Chapter 9
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'el-moshshe֔h bּo֖ 'el-pּare'o֑h vedibּaretּa֣ 'ela֗yv kּoֽh-'ama֤r yehvah֙ 'elohe֣y haֽ'iberi֔ym shshalּa֥ch 'et-'amּi֖y veyaֽ'abeduֽniy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and tell him: '[1] (This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says): Let my people go, so that they may worship me.'"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה בֹּ֖א אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֑ה וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ אֵלָ֗יו כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י הָֽעִבְרִ֔ים שַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־עַמִּ֖י וְיַֽעַבְדֻֽנִי׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֛y 'im-ma'e֥n 'atּa֖h leshshalּe֑cha ve'odeka֖ machazi֥yq bּaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back,'"

כִּ֛י אִם־מָאֵ֥ן אַתָּ֖ה לְשַׁלֵּ֑חַ וְעוֹדְךָ֖ מַחֲזִ֥יק בָּֽם׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֨h yad-yehva֜h hoya֗h bּemiqeneka֙ 'ashshe֣r bּashsּade֔h bּasּusi֤ym bּaֽchamoriym֙ bּagּemalּi֔ym bּabּaqa֖r ubatzּo֑'n dּe֖ber kּabe֥d me'oֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'the hand of the LORD will strike your livestock in the field with a terrible disease, your horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, and sheep.'"

הִנֵּ֨ה יַד־יְהוָ֜ה הוֹיָ֗ה בְּמִקְנְךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה בַּסּוּסִ֤ים בַּֽחֲמֹרִים֙ בַּגְּמַלִּ֔ים בַּבָּקָ֖ר וּבַצֹּ֑אן דֶּ֖בֶר כָּבֵ֥ד מְאֹֽד׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehipela֣h yehva֔h bּe֚yn miqene֣h yishsera'e֔l ube֖yn miqene֣h mitzera֑yim velo֥ yam֛ut mikּal-libene֥y yishsera'e֖l dּabaֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'But the LORD will make a clear distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt. Not a single animal belonging to the Israelites will die.'"

וְהִפְלָ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה בֵּ֚ין מִקְנֵ֣ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּבֵ֖ין מִקְנֵ֣ה מִצְרָ֑יִם וְלֹ֥א יָמ֛וּת מִכָּל־לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל דָּבָֽר׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥shsem yehva֖h mo'e֣d le'mo֑r macha֗r ya'ashse֧h yehva֛h hadּaba֥r hazּe֖h bּa'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)the LORD set a specific time, saying, "Tomorrow the LORD will do this in the land."

וַיָּ֥שֶׂם יְהוָ֖ה מוֹעֵ֣ד לֵאמֹ֑ר מָחָ֗ר יַעֲשֶׂ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨'ashs yehva֜h 'et-hadּaba֤r hazּeh֙ miֽmּachora֔t vayּa֕mat kּo֖l miqene֣h mitzera֑yim umimּiqene֥h beneֽy-yishsera'e֖l lo'-me֥t 'echaֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The next day, the LORD did exactly what He said. All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.

וַיַּ֨עַשׂ יְהוָ֜ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וַיָּ֕מָת כֹּ֖ל מִקְנֵ֣ה מִצְרָ֑יִם וּמִמִּקְנֵ֥ה בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֹא־מֵ֥ת אֶחָֽד׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshela֣ch pּare'o֔h vehinּe֗h lo'-me֛t mimּiqene֥h yishsera'e֖l 'ad-'echa֑d vayּikebּad֙ le֣b pּare'o֔h velo֥ shshilּa֖ch 'et-ha'aֽm׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Pharaoh sent investigators and found that not a single animal of the Israelites was dead. Yet even with this proof, Pharaoh’s heart remained hard, and he would not let the people go.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְהִנֵּ֗ה לֹא־מֵ֛ת מִמִּקְנֵ֥ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַד־אֶחָ֑ד וַיִּכְבַּד֙ לֵ֣ב פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְלֹ֥א שִׁלַּ֖ח אֶת־הָעָֽם׃פ

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer yehvah֮ 'el-moshshe֣h ve'eֽl-'aharon֒ qech֤u lakem֙ melo֣ chapeneyke֔m pּi֖ycha kּibeshsha֑n uzeraq֥o moshshe֛h hashshּama֖yemah le'eyne֥y pare'oֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses throw it into the air in front of Pharaoh."

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָה֮ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְאֶֽל־אַהֲרֹן֒ קְח֤וּ לָכֶם֙ מְלֹ֣א חָפְנֵיכֶ֔ם פִּ֖יחַ כִּבְשָׁ֑ן וּזְרָק֥וֹ מֹשֶׁ֛ה הַשָּׁמַ֖יְמָה לְעֵינֵ֥י פַרְעֹֽה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֣h le'aba֔q 'a֖l kּal-'e֣retz mitzera֑yim vehaya֨h 'al-ha'ada֜m ve'al-habּehema֗h lishshechi֥yn pּore֛cha 'aba'ebּu'o֖t bּekal-'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and it will cause painful boils to break out on people and animals throughout the country."

וְהָיָ֣ה לְאָבָ֔ק עַ֖ל כָּל־אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם וְהָיָ֨ה עַל־הָאָדָ֜ם וְעַל־הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה לִשְׁחִ֥ין פֹּרֵ֛חַ אֲבַעְבֻּעֹ֖ת בְּכָל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqech֞u 'et-pּi֣ycha hakּibeshsha֗n vayּaֽ'amedu֙ lipene֣y pare'o֔h vayּizero֥q 'ot֛o moshshe֖h hashshּama֑yemah vayehi֗y shshechiyn֙ 'aba'ebּu'o֔t pּore֕cha bּa'ada֖m ubabּehemaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. When Moses threw it into the air, it caused festering boils to break out on people and animals.

וַיִּקְח֞וּ אֶת־פִּ֣יחַ הַכִּבְשָׁ֗ן וַיַּֽעַמְדוּ֙ לִפְנֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה וַיִּזְרֹ֥ק אֹת֛וֹ מֹשֶׁ֖ה הַשָּׁמָ֑יְמָה וַיְהִ֗י שְׁחִין֙ אֲבַעְבֻּעֹ֔ת פֹּרֵ֕חַ בָּאָדָ֖ם וּבַבְּהֵמָֽה׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-yakel֣u hֽacharetumּi֗ym la'amo֛d lipene֥y moshshe֖h mipּene֣y hashshּechi֑yn kּiֽy-haya֣h hashshּechi֔yn bּֽacharetumּi֖m ubekal-mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The magicians could not even stand before Moses because of the [2] (boils), for the boils had broken out on the magicians as well as on all the other Egyptians.

וְלֹֽא־יָכְל֣וּ הַֽחַרְטֻמִּ֗ים לַעֲמֹ֛ד לִפְנֵ֥י מֹשֶׁ֖ה מִפְּנֵ֣י הַשְּׁחִ֑ין כִּֽי־הָיָ֣ה הַשְּׁחִ֔ין בַּֽחֲרְטֻמִּ֖ם וּבְכָל־מִצְרָֽיִם׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayechazּe֤q yehvah֙ 'et-le֣b pּare'o֔h velo֥ shshama֖ 'alehe֑m kּa'ashshe֛r dּibּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-moshsheֽh׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)But the LORD allowed Pharaoh’s heart to become stubborn, and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had told Moses.

וַיְחַזֵּ֤ק יְהוָה֙ אֶת־לֵ֣ב פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְלֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵהֶ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶֽׁה׃ס

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'el-moshshe֔h hashshekּe֣m bּabּo֔qer vehiteyatzּe֖b lipene֣y pare'o֑h ve'amaretּa֣ 'ela֗yv kּoֽh-'ama֤r yehvah֙ 'elohe֣y haֽ'iberi֔ym shshalּa֥ch 'et-'amּi֖y veyaֽ'abeduֽniy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning, stand before Pharaoh, and say to him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me.'"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב לִפְנֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֑ה וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֵלָ֗יו כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י הָֽעִבְרִ֔ים שַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־עַמִּ֖י וְיַֽעַבְדֻֽנִי׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y ׀ bּapּa֣'am hazּo֗'t 'ani֨y shshole֜cha 'et-kּal-magּepotay֙ 'eֽl-libּeka֔ uba'abade֖yka ube'amּe֑ka bּa'ab֣ur tּeda֔ kּi֛y 'e֥yn kּamo֖niy bּekal-ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'For this time, I will send the full force of my plagues against you, your officials, and your people, so that you may know there is no one like me in all the earth.'"

כִּ֣י ׀ בַּפַּ֣עַם הַזֹּ֗את אֲנִ֨י שֹׁלֵ֜חַ אֶת־כָּל־מַגֵּפֹתַי֙ אֶֽל־לִבְּךָ֔ וּבַעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ וּבְעַמֶּ֑ךָ בַּעֲב֣וּר תֵּדַ֔ע כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין כָּמֹ֖נִי בְּכָל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֤y 'atּah֙ shshala֣chetּiy 'et-yadi֔y va'a֥ke 'oteka֛ ve'eֽt-'amּeka֖ bּadּa֑ber vatּikּache֖d min-ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'By now I could have reached out my hand and struck you and your people with a deadly disease that would have wiped you off the earth.'"

כִּ֤י עַתָּה֙ שָׁלַ֣חְתִּי אֶת־יָדִ֔י וָאַ֥ךְ אוֹתְךָ֛ וְאֶֽת־עַמְּךָ֖ בַּדָּ֑בֶר וַתִּכָּחֵ֖ד מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ula֗m bּa'ab֥ur zo't֙ he'emadetּi֔yka bּa'ab֖ur hare'oteka֣ 'et-kּochi֑y ulema֛'an sapּe֥r shshemi֖y bּekal-ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'But I have [3] (raised you up) for this very purpose: to show you my power and so that my name might be famous throughout the whole world.'"

וְאוּלָ֗ם בַּעֲב֥וּר זֹאת֙ הֶעֱמַדְתִּ֔יךָ בַּעֲב֖וּר הַרְאֹתְךָ֣ אֶת־כֹּחִ֑י וּלְמַ֛עַן סַפֵּ֥ר שְׁמִ֖י בְּכָל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): odeka֖ misetּole֣l bּe'amּi֑y lebiletּi֖y shshalּechaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'Are you still setting yourself against my people and refusing to let them go?'"

עוֹדְךָ֖ מִסְתּוֹלֵ֣ל בְּעַמִּ֑י לְבִלְתִּ֖י שַׁלְּחָֽם׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): hineni֤y mametiyr֙ kּa'e֣t macha֔r bּara֖d kּabe֣d me'o֑d 'ashshe֨r lo'-haya֤h kamo֨hu֙ bּemitzera֔yim lemin-hayּ֥om hiuaseda֖h ve'ad-'aֽtּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'Listen: tomorrow at this time, I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever hit Egypt since it was founded.'"

הִנְנִ֤י מַמְטִיר֙ כָּעֵ֣ת מָחָ֔ר בָּרָ֖ד כָּבֵ֣ד מְאֹ֑ד אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹא־הָיָ֤ה כָמֹ֨הוּ֙ בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם לְמִן־הַיּ֥וֹם הִוָּסְדָ֖ה וְעַד־עָֽתָּה׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֗h shshela֤ch ha'ez֙ 'eֽt-miqeneka֔ ve'e֛t kּal-'ashshe֥r leka֖ bּashsּade֑h kּal-ha'ada֨m vehabּehema֜h 'ashsheֽr-yimּatze֣ bashsּade֗h velo֤ yeֽ'asep֙ habּa֔yetah veyara֧d 'alehe֛m habּara֖d vameֽtu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"'So give orders now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the fields into shelter. Every person and animal left outside and not brought under cover will die when the hail falls on them.'"

וְעַתָּ֗ה שְׁלַ֤ח הָעֵז֙ אֶֽת־מִקְנְךָ֔ וְאֵ֛ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְךָ֖ בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה כָּל־הָאָדָ֨ם וְהַבְּהֵמָ֜ה אֲשֶֽׁר־יִמָּצֵ֣א בַשָּׂדֶ֗ה וְלֹ֤א יֵֽאָסֵף֙ הַבַּ֔יְתָה וְיָרַ֧ד עֲלֵהֶ֛ם הַבָּרָ֖ד וָמֵֽתוּ׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): hayּare'֙ 'et-dּeba֣r yehva֔h meֽ'abede֖y pּare'o֑h heni֛ys 'et-'abada֥yv ve'et-miqene֖hu 'el-habּatּiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the [4] (word of the LORD) hurried to bring their servants and livestock indoors.

הַיָּרֵא֙ אֶת־דְּבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה מֵֽעַבְדֵ֖י פַּרְעֹ֑ה הֵנִ֛יס אֶת־עֲבָדָ֥יו וְאֶת־מִקְנֵ֖הוּ אֶל־הַבָּתִּֽים׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ashshe֥r lo'-shsa֛m libּ֖o 'el-dּeba֣r yehva֑h vaֽyּa'azo֛b 'et-'abada֥yv ve'et-miqene֖hu bּashsּadeֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)But those who ignored the [4] (word of the LORD) left their servants and livestock in the fields.

וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־שָׂ֛ם לִבּ֖וֹ אֶל־דְּבַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה וַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛ב אֶת־עֲבָדָ֥יו וְאֶת־מִקְנֵ֖הוּ בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃פ

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer yehva֜h 'el-moshsheh nete֤h 'et-yaֽdeka֙ 'al-hashshּama֔yim viyhi֥y bara֖d bּekal-'e֣retz mitzera֑yim 'al-ha'ada֣m ve'al-habּehema֗h ve'a֛l kּal-'e֥shseb hashsּade֖h bּe'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said to Moses, "Reach out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall over the whole land of Egypt, on people, animals, and everything growing in the fields."

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה נְטֵ֤ה אֶת־יָֽדְךָ֙ עַל־הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וִיהִ֥י בָרָ֖ד בְּכָל־אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם עַל־הָאָדָ֣ם וְעַל־הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה וְעַ֛ל כָּל־עֵ֥שֶׂב הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֨t moshshe֣h 'et-matּehu֮ 'al-hashshּamayim֒ vaֽyhva֗h nata֤n qolot֙ ubara֔d vatּi֥halake 'e֖shsh 'a֑retzah vayּamete֧r yehva֛h bּara֖d 'al-'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Moses reached out his staff toward the sky, the LORD sent [5] (thunder) and [6] (hail), and [7] (lightning) flashed down to the ground. the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt.

וַיֵּ֨ט מֹשֶׁ֣ה אֶת־מַטֵּהוּ֮ עַל־הַשָּׁמַיִם֒ וַֽיהוָ֗ה נָתַ֤ן קֹלֹת֙ וּבָרָ֔ד וַתִּ֥הֲלַךְ אֵ֖שׁ אָ֑רְצָה וַיַּמְטֵ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה בָּרָ֖ד עַל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y bara֔d ve'e֕shsh mitelaqּa֖chat bּet֣oke habּara֑d kּabe֣d me'o֔d 'a֠shsher loֽ'-haya֤h kamo֨hu֙ bּekal-'e֣retz mitzera֔yim me'a֖z hayeta֥h legֽoy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)It was a terrifying storm: hail and lightning mixed together. It was the worst storm in all of Egypt since it had become a nation.

וַיְהִ֣י בָרָ֔ד וְאֵ֕שׁ מִתְלַקַּ֖חַת בְּת֣וֹךְ הַבָּרָ֑ד כָּבֵ֣ד מְאֹ֔ד אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹֽא־הָיָ֤ה כָמֹ֨הוּ֙ בְּכָל־אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם מֵאָ֖ז הָיְתָ֥ה לְגֽוֹי׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨ke habּara֜d bּekal-'e֣retz mitzera֗yim 'e֚t kּal-'ashshe֣r bּashsּade֔h me'ada֖m ve'ad-bּehema֑h ve'e֨t kּal-'e֤shseb hashsּadeh֙ hikּa֣h habּara֔d ve'et-kּal-'e֥tz hashsּade֖h shshibּeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Throughout Egypt, the hail struck everything left in the fields, both people and animals. It beat down all the plants and stripped every tree.

וַיַּ֨ךְ הַבָּרָ֜ד בְּכָל־אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֗יִם אֵ֚ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה מֵאָדָ֖ם וְעַד־בְּהֵמָ֑ה וְאֵ֨ת כָּל־עֵ֤שֶׂב הַשָּׂדֶה֙ הִכָּ֣ה הַבָּרָ֔ד וְאֶת־כָּל־עֵ֥ץ הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה שִׁבֵּֽר׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): ra֚q bּe'e֣retz gּo֔shshen 'ashsher-shsha֖m bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l lo֥ haya֖h bּaraֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The only place where there was no hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites lived.

רַ֚ק בְּאֶ֣רֶץ גֹּ֔שֶׁן אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לֹ֥א הָיָ֖ה בָּרָֽד׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshela֣ch pּare'o֗h vayּiqera'֙ lemoshshe֣h uֽle'aharo֔n vayּo֥'mer 'alehe֖m chata֣'tiy hapּa֑'am yehvah֙ hatzּadּi֔yq va'ani֥y ve'amּi֖y hareshsha'iֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron. "This time I have sinned," he told them. "[8] (the LORD is righteous), and my people and I are in the [9] (wrong)."

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח פַּרְעֹ֗ה וַיִּקְרָא֙ לְמֹשֶׁ֣ה וּֽלְאַהֲרֹ֔ן וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֖ם חָטָ֣אתִי הַפָּ֑עַם יְהוָה֙ הַצַּדִּ֔יק וַאֲנִ֥י וְעַמִּ֖י הָרְשָׁעִֽים׃

28

Edified Edition (EDE)"Pray to the LORD! We have had enough of this terrifying thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don't have to stay here any longer."

הַעְתִּ֨ירוּ֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וְרַ֕ב מִֽהְיֹ֛ת קֹלֹ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים וּבָרָ֑ד וַאֲשַׁלְּחָ֣ה אֶתְכֶ֔ם וְלֹ֥א תֹסִפ֖וּן לַעֲמֹֽד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer 'elayv֙ moshshe֔h kּetze'tiy֙ 'et-ha'i֔yr 'epero֥shs 'et-kּapּa֖y 'el-yehva֑h haqּol֣ot yechedּal֗un vehabּarad֙ lo֣ yiֽheyeh-'֔od lema֣'an tּeda֔ kּi֥y layhva֖h ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Moses replied, "As soon as I leave the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the LORD. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to the LORD."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה כְּצֵאתִי֙ אֶת־הָעִ֔יר אֶפְרֹ֥שׂ אֶת־כַּפַּ֖י אֶל־יְהוָ֑ה הַקֹּל֣וֹת יֶחְדָּל֗וּן וְהַבָּרָד֙ לֹ֣א יִֽהְיֶה־ע֔וֹד לְמַ֣עַן תֵּדַ֔ע כִּ֥י לַיהוָ֖ה הָאָֽרֶץ׃

30
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֖h va'abade֑yka yada֕'etּiy kּi֚y te֣rem tּiֽyre'֔un mipּene֖y yehva֥h 'elohiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"But I know that you and your officials still do not truly fear the LORD God."

וְאַתָּ֖ה וַעֲבָדֶ֑יךָ יָדַ֕עְתִּי כִּ֚י טֶ֣רֶם תִּֽירְא֔וּן מִפְּנֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִֽים׃

31
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehapּishshetּa֥h vehashsּe'ora֖h nukּa֑tah kּi֤y hashsּe'orah֙ 'abi֔yb vehapּishshetּa֖h gּibe'oֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)(The flax and barley were destroyed, because the barley was ripe and the flax was in bloom.)

וְהַפִּשְׁתָּ֥ה וְהַשְּׂעֹרָ֖ה נֻכָּ֑תָה כִּ֤י הַשְּׂעֹרָה֙ אָבִ֔יב וְהַפִּשְׁתָּ֖ה גִּבְעֹֽל׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehachitּa֥h vehakּusּe֖met lo֣ nukּ֑u kּi֥y 'apiylo֖t heֽnּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)(However, the wheat and the spelt were not destroyed because they ripen later.)

וְהַחִטָּ֥ה וְהַכֻּסֶּ֖מֶת לֹ֣א נֻכּ֑וּ כִּ֥י אֲפִילֹ֖ת הֵֽנָּה׃

33
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze֨ moshshe֜h me'i֤m pּare'oh֙ 'et-ha'i֔yr vayּipero֥shs kּapּa֖yv 'el-yehva֑h vaֽyּachedּel֤u haqּolot֙ vehabּara֔d umata֖r lo'-nitּa֥ke 'aֽretzah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Moses left Pharaoh and the city, and spread out his hands toward the LORD. The thunder and hail stopped, and the rain ceased to pour down.

וַיֵּצֵ֨א מֹשֶׁ֜ה מֵעִ֤ם פַּרְעֹה֙ אֶת־הָעִ֔יר וַיִּפְרֹ֥שׂ כַּפָּ֖יו אֶל־יְהוָ֑ה וַֽיַּחְדְּל֤וּ הַקֹּלוֹת֙ וְהַבָּרָ֔ד וּמָטָ֖ר לֹא־נִתַּ֥ךְ אָֽרְצָה׃

34
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣re pּare'o֗h kּiֽy-chada֨l hamּata֧r vehabּara֛d vehaqּolo֖t vayּo֣sep lachato֑ vayּakebּe֥d libּ֖o h֥u va'abadaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Pharaoh saw that the rain, hail, and thunder had stopped, he sinned even more. He and his officials hardened their hearts again.

וַיַּ֣רְא פַּרְעֹ֗ה כִּֽי־חָדַ֨ל הַמָּטָ֧ר וְהַבָּרָ֛ד וְהַקֹּלֹ֖ת וַיֹּ֣סֶף לַחֲטֹ֑א וַיַּכְבֵּ֥ד לִבּ֖וֹ ה֥וּא וַעֲבָדָֽיו׃

35
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּechezaq֙ le֣b pּare'o֔h velo֥ shshilּa֖ch 'et-bּene֣y yishsera'e֑l kּa'ashshe֛r dּibּe֥r yehva֖h bּeyad-moshsheֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Just as the LORD had predicted through Moses, Pharaoh’s heart remained stubborn and he would not let the Israelites go.

וַֽיֶּחֱזַק֙ לֵ֣ב פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְלֹ֥א שִׁלַּ֖ח אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה בְּיַד־מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ
