Amos

Chapter 6

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֚oy hashshּa'ananּi֣ym bּetziyּ֔on vehabּotechi֖ym bּeha֣r shshomer֑on nequbey֙ re'shshi֣yt hagּoyi֔m uba֥'u lahe֖m bּe֥yt yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

ה֚וֹי הַשַּׁאֲנַנִּ֣ים בְּצִיּ֔וֹן וְהַבֹּטְחִ֖ים בְּהַ֣ר שֹׁמְר֑וֹן נְקֻבֵי֙ רֵאשִׁ֣ית הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וּבָ֥אוּ לָהֶ֖ם בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): iber֤u kaֽleneh֙ ure'֔u ulek֥u mishshּa֖m chama֣t rabּa֑h ured֣u gat-pּelishshetּ֗ym hatobiym֙ min-hamּamelak֣ot ha'e֔lּeh 'im-ra֥b gּebula֖m migּebulekeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Pass you to Calneh, and see; and from thence go you to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

עִבְר֤וּ כַֽלְנֵה֙ וּרְא֔וּ וּלְכ֥וּ מִשָּׁ֖ם חֲמַ֣ת רַבָּ֑ה וּרְד֣וּ גַת־פְּלִשְׁתּ֗ים הֲטוֹבִים֙ מִן־הַמַּמְלָכ֣וֹת הָאֵ֔לֶּה אִם־רַ֥ב גְּבוּלָ֖ם מִגְּבֻלְכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): haֽmenadּi֖ym ley֣om ra֑ vatּagּiyshsh֖un shshe֥bet chamaֽs׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

הַֽמְנַדִּ֖ים לְי֣וֹם רָ֑ע וַתַּגִּישׁ֖וּן שֶׁ֥בֶת חָמָֽס׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hashshּoֽkebiym֙ 'al-mitּ֣ot shshe֔n useruchi֖ym 'al-'areshsota֑m ve'okeli֤ym kּariym֙ mitzּo֔'n va'agali֖ym mitּ֥oke marebּeֽq׃

Edified Edition (EDE)That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

הַשֹּֽׁכְבִים֙ עַל־מִטּ֣וֹת שֵׁ֔ן וּסְרֻחִ֖ים עַל־עַרְשׂוֹתָ֑ם וְאֹכְלִ֤ים כָּרִים֙ מִצֹּ֔אן וַעֲגָלִ֖ים מִתּ֥וֹךְ מַרְבֵּֽק׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hapּoreti֖ym 'al-pּi֣y hanּa֑bel kּedavi֕yd chashsheb֥u lahe֖m kּeley-shshiֽyr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

הַפֹּרְטִ֖ים עַל־פִּ֣י הַנָּ֑בֶל כְּדָוִ֕יד חָשְׁב֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם כְּלֵי־שִֽׁיר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hashshּoti֤ym bּemizereqey֙ ya֔yin vere'shshi֥yt shshemani֖ym yimeshsha֑chu velo֥ nechel֖u 'al-shshe֥ber yoseֽp

Edified Edition (EDE)That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

הַשֹּׁתִ֤ים בְּמִזְרְקֵי֙ יַ֔יִן וְרֵאשִׁ֥ית שְׁמָנִ֖ים יִמְשָׁ֑חוּ וְלֹ֥א נֶחְל֖וּ עַל־שֵׁ֥בֶר יוֹסֵֽף

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֛n 'atּa֥h yigel֖u bּero֣'shsh gּoli֑ym vesa֖r mireza֥ch seruchiֽym׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

לָכֵ֛ן עַתָּ֥ה יִגְל֖וּ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ גֹּלִ֑ים וְסָ֖ר מִרְזַ֥ח סְרוּחִֽים׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): nishshebּa'֩ 'adona֨y yehvi֜h bּenapeshsh֗o ne'um-yehvah֙ 'elohe֣y tzeba'֔ot meta'e֤b 'aֽnokiy֙ 'et-gּe'֣on yaֽ'aqo֔b ve'aremenota֖yv shsane֑'tiy vehisegּaretּi֖y 'i֥yr umelo'aֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The Lord GOD has sworn by Himself, says the LORD the God of hosts, "I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein."

נִשְׁבַּע֩ אֲדֹנָ֨י יְהוִ֜ה בְּנַפְשׁ֗וֹ נְאֻם־יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י צְבָא֔וֹת מְתָאֵ֤ב אָֽנֹכִי֙ אֶת־גְּא֣וֹן יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וְאַרְמְנֹתָ֖יו שָׂנֵ֑אתִי וְהִסְגַּרְתִּ֖י עִ֥יר וּמְלֹאָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֗h 'im-yiua֨ter֜u 'ashsara֧h 'anashshi֛ym bּeba֥yit 'echa֖d vameֽtu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

וְהָיָ֗ה אִם־יִוָּ֨תְר֜וּ עֲשָׂרָ֧ה אֲנָשִׁ֛ים בְּבַ֥יִת אֶחָ֖ד וָמֵֽתוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): uneshsa'֞o dּod֣o umesarep֗o lehotzi֣y 'atzamiym֮ min-habּayit֒ ve'ama֞r la'ashshe֨r bּeyarekּete֥y habּa֛yit ha'֥od 'imּa֖ke ve'ama֣r 'a֑pes ve'ama֣r ha֔s kּi֛y lo֥ lehazekּi֖yr bּeshshe֥m yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burns him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say to him that is by the sides of the house, "Is there yet any with you?" and he shall say, "No." Then shall he say, "Hold your tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD."

וּנְשָׂא֞וֹ דּוֹד֣וֹ וּמְסָרְפ֗וֹ לְהוֹצִ֣יא עֲצָמִים֮ מִן־הַבַּיִת֒ וְאָמַ֞ר לַאֲשֶׁ֨ר בְּיַרְכְּתֵ֥י הַבַּ֛יִת הַע֥וֹד עִמָּ֖ךְ וְאָמַ֣ר אָ֑פֶס וְאָמַ֣ר הָ֔ס כִּ֛י לֹ֥א לְהַזְכִּ֖יר בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-hinּe֤h yehvah֙ metzaue֔h vehikּa֛h habּa֥yit hagּad֖ol resiysi֑ym vehabּa֥yit haqּato֖n bּeqi'iֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For, behold, the LORD commands, and He will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ מְצַוֶּ֔ה וְהִכָּ֛ה הַבַּ֥יִת הַגָּד֖וֹל רְסִיסִ֑ים וְהַבַּ֥יִת הַקָּטֹ֖ן בְּקִעִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hayerutz֤un bּasּe֨la'֙ susi֔ym 'iֽm-yachar֖oshsh bּabּeqari֑ym kּiֽy-hapaketּe֤m lero'shsh֙ mishshepּa֔t uperi֥y tzedaqa֖h lela'anaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for you have turned judgement into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

הַיְרֻצ֤וּן בַּסֶּ֨לַע֙ סוּסִ֔ים אִֽם־יַחֲר֖וֹשׁ בַּבְּקָרִ֑ים כִּֽי־הֲפַכְתֶּ֤ם לְרֹאשׁ֙ מִשְׁפָּ֔ט וּפְרִ֥י צְדָקָ֖ה לְלַעֲנָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hashsּemechi֖ym lelo֣ daba֑r ha'o֣meri֔ym hal֣o bechazeqe֔nu laqa֥chenu la֖nu qarenaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, "Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?"

הַשְּׂמֵחִ֖ים לְלֹ֣א דָבָ֑ר הָאֹ֣מְרִ֔ים הֲל֣וֹא בְחָזְקֵ֔נוּ לָקַ֥חְנוּ לָ֖נוּ קַרְנָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֡y hineniy֩ meqi֨ym 'aleyke֜m bּe֣yt yishsera'e֗l ne'um-yehva֛h 'elohe֥y hatzּeba'֖ot gּ֑oy velachatz֥u 'eteke֛m milּeb֥o chama֖t 'ad-na֥chal ha'arabaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, says the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath to the river of the wilderness.

כִּ֡י הִנְנִי֩ מֵקִ֨ים עֲלֵיכֶ֜ם בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל נְאֻם־יְהוָ֛ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י הַצְּבָא֖וֹת גּ֑וֹי וְלָחֲצ֥וּ אֶתְכֶ֛ם מִלְּב֥וֹא חֲמָ֖ת עַד־נַ֥חַל הָעֲרָבָֽה׃ס
