Ezekiel

Chapter 19
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּah֙ shsa֣ qiyna֔h 'el-neshsiy'e֖y yishsera'eֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover take you up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

וְאַתָּה֙ שָׂ֣א קִינָ֔ה אֶל־נְשִׂיאֵ֖י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'amaretּa֗ ma֤h 'imּeka֙ lebiyּa֔ bּe֥yn 'aray֖ot raba֑tzah bּet֥oke kּepiri֖ym ribּeta֥h gureֽyha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And say, "What is your mother? A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions."

וְאָמַרְתָּ֗ מָ֤ה אִמְּךָ֙ לְבִיָּ֔א בֵּ֥ין אֲרָי֖וֹת רָבָ֑צָה בְּת֥וֹךְ כְּפִרִ֖ים רִבְּתָ֥ה גוּרֶֽיהָ׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּa֛'al 'echa֥d migּure֖yha kּepi֣yr haya֑h vayּilema֥d literap-te֖rep 'ada֥m 'akaֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men.

וַתַּ֛עַל אֶחָ֥ד מִגֻּרֶ֖יהָ כְּפִ֣יר הָיָ֑ה וַיִּלְמַ֥ד לִטְרָף־טֶ֖רֶף אָדָ֥ם אָכָֽל׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsheme'֥u 'ela֛yv gּoyi֖m bּeshshachetּa֣m nitepּa֑shs vayebi'u֥hu baֽchachi֖ym 'el-'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains to the land of Egypt.

וַיִּשְׁמְע֥וּ אֵלָ֛יו גּוֹיִ֖ם בְּשַׁחְתָּ֣ם נִתְפָּ֑שׂ וַיְבִאֻ֥הוּ בַֽחַחִ֖ים אֶל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּe֨re'֙ kּi֣y nֽochala֔h 'abeda֖h tּiqevata֑hּ vatּiqּa֛ch 'echa֥d migּure֖yha kּepi֥yr shsamaֽtehu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.

וַתֵּ֨רֶא֙ כִּ֣י נֽוֹחֲלָ֔ה אָבְדָ֖ה תִּקְוָתָ֑הּ וַתִּקַּ֛ח אֶחָ֥ד מִגֻּרֶ֖יהָ כְּפִ֥יר שָׂמָֽתְהוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitehalּe֥ke bּetoke-'aray֖ot kּepi֣yr haya֑h vayּilema֥d literap-te֖rep 'ada֥m 'akaֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men.

וַיִּתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ בְּתוֹךְ־אֲרָי֖וֹת כְּפִ֣יר הָיָ֑ה וַיִּלְמַ֥ד לִטְרָף־טֶ֖רֶף אָדָ֥ם אָכָֽל׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֨da'֙ 'alemenota֔yv ve'areyhe֖m hecheri֑yb vatּe֤shsham 'e֨retz֙ umelo'a֔hּ miqּ֖ol shsha'agatֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And he knew their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, by the noise of his roaring.

וַיֵּ֨דַע֙ אַלְמְנוֹתָ֔יו וְעָרֵיהֶ֖ם הֶחֱרִ֑יב וַתֵּ֤שַׁם אֶ֨רֶץ֙ וּמְלֹאָ֔הּ מִקּ֖וֹל שַׁאֲגָתֽוֹ׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּitּen֨u 'ala֥yv gּoyi֛m sabi֖yb mimּediyn֑ot vaֽyּipereshs֥u 'ala֛yv rishshetּa֖m bּeshshachetּa֥m nitepּaֽshs׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken in their pit.

וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ עָלָ֥יו גּוֹיִ֛ם סָבִ֖יב מִמְּדִינ֑וֹת וַֽיִּפְרְשׂ֥וּ עָלָ֛יו רִשְׁתָּ֖ם בְּשַׁחְתָּ֥ם נִתְפָּֽשׂ׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyּitּenu֤hu basּugar֙ bּaֽchachi֔ym vayebi'u֖hu 'el-me֣leke bּabe֑l yebi'u֨hu֙ bּamּetzod֔ot lema֗'an lo'-yishshּama֥ qol֛o '֖od 'el-hare֥y yishsera'eֽl׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)And they put him in ward in chains, and brought him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

וַֽיִּתְּנֻ֤הוּ בַסּוּגַר֙ בַּֽחַחִ֔ים וַיְבִאֻ֖הוּ אֶל־מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֑ל יְבִאֻ֨הוּ֙ בַּמְּצֹד֔וֹת לְמַ֗עַן לֹא־יִשָּׁמַ֥ע קוֹל֛וֹ ע֖וֹד אֶל־הָרֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃פ

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): imּeka֥ kagּe֛pen bּedameka֖ 'al-ma֣yim shshetula֑h pּoֽriyּah֙ vaֽ'anepa֔h hayeta֖h mimּa֥yim rabּiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Your mother is like a vine in your blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

אִמְּךָ֥ כַגֶּ֛פֶן בְּדָמְךָ֖ עַל־מַ֣יִם שְׁתוּלָ֑ה פֹּֽרִיָּה֙ וַֽעֲנֵפָ֔ה הָיְתָ֖ה מִמַּ֥יִם רַבִּֽים׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiֽheyu-la֞hּ matּ֣ot 'o֗z 'el-shshibetey֙ moֽshsheli֔ym vatּigebּa֥hּ qֽomat֖o 'al-bּe֣yn 'aboti֑ym vayּera֣ begabeh֔o bּero֖b dּaliyּotaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches.

וַיִּֽהְיוּ־לָ֞הּ מַטּ֣וֹת עֹ֗ז אֶל־שִׁבְטֵי֙ מֹֽשְׁלִ֔ים וַתִּגְבַּ֥הּ קֽוֹמָת֖וֹ עַל־בֵּ֣ין עֲבֹתִ֑ים וַיֵּרָ֣א בְגָבְה֔וֹ בְּרֹ֖ב דָּלִיֹּתָֽיו׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּutּa֤shsh bּechemah֙ la'a֣retz hushshela֔kah ver֥ucha haqּadi֖ym hobi֣yshsh pּireya֑hּ hitepּareq֧u veyabe֛shshu matּe֥h 'uzּa֖hּ 'e֥shsh 'akalaֽtehu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them.

וַתֻּתַּ֤שׁ בְּחֵמָה֙ לָאָ֣רֶץ הֻשְׁלָ֔כָה וְר֥וּחַ הַקָּדִ֖ים הוֹבִ֣ישׁ פִּרְיָ֑הּ הִתְפָּרְק֧וּ וְיָבֵ֛שׁוּ מַטֵּ֥ה עֻזָּ֖הּ אֵ֥שׁ אֲכָלָֽתְהוּ׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֖h shshetula֣h bamּidebּa֑r bּe'e֖retz tziyּa֥h vetzamaֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.

וְעַתָּ֖ה שְׁתוּלָ֣ה בַמִּדְבָּ֑ר בְּאֶ֖רֶץ צִיָּ֥ה וְצָמָֽא׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּetze֨ 'e֜shsh mimּatּe֤h badּe֨yha֙ pּireya֣hּ 'aka֔lah velo'-ha֥yah ba֛hּ matּeh-'o֖z shshe֣bet limeshsh֑ol qi֥ynah hi֖y vatּehi֥y leqiynaֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches, which has devoured her fruit, so that she has no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

וַתֵּצֵ֨א אֵ֜שׁ מִמַּטֵּ֤ה בַדֶּ֨יהָ֙ פִּרְיָ֣הּ אָכָ֔לָה וְלֹא־הָ֥יָה בָ֛הּ מַטֵּה־עֹ֖ז שֵׁ֣בֶט לִמְשׁ֑וֹל קִ֥ינָה הִ֖יא וַתְּהִ֥י לְקִינָֽה׃פ
