Chapter 33

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֨r yehva֤h 'el-moshsheh֙ le֣ke 'ale֣h mizּe֔h 'atּa֣h veha'a֔m 'ashshe֥r hֽe'eli֖yta me'e֣retz mitzera֑yim 'el-ha'a֗retz 'ashshe֣r ni֠shshebּa'etּiy le'aberaha֨m leyitzecha֤q uֽleya'aqob֙ le'mo֔r lezare'aka֖ 'etּeneֽnּah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD said unto Moses, "Depart, and go up from here, you and the people which you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I swore unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'Unto your seed will I give it':"

וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֙ לֵ֣ךְ עֲלֵ֣ה מִזֶּ֔ה אַתָּ֣ה וְהָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶֽעֱלִ֖יתָ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם אֶל־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִ֠שְׁבַּעְתִּי לְאַבְרָהָ֨ם לְיִצְחָ֤ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹב֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לְזַרְעֲךָ֖ אֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshalachetּi֥y lepane֖yka male'a֑ke vegeֽrashshetּi֗y 'et-haֽkּena'aniy֙ haֽ'emori֔y vehaֽchitּiy֙ vehapּerizּi֔y hachiui֖y vehayebusiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

וְשָׁלַחְתִּ֥י לְפָנֶ֖יךָ מַלְאָ֑ךְ וְגֵֽרַשְׁתִּ֗י אֶת־הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ הָֽאֱמֹרִ֔י וְהַֽחִתִּי֙ וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י הַחִוִּ֖י וְהַיְבוּסִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): el-'e֛retz zaba֥t chala֖b udeba֑shsh kּiy֩ lo֨ 'eֽ'ele֜h bּeqirebּeka֗ kּi֤y 'am-qeshsheh-'o֨rep֙ 'a֔tּah pּen-'akeleka֖ bּadּaֽreke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of you; for you are a stiff-necked people: lest I consume you in the way.

אֶל־אֶ֛רֶץ זָבַ֥ת חָלָ֖ב וּדְבָ֑שׁ כִּי֩ לֹ֨א אֶֽעֱלֶ֜ה בְּקִרְבְּךָ֗ כִּ֤י עַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹ֨רֶף֙ אַ֔תָּה פֶּן־אֲכֶלְךָ֖ בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshema֣ ha'a֗m 'et-hadּaba֥r hara֛ hazּe֖h vayּite'abּa֑lu velo'-shsha֛tu 'i֥yshsh 'edey֖o 'alaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man put on his ornaments.

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע הָעָ֗ם אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הָרָ֛ע הַזֶּ֖ה וַיִּתְאַבָּ֑לוּ וְלֹא־שָׁ֛תוּ אִ֥ישׁ עֶדְי֖וֹ עָלָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer yehva֜h 'el-moshshe֗h 'emo֤r 'el-bּeneֽy-yishsera'el֙ 'atּe֣m 'am-qeshsheh-'o֔rep re֧ga 'echa֛d 'ֽe'ele֥h beqirebּeka֖ vekilּiyti֑yka ve'atּa֗h hore֤d 'edeyeka֙ meֽ'ale֔yka ve'ede'a֖h ma֥h 'eֽ'eshseh-lּaֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For the LORD had said unto Moses, "Say unto the children of Israel: 'You are a stiff-necked people: I will come up into the midst of you in a moment, and consume you: therefore now put off your ornaments, that I may know what to do unto you.'"

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה אֱמֹ֤ר אֶל־בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אַתֶּ֣ם עַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹ֔רֶף רֶ֧גַע אֶחָ֛ד אֶֽעֱלֶ֥ה בְקִרְבְּךָ֖ וְכִלִּיתִ֑יךָ וְעַתָּ֗ה הוֹרֵ֤ד עֶדְיְךָ֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ וְאֵדְעָ֖ה מָ֥ה אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־לָּֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiֽtenatzּel֧u beneֽy-yishsera'e֛l 'et-'edeya֖m meha֥r choreֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mountain Horeb.

וַיִּֽתְנַצְּל֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶת־עֶדְיָ֖ם מֵהַ֥ר חוֹרֵֽב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): umoshsheh֩ yiqּa֨ch 'et-ha'o֜hel venaֽtah-l֣o ׀ mich֣utz laֽmּachane֗h harecheq֙ min-haֽmּachane֔h veqa֥ra l֖o 'o֣hel mo'e֑d vehayah֙ kּal-mebaqּe֣shsh yehva֔h yetze'֙ 'el-'o֣hel mo'e֔d 'ashshe֖r mich֥utz laֽmּachaneֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one who sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was outside the camp.

וּמֹשֶׁה֩ יִקַּ֨ח אֶת־הָאֹ֜הֶל וְנָֽטָה־ל֣וֹ ׀ מִח֣וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה הַרְחֵק֙ מִן־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וְקָ֥רָא ל֖וֹ אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד וְהָיָה֙ כָּל־מְבַקֵּ֣שׁ יְהוָ֔ה יֵצֵא֙ אֶל־אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד אֲשֶׁ֖ר מִח֥וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֗h kּetze֤'t moshsheh֙ 'el-ha'o֔hel yaq֨umu֙ kּal-ha'a֔m veni֨tzּeb֔u 'i֖yshsh pּe֣tach 'ahol֑o vehibּi֨ytu֙ 'achare֣y moshshe֔h 'ad-bּo'֖o ha'oֽhelah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.

וְהָיָ֗ה כְּצֵ֤את מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־הָאֹ֔הֶל יָק֨וּמוּ֙ כָּל־הָעָ֔ם וְנִ֨צְּב֔וּ אִ֖ישׁ פֶּ֣תַח אָהֳל֑וֹ וְהִבִּ֨יטוּ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י מֹשֶׁ֔ה עַד־בֹּא֖וֹ הָאֹֽהֱלָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֗h kּebo֤ moshsheh֙ ha'o֔helah yered֙ 'amּ֣ud heֽ'ana֔n ve'ama֖d pּe֣tach ha'o֑hel vedibּe֖r 'im-moshsheֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses.

וְהָיָ֗ה כְּבֹ֤א מֹשֶׁה֙ הָאֹ֔הֱלָה יֵרֵד֙ עַמּ֣וּד הֶֽעָנָ֔ן וְעָמַ֖ד פֶּ֣תַח הָאֹ֑הֶל וְדִבֶּ֖ר עִם־מֹשֶֽׁה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vera'a֤h kal-ha'am֙ 'et-'amּ֣ud heֽ'ana֔n 'ome֖d pּe֣tach ha'o֑hel veqa֤m kּal-ha'am֙ vehiֽshshetּachau֔u 'i֖yshsh pּe֥tach 'aholֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.

וְרָאָ֤ה כָל־הָעָם֙ אֶת־עַמּ֣וּד הֶֽעָנָ֔ן עֹמֵ֖ד פֶּ֣תַח הָאֹ֑הֶל וְקָ֤ם כָּל־הָעָם֙ וְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֔וּ אִ֖ישׁ פֶּ֥תַח אָהֳלֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vedibּe֨r yehva֤h 'el-moshsheh֙ pּani֣ym 'el-pּani֔ym kּa'ashshe֛r yedabּe֥r 'i֖yshsh 'el-re'e֑hu veshshab֙ 'el-haֽmּachane֔h umeshsha֨ret֜o yehoshshu֤'a bּin-nun֙ na֔'ar lo֥ yami֖yshsh mitּ֥oke ha'oֽhel׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD spoke unto Moses face to face, as a man speaks unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

וְדִבֶּ֨ר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֙ פָּנִ֣ים אֶל־פָּנִ֔ים כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר יְדַבֵּ֥ר אִ֖ישׁ אֶל־רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְשָׁב֙ אֶל־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וּמְשָׁ֨רְת֜וֹ יְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַ בִּן־נוּן֙ נַ֔עַר לֹ֥א יָמִ֖ישׁ מִתּ֥וֹךְ הָאֹֽהֶל׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer moshshe֜h 'el-yehva֗h re֠'eh 'atּa֞h 'ome֤r 'elay֙ ha֚'al 'et-ha'a֣m hazּe֔h ve'atּah֙ lo֣ hֽoda'etּa֔niy 'e֥t 'ashsher-tּishshela֖ch 'imּi֑y ve'atּa֤h 'ama֨retּa֙ yeda'etּi֣ykaֽ beshshe֔m vegam-matza֥'ta che֖n bּe'eynaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And Moses said unto the LORD, "See, You say to me: 'Bring up this people,' and You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said: 'I know you by name, and you have also found favour in My sight.'"

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶל־יְהוָ֗ה רְ֠אֵה אַתָּ֞ה אֹמֵ֤ר אֵלַי֙ הַ֚עַל אֶת־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה וְאַתָּה֙ לֹ֣א הֽוֹדַעְתַּ֔נִי אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־תִּשְׁלַ֖ח עִמִּ֑י וְאַתָּ֤ה אָמַ֨רְתָּ֙ יְדַעְתִּ֣יךָֽ בְשֵׁ֔ם וְגַם־מָצָ֥אתָ חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֡h 'im-na'֩ matza֨'tiy che֜n bּe'eyne֗yka hodi'e֤niy na'֙ 'et-dּerake֔ka ve'eda֣'aka֔ lema֥'an 'emetza'-che֖n bּe'eyne֑yka ure'e֕h kּi֥y 'amּeka֖ hagּ֥oy hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favour in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You, that I may find favour in Your sight: and consider that this nation is Your people.

וְעַתָּ֡ה אִם־נָא֩ מָצָ֨אתִי חֵ֜ן בְּעֵינֶ֗יךָ הוֹדִעֵ֤נִי נָא֙ אֶת־דְּרָכֶ֔ךָ וְאֵדָ֣עֲךָ֔ לְמַ֥עַן אֶמְצָא־חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ וּרְאֵ֕ה כִּ֥י עַמְּךָ֖ הַגּ֥וֹי הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'ma֑r pּana֥y yele֖ku vahanicho֥tiy laֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And He said, "My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest."

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר פָּנַ֥י יֵלֵ֖כוּ וַהֲנִחֹ֥תִי לָֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֖'mer 'ela֑yv 'im-'e֤yn pּane֨yka֙ holeki֔ym 'aֽl-tּa'ale֖nu mizּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he said unto Him, "If Your presence go not with me, carry us not up hence."

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלָ֑יו אִם־אֵ֤ין פָּנֶ֨יךָ֙ הֹלְכִ֔ים אַֽל־תַּעֲלֵ֖נוּ מִזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubamּe֣h ׀ yiuada֣ 'ep֗o kּiֽy-matza֨'tiy che֤n bּe'eyne֨yka֙ 'ani֣y ve'amּe֔ka hal֖o bּeleketּeka֣ 'imּa֑nu venipele֨ynu֙ 'ani֣y ve'amּeka֔ mikּa֨l-ha'a֔m 'ashshe֖r 'al-pּene֥y ha'adamaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)For wherein shall it be known here that I and Your people have found favour in Your sight? Is it not in that You go with us? So shall we be distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people that are upon the face of the ground."

וּבַמֶּ֣ה ׀ יִוָּדַ֣ע אֵפ֗וֹא כִּֽי־מָצָ֨אתִי חֵ֤ן בְּעֵינֶ֨יךָ֙ אֲנִ֣י וְעַמֶּ֔ךָ הֲל֖וֹא בְּלֶכְתְּךָ֣ עִמָּ֑נוּ וְנִפְלֵ֨ינוּ֙ אֲנִ֣י וְעַמְּךָ֔ מִכָּ֨ל־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'el-moshshe֔h gּa֣m 'et-hadּaba֥r hazּe֛h 'ashshe֥r dּibּa֖retּa 'eֽ'eshse֑h kּiֽy-matza֤'ta chen֙ bּe'eyna֔y va'eda'aka֖ bּeshsheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD said unto Moses, "I will do this thing also that you have spoken: for you have found favour in My sight, and I know you by name."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה גַּ֣ם אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֛ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֑ה כִּֽי־מָצָ֤אתָ חֵן֙ בְּעֵינַ֔י וָאֵדָעֲךָ֖ בְּשֵֽׁם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'ma֑r hare'e֥niy na֖ 'et-kּebodeֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And he said, "I beseech You, show me Your [1] (glory)."

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר הַרְאֵ֥נִי נָ֖א אֶת־כְּבֹדֶֽךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֗'mer 'ani֨y 'a'abi֤yr kּal-tubiy֙ 'al-pּane֔yka veqara֧'tiֽy beshshe֛m yehva֖h lepane֑yka vechanּotiy֙ 'et-'ashshe֣r 'acho֔n verichametּi֖y 'et-'ashshe֥r 'aracheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And He said, "I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy."

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֲנִ֨י אַעֲבִ֤יר כָּל־טוּבִי֙ עַל־פָּנֶ֔יךָ וְקָרָ֧אתִֽי בְשֵׁ֛ם יְהוָ֖ה לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וְחַנֹּתִי֙ אֶת־אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָחֹ֔ן וְרִחַמְתִּ֖י אֶת־אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲרַחֵֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֕'mer lo֥ tuka֖l lire'o֣t 'et-pּana֑y kּi֛y loֽ'-yire'a֥niy ha'ada֖m vachaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And He said, "You cannot see My face: for there shall no man see Me, and live."

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לֹ֥א תוּכַ֖ל לִרְאֹ֣ת אֶת־פָּנָ֑י כִּ֛י לֹֽא־יִרְאַ֥נִי הָאָדָ֖ם וָחָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer yehva֔h hinּe֥h maq֖om 'itּi֑y venitzּabetּa֖ 'al-hatzּֽur׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD said, "Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand upon a rock:"

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה הִנֵּ֥ה מָק֖וֹם אִתִּ֑י וְנִצַּבְתָּ֖ עַל־הַצּֽוּר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehayah֙ bּa'abo֣r kּebodi֔y veshsametּi֖yka bּeniqera֣t hatzּ֑ur veshsakּoti֥y kapּi֛y 'ale֖yka 'ad-'aberiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it shall come to pass, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by:"

וְהָיָה֙ בַּעֲבֹ֣ר כְּבֹדִ֔י וְשַׂמְתִּ֖יךָ בְּנִקְרַ֣ת הַצּ֑וּר וְשַׂכֹּתִ֥י כַפִּ֛י עָלֶ֖יךָ עַד־עָבְרִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vahasirotiy֙ 'et-kּapּi֔y vera'i֖yta 'et-'achora֑y upana֖y lo֥ yera'ֽu׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back: but My face shall not be seen."

וַהֲסִרֹתִי֙ אֶת־כַּפִּ֔י וְרָאִ֖יתָ אֶת־אֲחֹרָ֑י וּפָנַ֖י לֹ֥א יֵרָאֽוּ׃ס
