Chapter 6
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨sep '֥od dּavi֛d 'et-kּal-bּach֥ur bּeyishsera'e֖l shsheloshshi֥ym 'aֽlep׃
Edified Edition (EDE)David again gathered all the elite troops of Israel, thirty thousand in all.

וַיֹּ֨סֶף ע֥וֹד דָּוִ֛ד אֶת־כָּל־בָּח֥וּר בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אָֽלֶף׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣qam ׀ vayּe֣leke dּavi֗d vekal-ha'am֙ 'ashshe֣r 'itּ֔o miֽbּa'ale֖y yehuda֑h leha'al֣ot mishshּa֗m 'e֚t 'ar֣on ha'elohi֔ym 'ashsher-niqera֣ shshe֗m shshe֣m yehva֧h tzeba'֛ot yoshshe֥b hakּerubi֖ym 'alaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He and all his men set out from Baalah in Judah to bring up from there the Ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of the LORD of Armies [1], who is enthroned between the cherubim on the Ark.

וַיָּ֣קָם ׀ וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֗ד וְכָל־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֔וֹ מִֽבַּעֲלֵ֖י יְהוּדָ֑ה לְהַעֲל֣וֹת מִשָּׁ֗ם אֵ֚ת אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־נִקְרָ֣א שֵׁ֗ם שֵׁ֣ם יְהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת יֹשֵׁ֥ב הַכְּרֻבִ֖ים עָלָֽיו׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּarekּi֜bu 'et-'ar֤on haֽ'elohiym֙ 'el-'agala֣h chadashsha֔h vayּishsּa'u֔hu mibּe֥yt 'abiynada֖b 'ashshe֣r bּagּibe'a֑h ve'uzּa֣ ve'achey֗o bּeney֙ 'abi֣ynada֔b nohagi֖ym 'et-ha'agala֥h chadashshaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They set the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart

וַיַּרְכִּ֜בוּ אֶת־אֲר֤וֹן הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־עֲגָלָ֣ה חֲדָשָׁ֔ה וַיִּשָּׂאֻ֔הוּ מִבֵּ֥ית אֲבִינָדָ֖ב אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּגִּבְעָ֑ה וְעֻזָּ֣א וְאַחְי֗וֹ בְּנֵי֙ אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב נֹהֲגִ֖ים אֶת־הָעֲגָלָ֥ה חֲדָשָֽׁה׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa'u֗hu mibּe֤yt 'abiֽynadab֙ 'ashshe֣r bּagּibe'a֔h 'i֖m 'ar֣on ha'elohi֑ym ve'achey֕o hole֖ke lipene֥y ha'arֽon׃
Edified Edition (EDE)with the Ark of God on it, and Ahio was walking in front of it.

וַיִּשָּׂאֻ֗הוּ מִבֵּ֤ית אֲבִֽינָדָב֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּגִּבְעָ֔ה עִ֖ם אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְאַחְי֕וֹ הֹלֵ֖ךְ לִפְנֵ֥י הָאָרֽוֹן׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vedavi֣d ׀ vekal-bּe֣yt yishsera'e֗l meshsaֽchaqiym֙ lipene֣y yehva֔h bּeko֖l 'atze֣y beroshshi֑ym ubekinּor֤ot ubinebaliym֙ ubetupּi֔ym ubimenaֽ'ane'i֖ym uֽbetzeletzeliֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the LORD, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums, and cymbals.

וְדָוִ֣ד ׀ וְכָל־בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל מְשַֽׂחֲקִים֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה בְּכֹ֖ל עֲצֵ֣י בְרוֹשִׁ֑ים וּבְכִנֹּר֤וֹת וּבִנְבָלִים֙ וּבְתֻפִּ֔ים וּבִמְנַֽעַנְעִ֖ים וּֽבְצֶלְצֶלִֽים׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֖'u 'ad-gּo֣ren nak֑on vayּishshela֨ch 'uzּa֜ 'el-'ar֤on haֽ'elohiym֙ vayּo֣'chez bּ֔o kּi֥y shshamet֖u habּaqaֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the Ark of God, because the oxen stumbled.

וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ עַד־גֹּ֣רֶן נָכ֑וֹן וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח עֻזָּ֜א אֶל־אֲר֤וֹן הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ וַיֹּ֣אחֶז בּ֔וֹ כִּ֥י שָׁמְט֖וּ הַבָּקָֽר׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiֽchar-'a֤p yehvah֙ bּe'uzּa֔h vayּakּe֥hu shsha֛m ha'elohi֖ym 'al-hashshּa֑l vayּa֣mat shsha֔m 'i֖m 'ar֥on ha'elohiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the Ark of God.

וַיִּֽחַר־אַ֤ף יְהוָה֙ בְּעֻזָּ֔ה וַיַּכֵּ֥הוּ שָׁ֛ם הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים עַל־הַשַּׁ֑ל וַיָּ֣מָת שָׁ֔ם עִ֖ם אֲר֥וֹן הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֣char ledavi֔d 'al֩ 'ashshe֨r pּara֧tz yehva֛h pּe֖retz bּe'uzּa֑h vayּiqera֞ lamּaq֤om hahu'֙ pּe֣retz 'uzּa֔h 'a֖d hayּ֥om hazּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then David was angry because the LORD’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.

וַיִּ֣חַר לְדָוִ֔ד עַל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר פָּרַ֧ץ יְהוָ֛ה פֶּ֖רֶץ בְּעֻזָּ֑ה וַיִּקְרָ֞א לַמָּק֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ פֶּ֣רֶץ עֻזָּ֔ה עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּira֥ davi֛d 'et-yehva֖h bּayּ֣om hah֑u vayּo֕'mer 'e֛yke yab֥o 'ela֖y 'ar֥on yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, 'How can the Ark of the LORD ever come to me?'

וַיִּרָ֥א דָוִ֛ד אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אֵ֛יךְ יָב֥וֹא אֵלַ֖י אֲר֥וֹן יְהוָֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-'aba֣h davi֗d lehasi֥yr 'ela֛yv 'et-'ar֥on yehva֖h 'al-'i֣yr dּavi֑d vayּatּe֣hu davi֔d bּe֥yt 'obeֽd-'ed֖om hagּitּiֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He was not willing to take the Ark of the LORD to be with him in the City of David [2]. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

וְלֹֽא־אָבָ֣ה דָוִ֗ד לְהָסִ֥יר אֵלָ֛יו אֶת־אֲר֥וֹן יְהוָ֖ה עַל־עִ֣יר דָּוִ֑ד וַיַּטֵּ֣הוּ דָוִ֔ד בֵּ֥ית עֹבֵֽד־אֱד֖וֹם הַגִּתִּֽי׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּeshsheb֩ 'ar֨on yehva֜h bּe֣yt 'obe֥d 'edo֛m hagּitּi֖y shsheloshsha֣h chodashshi֑ym vayeba֧reke yehva֛h 'et-'obe֥d 'edo֖m ve'et-kּal-bּeytֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed him and his entire household.

וַיֵּשֶׁב֩ אֲר֨וֹן יְהוָ֜ה בֵּ֣ית עֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֛ם הַגִּתִּ֖י שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה חֳדָשִׁ֑ים וַיְבָ֧רֶךְ יְהוָ֛ה אֶת־עֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֖ם וְאֶת־כָּל־בֵּיתֽוֹ׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּugּa֗d lamּe֣leke dּavid֮ le'mor֒ bּera֣ke yehva֗h 'et-bּe֨yt 'obe֤d 'edom֙ ve'et-kּal-'ashsher-l֔o bּa'ab֖ur 'ar֣on ha'elohi֑ym vayּe֣leke dּavi֗d vayּa'al֩ 'et-'ar֨on ha'elohi֜ym mibּe֨yt 'obe֥d 'edo֛m 'i֥yr dּavi֖d bּeshsimechaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now King David was told, 'the LORD has blessed the household of Obed-edom and everything he has, because of the Ark of God.' So David went to bring up the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with rejoicing.

וַיֻּגַּ֗ד לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִד֮ לֵאמֹר֒ בֵּרַ֣ךְ יְהוָ֗ה אֶת־בֵּ֨ית עֹבֵ֤ד אֱדֹם֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֔וֹ בַּעֲב֖וּר אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֗ד וַיַּעַל֩ אֶת־אֲר֨וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים מִבֵּ֨ית עֹבֵ֥ד אֱדֹ֛ם עִ֥יר דָּוִ֖ד בְּשִׂמְחָֽה׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֗y kּi֧y tza'ad֛u noshse'e֥y 'aron-yehva֖h shshishshּa֣h tze'adi֑ym vayּizebּa֥ch shsh֖or umeriֽy'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When those who were carrying the Ark of the LORD had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf.

וַיְהִ֗י כִּ֧י צָעֲד֛וּ נֹשְׂאֵ֥י אֲרוֹן־יְהוָ֖ה שִׁשָּׁ֣ה צְעָדִ֑ים וַיִּזְבַּ֥ח שׁ֖וֹר וּמְרִֽיא׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vedavi֛d mekarekּe֥r bּekal-'o֖z lipene֣y yehva֑h vedavi֕d chag֖ur 'ep֥od bּaֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the LORD with all his might,

וְדָוִ֛ד מְכַרְכֵּ֥ר בְּכָל־עֹ֖ז לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְדָוִ֕ד חָג֖וּר אֵפ֥וֹד בָּֽד׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vedavid֙ vekal-bּe֣yt yishsera'e֔l ma'ali֖ym 'et-'ar֣on yehva֑h bּiteru'a֖h ubeq֥ol shshopaֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)while he and all Israel were bringing up the Ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

וְדָוִד֙ וְכָל־בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מַעֲלִ֖ים אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן יְהוָ֑ה בִּתְרוּעָ֖ה וּבְק֥וֹל שׁוֹפָֽר׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehayah֙ 'ar֣on yehva֔h bּa֖ 'i֣yr dּavi֑d umiyka֨l bּat-shsha'֜ul nishsheqepa֣h ׀ bּe'a֣d hachalּ֗on vatּe֨re 'et-hamּe֤leke dּavid֙ mepazּe֤z umekarekּer֙ lipene֣y yehva֔h vatּi֥bez l֖o bּelibּaֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As the Ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart.

וְהָיָה֙ אֲר֣וֹן יְהוָ֔ה בָּ֖א עִ֣יר דָּוִ֑ד וּמִיכַ֨ל בַּת־שָׁא֜וּל נִשְׁקְפָ֣ה ׀ בְּעַ֣ד הַחַלּ֗וֹן וַתֵּ֨רֶא אֶת־הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ דָּוִד֙ מְפַזֵּ֤ז וּמְכַרְכֵּר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַתִּ֥בֶז ל֖וֹ בְּלִבָּֽהּ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabi֜'u 'et-'ar֣on yehva֗h vayּatzּi֤gu 'oto֙ bּimeqom֔o bּet֣oke ha'o֔hel 'ashshe֥r natah-l֖o dּavi֑d vayּa֨'al dּavi֥d 'ol֛ot lipene֥y yehva֖h ushshelamiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They brought the Ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the LORD.

וַיָּבִ֜אוּ אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן יְהוָ֗ה וַיַּצִּ֤גוּ אֹתוֹ֙ בִּמְקוֹמ֔וֹ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָאֹ֔הֶל אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָטָה־ל֖וֹ דָּוִ֑ד וַיַּ֨עַל דָּוִ֥ד עֹל֛וֹת לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה וּשְׁלָמִֽים׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayeka֣l dּavi֔d meha'al֥ot ha'ola֖h vehashshּelami֑ym vayeba֣reke 'et-ha'a֔m bּeshshe֖m yehva֥h tzeba'ֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of Armies.

וַיְכַ֣ל דָּוִ֔ד מֵהַעֲל֥וֹת הָעוֹלָ֖ה וְהַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם בְּשֵׁ֖ם יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayechalּe֨q lekal-ha'a֜m lekal-ham֣on yishsera'el֮ leme'i֣yshsh ve'ad-'ishshּah֒ le'i֗yshsh chalּa֥t le֨chem֙ 'acha֔t ve'eshshepּa֣r 'echa֔d va'ashshiyshsha֖h 'echa֑t vayּe֥leke kּal-ha'a֖m 'i֥yshsh lebeytֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.

וַיְחַלֵּ֨ק לְכָל־הָעָ֜ם לְכָל־הֲמ֣וֹן יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ לְמֵאִ֣ישׁ וְעַד־אִשָּׁה֒ לְאִ֗ישׁ חַלַּ֥ת לֶ֨חֶם֙ אַחַ֔ת וְאֶשְׁפָּ֣ר אֶחָ֔ד וַאֲשִׁישָׁ֖ה אֶחָ֑ת וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ כָּל־הָעָ֖ם אִ֥ישׁ לְבֵיתֽוֹ׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥shshab dּavi֖d lebare֣ke 'et-bּeyt֑o vatּetze֞ miyka֤l bּat-shsha'ul֙ liqera֣'t dּavi֔d vatּo֗'mer mah-nּikebּa֨d hayּ֜om me֣leke yishsera'e֗l 'ashshe֨r nigela֤h hayּom֙ le'eyne֨y 'ameh֣ot 'abada֔yv kּehigּal֥ot nigel֖ot 'acha֥d hareqiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, 'How the king of Israel has honoured himself today, uncovering himself in the sight of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!'

וַיָּ֥שָׁב דָּוִ֖ד לְבָרֵ֣ךְ אֶת־בֵּית֑וֹ וַתֵּצֵ֞א מִיכַ֤ל בַּת־שָׁאוּל֙ לִקְרַ֣את דָּוִ֔ד וַתֹּ֗אמֶר מַה־נִּכְבַּ֨ד הַיּ֜וֹם מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִגְלָ֤ה הַיּוֹם֙ לְעֵינֵ֨י אַמְה֣וֹת עֲבָדָ֔יו כְּהִגָּל֥וֹת נִגְל֖וֹת אַחַ֥ד הָרֵקִֽים׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer dּavid֮ 'el-miykal֒ lipene֣y yehva֗h 'ashshe֨r bּaֽchar-bּi֤y meֽ'abiyke֙ umikּal-bּeyt֔o letzauo֨t 'oti֥y nagi֛yd 'al-'a֥m yehva֖h 'al-yishsera'e֑l veshsichaqetּi֖y lipene֥y yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)David said to Michal, 'It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel, I will celebrate before the LORD.'

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִד֮ אֶל־מִיכַל֒ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר בָּֽחַר־בִּ֤י מֵֽאָבִיךְ֙ וּמִכָּל־בֵּית֔וֹ לְצַוֺּ֨ת אֹתִ֥י נָגִ֛יד עַל־עַ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְשִׂחַקְתִּ֖י לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): uneqalּo֤tiy 'od֙ mizּo֔'t vehayi֥ytiy shshapa֖l bּe'eyna֑y ve'im-haֽ'amahot֙ 'ashshe֣r 'ama֔retּe 'imּa֖m 'ikּabeֽdah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)'I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honour.'

וּנְקַלֹּ֤תִי עוֹד֙ מִזֹּ֔את וְהָיִ֥יתִי שָׁפָ֖ל בְּעֵינָ֑י וְעִם־הָֽאֲמָהוֹת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֔רְתְּ עִמָּ֖ם אִכָּבֵֽדָה׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): ulemiykal֙ bּat-shsha'֔ul loֽ'-ha֥yah la֖hּ ya֑led 'a֖d y֥om motaֽhּ׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.

וּלְמִיכַל֙ בַּת־שָׁא֔וּל לֹֽא־הָ֥יָה לָ֖הּ יָ֑לֶד עַ֖ד י֥וֹם מוֹתָֽהּ׃פ
