Chapter 9
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'eliyshsha'֙ hanּabi֔y qara֕ le'acha֖d mibּene֣y hanּebiy'i֑ym vayּo֨'mer l֜o chago֣r matene֗yka ve֠qach pּa֣ke hashshּe֤men hazּeh֙ bּeyade֔ka vele֖ke ramo֥t gּile'aֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company of the prophets and said to him, 'Tuck your cloak into your belt, take this flask of olive oil with you and go to Ramoth Gilead.'

וֶאֱלִישָׁע֙ הַנָּבִ֔יא קָרָ֕א לְאַחַ֖ד מִבְּנֵ֣י הַנְּבִיאִ֑ים וַיֹּ֨אמֶר ל֜וֹ חֲגֹ֣ר מָתְנֶ֗יךָ וְ֠קַח פַּ֣ךְ הַשֶּׁ֤מֶן הַזֶּה֙ בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ וְלֵ֖ךְ רָמֹ֥ת גִּלְעָֽד׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): uba֖'ta shsha֑mּah ure'eֽh-shsha֠m yeh֨u ben-yehoshshapa֜t bּen-nimeshshi֗y uba֨'ta֙ vahaqeֽmoto֙ mitּ֣ok 'echa֔yv vehebey'ta֥ 'ot֖o che֥der bּechaֽder׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room.'

וּבָ֖אתָ שָׁ֑מָּה וּרְאֵֽה־שָׁ֠ם יֵה֨וּא בֶן־יְהוֹשָׁפָ֜ט בֶּן־נִמְשִׁ֗י וּבָ֨אתָ֙ וַהֲקֵֽמֹתוֹ֙ מִתּ֣וֹך אֶחָ֔יו וְהֵבֵיאתָ֥ אֹת֖וֹ חֶ֥דֶר בְּחָֽדֶר׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): velaqachetּa֤ pake-hashshּe֨men֙ veyatzaqetּa֣ 'al-ro'shsh֔o ve'aֽmaretּa֙ kּoֽh-'ama֣r yehva֔h meshshachetּi֥ykaֽ leme֖leke 'el-yishsera'e֑l upatachetּa֥ hadּe֛let vena֖setּah velo֥ techakּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head and declare, "This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel." Then open the door and run; don’t delay!'

וְלָקַחְתָּ֤ פַךְ־הַשֶּׁ֨מֶן֙ וְיָצַקְתָּ֣ עַל־רֹאשׁ֔וֹ וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֙ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה מְשַׁחְתִּ֥יךָֽ לְמֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וּפָתַחְתָּ֥ הַדֶּ֛לֶת וְנַ֖סְתָּה וְלֹ֥א תְחַכֶּֽה׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֧leke hanּa֛'ar hanּa֥'ar hanּabi֖y ramo֥t gּile'aֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead.

וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ הַנַּ֛עַר הַנַּ֥עַר הַנָּבִ֖יא רָמֹ֥ת גִּלְעָֽד׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֗ vehinּe֨h shsare֤y hacha֨yil֙ yoֽshshebi֔ym vayּo֕'mer dּaba֥r li֛y 'ele֖yka hashsּa֑r vayּo֤'mer yehu'֙ 'el-mi֣y mikּulּa֔nu vayּo֖'mer 'ele֥yka hashsּaֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. 'I have a message for you, commander,' he said. 'For which of us?' asked Jehu. 'For you, commander,' he replied.

וַיָּבֹ֗א וְהִנֵּ֨ה שָׂרֵ֤י הַחַ֨יִל֙ יֹֽשְׁבִ֔ים וַיֹּ֕אמֶר דָּבָ֥ר לִ֛י אֵלֶ֖יךָ הַשָּׂ֑ר וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יֵהוּא֙ אֶל־מִ֣י מִכֻּלָּ֔נוּ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלֶ֥יךָ הַשָּֽׂר׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨qam֙ vayּabo֣ habּa֔yetah vayּitzo֥q hashshּe֖men 'el-ro'shsh֑o vayּo֣'mer l֗o kּoֽh-'ama֤r yehvah֙ 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֔l meshshachetּi֧ykaֽ leme֛leke 'el-'a֥m yehva֖h 'el-yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil on Jehu’s head and declared, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: "I anoint you king over the LORD’s people Israel."'

וַיָּ֨קָם֙ וַיָּבֹ֣א הַבַּ֔יְתָה וַיִּצֹ֥ק הַשֶּׁ֖מֶן אֶל־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מְשַׁחְתִּ֧יךָֽ לְמֶ֛לֶךְ אֶל־עַ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehi֨kּiyta֔h 'et-bּe֥yt 'ache'a֖b 'adone֑yka veniqּametּi֞y dּeme֣y ׀ 'abada֣y hanּebiy'i֗ym udeme֛y kּal-'abede֥y yehva֖h miyּa֥d 'iyzaֽbel׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'"You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the LORD’s servants shed by Jezebel."'

וְהִ֨כִּיתָ֔ה אֶת־בֵּ֥ית אַחְאָ֖ב אֲדֹנֶ֑יךָ וְנִקַּמְתִּ֞י דְּמֵ֣י ׀ עֲבָדַ֣י הַנְּבִיאִ֗ים וּדְמֵ֛י כָּל־עַבְדֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה מִיַּ֥ד אִיזָֽבֶל׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'aba֖d kּal-bּe֣yt 'ache'a֑b vehikeratּi֤y le'ache'ab֙ mashshetּi֣yn bּeqi֔yr ve'atz֥ur ve'az֖ub bּeyishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'"The whole house of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel, slave or free."'

וְאָבַ֖ד כָּל־בֵּ֣ית אַחְאָ֑ב וְהִכְרַתִּ֤י לְאַחְאָב֙ מַשְׁתִּ֣ין בְּקִ֔יר וְעָצ֥וּר וְעָז֖וּב בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): venaֽtatּiy֙ 'et-bּe֣yt 'ache'a֔b kּebe֖yt yarabe'a֣m bּen-neba֑t ukebe֖yt bּa'eshsha֥ ben-'achiyּaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'"I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah."'

וְנָֽתַתִּי֙ אֶת־בֵּ֣ית אַחְאָ֔ב כְּבֵ֖ית יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־נְבָ֑ט וּכְבֵ֖ית בַּעְשָׁ֥א בֶן־אֲחִיָּֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-'iyze֜bel yo'kel֧u hakּelabi֛ym bּeche֥leq yizere'e֖'l ve'e֣yn qobe֑r vayּipetּa֥ch hadּe֖let vayּanoֽs׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'"As for Jezebel, dogs will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her."' Then he opened the door and ran.

וְאֶת־אִיזֶ֜בֶל יֹאכְל֧וּ הַכְּלָבִ֛ים בְּחֵ֥לֶק יִזְרְעֶ֖אל וְאֵ֣ין קֹבֵ֑ר וַיִּפְתַּ֥ח הַדֶּ֖לֶת וַיָּנֹֽס׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): veyeh֗u yatza'֙ 'el-'abede֣y 'adona֔yv vayּo֤'mer lo֙ hashshal֔om madּ֛u'a bּaֽ'-hameshshugּa֥ hazּe֖h 'ele֑yka vayּo֣'mer 'aleyhe֔m 'atּe֛m yeda'etּe֥m 'et-ha'i֖yshsh ve'et-shsiychֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, 'Is everything all right? Why did this maniac come to you?' 'You know the man and the sort of things he says,' Jehu replied.

וְיֵה֗וּא יָצָא֙ אֶל־עַבְדֵ֣י אֲדֹנָ֔יו וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ הֲשָׁל֔וֹם מַדּ֛וּעַ בָּֽא־הַמְשֻׁגָּ֥ע הַזֶּ֖ה אֵלֶ֑יךָ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אַתֶּ֛ם יְדַעְתֶּ֥ם אֶת־הָאִ֖ישׁ וְאֶת־שִׂיחֽוֹ׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'mer֣u shshe֔qer hagּed-na֖ la֑nu vayּo֗'mer kּazo֤'t vekazo't֙ 'ama֤r 'elay֙ le'mo֔r kּo֚h 'ama֣r yehva֔h meshshachetּi֥ykaֽ leme֖leke 'el-yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'That’s not true!' they said. 'Tell us.' Jehu said, 'Here is what he told me: "This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel."'

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ שֶׁ֔קֶר הַגֶּד־נָ֖א לָ֑נוּ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר כָּזֹ֤את וְכָזֹאת֙ אָמַ֤ר אֵלַי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה מְשַׁחְתִּ֥יךָֽ לְמֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyemahar֗u vayּiqechu֙ 'i֣yshsh bּiged֔o vayּashsi֥ymu tachetּa֖yv 'el-gּe֣rem haֽmּa'al֑ot vaֽyּiteqe'u֙ bּashshּopa֔r vayּo'mer֖u mala֥ke yehֽu'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They quickly took their cloaks and spread them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet and shouted, 'Jehu is king!'

וַֽיְמַהֲר֗וּ וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ בִּגְד֔וֹ וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ תַחְתָּ֖יו אֶל־גֶּ֣רֶם הַֽמַּעֲל֑וֹת וַֽיִּתְקְעוּ֙ בַּשּׁוֹפָ֔ר וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ מָלַ֥ךְ יֵהֽוּא׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiteqashshּe֗r yeh֛u bּen-yehoshshapa֥t bּen-nimeshshi֖y 'el-yora֑m veyoram֩ haya֨h shshome֜r bּeramo֣t gּile'a֗d h֚u vekal-yishsera'e֔l mipּene֥y chaza'e֖l meֽleke-'araֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth Gilead against Hazael king of Aram,

וַיִּתְקַשֵּׁ֗ר יֵה֛וּא בֶּן־יְהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט בֶּן־נִמְשִׁ֖י אֶל־יוֹרָ֑ם וְיוֹרָם֩ הָיָ֨ה שֹׁמֵ֜ר בְּרָמֹ֣ת גִּלְעָ֗ד ה֚וּא וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִפְּנֵ֥י חֲזָאֵ֖ל מֶֽלֶךְ־אֲרָֽם׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashshab֩ yehora֨m hamּe֜leke lehiterapּe֣ biyezere'e֗'l min-hamּakּiym֙ 'ashshe֣r yakּu֣hu 'aramּi֔ym bּehilּa֣cham֔o 'et-chaza'e֖l me֣leke 'ara֑m vayּo֤'mer yehu'֙ 'im-ye֣shsh napeshsheke֔m 'al-yetze֤ paliyt֙ min-ha'i֔yr lale֖ket lgyd lehagּi֥yd bּeyizere'eֽ'l׃
Edified Edition (EDE)but King Joram had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, 'If you are with me, don’t let anyone slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel.'

וַיָּשָׁב֩ יְהוֹרָ֨ם הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ לְהִתְרַפֵּ֣א בִיְזְרְעֶ֗אל מִן־הַמַּכִּים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יַכֻּ֣הוּ אֲרַמִּ֔ים בְּהִלָּ֣חֲמ֔וֹ אֶת־חֲזָאֵ֖ל מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֑ם וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יֵהוּא֙ אִם־יֵ֣שׁ נַפְשְׁכֶ֔ם אַל־יֵצֵ֤א פָלִיט֙ מִן־הָעִ֔יר לָלֶ֖כֶת לגיד לְהַגִּ֥יד בְּיִזְרְעֶֽאל׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּirekּa֤b yehu'֙ vayּe֣leke yizere'e֔'lah kּi֥y yora֖m shshoke֣b shsha֑mּah vֽa'achazeyah֙ me֣leke yehuda֔h yara֖d lire'֥ot 'et-yoraֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah king of Judah had gone down to see him.

וַיִּרְכַּ֤ב יֵהוּא֙ וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ יִזְרְעֶ֔אלָה כִּ֥י יוֹרָ֖ם שֹׁכֵ֣ב שָׁ֑מָּה וַֽאֲחַזְיָה֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה יָרַ֖ד לִרְא֥וֹת אֶת־יוֹרָֽם׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehatzּopeh֩ 'ome֨d 'aֽl-hamּigedּa֜l bּeyizere'e֗'l vayּa֞re 'et-shshipe'a֤t yehu'֙ bּebo'֔o vayּo֕'mer shshipe'a֖t 'ani֣y ro'e֑h vayּo֣'mer yehora֗m qa֥ch rakּa֛b uֽshshela֥ch liqera'ta֖m veyo'ma֥r hashshalֽom׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the watchman standing on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu’s troops approaching, he called out, 'I see some troops coming.' 'Get a horseman,' Joram ordered. 'Send him to meet them and ask, "Do you come in peace?"'

וְהַצֹּפֶה֩ עֹמֵ֨ד עַֽל־הַמִּגְדָּ֜ל בְּיִזְרְעֶ֗אל וַיַּ֞רְא אֶת־שִׁפְעַ֤ת יֵהוּא֙ בְּבֹא֔וֹ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר שִׁפְעַ֖ת אֲנִ֣י רֹאֶ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוֹרָ֗ם קַ֥ח רַכָּ֛ב וּֽשְׁלַ֥ח לִקְרָאתָ֖ם וְיֹאמַ֥ר הֲשָׁלֽוֹם׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּeleke֩ roke֨b hasּ֜us liqera't֗o vayּo֨'mer֙ kּoֽh-'ama֤r hamּe֨leke֙ hashshal֔om vayּo֧'mer yeh֛u mah-lּeka֥ uleshshal֖om so֣b 'eֽl-'achara֑y vayּagּe֤d hatzּopeh֙ le'mo֔r bּaֽ'-hamּale'a֥ke 'ad-he֖m veloֽ'-shshaֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The horseman rode out to meet Jehu and said, 'This is what the king asks: "Do you come in peace?"' 'What do you have to do with peace?' Jehu replied. 'Fall in behind me.' The watchman reported, 'The messenger has reached them, but he isn’t coming back.'

וַיֵּלֶךְ֩ רֹכֵ֨ב הַסּ֜וּס לִקְרָאת֗וֹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ הֲשָׁל֔וֹם וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יֵה֛וּא מַה־לְּךָ֥ וּלְשָׁל֖וֹם סֹ֣ב אֶֽל־אַחֲרָ֑י וַיַּגֵּ֤ד הַצֹּפֶה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בָּֽא־הַמַּלְאָ֥ךְ עַד־הֵ֖ם וְלֹֽא־שָֽׁב׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshela֗ch roke֣b sus֮ shsheniy֒ vayּabo֣ 'alehe֔m vayּo֛'mer kּoֽh-'ama֥r hamּe֖leke shshal֑om vayּo֧'mer yeh֛u mah-lּeka֥ uleshshal֖om so֥b 'eֽl-'acharaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them he said, 'This is what the king asks: "Do you come in peace?"' Jehu replied, 'What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.'

וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח רֹכֵ֣ב סוּס֮ שֵׁנִי֒ וַיָּבֹ֣א אֲלֵהֶ֔ם וַיֹּ֛אמֶר כֹּֽה־אָמַ֥ר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ שָׁל֑וֹם וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יֵה֛וּא מַה־לְּךָ֥ וּלְשָׁל֖וֹם סֹ֥ב אֶֽל־אַחֲרָֽי׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּagּe֤d hatzּopeh֙ le'mo֔r bּa֥ 'ad-'aleyhe֖m veloֽ'-shsha֑b vehamּineha֗g kּeminehag֙ yeh֣u ben-nimeshshi֔y kּi֥y beshshigּa'֖on yinehaֽg׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The watchman reported, 'He has reached them, but he is not coming back either. The driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi, he drives like a maniac.'

וַיַּגֵּ֤ד הַצֹּפֶה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר בָּ֥א עַד־אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם וְלֹֽא־שָׁ֑ב וְהַמִּנְהָ֗ג כְּמִנְהַג֙ יֵה֣וּא בֶן־נִמְשִׁ֔י כִּ֥י בְשִׁגָּע֖וֹן יִנְהָֽג׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehoram֙ 'eso֔r vayּe'eso֖r rikebּ֑o vayּetze֣ yehora֣m meֽleke-yi֠shsera'el va'achazeya֨hu meֽleke-yehuda֜h 'i֣yshsh bּerikebּ֗o vayּeֽtze'u֙ liqera֣'t yeh֔u vayּimetza'u֔hu bּecheleqa֖t nab֥ot hayּizere'e'liֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'Get my chariot ready,' Joram ordered. And when it was ready, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah rode out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They met him at the plot of ground that had belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוֹרָם֙ אֱסֹ֔ר וַיֶּאְסֹ֖ר רִכְבּ֑וֹ וַיֵּצֵ֣א יְהוֹרָ֣ם מֶֽלֶךְ־יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל וַאֲחַזְיָ֨הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֜ה אִ֣ישׁ בְּרִכְבּ֗וֹ וַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙ לִקְרַ֣את יֵה֔וּא וַיִּמְצָאֻ֔הוּ בְּחֶלְקַ֖ת נָב֥וֹת הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִֽי׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֗y kּire'֤ot yehoram֙ 'et-yeh֔u vayּo֖'mer hashshal֣om yeh֑u vayּo֨'mer֙ ma֣h hashshּal֔om 'ad-zenune֞y 'iyze֧bel 'imּeka֛ ukeshshape֖yha harabּiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Joram saw Jehu he asked, 'Have you come in peace, Jehu?' 'How can there be peace,' Jehu replied, 'as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel abound?'

וַיְהִ֗י כִּרְא֤וֹת יְהוֹרָם֙ אֶת־יֵה֔וּא וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הֲשָׁל֣וֹם יֵה֑וּא וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ מָ֣ה הַשָּׁל֔וֹם עַד־זְנוּנֵ֞י אִיזֶ֧בֶל אִמְּךָ֛ וּכְשָׁפֶ֖יהָ הָרַבִּֽים׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּahapo֧ke yehora֛m yada֖yv vayּano֑s vayּo֥'mer 'el-'achazeya֖hu mirema֥h 'achazeyaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Joram turned his horses around and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, 'Treachery, Ahaziah!'

וַיַּהֲפֹ֧ךְ יְהוֹרָ֛ם יָדָ֖יו וַיָּנֹ֑ס וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־אֲחַזְיָ֖הוּ מִרְמָ֥ה אֲחַזְיָֽה׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): veyeh֞u milּe֧ yad֣o baqּe֗shshet vayּa֤ke 'et-yehoram֙ bּe֣yn zero'a֔yv vayּetze֥ hache֖tziy milּibּ֑o vayּikera֖ bּerikebּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart and he slumped down in his chariot.

וְיֵה֞וּא מִלֵּ֧א יָד֣וֹ בַקֶּ֗שֶׁת וַיַּ֤ךְ אֶת־יְהוֹרָם֙ בֵּ֣ין זְרֹעָ֔יו וַיֵּצֵ֥א הַחֵ֖צִי מִלִּבּ֑וֹ וַיִּכְרַ֖ע בְּרִכְבּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֗'mer 'el-bּideqar֙ shlshh shshaֽlishsh֔o shsa֚ hashshelike֔hu bּecheleqa֕t shsede֖h nab֣ot hayּizere'e'li֑y kּiֽy-zeko֞r 'ani֣y va'a֗tּah 'e֣t rokebi֤ym tzemadiym֙ 'aֽcharey֙ 'ache'a֣b 'abi֔yv vaֽyhvah֙ nashsa֣ 'ala֔yv 'et-hamּashsּa֖ hazּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Jehu said to Bidkar, his chariot officer, 'Pick him up and throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Ahab his father when the LORD spoke this prophecy against him:'

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֶל־בִּדְקַר֙ שלשה שָֽׁלִשׁ֔וֹ שָׂ֚א הַשְׁלִכֵ֔הוּ בְּחֶלְקַ֕ת שְׂדֵ֖ה נָב֣וֹת הַיִּזְרְעֵאלִ֑י כִּֽי־זְכֹ֞ר אֲנִ֣י וָאַ֗תָּה אֵ֣ת רֹכְבִ֤ים צְמָדִים֙ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ אַחְאָ֣ב אָבִ֔יו וַֽיהוָה֙ נָשָׂ֣א עָלָ֔יו אֶת־הַמַּשָּׂ֖א הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): im-lo֡ 'et-dּeme֣y nabot֩ ve'et-dּeme֨y bana֜yv ra'i֤ytiy 'e֨meshsh֙ ne'um-yehva֔h veshshilּametּi֥y leka֛ bּacheleqa֥h hazּo֖'t ne'um-yehva֑h ve'atּa֗h shsa֧ hashshelike֛hu bּacheleqa֖h kּideba֥r yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'"Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, declares the LORD, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the LORD." Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the LORD.'

אִם־לֹ֡א אֶת־דְּמֵ֣י נָבוֹת֩ וְאֶת־דְּמֵ֨י בָנָ֜יו רָאִ֤יתִי אֶ֨מֶשׁ֙ נְאֻם־יְהוָ֔ה וְשִׁלַּמְתִּ֥י לְךָ֛ בַּחֶלְקָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את נְאֻם־יְהוָ֑ה וְעַתָּ֗ה שָׂ֧א הַשְׁלִכֵ֛הוּ בַּחֶלְקָ֖ה כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'achazeya֤h meֽleke-yehudah֙ ra'a֔h vayּa֕nas dּe֖reke bּe֣yt hagּa֑n vayּiredּo֨p 'achara֜yv yeh֗u va֠yּo'mer gּam-'ot֞o hakּu֣hu 'el-hamּerekּaba֗h bּemaֽ'aleh-gur֙ 'ashshe֣r 'eֽt-yibele'a֔m vayּa֥nas megidּ֖o vayּa֥mat shshaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road toward Beth Haggan. Jehu chased him, shouting, 'Kill him too!' They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam, but he escaped to Megiddo and died there.

וַאֲחַזְיָ֤ה מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה֙ רָאָ֔ה וַיָּ֕נָס דֶּ֖רֶךְ בֵּ֣ית הַגָּ֑ן וַיִּרְדֹּ֨ף אַחֲרָ֜יו יֵה֗וּא וַ֠יֹּאמֶר גַּם־אֹת֞וֹ הַכֻּ֣הוּ אֶל־הַמֶּרְכָּבָ֗ה בְּמַֽעֲלֵה־גוּר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶֽת־יִבְלְעָ֔ם וַיָּ֥נָס מְגִדּ֖וֹ וַיָּ֥מָת שָֽׁם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּarekּi֧bu 'ot֛o 'abada֖yv yerushshala֑emah vayּiqebּer֨u 'ot֧o biqeburat֛o 'im-'abota֖yv bּe'i֥yr dּaviֽd׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)His servants carried him by chariot to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David.

וַיַּרְכִּ֧בוּ אֹת֛וֹ עֲבָדָ֖יו יְרוּשָׁלְָ֑מָה וַיִּקְבְּר֨וּ אֹת֧וֹ בִקְבֻרָת֛וֹ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֖יו בְּעִ֥יר דָּוִֽד׃פ

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubishshenat֙ 'acha֣t 'eshsere֣h shshana֔h leyora֖m bּen-'ache'a֑b mala֥ke 'achazeya֖h 'al-yehudaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)(In the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.)

וּבִשְׁנַת֙ אַחַ֣ת עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה לְיוֹרָ֖ם בֶּן־אַחְאָ֑ב מָלַ֥ךְ אֲחַזְיָ֖ה עַל־יְהוּדָֽה׃

30
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּab֥o yeh֖u yizere'e֑'lah ve'iyze֣bel shshame'a֗h vatּa֨shsem bּapּ֤uke 'eyne֨yha֙ vatּe֣yteb 'et-ro'shsha֔hּ vatּashsheqe֖p bּe'a֥d hachalּֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she painted her eyes, arranged her hair and looked out of a window.

וַיָּב֥וֹא יֵה֖וּא יִזְרְעֶ֑אלָה וְאִיזֶ֣בֶל שָׁמְעָ֗ה וַתָּ֨שֶׂם בַּפּ֤וּךְ עֵינֶ֨יהָ֙ וַתֵּ֣יטֶב אֶת־רֹאשָׁ֔הּ וַתַּשְׁקֵ֖ף בְּעַ֥ד הַחַלּֽוֹן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyeh֖u bּa֣ bashshּa֑'ar vatּo֣'mer hashshal֔om zimeri֖y hore֥g 'adonaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, 'Have you come in peace, you Zimri, you murderer of your master?'

וְיֵה֖וּא בָּ֣א בַשָּׁ֑עַר וַתֹּ֣אמֶר הֲשָׁל֔וֹם זִמְרִ֖י הֹרֵ֥ג אֲדֹנָֽיו׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa֤ panayv֙ 'el-ha֣chalּ֔on vayּo֕'mer mi֥y 'itּi֖y mi֑y vayּashsheqi֣ypu 'ela֔yv shshena֥yim shsheloshsha֖h sariysiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He looked up at the window and shouted, 'Who is on my side? Who?' Two or three eunuchs looked down at him.

וַיִּשָּׂ֤א פָנָיו֙ אֶל־הַ֣חַלּ֔וֹן וַיֹּ֕אמֶר מִ֥י אִתִּ֖י מִ֑י וַיַּשְׁקִ֣יפוּ אֵלָ֔יו שְׁנַ֥יִם שְׁלֹשָׁ֖ה סָרִיסִֽים׃

33
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֥'mer shmthv shshimet֖uha vaֽyּishshemet֑uha vayּi֨z midּama֧hּ 'el-haqּi֛yr ve'el-hasּusi֖ym vaֽyּiremeseֽnּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'Throw her down!' Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר שמטהו שִׁמְט֖וּהָ וַֽיִּשְׁמְט֑וּהָ וַיִּ֨ז מִדָּמָ֧הּ אֶל־הַקִּ֛יר וְאֶל־הַסּוּסִ֖ים וַֽיִּרְמְסֶֽנָּה׃

34
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֖ vayּo֣'kal vayּe֑shshetּe vayּo֗'mer pּiqedu-na֞ 'et-ha'arura֤h hazּo't֙ veqiber֔uha kּi֥y bat-me֖leke hiֽy'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Jehu went in and ate and drank. 'Take care of that cursed woman,' he said, 'and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.'

וַיָּבֹ֖א וַיֹּ֣אכַל וַיֵּ֑שְׁתְּ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר פִּקְדוּ־נָ֞א אֶת־הָאֲרוּרָ֤ה הַזֹּאת֙ וְקִבְר֔וּהָ כִּ֥י בַת־מֶ֖לֶךְ הִֽיא׃

35
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּelek֖u leqabera֑hּ velo'-ma֣tze'u ba֗hּ kּi֧y 'im-hagּulegּo֛let veharagela֖yim vekapּ֥ot hayּadaֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands.

וַיֵּלְכ֖וּ לְקָבְרָ֑הּ וְלֹא־מָ֣צְאוּ בָ֗הּ כִּ֧י אִם־הַגֻּלְגֹּ֛לֶת וְהָרַגְלַ֖יִם וְכַפּ֥וֹת הַיָּדָֽיִם׃

36
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashshubu֮ vayּagּi֣ydu lo֒ vayּo֨'mer֙ dּebar-yehva֣h h֔u 'ashshe֣r dּibּe֗r bּeyad-'abedּ֛o 'eliyּa֥hu hatּishshebּi֖y le'mo֑r bּeche֣leq yizere'e֔'l yo'kel֥u hakּelabi֖ym 'et-bּeshsa֥r 'iyzaֽbel׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They went back and told Jehu, who said, 'This is the word of the LORD that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs will devour Jezebel’s flesh.'

וַיָּשֻׁבוּ֮ וַיַּגִּ֣ידוּ לוֹ֒ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֣ה ה֔וּא אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֗ר בְּיַד־עַבְדּ֛וֹ אֵלִיָּ֥הוּ הַתִּשְׁבִּ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר בְּחֵ֣לֶק יִזְרְעֶ֔אל יֹאכְל֥וּ הַכְּלָבִ֖ים אֶת־בְּשַׂ֥ר אִיזָֽבֶל׃

37
Phonetic (Hebrew): vhyt veֽhayeta֞h nibela֣t 'iyze֗bel kּedo֛men 'al-pּene֥y hashsּade֖h bּeche֣leq yizere'e֑'l 'ashshe֥r loֽ'-yo'mer֖u zo֥'t 'iyzaֽbel׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)'Jezebel’s body will be like dung on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, "This is Jezebel."'

והית וְֽהָיְתָ֞ה נִבְלַ֣ת אִיזֶ֗בֶל כְּדֹ֛מֶן עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה בְּחֵ֣לֶק יִזְרְעֶ֑אל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יֹאמְר֖וּ זֹ֥את אִיזָֽבֶל׃פ
