Chapter 3

Phonetic (Hebrew): lakּo֖l zema֑n ve'e֥t lekal-che֖petz tּa֥chat hashshּamaֽyim׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

לַכֹּ֖ל זְמָ֑ן וְעֵ֥ת לְכָל־חֵ֖פֶץ תַּ֥חַת הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֥t lale֖det ve'e֣t lam֑ut 'e֣t lata֔'at ve'e֖t la'aq֥or natֽu'a׃

Edified Edition (EDE)A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

עֵ֥ת לָלֶ֖דֶת וְעֵ֣ת לָמ֑וּת עֵ֣ת לָטַ֔עַת וְעֵ֖ת לַעֲק֥וֹר נָטֽוּעַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֤t laharog֙ ve'e֣t lirepּ֔o 'e֥t liper֖otz ve'e֥t libenֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

עֵ֤ת לַהֲרוֹג֙ וְעֵ֣ת לִרְפּ֔וֹא עֵ֥ת לִפְר֖וֹץ וְעֵ֥ת לִבְנֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֤t libekּot֙ ve'e֣t lishsech֔oq 'e֥t sep֖od ve'e֥t reqֽod׃

Edified Edition (EDE)A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

עֵ֤ת לִבְכּוֹת֙ וְעֵ֣ת לִשְׂח֔וֹק עֵ֥ת סְפ֖וֹד וְעֵ֥ת רְקֽוֹד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֚t lehashsheli֣yke 'abani֔ym ve'e֖t kּen֣os 'abani֑ym 'e֣t lachab֔oq ve'e֖t lirecho֥q mechabּeֽq׃

Edified Edition (EDE)A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

עֵ֚ת לְהַשְׁלִ֣יךְ אֲבָנִ֔ים וְעֵ֖ת כְּנ֣וֹס אֲבָנִ֑ים עֵ֣ת לַחֲב֔וֹק וְעֵ֖ת לִרְחֹ֥ק מֵחַבֵּֽק׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֤t lebaqּeshsh֙ ve'e֣t le'abּe֔d 'e֥t lishshem֖or ve'e֥t lehashsheliֽyke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

עֵ֤ת לְבַקֵּשׁ֙ וְעֵ֣ת לְאַבֵּ֔ד עֵ֥ת לִשְׁמ֖וֹר וְעֵ֥ת לְהַשְׁלִֽיךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֤t liqer֨o'a֙ ve'e֣t litepּ֔or 'e֥t lachashsh֖ot ve'e֥t ledabּeֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

עֵ֤ת לִקְר֨וֹעַ֙ וְעֵ֣ת לִתְפּ֔וֹר עֵ֥ת לַחֲשׁ֖וֹת וְעֵ֥ת לְדַבֵּֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֤t leֽ'ehob֙ ve'e֣t lishseno֔ 'e֥t milechama֖h ve'e֥t shshalֽom׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

עֵ֤ת לֶֽאֱהֹב֙ וְעֵ֣ת לִשְׂנֹ֔א עֵ֥ת מִלְחָמָ֖ה וְעֵ֥ת שָׁלֽוֹם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): mah-yּiteron֙ haֽ'oshse֔h bּa'ashshe֖r h֥u 'ameֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)What profit has he that works in that wherein he labours?

מַה־יִּתְרוֹן֙ הָֽעוֹשֶׂ֔ה בַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר ה֥וּא עָמֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ra'i֣ytiy 'et-haֽ'ineya֗n 'ashshe֨r nata֧n 'elohi֛ym libene֥y ha'ada֖m la'an֥ot bּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I have seen the travail, which God has given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

רָאִ֣יתִי אֶת־הָֽעִנְיָ֗ן אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֧ן אֱלֹהִ֛ים לִבְנֵ֥י הָאָדָ֖ם לַעֲנ֥וֹת בּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): et-hakּo֥l 'ashsa֖h yape֣h be'itּ֑o gּa֤m 'et-ha'olam֙ nata֣n bּelibּa֔m mibּeli֞y 'ashshe֧r lo'-yimetza֣ ha'ada֗m 'et-haֽmּa'ashse֛h 'ashsher-'ashsa֥h ha'elohi֖ym mero֥'shsh ve'ad-sֽop׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He has made every thing beautiful in His time: also He has set the [1] world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God makes from the beginning to the end.

אֶת־הַכֹּ֥ל עָשָׂ֖ה יָפֶ֣ה בְעִתּ֑וֹ גַּ֤ם אֶת־הָעֹלָם֙ נָתַ֣ן בְּלִבָּ֔ם מִבְּלִ֞י אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹא־יִמְצָ֣א הָאָדָ֗ם אֶת־הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֛ה אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים מֵרֹ֥אשׁ וְעַד־סֽוֹף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): yada֕'etּiy kּi֛y 'e֥yn t֖ob bּa֑m kּi֣y 'im-lishsem֔ocha vela'ashs֥ot t֖ob bּechayּaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

יָדַ֕עְתִּי כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין ט֖וֹב בָּ֑ם כִּ֣י אִם־לִשְׂמ֔וֹחַ וְלַעֲשׂ֥וֹת ט֖וֹב בְּחַיָּֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vega֤m kּal-ha'adam֙ shsheyּo'ka֣l veshshata֔h vera'a֥h t֖ob bּekal-'amal֑o matּa֥t 'elohi֖ym hiֽy'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

וְגַ֤ם כָּל־הָאָדָם֙ שֶׁיֹּאכַ֣ל וְשָׁתָ֔ה וְרָאָ֥ה ט֖וֹב בְּכָל־עֲמָל֑וֹ מַתַּ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים הִֽיא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): yada֗'etּiy kּi֠y kּal-'ashshe֨r ya'ashse֤h ha'elohiym֙ h֚u yiheye֣h le'ola֔m 'alayv֙ 'e֣yn lehosi֔yp umimּe֖nּu 'e֣yn ligero֑'a veha'elohi֣ym 'ashsa֔h shsheyּiֽre'֖u milּepanaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I know that, whatever God does, it shall be forever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God does it, that men should fear before Him.

יָדַ֗עְתִּי כִּ֠י כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֨ר יַעֲשֶׂ֤ה הָאֱלֹהִים֙ ה֚וּא יִהְיֶ֣ה לְעוֹלָ֔ם עָלָיו֙ אֵ֣ין לְהוֹסִ֔יף וּמִמֶּ֖נּוּ אֵ֣ין לִגְרֹ֑עַ וְהָאֱלֹהִ֣ים עָשָׂ֔ה שֶׁיִּֽרְא֖וּ מִלְּפָנָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): mah-shshּeֽhayah֙ kּeba֣r h֔u va'ashshe֥r lihey֖ot kּeba֣r haya֑h veha'elohi֖ym yebaqּe֥shsh 'et-niredּaֽp׃

Edified Edition (EDE)That which has been is now; and that which is to be has already been; and God requires that which is past.

מַה־שֶּֽׁהָיָה֙ כְּבָ֣ר ה֔וּא וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר לִהְי֖וֹת כְּבָ֣ר הָיָ֑ה וְהָאֱלֹהִ֖ים יְבַקֵּ֥שׁ אֶת־נִרְדָּֽף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'֥od ra'i֖ytiy tּa֣chat hashshּa֑meshsh meq֤om hamּishshepּat֙ shsha֣mּah hare֔shsha umeq֥om hatzּe֖deq shsha֥mּah haraֽshsha'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgement, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

וְע֥וֹד רָאִ֖יתִי תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ מְק֤וֹם הַמִּשְׁפָּט֙ שָׁ֣מָּה הָרֶ֔שַׁע וּמְק֥וֹם הַצֶּ֖דֶק שָׁ֥מָּה הָרָֽשַׁע׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ama֤retּiֽy 'aniy֙ bּelibּi֔y 'et-hatzּadּiyq֙ ve'et-ha֣rashsha֔ yishshepּo֖t ha'elohi֑ym kּiy-'e֣t lekal-che֔petz ve'a֥l kּal-haֽmּa'ashse֖h shshaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I said in my heart, "God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."

אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּלִבִּ֔י אֶת־הַצַּדִּיק֙ וְאֶת־הָ֣רָשָׁ֔ע יִשְׁפֹּ֖ט הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים כִּי־עֵ֣ת לְכָל־חֵ֔פֶץ וְעַ֥ל כָּל־הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה שָֽׁם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ama֤retּiֽy 'aniy֙ bּelibּi֔y 'al-dּiberat֙ bּene֣y ha'ada֔m lebara֖m ha'elohi֑ym velire'֕ot shshehem-bּehema֥h he֖mּah laheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I said in my heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּלִבִּ֔י עַל־דִּבְרַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָאָדָ֔ם לְבָרָ֖ם הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְלִרְא֕וֹת שְׁהֶם־בְּהֵמָ֥ה הֵ֖מָּה לָהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiy֩ miqere֨h beֽney-ha'ada֜m umiqere֣h habּehema֗h umiqere֤h 'echad֙ lahe֔m kּem֥ot zeh֙ kּe֣n m֣ot ze֔h ver֥ucha 'echa֖d lakּo֑l umota֨r ha'ada֤m min-habּehemah֙ 'a֔yin kּi֥y hakּo֖l haֽbel׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For that which happens to the sons of men happens to beasts; even one thing happens to them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yes, they have all one breath; so that a man has no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

כִּי֩ מִקְרֶ֨ה בְֽנֵי־הָאָדָ֜ם וּמִקְרֶ֣ה הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה וּמִקְרֶ֤ה אֶחָד֙ לָהֶ֔ם כְּמ֥וֹת זֶה֙ כֵּ֣ן מ֣וֹת זֶ֔ה וְר֥וּחַ אֶחָ֖ד לַכֹּ֑ל וּמוֹתַ֨ר הָאָדָ֤ם מִן־הַבְּהֵמָה֙ אָ֔יִן כִּ֥י הַכֹּ֖ל הָֽבֶל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hakּo֥l hole֖ke 'el-maq֣om 'echa֑d hakּol֙ haya֣h min-heֽ'apa֔r vehakּo֖l shsha֥b 'el-he'apaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

הַכֹּ֥ל הוֹלֵ֖ךְ אֶל־מָק֣וֹם אֶחָ֑ד הַכֹּל֙ הָיָ֣ה מִן־הֶֽעָפָ֔ר וְהַכֹּ֖ל שָׁ֥ב אֶל־הֶעָפָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): mi֣y yode֗'a r֚ucha bּene֣y ha'ada֔m ha'ola֥h hi֖y lema֑'elah ver֨ucha֙ habּehema֔h hayּore֥det hi֖y lema֥tּah la'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that goes downward to the earth?

מִ֣י יוֹדֵ֗עַ ר֚וּחַ בְּנֵ֣י הָאָדָ֔ם הָעֹלָ֥ה הִ֖יא לְמָ֑עְלָה וְר֨וּחַ֙ הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה הַיֹּרֶ֥דֶת הִ֖יא לְמַ֥טָּה לָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vera'i֗ytiy kּi֣y 'e֥yn tob֙ me'ashshe֨r yishsema֤ch ha'adam֙ bּeֽma'ashsa֔yv kּiy-h֖u cheleq֑o kּi֣y mi֤y yebiy'e֨nּu֙ lire'֔ot bּeme֖h shsheyּiheye֥h 'acharaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

וְרָאִ֗יתִי כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין טוֹב֙ מֵאֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׂמַ֤ח הָאָדָם֙ בְּֽמַעֲשָׂ֔יו כִּי־ה֖וּא חֶלְק֑וֹ כִּ֣י מִ֤י יְבִיאֶ֨נּוּ֙ לִרְא֔וֹת בְּמֶ֖ה שֶׁיִּהְיֶ֥ה אַחֲרָֽיו׃
