe'i֖yr rab-tabּachi֑ym lekoֽremi֖ym uleyogebiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But the captain of the guard left some of the poor of the land as vinedressers and farmers.

וּמִדַּלַּ֣ת הָאָ֔רֶץ הִשְׁאִ֖יר רַב־טַבָּחִ֑ים לְכֹֽרְמִ֖ים וּלְיֹגְבִֽים׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-'amּude֨y hanּecho֜shshet 'ashshe֣r bּeyt-yehva֗h veֽ'et-hamּekon֞ot ve'et-ya֧m hanּecho֛shshet 'ashshe֥r bּebeyt-yehva֖h shshibּer֣u kashsedּi֑ym vayּishse'֥u 'et-nechushshetּa֖m bּabeֽlah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The bronze pillars that were in the house of the LORD, and the stands and the bronze Sea that were in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans broke in pieces, and carried their bronze to Babylon.

וְאֶת־עַמּוּדֵ֨י הַנְּחֹ֜שֶׁת אֲשֶׁ֣ר בֵּית־יְהוָ֗ה וְֽאֶת־הַמְּכֹנ֞וֹת וְאֶת־יָ֧ם הַנְּחֹ֛שֶׁת אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּבֵית־יְהוָ֖ה שִׁבְּר֣וּ כַשְׂדִּ֑ים וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ אֶת־נְחֻשְׁתָּ֖ם בָּבֶֽלָה׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-hasּiyro֨t ve'et-hayּa'i֜ym ve'et-haֽmezamּer֣ot ve'et-hakּapּ֗ot ve'e֨t kּal-kּele֧y hanּecho֛shshet 'ashshe֥r yeshshaֽretu-ba֖m laqaֽchu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They also took away the pots, the shovels, the snuffers, the spoons, and all the bronze utensils with which the priests ministered.

וְאֶת־הַסִּירֹ֨ת וְאֶת־הַיָּעִ֜ים וְאֶת־הַֽמְזַמְּר֣וֹת וְאֶת־הַכַּפּ֗וֹת וְאֵ֨ת כָּל־כְּלֵ֧י הַנְּחֹ֛שֶׁת אֲשֶׁ֥ר יְשָֽׁרְתוּ־בָ֖ם לָקָֽחוּ׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-hamּachetּot֙ ve'et-hamּizeraq֗ot 'ashshe֤r zahab֙ zaha֔b va'ashsher-kּe֖sep kּa֑sep laqa֖ch rab-tabּachiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The firepans and the basins, things of solid gold and solid silver, the captain of the guard took away.

וְאֶת־הַמַּחְתּוֹת֙ וְאֶת־הַמִּזְרָק֗וֹת אֲשֶׁ֤ר זָהָב֙ זָהָ֔ב וַאֲשֶׁר־כֶּ֖סֶף כָּ֑סֶף לָקַ֖ח רַב־טַבָּחִֽים׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): ha'amּudi֣ym ׀ shshena֗yim hayּa֤m haֽ'echad֙ vehamּekon֔ot 'ashsher-'ashsa֥h shshelomo֖h lebe֣yt yehva֑h lo'-haya֣h mishsheqa֔l linecho֖shshet kּal-hakּeli֥ym ha'eֽlּeh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The two pillars, the one Sea, and the stands which Solomon had made for the house of the LORD, the bronze of all these articles was beyond weight.

הָעַמּוּדִ֣ים ׀ שְׁנַ֗יִם הַיָּ֤ם הָֽאֶחָד֙ וְהַמְּכֹנ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה לֹא־הָיָ֣ה מִשְׁקָ֔ל לִנְחֹ֖שֶׁת כָּל־הַכֵּלִ֥ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshemoneh֩ 'eshsere֨h 'amּa֜h qoma֣t ׀ ha'amּ֣ud ha'echa֗d vekote֨ret 'ala֥yv ׀ nechoshshet֮ veqoma֣t hakּoteret֮ shshalo֣shsh 'mh 'amּot֒ ushsebaka֨h verimּoni֧ym 'aֽl-hakּote֛ret sabi֖yb hakּo֣l necho֑shshet veka'e֛lּeh laֽ'amּ֥ud hashshּeni֖y 'al-hashsּebakaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, and the capital on it was bronze. The height of the capital was three cubits, and the network and pomegranates all around the capital were all of bronze. The second pillar was the same, with a network.

שְׁמֹנֶה֩ עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה אַמָּ֜ה קוֹמַ֣ת ׀ הָעַמּ֣וּד הָאֶחָ֗ד וְכֹתֶ֨רֶת עָלָ֥יו ׀ נְחֹשֶׁת֮ וְקוֹמַ֣ת הַכֹּתֶרֶת֮ שָׁלֹ֣שׁ אמה אַמּוֹת֒ וּשְׂבָכָ֨ה וְרִמֹּנִ֧ים עַֽל־הַכֹּתֶ֛רֶת סָבִ֖יב הַכֹּ֣ל נְחֹ֑שֶׁת וְכָאֵ֛לֶּה לַֽעַמּ֥וּד הַשֵּׁנִ֖י עַל־הַשְּׂבָכָֽה׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּa֣ch rab-tabּachi֗ym 'et-shserayah֙ kּohe֣n haro֔'shsh ve'et-tzepaneya֖hu kּohe֣n mishshene֑h ve'et-shshelo֖shshet shshomere֥y hasּaֽp׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the second priest, and the three doorkeepers.

וַיִּקַּ֣ח רַב־טַבָּחִ֗ים אֶת־שְׂרָיָה֙ כֹּהֵ֣ן הָרֹ֔אשׁ וְאֶת־צְפַנְיָ֖הוּ כֹּהֵ֣ן מִשְׁנֶ֑ה וְאֶת־שְׁלֹ֖שֶׁת שֹׁמְרֵ֥י הַסַּֽף׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): umin-ha'i֡yr laqach֩ sari֨ys 'echa֜d 'aֽshsher-h֥u paqi֣yd ׀ 'al-'aneshshe֣y hamּilechama֗h vachamishshּa֨h 'anashshi֜ym mero'e֤y peneֽy-hamּe֨leke֙ 'ashshe֣r nimetze'֣u ba'i֔yr ve'e֗t hasּoper֙ shsa֣r hatzּaba֔ hamּatzebּi֖ 'et-'a֣m ha'a֑retz veshshishshּi֥ym 'iyshsh֙ me'a֣m ha'a֔retz haֽnּimetze'i֖ym bּa'iֽyr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He also took out of the city an officer who had charge of the men of war, five men of the king’s close advisors who were found in the city, the principal scribe of the army who mustered the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the city.

וּמִן־הָעִ֡יר לָקַח֩ סָרִ֨יס אֶחָ֜ד אֲֽשֶׁר־ה֥וּא פָקִ֣יד ׀ עַל־אַנְשֵׁ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וַחֲמִשָּׁ֨ה אֲנָשִׁ֜ים מֵרֹאֵ֤י פְנֵֽי־הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִמְצְא֣וּ בָעִ֔יר וְאֵ֗ת הַסֹּפֵר֙ שַׂ֣ר הַצָּבָ֔א הַמַּצְבִּ֖א אֶת־עַ֣ם הָאָ֑רֶץ וְשִׁשִּׁ֥ים אִישׁ֙ מֵעַ֣ם הָאָ֔רֶץ הַֽנִּמְצְאִ֖ים בָּעִֽיר׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּa֣ch 'ota֔m nebuzare'ada֖n rab-tabּachi֑ym vayּo֧leke 'ota֛m 'al-me֥leke bּabe֖l ribelaֽtah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, took these and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.

וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֹתָ֔ם נְבוּזַרְאֲדָ֖ן רַב־טַבָּחִ֑ים וַיֹּ֧לֶךְ אֹתָ֛ם עַל־מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל רִבְלָֽתָה׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣ke 'otam֩ me֨leke bּabe֧l vayemiyte֛m bּeribela֖h bּe'e֣retz chama֑t vayּi֥gel yehuda֖h me'a֥l 'adematֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king of Babylon struck them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive from its own land.

וַיַּ֣ךְ אֹתָם֩ מֶ֨לֶךְ בָּבֶ֧ל וַיְמִיתֵ֛ם בְּרִבְלָ֖ה בְּאֶ֣רֶץ חֲמָ֑ת וַיִּ֥גֶל יְהוּדָ֖ה מֵעַ֥ל אַדְמָתֽוֹ׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'a֗m hanּishshe'ar֙ bּe'e֣retz yehuda֔h 'ashshe֣r hishshe'i֔yr nebֽukadene'tzּa֖r me֣leke bּabe֑l vayּapeqe֣d 'aleyhe֔m 'et-gּedaleya֖hu bּen-'achiyqa֥m bּen-shshapaֽn׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, governor over the people who remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left.

וְהָעָ֗ם הַנִּשְׁאָר֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ יְהוּדָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִשְׁאִ֔יר נְבֽוּכַדְנֶאצַּ֖ר מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֑ל וַיַּפְקֵ֣ד עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֥ם בֶּן־שָׁפָֽן׃פ

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsheme'u֩ kal-shsare֨y hachayali֜ym he֣mּah veha'anashshi֗ym kּiֽy-hipeqi֤yd meֽleke-bּabel֙ 'et-gּedaleya֔hu vayּabo֥'u 'el-gּedaleya֖hu hamּitzepּa֑h veyishshema'e֣'l bּen-netaneya֡h veyochana֣n bּen-qa֠recha ushseraya֨h ben-tּanechu֜met hanּetopati֗y veyaֽ'azaneya֨hu֙ bּen-hamּa֣'akati֔y he֖mּah ve'aneshsheyheֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when all the captains of the armies, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Kareah, Seraiah the son of TanhumS the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ֩ כָל־שָׂרֵ֨י הַחֲיָלִ֜ים הֵ֣מָּה וְהָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים כִּֽי־הִפְקִ֤יד מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶל֙ אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֔הוּ וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ הַמִּצְפָּ֑ה וְיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֡ה וְיוֹחָנָ֣ן בֶּן־קָ֠רֵחַ וּשְׂרָיָ֨ה בֶן־תַּנְחֻ֜מֶת הַנְּטֹפָתִ֗י וְיַֽאֲזַנְיָ֨הוּ֙ בֶּן־הַמַּ֣עֲכָתִ֔י הֵ֖מָּה וְאַנְשֵׁיהֶֽם׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshּaba֨ lahe֤m gּedaleya֨hu֙ ule'aneshsheyhe֔m vayּo֣'mer lahe֔m 'al-tּiֽyre'֖u me'abede֣y hakּashsedּi֑ym shsheb֣u ba'a֗retz ve'ibed֛u 'et-me֥leke bּabe֖l veyita֥b lakeֽm׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)And Gedaliah took an oath with them and their men, and said to them, "Do not be afraid of the servants of the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you."

וַיִּשָּׁבַ֨ע לָהֶ֤ם גְּדַלְיָ֨הוּ֙ וּלְאַנְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם אַל־תִּֽירְא֖וּ מֵעַבְדֵ֣י הַכַּשְׂדִּ֑ים שְׁב֣וּ בָאָ֗רֶץ וְעִבְד֛וּ אֶת־מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל וְיִטַ֥ב לָכֶֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y ׀ bּacho֣deshsh hashshּebiy'i֗y bּa֣ yishshema'e֣'l bּen-ne֠taneyah bּen-'eli֨yshshama֜ mizּe֣ra hamּeluka֗h va'ashsara֤h 'anashshiym֙ 'itּ֔o vayּakּ֥u 'et-gּedaleya֖hu vayּamo֑t ve'et-hayּehudiym֙ ve'et-hakּashsedּi֔ym 'ashsher-hay֥u 'itּ֖o bּamּitzepּaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But it happened in the seventh month that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck and killed Gedaliah, and the Jews and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah.

וַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י בָּ֣א יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְ֠תַנְיָה בֶּן־אֱלִ֨ישָׁמָ֜ע מִזֶּ֣רַע הַמְּלוּכָ֗ה וַעֲשָׂרָ֤ה אֲנָשִׁים֙ אִתּ֔וֹ וַיַּכּ֥וּ אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ וַיָּמֹ֑ת וְאֶת־הַיְּהוּדִים֙ וְאֶת־הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־הָי֥וּ אִתּ֖וֹ בַּמִּצְפָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּaqu֨mu kal-ha'a֜m miqּato֤n ve'ad-gּadol֙ veshsare֣y hachayali֔ym vayּabo֖'u mitzera֑yim kּi֥y yare'֖u mipּene֥y kashsedּiֽym׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)And all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose and went to Egypt; for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.

וַיָּקֻ֨מוּ כָל־הָעָ֜ם מִקָּטֹ֤ן וְעַד־גָּדוֹל֙ וְשָׂרֵ֣י הַחֲיָלִ֔ים וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ מִצְרָ֑יִם כִּ֥י יָרְא֖וּ מִפְּנֵ֥י כַשְׂדִּֽים׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehiy֩ bishsheloshshi֨ym vashshe֜ba shshana֗h legalut֙ yehoyaki֣yn meֽleke-yehuda֔h bּishshene֤ym 'ashsar֙ cho֔deshsh bּe'eshseri֥ym veshshibe'a֖h lacho֑deshsh nashsa֡ 'evi֣yl merodake֩ me֨leke bּabe֜l bּishshena֣t malek֗o 'et-ro֛'shsh yehoyaki֥yn meֽleke-yehuda֖h mibּe֥yt kּeֽle'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison.

וַיְהִי֩ בִשְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים וָשֶׁ֜בַע שָׁנָ֗ה לְגָלוּת֙ יְהוֹיָכִ֣ין מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֔ה בִּשְׁנֵ֤ים עָשָׂר֙ חֹ֔דֶשׁ בְּעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָ֖ה לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ נָשָׂ֡א אֱוִ֣יל מְרֹדַךְ֩ מֶ֨לֶךְ בָּבֶ֜ל בִּשְׁנַ֣ת מָלְכ֗וֹ אֶת־רֹ֛אשׁ יְהוֹיָכִ֥ין מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֖ה מִבֵּ֥ית כֶּֽלֶא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r 'itּ֖o tob֑ot vayּitּen֙ 'et-kּise'֔o me'a֗l kּisּe֧ hamּelaki֛ym 'ashshe֥r 'itּ֖o bּebabeֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He spoke kindly to him and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon.

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אִתּ֖וֹ טֹב֑וֹת וַיִּתֵּן֙ אֶת־כִּסְא֔וֹ מֵעַ֗ל כִּסֵּ֧א הַמְּלָכִ֛ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּ֖וֹ בְּבָבֶֽל׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshinּa֕ 'e֖t bּigede֣y kile'֑o ve'aka֨l le֧chem tּami֛yd lepana֖yv kּal-yeme֥y chayּaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life.

וְשִׁנָּ֕א אֵ֖ת בִּגְדֵ֣י כִלְא֑וֹ וְאָכַ֨ל לֶ֧חֶם תָּמִ֛יד לְפָנָ֖יו כָּל־יְמֵ֥י חַיָּֽיו׃

30
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'aruchat֗o 'arucha֨t tּami֧yd nitּenah-lּ֛o me'e֥t hamּe֖leke dּebar-y֣om bּeyom֑o kּo֖l yeme֥y chayּaֽv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And as for his allowance, there was a regular allowance given him by the king, a portion for each day, all the days of his life.

וַאֲרֻחָת֗וֹ אֲרֻחַ֨ת תָּמִ֧יד נִתְּנָה־לּ֛וֹ מֵאֵ֥ת הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ דְּבַר־י֣וֹם בְּיוֹמ֑וֹ כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֥י חַיָּֽו׃
