Chapter 5
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeleshsha'tzּa֣r malekּa֗ 'abad֙ leche֣m ra֔b lerabereban֖ohiy 'ala֑p velaqobe֥l 'alepּa֖ chamera֥ shshateֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.

בֵּלְשַׁאצַּ֣ר מַלְכָּ֗א עֲבַד֙ לְחֶ֣ם רַ֔ב לְרַבְרְבָנ֖וֹהִי אֲלַ֑ף וְלָקֳבֵ֥ל אַלְפָּ֖א חַמְרָ֥א שָׁתֵֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּeleshsha'tzּa֞r 'ama֣r ׀ bּite'e֣m chamera֗ lehayetayah֙ lema'ney֙ dּahaba֣ vekasepּa֔ dּi֤y hanepּeq֙ nebukadenetzּa֣r 'ab֔uhiy min-heykela֖ dּi֣y biyrushshele֑m veyishshetּ֣on bּeh֗on malekּa'֙ verabereban֔ohiy shshegelate֖hּ ulechenateֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.

בֵּלְשַׁאצַּ֞ר אֲמַ֣ר ׀ בִּטְעֵ֣ם חַמְרָ֗א לְהַיְתָיָה֙ לְמָאנֵי֙ דַּהֲבָ֣א וְכַסְפָּ֔א דִּ֤י הַנְפֵּק֙ נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּ֣ר אֲב֔וּהִי מִן־הֵיכְלָ֖א דִּ֣י בִירוּשְׁלֶ֑ם וְיִשְׁתּ֣וֹן בְּה֗וֹן מַלְכָּא֙ וְרַבְרְבָנ֔וֹהִי שֵׁגְלָתֵ֖הּ וּלְחֵנָתֵֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'da֗yin hayetiyv֙ ma'ne֣y dahaba֔ dּi֣y hanepּi֗qu min-heֽykela֛ dּiֽy-be֥yt 'elaha֖ dּi֣y biyrֽushshele֑m ve'ishshetּi֣yv bּeh֗on malekּa'֙ verabereban֔ohiy shshegelate֖hּ ulechenateֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them.

בֵּאדַ֗יִן הַיְתִיו֙ מָאנֵ֣י דַהֲבָ֔א דִּ֣י הַנְפִּ֗קוּ מִן־הֵֽיכְלָ֛א דִּֽי־בֵ֥ית אֱלָהָ֖א דִּ֣י בִירֽוּשְׁלֶ֑ם וְאִשְׁתִּ֣יו בְּה֗וֹן מַלְכָּא֙ וְרַבְרְבָנ֔וֹהִי שֵׁגְלָתֵ֖הּ וּלְחֵנָתֵֽהּ׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): ishshetּi֖yv chamera֑ ve֠shshabּachu leֽ'lahe֞y dּahaba֧ vekasepּa֛ nechashsha֥ parezela֖ 'a'a֥ ve'abenaֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

אִשְׁתִּ֖יו חַמְרָ֑א וְ֠שַׁבַּחוּ לֵֽאלָהֵ֞י דַּהֲבָ֧א וְכַסְפָּ֛א נְחָשָׁ֥א פַרְזְלָ֖א אָעָ֥א וְאַבְנָֽא׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּahּ-shsha'ata֗h npqv nepa֨qah֙ 'etzebּe'an֙ dּi֣y yad-'ena֔shsh vekaֽteban֙ laqobe֣l neberashshetּa֔ 'al-gּiyra֕ dּiֽy-keta֥l heykela֖ dּi֣y malekּa֑ umalekּa֣ chaze֔h pּa֥s yeda֖h dּi֥y katebaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

בַּהּ־שַׁעֲתָ֗ה נפקו נְפַ֨קָה֙ אֶצְבְּעָן֙ דִּ֣י יַד־אֱנָ֔שׁ וְכָֽתְבָן֙ לָקֳבֵ֣ל נֶבְרַשְׁתָּ֔א עַל־גִּירָ֕א דִּֽי־כְתַ֥ל הֵיכְלָ֖א דִּ֣י מַלְכָּ֑א וּמַלְכָּ֣א חָזֵ֔ה פַּ֥ס יְדָ֖ה דִּ֥י כָתְבָֽה׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): eda֤yin malekּa'֙ ziyvo֣hiy shshen֔ohiy vera'yono֖hiy yebahalunּe֑hּ veqitere֤y charetzehּ֙ mishshetּara֔yin ve'a֨rekubּate֔hּ dּa֥ leda֖ naֽqeshshaֽn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

אֱדַ֤יִן מַלְכָּא֙ זִיוֺ֣הִי שְׁנ֔וֹהִי וְרַעיֹנֹ֖הִי יְבַהֲלוּנֵּ֑הּ וְקִטְרֵ֤י חַרְצֵהּ֙ מִשְׁתָּרַ֔יִן וְאַ֨רְכֻבָּתֵ֔הּ דָּ֥א לְדָ֖א נָֽקְשָֽׁן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): qare֤ malekּa'֙ bּecha֔yil leheֽ'alah֙ le'a֣shshepayּa֔ kshdy kּashsedּa'e֖y vegazerayּa֑ 'ane֨h malekּa֜ ve'ama֣r ׀ lechakּiyme֣y babe֗l dּi֣y kal-'e֠nashsh dּiֽy-yiqere֞h kּetaba֣h dena֗h upishsherehּ֙ yechauinּa֔niy 'aregּevana֣ yilebּa֗shsh vhmvnk vehaֽmeniyka֤ diֽy-dahaba'֙ 'aֽl-tzaue're֔hּ vetaletּi֥y bemalekuta֖ yishshelaֽt׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the wise men of Babylon, "whoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."

קָרֵ֤א מַלְכָּא֙ בְּחַ֔יִל לְהֶֽעָלָה֙ לְאָ֣שְׁפַיָּ֔א כשדיא כַּשְׂדָּאֵ֖י וְגָזְרַיָּ֑א עָנֵ֨ה מַלְכָּ֜א וְאָמַ֣ר ׀ לְחַכִּימֵ֣י בָבֶ֗ל דִּ֣י כָל־אֱ֠נָשׁ דִּֽי־יִקְרֵ֞ה כְּתָבָ֣ה דְנָ֗ה וּפִשְׁרֵהּ֙ יְחַוִּנַּ֔נִי אַרְגְּוָנָ֣א יִלְבַּ֗שׁ והמונכא וְהַֽמְנִיכָ֤א דִֽי־דַהֲבָא֙ עַֽל־צַוְּארֵ֔הּ וְתַלְתִּ֥י בְמַלְכוּתָ֖א יִשְׁלַֽט׃ס

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): eda֨yin֙ 'llyn 'ֽalּi֔yn kּo֖l chakּiyme֣y malekּa֑ velaֽ'-kahali֤yn kּetaba'֙ lemiqere֔ vpshr upishshere֖hּ lehoda'a֥h lemalekּaֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof.

אֱדַ֨יִן֙ עללין עָֽלִּ֔ין כֹּ֖ל חַכִּימֵ֣י מַלְכָּ֑א וְלָֽא־כָהֲלִ֤ין כְּתָבָא֙ לְמִקְרֵ֔א ופשרא וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ לְהוֹדָעָ֥ה לְמַלְכָּֽא׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): e֠dayin malekּa֤ beleshsha'tzּar֙ shsagּi֣y mitebּaha֔l veziyvo֖hiy shshana֣yin 'al֑ohiy verabereban֖ohiy miֽshshetּabּeshshiֽyn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied.

אֱ֠דַיִן מַלְכָּ֤א בֵלְשַׁאצַּר֙ שַׂגִּ֣יא מִתְבָּהַ֔ל וְזִיוֺ֖הִי שָׁנַ֣יִן עֲל֑וֹהִי וְרַבְרְבָנ֖וֹהִי מִֽשְׁתַּבְּשִֽׁין׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): malekּeta֕ laqobe֨l milּe֤y malekּa'֙ verabereban֔ohiy lebe֥yt mishshetּeya֖ 'llt 'alּa֑t 'ana֨t malekּeta֜ va'ame֗ret malekּa'֙ le'alemi֣yn cheyi֔y 'aֽl-yebahaluke֙ ra'eyona֔ke veziyva֖yke 'al-yishshetּanּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: and the queen spoke and said, "O king, live forever: let not your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed:"

מַלְכְּתָ֕א לָקֳבֵ֨ל מִלֵּ֤י מַלְכָּא֙ וְרַבְרְבָנ֔וֹהִי לְבֵ֥ית מִשְׁתְּיָ֖א עללת עַלַּ֑ת עֲנָ֨ת מַלְכְּתָ֜א וַאֲמֶ֗רֶת מַלְכָּא֙ לְעָלְמִ֣ין חֱיִ֔י אַֽל־יְבַהֲלוּךְ֙ רַעְיוֹנָ֔ךְ וְזִיוָ֖יךְ אַל־יִשְׁתַּנּֽוֹ׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): iyta֨y gּeba֜r bּemalekuta֗ke dּi֠y r֣ucha 'elahi֣yn qadּiyshshiyn֮ bּehּ֒ ubeyome֣y 'ab֗uke nahiyr֧u veshsakeletan֛u vechakema֥h kּechakemat-'elahi֖yn hishshetּeka֣chat bּe֑hּ umalekּa֤ nebuֽkadenetzּar֙ 'ab֔uke ra֧b charetumּi֣yn 'aֽshshepi֗yn kּashsedּa'iyn֙ gּazeri֔yn haqiyme֖hּ 'ab֥uke malekּaֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, your father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;"

אִיתַ֨י גְּבַ֜ר בְּמַלְכוּתָ֗ךְ דִּ֠י ר֣וּחַ אֱלָהִ֣ין קַדִּישִׁין֮ בֵּהּ֒ וּבְיוֹמֵ֣י אֲב֗וּךְ נַהִיר֧וּ וְשָׂכְלְתָנ֛וּ וְחָכְמָ֥ה כְּחָכְמַת־אֱלָהִ֖ין הִשְׁתְּכַ֣חַת בֵּ֑הּ וּמַלְכָּ֤א נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּר֙ אֲב֔וּךְ רַ֧ב חַרְטֻמִּ֣ין אָֽשְׁפִ֗ין כַּשְׂדָּאִין֙ גָּזְרִ֔ין הֲקִימֵ֖הּ אֲב֥וּךְ מַלְכָּֽא׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-qobe֡l dּi֣y r֣ucha ׀ yatּiyra֡h umanedּa֡ veshsakeletan֡u mepashshּa֣r chelemiyn֩ vaֽ'aֽchavaya֨t 'achiyda֜n umeshshare֣ qiteri֗yn hishshetּeka֤chat bּehּ֙ bּeda֣niyּe֔'l dּiֽy-malekּa֥ shsam-shsheme֖hּ bּeleteshsha'tzּa֑r kּe'a֛n dּaniyּe֥'l yiteqere֖y upishshera֥h yehaֽchaveֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)"Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation."

כָּל־קֳבֵ֡ל דִּ֣י ר֣וּחַ ׀ יַתִּירָ֡ה וּמַנְדַּ֡ע וְשָׂכְלְתָנ֡וּ מְפַשַּׁ֣ר חֶלְמִין֩ וַֽאַֽחֲוָיַ֨ת אֲחִידָ֜ן וּמְשָׁרֵ֣א קִטְרִ֗ין הִשְׁתְּכַ֤חַת בֵּהּ֙ בְּדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אל דִּֽי־מַלְכָּ֥א שָׂם־שְׁמֵ֖הּ בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֑ר כְּעַ֛ן דָּנִיֵּ֥אל יִתְקְרֵ֖י וּפִשְׁרָ֥ה יְהַֽחֲוֵֽה׃פ

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'da֨yin֙ dּaֽniyּe֔'l hu'a֖l qoda֣m malekּa֑ 'ane֨h malekּa֜ ve'ama֣r ledaniyּe֗'l 'nth 'anetּe-h֤u daniyּe'l֙ dּiֽy-min-bּene֤y galuta'֙ dּi֣y yeh֔ud dּi֥y hayeti֛y malekּa֥ 'a֖biy min-yehֽud׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said to Daniel, "Are you that Daniel, which are of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?"

בֵּאדַ֨יִן֙ דָּֽנִיֵּ֔אל הֻעַ֖ל קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א עָנֵ֨ה מַלְכָּ֜א וְאָמַ֣ר לְדָנִיֵּ֗אל אנתה אַנְתְּ־ה֤וּא דָנִיֵּאל֙ דִּֽי־מִן־בְּנֵ֤י גָלוּתָא֙ דִּ֣י יְה֔וּד דִּ֥י הַיְתִ֛י מַלְכָּ֥א אַ֖בִי מִן־יְהֽוּד׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshime'e֣t 'lyk 'ala֔ke dּi֛y r֥ucha 'elahi֖yn bּa֑ke venahiyr֧u veshsakeletan֛u vechakema֥h yatּiyra֖h hishshetּeka֥chat bּaֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"I have even heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in you."

וְשִׁמְעֵ֣ת עליך עֲלָ֔ךְ דִּ֛י ר֥וּחַ אֱלָהִ֖ין בָּ֑ךְ וְנַהִיר֧וּ וְשָׂכְלְתָנ֛וּ וְחָכְמָ֥ה יַתִּירָ֖ה הִשְׁתְּכַ֥חַת בָּֽךְ׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): uke'a֞n hu'a֣lּu qaֽdama֗y chakּiֽymayּa'֙ 'aֽshshepayּa֔ dּiֽy-ketaba֤h denah֙ yiqer֔on upishshere֖hּ lehoda'uta֑niy velaֽ'-kahali֥yn pּeshshaֽr-milּeta֖ lehachavayaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof: but they could not show the interpretation of the thing:"

וּכְעַ֞ן הֻעַ֣לּוּ קָֽדָמַ֗י חַכִּֽימַיָּא֙ אָֽשְׁפַיָּ֔א דִּֽי־כְתָבָ֤ה דְנָה֙ יִקְר֔וֹן וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ לְהוֹדָעֻתַ֑נִי וְלָֽא־כָהֲלִ֥ין פְּשַֽׁר־מִלְּתָ֖א לְהַחֲוָיָֽה׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'anah֙ shshime'e֣t 'lyk 'ala֔ke dּiֽy-tvkl tiykּ֥ul pּishsheri֛yn lemipeshsha֖r veqiteri֣yn lemishshere֑ kּe'a֡n hen֩ tvkl tּik֨ul kּetaba֜ lemiqere֗ upishsherehּ֙ lehoda֣'uta֔niy 'aregּevana֣ tilebּa֗shsh vhmvnk vehaֽmeniyka֤ diֽy-dahaba'֙ 'aֽl-tzaue'ra֔ke vetaletּa֥ bemalekuta֖ tּishshelaֽt׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)"And I have heard of you, that you can make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if you can read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, you shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."

וַאֲנָה֙ שִׁמְעֵ֣ת עליך עֲלָ֔ךְ דִּֽי־תוכל תִיכּ֥וּל פִּשְׁרִ֛ין לְמִפְשַׁ֖ר וְקִטְרִ֣ין לְמִשְׁרֵ֑א כְּעַ֡ן הֵן֩ תוכל תִּכ֨וּל כְּתָבָ֜א לְמִקְרֵ֗א וּפִשְׁרֵהּ֙ לְהוֹדָ֣עֻתַ֔נִי אַרְגְּוָנָ֣א תִלְבַּ֗שׁ והמונכא וְהַֽמְנִיכָ֤א דִֽי־דַהֲבָא֙ עַֽל־צַוְּארָ֔ךְ וְתַלְתָּ֥א בְמַלְכוּתָ֖א תִּשְׁלַֽט׃פ

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'da֜yin 'ane֣h daniyּe֗'l ve'amar֙ qoda֣m malekּa֔ matּenatake֙ la֣ke leֽheveya֔n uneba֥zebּeyata֖ke le'achora֣n ha֑b bּera֗m kּetaba'֙ 'eqere֣ lemalekּa֔ upishshera֖ 'ahode'inּeֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Daniel answered and said before the king, "Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation."

בֵּאדַ֜יִן עָנֵ֣ה דָנִיֵּ֗אל וְאָמַר֙ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֔א מַתְּנָתָךְ֙ לָ֣ךְ לֶֽהֶוְיָ֔ן וּנְבָ֥זְבְּיָתָ֖ךְ לְאָחֳרָ֣ן הַ֑ב בְּרַ֗ם כְּתָבָא֙ אֶקְרֵ֣א לְמַלְכָּ֔א וּפִשְׁרָ֖א אֲהוֹדְעִנֵּֽהּ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): nth 'a֖netּe malekּa֑ 'elaha'֙ 'ly 'ilּa'a֔h malekuta֤ urebuta'֙ viyqara֣ vehadera֔h yeha֖b linebukadenetzּa֥r 'abֽuke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"O you king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honour:"

אנתה אַ֖נְתְּ מַלְכָּ֑א אֱלָהָא֙ עליא עִלָּאָ֔ה מַלְכוּתָ֤א וּרְבוּתָא֙ וִיקָרָ֣א וְהַדְרָ֔ה יְהַ֖ב לִנְבֻכַדְנֶצַּ֥ר אֲבֽוּךְ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): umin-rebuta'֙ dּi֣y yehab-le֔hּ kּo֣l 'aֽmemayּa֗ 'umayּa'֙ velishshּa֣nayּa֔ hav֛o z'yn zaye'i֥yn vedachali֖yn min-qodam֑ohiy dּiֽy-hava֨h tzabe֜ hava֣ qate֗l vediֽy-hava֤h tzabe'֙ hava֣h mache֔ vediֽy-hava֤h tzabe'֙ hava֣h mari֔ym vediֽy-hava֥h tzabe֖ hava֥h mashshepּiֽyl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"And for the majesty that He gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down."

וּמִן־רְבוּתָא֙ דִּ֣י יְהַב־לֵ֔הּ כֹּ֣ל עַֽמְמַיָּ֗א אֻמַיָּא֙ וְלִשָּׁ֣נַיָּ֔א הֲו֛וֹ זאעין זָיְעִ֥ין וְדָחֲלִ֖ין מִן־קֳדָמ֑וֹהִי דִּֽי־הֲוָ֨ה צָבֵ֜א הֲוָ֣א קָטֵ֗ל וְדִֽי־הֲוָ֤ה צָבֵא֙ הֲוָ֣ה מַחֵ֔א וְדִֽי־הֲוָ֤ה צָבֵא֙ הֲוָ֣ה מָרִ֔ים וְדִֽי־הֲוָ֥ה צָבֵ֖א הֲוָ֥ה מַשְׁפִּֽיל׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): ukediy֙ ri֣m libebe֔hּ veruche֖hּ tּiֽqepa֣t lahazada֑h hanechat֙ min-kּarese֣ malekute֔hּ viֽyqara֖h he'edּi֥yu minּeֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:"

וּכְדִי֙ רִ֣ם לִבְבֵ֔הּ וְרוּחֵ֖הּ תִּֽקְפַ֣ת לַהֲזָדָ֑ה הָנְחַת֙ מִן־כָּרְסֵ֣א מַלְכוּתֵ֔הּ וִֽיקָרָ֖ה הֶעְדִּ֥יוּ מִנֵּֽהּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that He appoints over it whomsoever He will."

וּמִן־בְּנֵי֩ אֲנָשָׁ֨א טְרִ֜יד וְלִבְבֵ֣הּ ׀ עִם־חֵיוְתָ֣א שוי שַׁוִּ֗יְו וְעִם־עֲרָֽדַיָּא֙ מְדוֹרֵ֔הּ עִשְׂבָּ֤א כְתוֹרִין֙ יְטַ֣עֲמוּנֵּ֔הּ וּמִטַּ֥ל שְׁמַיָּ֖א גִּשְׁמֵ֣הּ יִצְטַבַּ֑ע עַ֣ד דִּֽי־יְדַ֗ע דִּֽי־שַׁלִּ֞יט אֱלָהָ֤א עליא עִלָּאָה֙ בְּמַלְכ֣וּת אֲנָשָׁ֔א וּלְמַן־דִּ֥י יִצְבֵּ֖ה יְהָקֵ֥ים עליה עֲלַֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): v'nth ve'a֤netּe bּerehּ֙ bּeleshsha'tzּa֔r la֥ hashshepּe֖letּe libeba֑ke kּal-qobe֕l dּi֥y kal-dּena֖h yedaֽ'etּa׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"And you his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled your heart, though you knewest all this;"

ואנתה וְאַ֤נְתְּ בְּרֵהּ֙ בֵּלְשַׁאצַּ֔ר לָ֥א הַשְׁפֵּ֖לְתְּ לִבְבָ֑ךְ כָּל־קֳבֵ֕ל דִּ֥י כָל־דְּנָ֖ה יְדַֽעְתָּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֣l mareֽ'-shshemayּa֣ ׀ hiteroma֡metּa ulemaֽ'nayּa֨ diֽy-bayete֜hּ hayeti֣yv qdmyk qaֽdama֗ke v'nth ve'a֨netּe vrbrbnyk veraberebana֜ke shsheֽgelata֣ke ulechenatake֮ chamera'֮ shshata֣yin bּehon֒ veleֽ'lahe֣y kasepּaֽ'-ve֠dahaba nechashsha֨ parezela֜ 'a'a֣ ve'abena֗ dּi֠y laֽ'-chaza֧yin vela'-shshame'i֛yn vela֥ yade'i֖yn shshabּa֑chetּa veleֽ'laha֞ dּiֽy-nishshemeta֥ke bּiyde֛hּ vekal-'orechata֥ke le֖hּ la֥ hadּaֽretּa׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"But hast lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, hast you not glorified:"

וְעַ֣ל מָרֵֽא־שְׁמַיָּ֣א ׀ הִתְרוֹמַ֡מְתָּ וּלְמָֽאנַיָּ֨א דִֽי־בַיְתֵ֜הּ הַיְתִ֣יו קדמיך קָֽדָמָ֗ךְ ואנתה וְאַ֨נְתְּ ורברבניך וְרַבְרְבָנָ֜ךְ שֵֽׁגְלָתָ֣ךְ וּלְחֵנָתָךְ֮ חַמְרָא֮ שָׁתַ֣יִן בְּהוֹן֒ וְלֵֽאלָהֵ֣י כַסְפָּֽא־וְ֠דַהֲבָא נְחָשָׁ֨א פַרְזְלָ֜א אָעָ֣א וְאַבְנָ֗א דִּ֠י לָֽא־חָזַ֧יִן וְלָא־שָׁמְעִ֛ין וְלָ֥א יָדְעִ֖ין שַׁבַּ֑חְתָּ וְלֵֽאלָהָ֞א דִּֽי־נִשְׁמְתָ֥ךְ בִּידֵ֛הּ וְכָל־אֹרְחָתָ֥ךְ לֵ֖הּ לָ֥א הַדַּֽרְתָּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'da֨yin֙ min-qodam֔ohiy shsheli֖yacha pּasּa֣ diֽy-yeda֑ uketaba֥ dena֖h reshshiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Then was the part of the hand sent from Him; and this writing was written."

בֵּאדַ֨יִן֙ מִן־קֳדָמ֔וֹהִי שְׁלִ֖יַחַ פַּסָּ֣א דִֽי־יְדָ֑א וּכְתָבָ֥א דְנָ֖ה רְשִֽׁים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): udena֥h ketaba֖ dּi֣y reshshi֑ym mene֥ mene֖ tּeqe֥l uparesiֽyn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"And this is the writing that was written, [1] MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN."

וּדְנָ֥ה כְתָבָ֖א דִּ֣י רְשִׁ֑ים מְנֵ֥א מְנֵ֖א תְּקֵ֥ל וּפַרְסִֽין׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): dּena֖h pּeshshaֽr-milּeta֑ mene֕ menaֽh-'elaha֥ malekuta֖ke vehashshelemaֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it."

דְּנָ֖ה פְּשַֽׁר־מִלְּתָ֑א מְנֵ֕א מְנָֽה־אֱלָהָ֥א מַלְכוּתָ֖ךְ וְהַשְׁלְמַֽהּ׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): tּeqe֑l tּeqi֥yletּah bemoֽ'zaneya֖ vehishshetּeka֥chatּe chasּiֽyr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"TEKEL; You are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting."

תְּקֵ֑ל תְּקִ֥ילְתָּה בְמֹֽאזַנְיָ֖א וְהִשְׁתְּכַ֥חַתְּ חַסִּֽיר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): pּere֑s pּeriysat֙ malekuta֔ke viyhiyba֖t lemada֥y uparaֽs׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"PERES; Your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians."

פְּרֵ֑ס פְּרִיסַת֙ מַלְכוּתָ֔ךְ וִיהִיבַ֖ת לְמָדַ֥י וּפָרָֽס׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'da֣yin ׀ 'ama֣r bּeleshsha'tzּa֗r vehalebּi֤yshshu ledaֽniyּe'l֙ 'aregּevana֔ vhmvnk vehaֽmeniyka֥ diֽy-dahaba֖ 'aֽl-tzaue're֑hּ vehakeri֣zֽu 'al֔ohiy dּiֽy-leheve֥ shshalּi֛yt tּaletּa֖ bּemalekutaֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

בֵּאדַ֣יִן ׀ אֲמַ֣ר בֵּלְשַׁאצַּ֗ר וְהַלְבִּ֤ישׁוּ לְדָֽנִיֵּאל֙ אַרְגְּוָנָ֔א והמונכא וְהַֽמְנִיכָ֥א דִֽי־דַהֲבָ֖א עַֽל־צַוְּארֵ֑הּ וְהַכְרִ֣זֽוּ עֲל֔וֹהִי דִּֽי־לֶהֱוֵ֥א שַׁלִּ֛יט תַּלְתָּ֖א בְּמַלְכוּתָֽא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe֚hּ bּele֣yleya֔ qeti֕yl bּele'shshatzּa֖r malekּa֥ kshdy kashsedּa'aֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

בֵּ֚הּ בְּלֵ֣ילְיָ֔א קְטִ֕יל בֵּלְאשַׁצַּ֖ר מַלְכָּ֥א כשדיא כַשְׂדָּאָֽה׃פ
