Chapter 9

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshema֣ yishsera'e֗l 'atּa֨h 'obe֤r hayּom֙ 'et-hayּaredּe֔n labo'֙ lare֣shshet gּoyi֔m gּedoli֥ym va'atzumi֖ym mimּe֑kּa 'ari֛ym gּedolo֥t ubetzuro֖t bּashshּamaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Hear, Israel: You are now about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities that have walls up to the sky.

שְׁמַ֣ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אַתָּ֨ה עֹבֵ֤ר הַיּוֹם֙ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן לָבֹא֙ לָרֶ֣שֶׁת גּוֹיִ֔ם גְּדֹלִ֥ים וַעֲצֻמִ֖ים מִמֶּ֑ךָּ עָרִ֛ים גְּדֹלֹ֥ת וּבְצֻרֹ֖ת בַּשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): aֽm-gּad֥ol vara֖m bּene֣y 'anaqi֑ym 'ashshe֨r 'atּa֤h yada֨'etּa֙ ve'atּa֣h shshama֔'etּa mi֣y yiteyatzּe֔b lipene֖y bּene֥y 'anaֽq׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The people are strong and tall, Anakites! You know about them and have heard it said: "Who can stand up against the Anakites?"

עַֽם־גָּד֥וֹל וָרָ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י עֲנָקִ֑ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַתָּ֤ה יָדַ֨עְתָּ֙ וְאַתָּ֣ה שָׁמַ֔עְתָּ מִ֣י יִתְיַצֵּ֔ב לִפְנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י עֲנָֽק׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyada'etּa֣ hayּ֗om kּiy֩ yehva֨h 'elohe֜yka hֽu'-ha'obe֤r lepane֨yka֙ 'e֣shsh 'oֽkela֔h h֧u yashshemiyde֛m veh֥u yakeniy'e֖m lepane֑yka vehֽorashshetּa֤m vehaֽ'abadetּam֙ mahe֔r kּa'ashshe֛r dּibּe֥r yehva֖h laֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But be assured today that the LORD your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the LORD has promised you.

וְיָדַעְתָּ֣ הַיּ֗וֹם כִּי֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ הֽוּא־הָעֹבֵ֤ר לְפָנֶ֨יךָ֙ אֵ֣שׁ אֹֽכְלָ֔ה ה֧וּא יַשְׁמִידֵ֛ם וְה֥וּא יַכְנִיעֵ֖ם לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וְהֽוֹרַשְׁתָּ֤ם וְהַֽאַבַדְתָּם֙ מַהֵ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה לָֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-tּo'ma֣r bּilebabeka֗ bּahado֣p yehvah֩ 'elohe֨yka 'ota֥m ׀ milּepaneyka֮ le'mor֒ bּetzideqatiy֙ hebiy'a֣niy yehva֔h lare֖shshet 'et-ha'a֣retz hazּo֑'t uberishshe'at֙ hagּoyi֣m ha'e֔lּeh yehva֖h moriyshsha֥m mipּaneֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)After the LORD your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself, "The LORD has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness." No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is going to drive them out before you.

אַל־תֹּאמַ֣ר בִּלְבָבְךָ֗ בַּהֲדֹ֣ף יְהוָה֩ אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ אֹתָ֥ם ׀ מִלְּפָנֶיךָ֮ לֵאמֹר֒ בְּצִדְקָתִי֙ הֱבִיאַ֣נִי יְהוָ֔ה לָרֶ֖שֶׁת אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את וּבְרִשְׁעַת֙ הַגּוֹיִ֣ם הָאֵ֔לֶּה יְהוָ֖ה מוֹרִישָׁ֥ם מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lo֣ betzideqateka֗ ubeyo֨shsher֙ leba֣beka֔ 'atּa֥h ba֖ lare֣shshet 'et-'aretza֑m kּi֞y bּerishshe'a֣t ׀ hagּoyi֣m ha'e֗lּeh yehva֤h 'elohe֨yka֙ moriyshsha֣m mipּane֔yka ulema֜'an haqi֣ym 'et-hadּaba֗r 'ashshe֨r nishshebּa֤ yehvah֙ la'abote֔yka le'aberaha֥m leyitzecha֖q uֽleya'aqoֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the LORD your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

לֹ֣א בְצִדְקָתְךָ֗ וּבְיֹ֨שֶׁר֙ לְבָ֣בְךָ֔ אַתָּ֥ה בָ֖א לָרֶ֣שֶׁת אֶת־אַרְצָ֑ם כִּ֞י בְּרִשְׁעַ֣ת ׀ הַגּוֹיִ֣ם הָאֵ֗לֶּה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ מוֹרִישָׁ֣ם מִפָּנֶ֔יךָ וּלְמַ֜עַן הָקִ֣ים אֶת־הַדָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִשְׁבַּ֤ע יְהוָה֙ לַאֲבֹתֶ֔יךָ לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyada'etּa֗ kּi֠y lo֤ betzideqaֽteka֙ yehva֣h 'e֠loheyka note֨n leka֜ 'et-ha'a֧retz hatּoba֛h hazּo֖'t lerishshetּa֑hּ kּi֥y 'am-qeshsheh-'o֖rep 'aֽtּah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.

וְיָדַעְתָּ֗ כִּ֠י לֹ֤א בְצִדְקָֽתְךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱ֠לֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵ֨ן לְךָ֜ אֶת־הָאָ֧רֶץ הַטּוֹבָ֛ה הַזֹּ֖את לְרִשְׁתָּ֑הּ כִּ֥י עַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹ֖רֶף אָֽתָּה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): zekor֙ 'al-tּishshekּa֔ch 'e֧t 'ashsher-hiqetza֛petּa 'et-yehva֥h 'elohe֖yka bּamּidebּa֑r lemin-hayּ֞om 'ashsher-yatza֣'ta ׀ me'e֣retz mitzera֗yim 'ad-bּoֽ'akem֙ 'ad-hamּaq֣om hazּe֔h mameri֥ym heyiyte֖m 'im-yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Remember this and never forget how you aroused the anger of the LORD your God in the wilderness. From the day you left Egypt until you arrived here, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

זְכֹר֙ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּ֔ח אֵ֧ת אֲשֶׁר־הִקְצַ֛פְתָּ אֶת־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר לְמִן־הַיּ֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־יָצָ֣אתָ ׀ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֗יִם עַד־בֹּֽאֲכֶם֙ עַד־הַמָּק֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה מַמְרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם עִם־יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubechore֥b hiqetzapetּe֖m 'et-yehva֑h vayּite'anּa֧p yehva֛h bּake֖m lehashshemi֥yd 'etekeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)At Horeb you aroused the LORD's wrath so that he was angry enough to destroy you.

וּבְחֹרֵ֥ב הִקְצַפְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּתְאַנַּ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה בָּכֶ֖ם לְהַשְׁמִ֥יד אֶתְכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּa'aloti֣y haha֗rah laqa֜chat lucho֤t haֽ'abaniym֙ lucho֣t habּeri֔yt 'ashsher-kּara֥t yehva֖h 'imּake֑m va'eshshe֣b bּaha֗r 'arebּa'i֥ym yom֙ ve'arebּa'i֣ym la֔yelah le֚chem lo֣ 'aka֔letּiy uma֖yim lo֥ shshatiֽytiy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When I went up on the mountain to receive the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant that the LORD had made with you, I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water.

בַּעֲלֹתִ֣י הָהָ֗רָה לָקַ֜חַת לוּחֹ֤ת הָֽאֲבָנִים֙ לוּחֹ֣ת הַבְּרִ֔ית אֲשֶׁר־כָּרַ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה עִמָּכֶ֑ם וָאֵשֵׁ֣ב בָּהָ֗ר אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יוֹם֙ וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים לַ֔יְלָה לֶ֚חֶם לֹ֣א אָכַ֔לְתִּי וּמַ֖יִם לֹ֥א שָׁתִֽיתִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּe֨n yehva֜h 'ela֗y 'et-shsheney֙ lucho֣t haֽ'abani֔ym kּetubi֖ym bּe'etzebּa֣ 'elohi֑ym va'aleyhe֗m kּeֽkal-hadּebari֡ym 'ashshe֣r dּibּer֩ yehva֨h 'imּake֥m bּaha֛r mitּ֥oke ha'e֖shsh bּey֥om haqּahaֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD gave me two stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God. On them were all the commandments the LORD proclaimed to you on the mountain out of the fire, on the day of the assembly.

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י אֶת־שְׁנֵי֙ לוּחֹ֣ת הָֽאֲבָנִ֔ים כְּתֻבִ֖ים בְּאֶצְבַּ֣ע אֱלֹהִ֑ים וַעֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כְּֽכָל־הַדְּבָרִ֡ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּר֩ יְהוָ֨ה עִמָּכֶ֥ם בָּהָ֛ר מִתּ֥וֹךְ הָאֵ֖שׁ בְּי֥וֹם הַקָּהָֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֗y miqּetz֙ 'arebּa'i֣ym y֔om ve'arebּa'i֖ym la֑yelah nata֨n yehva֜h 'ela֗y 'et-shshene֛y lucho֥t ha'abani֖ym luch֥ot habּeriֽyt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)At the end of the forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.

וַיְהִ֗י מִקֵּץ֙ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֔וֹם וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים לָ֑יְלָה נָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י אֶת־שְׁנֵ֛י לֻחֹ֥ת הָאֲבָנִ֖ים לֻח֥וֹת הַבְּרִֽית׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer yehva֜h 'ela֗y q֣um re֤d maher֙ mizּe֔h kּi֚y shshiche֣t 'amּeka֔ 'ashshe֥r hotze֖'ta mimּitzera֑yim sa֣ru mahe֗r min-hadּe֨reke֙ 'ashshe֣r tziuiyti֔m 'ashs֥u lahe֖m masּekaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD told me, "Go down from here at once, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt. They have turned away quickly from what I commanded them and have made an idol for themselves."

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י ק֣וּם רֵ֤ד מַהֵר֙ מִזֶּ֔ה כִּ֚י שִׁחֵ֣ת עַמְּךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הוֹצֵ֖אתָ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם סָ֣רוּ מַהֵ֗ר מִן־הַדֶּ֨רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֔ם עָשׂ֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם מַסֵּכָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֥'mer yehva֖h 'ela֣y le'mo֑r ra'i֨ytiy֙ 'et-ha'a֣m hazּe֔h vehinּe֥h 'am-qeshsheh-'o֖rep hֽu'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD said to me, "I have seen this people, and they are a stiff-necked people indeed!

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֣י לֵאמֹ֑ר רָאִ֨יתִי֙ אֶת־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְהִנֵּ֥ה עַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹ֖רֶף הֽוּא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): he֤rep mimּe֨nּiy֙ ve'ashshemiyde֔m ve'emeche֣h 'et-shshema֔m mitּa֖chat hashshּama֑yim ve'eֽ'eshseh֙ 'ֽoteka֔ legoy-'atz֥um vara֖b mimּeֽnּu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Let me alone, so that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven. And I will make you into a nation stronger and more numerous than they."

הֶ֤רֶף מִמֶּ֨נִּי֙ וְאַשְׁמִידֵ֔ם וְאֶמְחֶ֣ה אֶת־שְׁמָ֔ם מִתַּ֖חַת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ אֽוֹתְךָ֔ לְגוֹי־עָצ֥וּם וָרָ֖ב מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'e֗pen vaֽ'ered֙ min-haha֔r vehaha֖r bּo'e֣r bּa'e֑shsh ushsheney֙ lucho֣t habּeri֔yt 'a֖l shshetּe֥y yadaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So I turned and went down from the mountain while it was ablaze with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.

וָאֵ֗פֶן וָֽאֵרֵד֙ מִן־הָהָ֔ר וְהָהָ֖ר בֹּעֵ֣ר בָּאֵ֑שׁ וּשְׁנֵי֙ לֻחֹ֣ת הַבְּרִ֔ית עַ֖ל שְׁתֵּ֥י יָדָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'e֗re vehinּe֤h chata'tem֙ layhva֣h 'eloֽheyke֔m 'ashsiyte֣m lake֔m 'e֖gel masּeka֑h saretּe֣m mahe֔r min-hadּe֕reke 'ashsher-tziua֥h yehva֖h 'etekeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When I looked, I saw that you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for yourselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you.

וָאֵ֗רֶא וְהִנֵּ֤ה חֲטָאתֶם֙ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם לָכֶ֔ם עֵ֖גֶל מַסֵּכָ֑ה סַרְתֶּ֣ם מַהֵ֔ר מִן־הַדֶּ֕רֶךְ אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶתְכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'etepּoshs֙ bּishshene֣y halּucho֔t vaֽ'ashshelike֔m me'a֖l shshetּe֣y yada֑y va'ashshabּere֖m le'eyneykeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands, breaking them to pieces before your eyes.

וָאֶתְפֹּשׂ֙ בִּשְׁנֵ֣י הַלֻּחֹ֔ת וָֽאַשְׁלִכֵ֔ם מֵעַ֖ל שְׁתֵּ֣י יָדָ֑י וָאֲשַׁבְּרֵ֖ם לְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽ'etenapּal֩ lipene֨y yehva֜h kּari'shshona֗h 'arebּa'i֥ym yom֙ ve'arebּa'i֣ym la֔yelah le֚chem lo֣ 'aka֔letּiy uma֖yim lo֣ shshati֑ytiy 'a֤l kּal-chatּa'tekem֙ 'ashshe֣r chata'te֔m la'ashs֥ot hara֛ bּe'eyne֥y yehva֖h lehake'iysֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then once again I fell prostrate before the LORD for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water, because of all the sin you had committed, doing what was evil in the LORD's sight and so arousing his anger.

וָֽאֶתְנַפַּל֩ לִפְנֵ֨י יְהוָ֜ה כָּרִאשֹׁנָ֗ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יוֹם֙ וְאַרְבָּעִ֣ים לַ֔יְלָה לֶ֚חֶם לֹ֣א אָכַ֔לְתִּי וּמַ֖יִם לֹ֣א שָׁתִ֑יתִי עַ֤ל כָּל־חַטַּאתְכֶם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חֲטָאתֶ֔ם לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֛ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y yago֗retּiy mipּene֤y ha'ap֙ veha֣chema֔h 'ashshe֨r qatza֧p yehva֛h 'aleyke֖m lehashshemi֣yd 'eteke֑m vayּishshema֤ yehvah֙ 'ela֔y gּa֖m bּapּa֥'am hahiֽv'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I feared the anger and wrath of the LORD, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the LORD listened to me.

כִּ֣י יָגֹ֗רְתִּי מִפְּנֵ֤י הָאַף֙ וְהַ֣חֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָצַ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם לְהַשְׁמִ֣יד אֶתְכֶ֑ם וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י גַּ֖ם בַּפַּ֥עַם הַהִֽוא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): uֽbe'aharo֗n hite'anּa֧p yehva֛h me'o֖d lehashshemiyd֑o vaֽ'etepּalּe֛l gּam-bּe'a֥d 'aharo֖n bּa'e֥t hahiֽv'

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too.

וּֽבְאַהֲרֹ֗ן הִתְאַנַּ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה מְאֹ֖ד לְהַשְׁמִיד֑וֹ וָֽאֶתְפַּלֵּ֛ל גַּם־בְּעַ֥ד אַהֲרֹ֖ן בָּעֵ֥ת הַהִֽוא

Phonetic (Hebrew): veֽ'et-chatּa'teke֞m 'ashsher-'ashsiyte֣m 'et-ha'e֗gel laqachetּiy֮ va'eshsero֣p 'ot֣o ׀ bּa'eshsh֒ va'ekּo֨t 'ot֤o tachon֙ heyte֔b 'a֥d 'ashsher-dּa֖q le'apa֑r vaֽ'ashshelike֙ 'et-'apar֔o 'el-hanּa֖chal hayּore֥d min-hahaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Also I took that sinful thing of yours, the calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust and threw the dust into a stream that flowed down the mountain.

וְֽאֶת־חַטַּאתְכֶ֞ם אֲשֶׁר־עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם אֶת־הָעֵ֗גֶל לָקַחְתִּי֮ וָאֶשְׂרֹ֣ף אֹת֣וֹ ׀ בָּאֵשׁ֒ וָאֶכֹּ֨ת אֹת֤וֹ טָחוֹן֙ הֵיטֵ֔ב עַ֥ד אֲשֶׁר־דַּ֖ק לְעָפָ֑ר וָֽאַשְׁלִךְ֙ אֶת־עֲפָר֔וֹ אֶל־הַנַּ֖חַל הַיֹּרֵ֥ד מִן־הָהָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubetabe'erah֙ ubemasּa֔h ubeqibero֖t haֽtּa'ava֑h maqetzipi֥ym heyiyte֖m 'et-yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You also made the LORD angry at Taberah, at Massah and at Kibroth Hattaavah.

וּבְתַבְעֵרָה֙ וּבְמַסָּ֔ה וּבְקִבְרֹ֖ת הַֽתַּאֲוָ֑ה מַקְצִפִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם אֶת־יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubishshelo֨cha yehva֜h 'eteke֗m miqּade֤shsh bּarene֨'a֙ le'mo֔r 'alu֙ ureshsh֣u 'et-ha'a֔retz 'ashshe֥r nata֖tּiy lake֑m vatּamer֗u 'et-pּi֤y yehvah֙ 'elo֣heyke֔m velo֤ heֽ'emanetּem֙ l֔o velo֥ shshema'etּe֖m bּeqolֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And when the LORD sent you out from Kadesh Barnea, he said, "Go up and take possession of the land I have given you." But you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You did not trust him or obey him.

וּבִשְׁלֹ֨חַ יְהוָ֜ה אֶתְכֶ֗ם מִקָּדֵ֤שׁ בַּרְנֵ֨עַ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר עֲלוּ֙ וּרְשׁ֣וּ אֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לָכֶ֑ם וַתַּמְר֗וּ אֶת־פִּ֤י יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵיכֶ֔ם וְלֹ֤א הֶֽאֱמַנְתֶּם֙ ל֔וֹ וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם בְּקֹלֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): mameri֥ym heyiyte֖m 'im-yehva֑h miyּ֖om dּa'etּi֥y 'etekeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You have been rebellious against the LORD ever since I have known you.

מַמְרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם עִם־יְהוָ֑ה מִיּ֖וֹם דַּעְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽ'etenapּa֞l lipene֣y yehva֗h 'e֣t 'arebּa'i֥ym hayּ֛om ve'et-'arebּa'i֥ym halּa֖yelah 'ashshe֣r hitenapּa֑letּiy kּiֽy-'ama֥r yehva֖h lehashshemi֥yd 'etekeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I lay prostrate before the LORD those forty days and forty nights because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

וָֽאֶתְנַפַּ֞ל לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֵ֣ת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים הַיּ֛וֹם וְאֶת־אַרְבָּעִ֥ים הַלַּ֖יְלָה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִתְנַפָּ֑לְתִּי כִּֽי־אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה לְהַשְׁמִ֥יד אֶתְכֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'etepּalּe֣l 'el-yehvah֮ va'omar֒ 'adona֣y yehvi֗h 'al-tּashsheche֤t 'amּeka֙ venachala֣teka֔ 'ashshe֥r pּadi֖yta bּegadele֑ka 'ashsher-hotze֥'ta mimּitzera֖yim bּeya֥d chazaqaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I prayed to the LORD and said, "Sovereign the LORD, do not destroy your people, your own inheritance that you redeemed by your great power and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

וָאֶתְפַּלֵּ֣ל אֶל־יְהוָה֮ וָאֹמַר֒ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה אַל־תַּשְׁחֵ֤ת עַמְּךָ֙ וְנַחֲלָ֣תְךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּדִ֖יתָ בְּגָדְלֶ֑ךָ אֲשֶׁר־הוֹצֵ֥אתָ מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם בְּיָ֥ד חֲזָקָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): zekor֙ la'abade֔yka le'aberaha֥m leyitzecha֖q uֽleya'aqo֑b 'al-tּe֗pen 'el-qeshshiy֙ ha'a֣m hazּe֔h ve'el-rishshe'֖o ve'el-chatּa'tֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Overlook the stubbornness of this people, their wickedness and their sin.

זְכֹר֙ לַעֲבָדֶ֔יךָ לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֑ב אַל־תֵּ֗פֶן אֶל־קְשִׁי֙ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְאֶל־רִשְׁע֖וֹ וְאֶל־חַטָּאתֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): pּen-yo'mer֗u ha'aretz֮ 'ashshe֣r hotze'ta֣nu mishshּam֒ mibּeliy֙ yeko֣let yehva֔h lahabiy'a֕m 'el-ha'a֖retz 'ashsher-dּibּe֣r lahe֑m umishsּine'at֣o 'ota֔m hotziy'a֖m lahamita֥m bּamּidebּaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Otherwise, the country from which you brought us will say, 'Because the LORD was not able to take them into the land he had promised them, and because he hated them, he brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.'

פֶּן־יֹאמְר֗וּ הָאָרֶץ֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הוֹצֵאתָ֣נוּ מִשָּׁם֒ מִבְּלִי֙ יְכֹ֣לֶת יְהוָ֔ה לַהֲבִיאָ֕ם אֶל־הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֣ר לָהֶ֑ם וּמִשִּׂנְאָת֣וֹ אוֹתָ֔ם הוֹצִיאָ֖ם לַהֲמִתָ֥ם בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehe֥m 'amּeka֖ venachalate֑ka 'ashshe֤r hotze֨'ta֙ bּekochaka֣ hagּado֔l ubiֽzero'aka֖ hanּetuyaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)But they are your people, your inheritance that you brought out by your great power and your outstretched arm."

וְהֵ֥ם עַמְּךָ֖ וְנַחֲלָתֶ֑ךָ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הוֹצֵ֨אתָ֙ בְּכֹחֲךָ֣ הַגָּדֹ֔ל וּבִֽזְרֹעֲךָ֖ הַנְּטוּיָֽה׃פ
