Chapter 16
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּise'u֙ meֽ'eyli֔m vayּabo֜'u kּal-'ada֤t bּeneֽy-yishsera'el֙ 'el-midebּar-si֔yn 'ashshe֥r bּeyn-'eyli֖m ube֣yn siyna֑y bּachamishshּa֨h 'ashsa֥r yom֙ lacho֣deshsh hashshּeni֔y letze'ta֖m me'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The whole Israelite community set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai. This was on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left Egypt.

וַיִּסְעוּ֙ מֵֽאֵילִ֔ם וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ כָּל־עֲדַ֤ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶל־מִדְבַּר־סִ֔ין אֲשֶׁ֥ר בֵּין־אֵילִ֖ם וּבֵ֣ין סִינָ֑י בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֨ה עָשָׂ֥ר יוֹם֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י לְצֵאתָ֖ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vylynv vayּilּ֜onu kּal-'ada֧t bּeney-yishsera'e֛l 'al-moshshe֥h ve'aֽl-'aharo֖n bּamּidebּaֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the desert, the whole community complained against Moses and Aaron.

וילינו וַיִּלּ֜וֹנוּ כָּל־עֲדַ֧ת בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל עַל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה וְעַֽל־אַהֲרֹ֖ן בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'mer֨u 'alehe֜m bּene֣y yishsera'e֗l miֽy-yitּe֨n mute֤nu beyad-yehvah֙ bּe'e֣retz mitzera֔yim bּeshshibetּe֨nu֙ 'al-si֣yr habּashsa֔r bּe'akele֥nu le֖chem lashso֑ba kּiֽy-hotze'te֤m 'ota֨nu֙ 'el-hamּidebּa֣r hazּe֔h lehami֛yt 'et-kּal-haqּaha֥l hazּe֖h bּara'aֽb׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)The Israelites said to them, "If only we had died by the LORD hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death."

וַיֹּאמְר֨וּ אֲלֵהֶ֜ם בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל מִֽי־יִתֵּ֨ן מוּתֵ֤נוּ בְיַד־יְהוָה֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם בְּשִׁבְתֵּ֨נוּ֙ עַל־סִ֣יר הַבָּשָׂ֔ר בְּאָכְלֵ֥נוּ לֶ֖חֶם לָשֹׂ֑בַע כִּֽי־הוֹצֵאתֶ֤ם אֹתָ֨נוּ֙ אֶל־הַמִּדְבָּ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה לְהָמִ֛ית אֶת־כָּל־הַקָּהָ֥ל הַזֶּ֖ה בָּרָעָֽב׃ס

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'el-moshshe֔h hineni֨y mameti֥yr lake֛m le֖chem min-hashshּama֑yim veyatza֨ ha'a֤m velaֽqetu֙ dּebar-y֣om bּeyom֔o lema֧'an 'anasּe֛nּu hayele֥ke bּetorati֖y 'im-loֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way, I will test them to see whether they will follow my instructions."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה הִנְנִ֨י מַמְטִ֥יר לָכֶ֛ם לֶ֖חֶם מִן־הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְיָצָ֨א הָעָ֤ם וְלָֽקְטוּ֙ דְּבַר־י֣וֹם בְּיוֹמ֔וֹ לְמַ֧עַן אֲנַסֶּ֛נּוּ הֲיֵלֵ֥ךְ בְּתוֹרָתִ֖י אִם־לֹֽא׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehayah֙ bּayּ֣om hashshּishshּi֔y veheki֖ynu 'e֣t 'ashsher-yabi֑y'u vehaya֣h mishshene֔h 'a֥l 'ashsheֽr-yileqet֖u y֥om ׀ yֽom׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)"On the sixth day, they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days."

וְהָיָה֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁ֔י וְהֵכִ֖ינוּ אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁר־יָבִ֑יאוּ וְהָיָ֣ה מִשְׁנֶ֔ה עַ֥ל אֲשֶֽׁר־יִלְקְט֖וּ י֥וֹם ׀ יֽוֹם׃ס

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer moshsheh֙ ve'aharo֔n 'eֽl-kּal-bּene֖y yishsera'e֑l 'e֕reb viֽyda'etּe֕m kּi֧y yehva֛h hotzi֥y 'eteke֖m me'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Moses and Aaron told all the Israelites, "In the evening you will know that it was the LORD who brought you out of Egypt,"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ וְאַהֲרֹ֔ן אֶֽל־כָּל־בְּנֵ֖י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל עֶ֕רֶב וִֽידַעְתֶּ֕ם כִּ֧י יְהוָ֛ה הוֹצִ֥יא אֶתְכֶ֖ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubo֗qer ure'iytem֙ 'et-kּeb֣od yehva֔h bּeshshame'֥o 'et-tּelunּoteyke֖m 'al-yehva֑h vena֣chenu ma֔h kּi֥y tlvnv talּi֖ynu 'aleֽynu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, because He has heard your grumbling against Him. Who are we, that you should complain against us?"

וּבֹ֗קֶר וּרְאִיתֶם֙ אֶת־כְּב֣וֹד יְהוָ֔ה בְּשָׁמְע֥וֹ אֶת־תְּלֻנֹּתֵיכֶ֖ם עַל־יְהוָ֑ה וְנַ֣חְנוּ מָ֔ה כִּ֥י תלונו תַלִּ֖ינוּ עָלֵֽינוּ׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer moshshe֗h bּete֣t yehvah֩ lake֨m bּa'e֜reb bּashsa֣r le'eko֗l vele֤chem bּabּo֨qer֙ lishsebּo֔'a bּishshemo֤'a yehvah֙ 'et-tּelunּo֣teyke֔m 'ashsher-'atּe֥m malּiyni֖m 'ala֑yv vena֣chenu ma֔h lo'-'ale֥ynu telunּoteyke֖m kּi֥y 'al-yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Moses also said, "You will know that it was the LORD when He gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because He has heard your grumbling against Him. Who are we? You are not complaining against us, but against the LORD."

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֗ה בְּתֵ֣ת יְהוָה֩ לָכֶ֨ם בָּעֶ֜רֶב בָּשָׂ֣ר לֶאֱכֹ֗ל וְלֶ֤חֶם בַּבֹּ֨קֶר֙ לִשְׂבֹּ֔עַ בִּשְׁמֹ֤עַ יְהוָה֙ אֶת־תְּלֻנֹּ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־אַתֶּ֥ם מַלִּינִ֖ם עָלָ֑יו וְנַ֣חְנוּ מָ֔ה לֹא־עָלֵ֥ינוּ תְלֻנֹּתֵיכֶ֖ם כִּ֥י עַל־יְהוָֽה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer moshsheh֙ 'eֽl-'aharo֔n 'emo֗r 'eֽl-kּal-'adat֙ bּene֣y yishsera'e֔l qireb֖u lipene֣y yehva֑h kּi֣y shshama֔ 'e֖t tּelunּoteykeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses told Aaron, "Say to the entire Israelite community, 'Come before the LORD, for He has heard your grumbling.'"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֔ן אֱמֹ֗ר אֶֽל־כָּל־עֲדַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל קִרְב֖וּ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֣י שָׁמַ֔ע אֵ֖ת תְּלֻנֹּתֵיכֶֽם׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֗y kּedabּe֤r 'aharon֙ 'el-kּal-'ada֣t bּeneֽy-yishsera'e֔l vayּipen֖u 'el-hamּidebּa֑r vehinּeh֙ kּeb֣od yehva֔h nire'a֖h bּe'anaֽn׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)While Aaron was speaking to the whole Israelite community, they looked toward the desert, and suddenly the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

וַיְהִ֗י כְּדַבֵּ֤ר אַהֲרֹן֙ אֶל־כָּל־עֲדַ֣ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּפְנ֖וּ אֶל־הַמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְהִנֵּה֙ כְּב֣וֹד יְהוָ֔ה נִרְאָ֖ה בֶּעָנָֽן׃פ

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֥h lּe'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)the LORD said to Moses,

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshama֗'etּiy 'et-tּelunּot֮ bּene֣y yishsera'el֒ dּabּe֨r 'alehe֜m le'mo֗r bּe֤yn haֽ'arebּa֨yim֙ tּo'kel֣u bashsa֔r ubabּo֖qer tּishsebּe'u-la֑chem viֽyda'etּe֕m kּi֛y 'ani֥y yehva֖h 'eloheykeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them, 'At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.'"

שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי אֶת־תְּלוּנֹּת֮ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ דַּבֵּ֨ר אֲלֵהֶ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר בֵּ֤ין הָֽעַרְבַּ֨יִם֙ תֹּאכְל֣וּ בָשָׂ֔ר וּבַבֹּ֖קֶר תִּשְׂבְּעוּ־לָ֑חֶם וִֽידַעְתֶּ֕ם כִּ֛י אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y ba'e֔reb vatּa֣'al hashsּela֔v vatּeka֖s 'et-haֽmּachane֑h ubabּo֗qer haֽyetah֙ shshikeba֣t hatּa֔l sabi֖yb laֽmּachaneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)That evening quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp.

וַיְהִ֣י בָעֶ֔רֶב וַתַּ֣עַל הַשְּׂלָ֔ו וַתְּכַ֖ס אֶת־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה וּבַבֹּ֗קֶר הָֽיְתָה֙ שִׁכְבַ֣ת הַטַּ֔ל סָבִ֖יב לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּa֖'al shshikeba֣t hatּa֑l vehinּe֞h 'al-pּene֤y hamּidebּar֙ dּa֣q mechusepּa֔s dּa֥q kּakּepo֖r 'al-ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the dew evaporated, fine flakes like frost lay on the desert floor.

וַתַּ֖עַל שִׁכְבַ֣ת הַטָּ֑ל וְהִנֵּ֞ה עַל־פְּנֵ֤י הַמִּדְבָּר֙ דַּ֣ק מְחֻסְפָּ֔ס דַּ֥ק כַּכְּפֹ֖ר עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּire'֣u beneֽy-yishsera'e֗l vayּo֨'mer֜u 'i֤yshsh 'el-'achiyv֙ ma֣n h֔u kּi֛y lo֥ yade'֖u mah-h֑u vayּo֤'mer moshsheh֙ 'alehe֔m h֣u halּe֔chem 'ashshe֨r nata֧n yehva֛h lake֖m le'akelaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the Israelites saw it, they asked each other, "[1] (What is it?)" For they did not know what it was. Moses told them, "It is the bread the LORD has given you to eat."

וַיִּרְא֣וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ אִ֤ישׁ אֶל־אָחִיו֙ מָ֣ן ה֔וּא כִּ֛י לֹ֥א יָדְע֖וּ מַה־ה֑וּא וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם ה֣וּא הַלֶּ֔חֶם אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֧ן יְהוָ֛ה לָכֶ֖ם לְאָכְלָֽה׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): ze֤h hadּabar֙ 'ashshe֣r tziua֣h yehva֔h liqet֣u mimּe֔nּu 'i֖yshsh lepi֣y 'akel֑o 'o֣mer lagּulegּo֗let misepּar֙ napeshsho֣teyke֔m 'i֛yshsh la'ashshe֥r bּe'ahol֖o tּiqּaֽchu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Everyone is to gather as much as they need. Take an [2] (omer) for each person in your tent.'"

זֶ֤ה הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה לִקְט֣וּ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ אִ֖ישׁ לְפִ֣י אָכְל֑וֹ עֹ֣מֶר לַגֻּלְגֹּ֗לֶת מִסְפַּר֙ נַפְשֹׁ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם אִ֛ישׁ לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּאָהֳל֖וֹ תִּקָּֽחוּ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'ashsu-ke֖n bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l vaֽyּileqet֔u hamּarebּe֖h vehamּame'iֽyt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered a lot, and some gathered a little.

וַיַּעֲשׂוּ־כֵ֖ן בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיִּלְקְט֔וּ הַמַּרְבֶּ֖ה וְהַמַּמְעִֽיט׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּamo֣dּu ba'o֔mer velo֤ he'edּiyp֙ hamּarebּe֔h vehamּame'i֖yt lo֣ hechesi֑yr 'i֥yshsh lepiֽy-'akel֖o laqaֽtu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered a lot did not have too much, and the one who gathered a little did not have too little. Everyone had gathered exactly what they needed.

וַיָּמֹ֣דּוּ בָעֹ֔מֶר וְלֹ֤א הֶעְדִּיף֙ הַמַּרְבֶּ֔ה וְהַמַּמְעִ֖יט לֹ֣א הֶחְסִ֑יר אִ֥ישׁ לְפִֽי־אָכְל֖וֹ לָקָֽטוּ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֥'mer moshshe֖h 'alehe֑m 'i֕yshsh 'al-yote֥r mimּe֖nּu 'ad-bּoֽqer׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses said to them, "No one is to keep any of it until morning."

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֲלֵהֶ֑ם אִ֕ישׁ אַל־יוֹתֵ֥ר מִמֶּ֖נּוּ עַד־בֹּֽקֶר׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): velo'-shshame'֣u 'el-moshshe֗h vayּoti֨ru 'anashshi֤ym mimּe֨nּu֙ 'ad-bּo֔qer vayּa֥rum tּola'i֖ym vayּibe'a֑shsh vayּiqetzo֥p 'alehe֖m moshsheֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)However, some of them did not listen to Moses. They kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to stink. Because of this, Moses was angry with them.

וְלֹא־שָׁמְע֣וּ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה וַיּוֹתִ֨רוּ אֲנָשִׁ֤ים מִמֶּ֨נּוּ֙ עַד־בֹּ֔קֶר וַיָּ֥רֻם תּוֹלָעִ֖ים וַיִּבְאַ֑שׁ וַיִּקְצֹ֥ף עֲלֵהֶ֖ם מֹשֶֽׁה׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּileqet֤u 'oto֙ bּabּo֣qer bּabּo֔qer 'i֖yshsh kּepi֣y 'akel֑o vecha֥m hashshּe֖meshsh venamaֽs׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Each morning everyone gathered as much as they needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away.

וַיִּלְקְט֤וּ אֹתוֹ֙ בַּבֹּ֣קֶר בַּבֹּ֔קֶר אִ֖ישׁ כְּפִ֣י אָכְל֑וֹ וְחַ֥ם הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ וְנָמָֽס׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y ׀ bּayּ֣om hashshּishshּi֗y laֽqet֥u le֨chem֙ mishshene֔h shshene֥y ha'o֖mer la'echa֑d vayּabo֨'u֙ kּal-neshsiy'e֣y haֽ'eda֔h vayּagּi֖ydu lemoshsheֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much food, two omers for each person. All the leaders of the community came and reported this to Moses.

וַיְהִ֣י ׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁ֗י לָֽקְט֥וּ לֶ֨חֶם֙ מִשְׁנֶ֔ה שְׁנֵ֥י הָעֹ֖מֶר לָאֶחָ֑ד וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ כָּל־נְשִׂיאֵ֣י הָֽעֵדָ֔ה וַיַּגִּ֖ידוּ לְמֹשֶֽׁה׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer 'alehe֗m h֚u 'ashshe֣r dּibּe֣r yehva֔h shshabּat֧on shshabּat-qo֛deshsh laֽyhva֖h macha֑r 'e֣t 'ashsher-tּo'p֞u 'ep֗u ve'e֤t 'ashsheֽr-tּebashshּelu֙ bּashshּe֔lu ve'et֙ kּal-ha֣'ode֔p hanּi֧ychu lake֛m lemishsheme֖ret 'ad-habּoֽqer׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He said to them, "This is what the LORD commanded: 'Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy [4] (Sabbath) to the LORD. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.'"

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם ה֚וּא אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה שַׁבָּת֧וֹן שַׁבַּת־קֹ֛דֶשׁ לַֽיהוָ֖ה מָחָ֑ר אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁר־תֹּאפ֞וּ אֵפ֗וּ וְאֵ֤ת אֲשֶֽׁר־תְּבַשְּׁלוּ֙ בַּשֵּׁ֔לוּ וְאֵת֙ כָּל־הָ֣עֹדֵ֔ף הַנִּ֧יחוּ לָכֶ֛ם לְמִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת עַד־הַבֹּֽקֶר׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּanּi֤ychu 'oto֙ 'ad-habּo֔qer kּa'ashshe֖r tziua֣h moshshe֑h velo֣ hibe'i֔yshsh verimּa֖h lo'-ha֥yetah bּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So they kept it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or have maggots in it.

וַיַּנִּ֤יחוּ אֹתוֹ֙ עַד־הַבֹּ֔קֶר כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֣ה מֹשֶׁ֑ה וְלֹ֣א הִבְאִ֔ישׁ וְרִמָּ֖ה לֹא־הָ֥יְתָה בּֽוֹ׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer moshsheh֙ 'ikelu֣hu hayּ֔om kּiֽy-shshabּa֥t hayּ֖om layhva֑h hayּ֕om lo֥ timetza'u֖hu bּashsּadeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Eat it today," Moses said, "because today is a Sabbath to the LORD. You will not find any of it on the ground today."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אִכְלֻ֣הוּ הַיּ֔וֹם כִּֽי־שַׁבָּ֥ת הַיּ֖וֹם לַיהוָ֑ה הַיּ֕וֹם לֹ֥א תִמְצָאֻ֖הוּ בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshe֥shshet yami֖ym tּileqetu֑hu ubayּ֧om hashshּebiy'i֛y shshabּa֖t lo֥ yiֽheyeh-bּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)On six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.

שֵׁ֥שֶׁת יָמִ֖ים תִּלְקְטֻ֑הוּ וּבַיּ֧וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֛י שַׁבָּ֖ת לֹ֥א יִֽהְיֶה־בּֽוֹ׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayehiy֙ bּayּ֣om hashshּebiy'i֔y yatze'֥u min-ha'a֖m lileqo֑t velo֖ matzaֽ'u׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)Yet, on the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather it, but they found nothing.

וַֽיְהִי֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י יָצְא֥וּ מִן־הָעָ֖ם לִלְקֹ֑ט וְלֹ֖א מָצָֽאוּ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֥'mer yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֑h 'ad-'a֨nah֙ meֽ'anetּe֔m lishshemo֥r mitzevota֖y vetorotaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses, "How long will you refuse to keep my commands and my instructions?"

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה עַד־אָ֨נָה֙ מֵֽאַנְתֶּ֔ם לִשְׁמֹ֥ר מִצְוֺתַ֖י וְתוֹרֹתָֽי׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): re'֗u kּiֽy-yehvah֮ nata֣n lake֣m hashshּabּat֒ 'al-kּe֠n h֣u note֥n lake֛m bּayּ֥om hashshּishshּi֖y le֣chem yoma֑yim shsheb֣u ׀ 'i֣yshsh tּachetּa֗yv 'al-ye֥tze 'i֛yshsh mimּeqom֖o bּayּ֥om hashshּebiy'iֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Bear in mind that the LORD has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day He gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where they are on the seventh day; no one is to go out."

רְא֗וּ כִּֽי־יְהוָה֮ נָתַ֣ן לָכֶ֣ם הַשַּׁבָּת֒ עַל־כֵּ֠ן ה֣וּא נֹתֵ֥ן לָכֶ֛ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁ֖י לֶ֣חֶם יוֹמָ֑יִם שְׁב֣וּ ׀ אִ֣ישׁ תַּחְתָּ֗יו אַל־יֵ֥צֵא אִ֛ישׁ מִמְּקֹמ֖וֹ בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshebּet֥u ha'a֖m bּayּ֥om hashshּebi'iֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So the people rested on the seventh day.

וַיִּשְׁבְּת֥וּ הָעָ֖ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqere'֧u beֽyt-yishsera'e֛l 'et-shshem֖o ma֑n veh֗u kּeze֤ra gּad֙ laba֔n veta'em֖o kּetzapּiychi֥t bּidebaֽshsh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The people of Israel called the bread '[3] (Manna)'. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.

וַיִּקְרְא֧וּ בֵֽית־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ מָ֑ן וְה֗וּא כְּזֶ֤רַע גַּד֙ לָבָ֔ן וְטַעְמ֖וֹ כְּצַפִּיחִ֥ת בִּדְבָֽשׁ׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer moshshe֗h ze֤h hadּabar֙ 'ashshe֣r tziua֣h yehva֔h melo֤ ha'o֨mer֙ mimּe֔nּu lemishsheme֖ret ledoroteyke֑m lema֣'an ׀ yire'֣u 'et-halּe֗chem 'ashshe֨r he'eka֤letּiy 'etekem֙ bּamּidebּa֔r bּehotziy'i֥y 'eteke֖m me'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Moses said, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Keep an omer of manna for the generations to come, so they can see the bread I gave you to eat in the desert when I brought you out of Egypt.'"

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֗ה זֶ֤ה הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה מְלֹ֤א הָעֹ֨מֶר֙ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ לְמִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶ֑ם לְמַ֣עַן ׀ יִרְא֣וּ אֶת־הַלֶּ֗חֶם אֲשֶׁ֨ר הֶאֱכַ֤לְתִּי אֶתְכֶם֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר בְּהוֹצִיאִ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

33
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer moshshe֜h 'eֽl-'aharo֗n qa֚ch tzinetze֣net 'acha֔t veten-shsha֥mּah meloֽ'-ha'o֖mer ma֑n vehanּa֤ch 'oto֙ lipene֣y yehva֔h lemishsheme֖ret ledoroteykeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar and put an omer of manna in it. Then place it before the LORD to be kept for the generations to come."

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֗ן קַ֚ח צִנְצֶ֣נֶת אַחַ֔ת וְתֶן־שָׁ֥מָּה מְלֹֽא־הָעֹ֖מֶר מָ֑ן וְהַנַּ֤ח אֹתוֹ֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה לְמִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶֽם׃

34
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּa'ashshe֛r tziua֥h yehva֖h 'el-moshshe֑h vayּanּiyche֧hu 'aharo֛n lipene֥y ha'edu֖t lemishshemaֽret׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Just as the LORD commanded Moses, Aaron placed it in front of the tablets of the covenant law, so it could be kept safe.

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיַּנִּיחֵ֧הוּ אַהֲרֹ֛ן לִפְנֵ֥י הָעֵדֻ֖ת לְמִשְׁמָֽרֶת׃

35
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubene֣y yishsera'e֗l 'ֽakel֤u 'et-hamּan֙ 'arebּa'i֣ym shshana֔h 'ad-bּo'a֖m 'el-'e֣retz noshsha֑bet 'et-hamּan֙ 'aֽkel֔u 'ad-bּo'a֕m 'el-qetze֖h 'e֥retz kּenaֽ'an׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The Israelites ate manna for forty years, until they came to a land where people lived; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan.

וּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אָֽכְל֤וּ אֶת־הַמָּן֙ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה עַד־בֹּאָ֖ם אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ נוֹשָׁ֑בֶת אֶת־הַמָּן֙ אָֽכְל֔וּ עַד־בֹּאָ֕ם אֶל־קְצֵ֖ה אֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'o֕mer 'ashsiri֥yt ha'eypa֖h hֽu'׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)(An omer is one-tenth of an ephah.)

וְהָעֹ֕מֶר עֲשִׂרִ֥ית הָאֵיפָ֖ה הֽוּא׃פ
