Chapter 16

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshamor֙ 'et-cho֣deshsh ha'abi֔yb ve'ashsi֣yta pּe֔sach layhva֖h 'elohe֑yka kּi֞y bּecho֣deshsh haֽ'abi֗yb hotzi֨y'aka֜ yehva֧h 'elohe֛yka mimּitzera֖yim laֽyelah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Observe the month of Aviv and celebrate the Passover of the LORD your God, because in the month of Aviv he brought you out of Egypt by night.

שָׁמוֹר֙ אֶת־חֹ֣דֶשׁ הָאָבִ֔יב וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ פֶּ֔סַח לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ כִּ֞י בְּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽאָבִ֗יב הוֹצִ֨יאֲךָ֜ יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם לָֽיְלָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vezaba֥chetּa pּe֛sach layhva֥h 'elohe֖yka tzo֣'n ubaqa֑r bּamּaqom֙ 'ashsher-yibecha֣r yehva֔h leshshakּe֥n shshem֖o shshaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Sacrifice as the Passover to the LORD your God an animal from your flock or herd at the place the LORD will choose as a dwelling for his Name.

וְזָבַ֥חְתָּ פֶּ֛סַח לַיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ צֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֑ר בַּמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה לְשַׁכֵּ֥ן שְׁמ֖וֹ שָֽׁם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lo'-to'ka֤l 'alayv֙ chame֔tz shshibe'a֥t yami֛ym tּoֽ'kal-'ala֥yv matzּ֖ot le֣chem 'o֑niy kּi֣y bechipּaz֗on yatza֨'ta֙ me'e֣retz mitzera֔yim lema֣'an tּizekּor֔ 'et-y֤om tzeֽ'teka֙ me'e֣retz mitzera֔yim kּo֖l yeme֥y chayּeֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Do not eat it with bread made with yeast, but for seven days eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, because you left Egypt in haste, so that all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt.

לֹא־תֹאכַ֤ל עָלָיו֙ חָמֵ֔ץ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֛ים תֹּֽאכַל־עָלָ֥יו מַצּ֖וֹת לֶ֣חֶם עֹ֑נִי כִּ֣י בְחִפָּז֗וֹן יָצָ֨אתָ֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם לְמַ֣עַן תִּזְכֹּר֔ אֶת־י֤וֹם צֵֽאתְךָ֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם כֹּ֖ל יְמֵ֥י חַיֶּֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-yera'e֨h leka֥ shse'o֛r bּekal-gּebuleka֖ shshibe'a֣t yami֑ym velo'-yali֣yn min-habּashsa֗r 'ashshe֨r tּizebּa֥ch bּa'e֛reb bּayּ֥om hari'shsh֖on labּoֽqer׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Let no yeast be found in your possession in all your land for seven days. Do not let any of the meat you sacrifice on the evening of the first day remain until morning.

וְלֹֽא־יֵרָאֶ֨ה לְךָ֥ שְׂאֹ֛ר בְּכָל־גְּבֻלְךָ֖ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים וְלֹא־יָלִ֣ין מִן־הַבָּשָׂ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר תִּזְבַּ֥ח בָּעֶ֛רֶב בַּיּ֥וֹם הָרִאשׁ֖וֹן לַבֹּֽקֶר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lo֥ tuka֖l lizebּo֣cha 'et-hapּa֑sach bּe'acha֣d shshe'are֔yka 'ashsher-yehva֥h 'elohe֖yka note֥n laֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You must not sacrifice the Passover in any town the LORD your God gives you

לֹ֥א תוּכַ֖ל לִזְבֹּ֣חַ אֶת־הַפָּ֑סַח בְּאַחַ֣ד שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֠y 'iֽm-'el-hamּaq֞om 'ashsher-yibecha֨r yehva֤h 'elohe֨yka֙ leshshakּe֣n shshem֔o shsha֛m tּizebּa֥ch 'et-hapּe֖sach bּa'a֑reb kּeb֣o hashshּe֔meshsh mo'e֖d tzeֽ'teka֥ mimּitzeraֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)except in the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name. There you must sacrifice the Passover in the evening, when the sun goes down, on the anniversary of your departure from Egypt.

כִּ֠י אִֽם־אֶל־הַמָּק֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַ֨ר יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ לְשַׁכֵּ֣ן שְׁמ֔וֹ שָׁ֛ם תִּזְבַּ֥ח אֶת־הַפֶּ֖סַח בָּעָ֑רֶב כְּב֣וֹא הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ מוֹעֵ֖ד צֵֽאתְךָ֥ מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubishshּaletּa֙ ve'a֣kaletּa֔ bּamּaq֕om 'ashshe֥r yibecha֛r yehva֥h 'elohe֖yka bּ֑o upani֣yta babּo֔qer vehalaketּa֖ le'ohaleֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Roast it and eat it at the place the LORD your God will choose. Then in the morning return to your tents.

וּבִשַּׁלְתָּ֙ וְאָ֣כַלְתָּ֔ בַּמָּק֕וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִבְחַ֛ר יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בּ֑וֹ וּפָנִ֣יתָ בַבֹּ֔קֶר וְהָלַכְתָּ֖ לְאֹהָלֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshe֥shshet yami֖ym tּo'ka֣l matzּ֑ot ubayּ֣om hashshּebiy'i֗y 'atze֨ret֙ layhva֣h 'elohe֔yka lo֥ ta'ashse֖h mela'kaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)For six days eat unleavened bread and on the seventh day hold an assembly to the LORD your God and do no work.

שֵׁ֥שֶׁת יָמִ֖ים תֹּאכַ֣ל מַצּ֑וֹת וּבַיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י עֲצֶ֨רֶת֙ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ לֹ֥א תַעֲשֶׂ֖ה מְלָאכָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshibe'a֥h shshabu'o֖t tּisepּar-la֑ke mehache֤l cheremeshsh֙ bּaqּama֔h tּache֣l lisepּo֔r shshibe'a֖h shshabu'ֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Count off seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain.

שִׁבְעָ֥ה שָׁבֻעֹ֖ת תִּסְפָּר־לָ֑ךְ מֵהָחֵ֤ל חֶרְמֵשׁ֙ בַּקָּמָ֔ה תָּחֵ֣ל לִסְפֹּ֔ר שִׁבְעָ֖ה שָׁבֻעֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ashsi֜yta cha֤g shshabu'ot֙ layhva֣h 'elohe֔yka misּa֛t nideba֥t yadeka֖ 'ashshe֣r tּitּe֑n kּa'ashshe֥r yebarekeka֖ yehva֥h 'eloheֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then celebrate the Festival of Weeks to the LORD your God by giving a freewill offering in proportion to the blessings the LORD your God has given you.

וְעָשִׂ֜יתָ חַ֤ג שָׁבֻעוֹת֙ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ מִסַּ֛ת נִדְבַ֥ת יָדְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּתֵּ֑ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יְבָרֶכְךָ֖ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsamachetּa֞ lipene֣y ׀ yehva֣h 'elohe֗yka 'atּa֨h ubineka֣ ubitּeka֮ ve'abedּeka֣ va'amateka֒ vehalּeviy֙ 'ashshe֣r bּishshe'are֔yka vehagּe֛r vehayּat֥om veha'alemana֖h 'ashshe֣r bּeqirebּe֑ka bּamּaq֗om 'ashshe֤r yibechar֙ yehva֣h 'elohe֔yka leshshakּe֥n shshem֖o shshaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And rejoice before the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, the Levites in your towns, and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows living among you.

וְשָׂמַחְתָּ֞ לִפְנֵ֣י ׀ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ אַתָּ֨ה וּבִנְךָ֣ וּבִתֶּךָ֮ וְעַבְדְּךָ֣ וַאֲמָתֶךָ֒ וְהַלֵּוִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בִּשְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ וְהַגֵּ֛ר וְהַיָּת֥וֹם וְהָאַלְמָנָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּקִרְבֶּ֑ךָ בַּמָּק֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֤ר יִבְחַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ לְשַׁכֵּ֥ן שְׁמ֖וֹ שָֽׁם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veza֣karetּa֔ kּiy-'e֥bed hayi֖yta bּemitzera֑yim veshshamaretּa֣ ve'ashsi֔yta 'et-hֽachuqּi֖ym ha'eֽlּeh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and follow carefully these decrees.

וְזָ֣כַרְתָּ֔ כִּי־עֶ֥בֶד הָיִ֖יתָ בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֣ וְעָשִׂ֔יתָ אֶת־הַֽחֻקִּ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): cha֧g hasּukּo֛t tּa'ashse֥h leka֖ shshibe'a֣t yami֑ym bּe'a֨sepּeka֔ miֽgּareneka֖ umiyּiqebeֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles for seven days after you have gathered the produce of your threshing floor and your winepress.

חַ֧ג הַסֻּכֹּ֛ת תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה לְךָ֖ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים בְּאָ֨סְפְּךָ֔ מִֽגָּרְנְךָ֖ וּמִיִּקְבֶֽךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsamachetּa֖ bּechagּe֑ka 'atּa֨h ubineka֤ ubitּe֨ka֙ ve'abedּeka֣ va'amate֔ka vehalּevi֗y vehagּe֛r vehayּat֥om veha'alemana֖h 'ashshe֥r bּishshe'areֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Be joyful at your festival, you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levites, the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns.

וְשָׂמַחְתָּ֖ בְּחַגֶּ֑ךָ אַתָּ֨ה וּבִנְךָ֤ וּבִתֶּ֨ךָ֙ וְעַבְדְּךָ֣ וַאֲמָתֶ֔ךָ וְהַלֵּוִ֗י וְהַגֵּ֛ר וְהַיָּת֥וֹם וְהָאַלְמָנָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּשְׁעָרֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshibe'a֣t yami֗ym tּachog֙ layhva֣h 'elohe֔yka bּamּaq֖om 'ashsher-yibecha֣r yehva֑h kּi֣y yebarekeka֞ yehva֣h 'elohe֗yka bּeko֤l tּebu'aֽteka֙ ubekol֙ ma'ashse֣h yade֔yka vehayi֖yta 'a֥ke shsameֽcha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For seven days celebrate the festival to the LORD your God at the place the LORD will choose. For the LORD your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete.

שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֗ים תָּחֹג֙ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בַּמָּק֖וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יִבְחַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֣י יְבָרֶכְךָ֞ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ בְּכֹ֤ל תְּבוּאָֽתְךָ֙ וּבְכֹל֙ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יָדֶ֔יךָ וְהָיִ֖יתָ אַ֥ךְ שָׂמֵֽחַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshal֣oshsh pּe'ami֣ym ׀ bּashshּana֡h yera'e֨h kal-zekureka֜ 'et-pּene֣y ׀ yehva֣h 'elohe֗yka bּamּaqom֙ 'ashshe֣r yibecha֔r bּecha֧g hamּatzּ֛ot ubecha֥g hashshּabu'֖ot ubecha֣g hasּukּ֑ot velo֧ yera'e֛h 'et-pּene֥y yehva֖h reyqaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Three times a year all your men must appear before the LORD your God at the place he will choose: at the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles. No one should appear before the LORD empty-handed:

שָׁל֣וֹשׁ פְּעָמִ֣ים ׀ בַּשָּׁנָ֡ה יֵרָאֶ֨ה כָל־זְכוּרְךָ֜ אֶת־פְּנֵ֣י ׀ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ בַּמָּקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִבְחָ֔ר בְּחַ֧ג הַמַּצּ֛וֹת וּבְחַ֥ג הַשָּׁבֻע֖וֹת וּבְחַ֣ג הַסֻּכּ֑וֹת וְלֹ֧א יֵרָאֶ֛ה אֶת־פְּנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה רֵיקָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): i֖yshsh kּematּena֣t yad֑o kּebirekּa֛t yehva֥h 'elohe֖yka 'ashshe֥r naֽtan-laֽke׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you.

אִ֖ישׁ כְּמַתְּנַ֣ת יָד֑וֹ כְּבִרְכַּ֛ת יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָֽתַן־לָֽךְ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshopeti֣ym veshshoֽteri֗ym tּiֽtּen-leka֙ bּekal-shshe'are֔yka 'ashshe֨r yehva֧h 'elohe֛yka note֥n leka֖ lishshebate֑yka veshshapet֥u 'et-ha'a֖m mishshepּat-tzeֽdeq׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the LORD your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly.

שֹׁפְטִ֣ים וְשֹֽׁטְרִ֗ים תִּֽתֶּן־לְךָ֙ בְּכָל־שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לְךָ֖ לִשְׁבָטֶ֑יךָ וְשָׁפְט֥וּ אֶת־הָעָ֖ם מִשְׁפַּט־צֶֽדֶק׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lo'-tatּe֣h mishshepּa֔t lo֥ takּi֖yr pּani֑ym velo'-tiqּa֣ch shsho֔chad kּi֣y hashshּo֗chad ye'auer֙ 'eyne֣y chakami֔ym viֽysalּe֖p dּibere֥y tzadּiyqiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent.

לֹא־תַטֶּ֣ה מִשְׁפָּ֔ט לֹ֥א תַכִּ֖יר פָּנִ֑ים וְלֹא־תִקַּ֣ח שֹׁ֔חַד כִּ֣י הַשֹּׁ֗חַד יְעַוֵּר֙ עֵינֵ֣י חֲכָמִ֔ים וִֽיסַלֵּ֖ף דִּבְרֵ֥י צַדִּיקִֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tze֥deq tze֖deq tּiredּo֑p lema֤'an tּiֽcheyeh֙ veyarashshetּa֣ 'et-ha'a֔retz 'ashsher-yehva֥h 'elohe֖yka note֥n laֽke׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you.

צֶ֥דֶק צֶ֖דֶק תִּרְדֹּ֑ף לְמַ֤עַן תִּֽחְיֶה֙ וְיָרַשְׁתָּ֣ אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽךְ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): loֽ'-titּa֥ leka֛ 'ashshera֖h kּal-'e֑tz 'e֗tzel mizebּa֛ch yehva֥h 'elohe֖yka 'ashshe֥r tּa'ashseh-lּaֽke׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Do not set up any wooden Asherah pole beside the altar you build to the LORD your God,

לֹֽא־תִטַּ֥ע לְךָ֛ אֲשֵׁרָ֖ה כָּל־עֵ֑ץ אֵ֗צֶל מִזְבַּ֛ח יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּעֲשֶׂה־לָּֽךְ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-taqi֥ym leka֖ matzּeba֑h 'ashshe֥r shsane֖ yehva֥h 'eloheֽyka׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)and do not erect a sacred stone, for these the LORD your God hates.

וְלֹֽא־תָקִ֥ים לְךָ֖ מַצֵּבָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂנֵ֖א יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ס
