Chapter 23

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֥y debar-yehva֖h 'ela֥y le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,

וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּen-'ada֑m shshetּa֣yim nashshi֔ym bּen֥ot 'em-'acha֖t hayֽu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:"

בֶּן־אָדָ֑ם שְׁתַּ֣יִם נָשִׁ֔ים בְּנ֥וֹת אֵם־אַחַ֖ת הָיֽוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּizene֣ynah bemitzera֔yim bּine'ureyhe֖n zan֑u shsha֚mּah mo'ak֣u shshedeyhe֔n veshsha֣m 'ishsּ֔u dּadּe֖y bּetuleyheֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity."

וַתִּזְנֶ֣ינָה בְמִצְרַ֔יִם בִּנְעוּרֵיהֶ֖ן זָנ֑וּ שָׁ֚מָּה מֹעֲכ֣וּ שְׁדֵיהֶ֔ן וְשָׁ֣ם עִשּׂ֔וּ דַּדֵּ֖י בְּתוּלֵיהֶֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ushshemota֗n 'ahola֤h hagּedolah֙ ve'aholiyba֣h 'achota֔hּ vatּiֽheye֣ynah li֔y vatּela֖denah bּani֣ym uban֑ot ushshemota֕n shshomer֣on 'ahola֔h viyrushshala֖im 'aholiybaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And the names of them were Oholah the elder, and Oholibah her sister: and they were Mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem Oholibah."

וּשְׁמוֹתָ֗ן אָהֳלָ֤ה הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ וְאָהֳלִיבָ֣ה אֲחוֹתָ֔הּ וַתִּֽהְיֶ֣ינָה לִ֔י וַתֵּלַ֖דְנָה בָּנִ֣ים וּבָנ֑וֹת וּשְׁמוֹתָ֕ן שֹׁמְר֣וֹן אָהֳלָ֔ה וִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם אָהֳלִיבָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּi֥zen 'ahola֖h tּachetּa֑y vatּa'egּab֙ 'aֽl-me'ahabe֔yha 'el-'ashshּ֖ur qerobiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And Oholah played the harlot when she was Mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,"

וַתִּ֥זֶן אָהֳלָ֖ה תַּחְתָּ֑י וַתַּעְגַּב֙ עַֽל־מְאַהֲבֶ֔יהָ אֶל־אַשּׁ֖וּר קְרוֹבִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lebushshe֤y teke֨let֙ pּach֣ot usegani֔ym bּach֥urey che֖med kּulּa֑m pּarashshi֕ym rokebe֖y susiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses."

לְבֻשֵׁ֤י תְכֵ֨לֶת֙ פַּח֣וֹת וּסְגָנִ֔ים בַּח֥וּרֵי חֶ֖מֶד כֻּלָּ֑ם פָּרָשִׁ֕ים רֹכְבֵ֖י סוּסִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּitּe֤n tּazenute֨yha֙ 'aleyhe֔m mibecha֥r bּeneֽy-'ashshּ֖ur kּulּa֑m ubeko֧l 'ashsher-'ֽageba֛h bּekal-gּilּuleyhe֖m nitemaֽ'ah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she doted: with all their idols she defiled herself."

וַתִּתֵּ֤ן תַּזְנוּתֶ֨יהָ֙ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם מִבְחַ֥ר בְּנֵֽי־אַשּׁ֖וּר כֻּלָּ֑ם וּבְכֹ֧ל אֲשֶׁר־עָֽגְבָ֛ה בְּכָל־גִּלּוּלֵיהֶ֖ם נִטְמָֽאָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'et-tּazenute֤yha mimּitzera֨yim֙ lo֣ 'aza֔bah kּi֤y 'otahּ֙ shshakeb֣u bine'ure֔yha vehe֥mּah 'ishsּ֖u dּadּe֣y betule֑yha vayּishshepּek֥u tazenuta֖m 'aleֽyha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Neither left she her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in her youth they lay with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured their whoredom upon her."

וְאֶת־תַּזְנוּתֶ֤יהָ מִמִּצְרַ֨יִם֙ לֹ֣א עָזָ֔בָה כִּ֤י אוֹתָהּ֙ שָׁכְב֣וּ בִנְעוּרֶ֔יהָ וְהֵ֥מָּה עִשּׂ֖וּ דַּדֵּ֣י בְתוּלֶ֑יהָ וַיִּשְׁפְּכ֥וּ תַזְנוּתָ֖ם עָלֶֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֥n netatּi֖yha bּeyad-me'aֽhabe֑yha bּeyad֙ bּene֣y 'ashshּ֔ur 'ashshe֥r 'ageba֖h 'aleyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted."

לָכֵ֥ן נְתַתִּ֖יהָ בְּיַד־מְאַֽהֲבֶ֑יהָ בְּיַד֙ בְּנֵ֣י אַשּׁ֔וּר אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָגְבָ֖ה עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hemּah֮ gּilּ֣u 'erevatahּ֒ bּane֤yha ubenote֨yha֙ laqa֔chu ve'ota֖hּ bּache֣reb hara֑gu vatּehiy-shshem֙ lanּashshi֔ym ushsheputi֖ym 'a֥shsu baֽhּ׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women; for they had executed judgement upon her."

הֵמָּה֮ גִּלּ֣וּ עֶרְוָתָהּ֒ בָּנֶ֤יהָ וּבְנוֹתֶ֨יהָ֙ לָקָ֔חוּ וְאוֹתָ֖הּ בַּחֶ֣רֶב הָרָ֑גוּ וַתְּהִי־שֵׁם֙ לַנָּשִׁ֔ים וּשְׁפוּטִ֖ים עָ֥שׂוּ בָֽהּ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּe֨re'֙ 'achota֣hּ 'aholiyba֔h vatּashsheche֥t 'agebata֖hּ mimּe֑nּah ve'et-tּa֨zenute֔yha mizּenune֖y 'achotaֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And when her sister Oholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her whoredoms."

וַתֵּ֨רֶא֙ אֲחוֹתָ֣הּ אָהֳלִיבָ֔ה וַתַּשְׁחֵ֥ת עַגְבָתָ֖הּ מִמֶּ֑נָּה וְאֶת־תַּ֨זְנוּתֶ֔יהָ מִזְּנוּנֵ֖י אֲחוֹתָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): el-bּeney֩ 'ashshּ֨ur 'aga֜bah pּach֨ot usegani֤ym qerobiym֙ lebushshe֣y mikel֔ol pּarashshi֖ym rokebe֣y susi֑ym bּach֥urey che֖med kּulּaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"She doted upon the Assyrians her neighbours, captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable young men."

אֶל־בְּנֵי֩ אַשּׁ֨וּר עָגָ֜בָה פַּח֨וֹת וּסְגָנִ֤ים קְרֹבִים֙ לְבֻשֵׁ֣י מִכְל֔וֹל פָּרָשִׁ֖ים רֹכְבֵ֣י סוּסִ֑ים בַּח֥וּרֵי חֶ֖מֶד כֻּלָּֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'e֖re kּi֣y nitema֑'ah dּe֥reke 'echa֖d lishshetּeyheֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way,"

וָאֵ֖רֶא כִּ֣י נִטְמָ֑אָה דֶּ֥רֶךְ אֶחָ֖ד לִשְׁתֵּיהֶֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּ֖osep 'el-tּazenute֑yha vatּe֗re 'aneshshey֙ mechuqּe֣h 'al-haqּi֔yr tzaleme֣y kshdyym kashsedּi֔ym chaquqi֖ym bּashshּashshaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men portrayed upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion,"

וַתּ֖וֹסֶף אֶל־תַּזְנוּתֶ֑יהָ וַתֵּ֗רֶא אַנְשֵׁי֙ מְחֻקֶּ֣ה עַל־הַקִּ֔יר צַלְמֵ֣י כשדיים כַשְׂדִּ֔ים חֲקֻקִ֖ים בַּשָּׁשַֽׁר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): chagore֨y 'ez֜or bּemateneyhe֗m seruche֤y tebuliym֙ bּera֣'shsheyhe֔m mare'e֥h shshalishshi֖ym kּulּa֑m dּem֤ut bּeneֽy-babel֙ kּashsedּi֔ym 'e֖retz moladetּaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity:"

חֲגוֹרֵ֨י אֵז֜וֹר בְּמָתְנֵיהֶ֗ם סְרוּחֵ֤י טְבוּלִים֙ בְּרָ֣אשֵׁיהֶ֔ם מַרְאֵ֥ה שָׁלִשִׁ֖ים כֻּלָּ֑ם דְּמ֤וּת בְּנֵֽי־בָבֶל֙ כַּשְׂדִּ֔ים אֶ֖רֶץ מוֹלַדְתָּֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vt'gb vatּa'egּeba֥h 'aleyhe֖m lemare'e֣h 'eyne֑yha vatּishshela֧ch male'aki֛ym 'aleyhe֖m kּashsedּiֽymah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted upon them, and sent messengers to them into Chaldea."

ותעגב וַתַּעְגְּבָ֥ה עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַרְאֵ֣ה עֵינֶ֑יהָ וַתִּשְׁלַ֧ח מַלְאָכִ֛ים אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם כַּשְׂדִּֽימָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֨'u 'ele֤yha beneֽy-babel֙ lemishshekּa֣b dּodi֔ym vayetamּe'֥u 'ota֖hּ bּetazenuta֑m vatּi֨tema'-ba֔m vatּe֥qa napeshsha֖hּ meheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them."

וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ אֵלֶ֤יהָ בְנֵֽי־בָבֶל֙ לְמִשְׁכַּ֣ב דֹּדִ֔ים וַיְטַמְּא֥וּ אוֹתָ֖הּ בְּתַזְנוּתָ֑ם וַתִּ֨טְמָא־בָ֔ם וַתֵּ֥קַע נַפְשָׁ֖הּ מֵהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּegal֙ tּazenute֔yha vatּega֖l 'et-'erevata֑hּ vatּe֤qa napeshshiy֙ meֽ'ale֔yha kּa'ashshe֛r naqe'a֥h napeshshi֖y me'a֥l 'achotaֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then My mind was alienated from her, like as My mind was alienated from her sister."

וַתְּגַל֙ תַּזְנוּתֶ֔יהָ וַתְּגַ֖ל אֶת־עֶרְוָתָ֑הּ וַתֵּ֤קַע נַפְשִׁי֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יהָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר נָקְעָ֥ה נַפְשִׁ֖י מֵעַ֥ל אֲחוֹתָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּarebּe֖h 'et-tּazenute֑yha lizekּor֙ 'et-yeme֣y ne'ure֔yha 'ashshe֥r zaneta֖h bּe'e֥retz mitzeraֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt."

וַתַּרְבֶּ֖ה אֶת־תַּזְנוּתֶ֑יהָ לִזְכֹּר֙ אֶת־יְמֵ֣י נְעוּרֶ֔יהָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר זָנְתָ֖ה בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽtּa'egּeba֔h 'a֖l pּiֽlageshsheyhe֑m 'ashshe֤r bּeshsar-chamoriym֙ bּeshsara֔m vezirema֥t susi֖ym ziremataֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses."

וַֽתַּעְגְּבָ֔ה עַ֖ל פִּֽלַגְשֵׁיהֶ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר בְּשַׂר־חֲמוֹרִים֙ בְּשָׂרָ֔ם וְזִרְמַ֥ת סוּסִ֖ים זִרְמָתָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽtּipeqedi֔y 'e֖t zimּa֣t ne'ura֑yike bּa'eshs֤ot mimּitzera֨yim֙ dּadּa֔yike lema֖'an shshede֥y ne'uraֽyike׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"Thus you calledst to remembrance the lewdness of your youth, in bruising your teats by the Egyptians for the paps of your youth."

וַֽתִּפְקְדִ֔י אֵ֖ת זִמַּ֣ת נְעוּרָ֑יִךְ בַּעְשׂ֤וֹת מִמִּצְרַ֨יִם֙ דַּדַּ֔יִךְ לְמַ֖עַן שְׁדֵ֥י נְעוּרָֽיִךְ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֣n 'aholiyba֗h kּoֽh-'amar֮ 'adona֣y yehvih֒ hineni֨y me'i֤yr 'et-me'ahaba֨yike֙ 'ala֔yike 'e֛t 'ashsher-naqe'a֥h napeshshe֖ke mehe֑m vahabe'ti֥ym 'ala֖yike misּabiֽyb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, O Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom your mind is alienated, and I will bring them against you on every side;"

לָכֵ֣ן אָהֳלִיבָ֗ה כֹּֽה־אָמַר֮ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִה֒ הִנְנִ֨י מֵעִ֤יר אֶת־מְאַהֲבַ֨יִךְ֙ עָלַ֔יִךְ אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־נָקְעָ֥ה נַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ מֵהֶ֑ם וַהֲבֵאתִ֥ים עָלַ֖יִךְ מִסָּבִֽיב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּene֧y babe֣l vekal-kּashsedּi֗ym pּeq֤od veshsh֨o'a֙ veq֔o'a kּal-bּene֥y 'ashshּ֖ur 'ota֑m bּach֨urey che֜med pּach֤ot useganiym֙ kּulּa֔m shshaֽlishshiym֙ uqeru'i֔ym rokebe֥y susi֖ym kּulּaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses."

בְּנֵ֧י בָבֶ֣ל וְכָל־כַּשְׂדִּ֗ים פְּק֤וֹד וְשׁ֨וֹעַ֙ וְק֔וֹעַ כָּל־בְּנֵ֥י אַשּׁ֖וּר אוֹתָ֑ם בַּח֨וּרֵי חֶ֜מֶד פַּח֤וֹת וּסְגָנִים֙ כֻּלָּ֔ם שָֽׁלִשִׁים֙ וּקְרוּאִ֔ים רֹכְבֵ֥י סוּסִ֖ים כֻּלָּֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): uba֣'u 'ala֡yike ho֠tzen re֤keb vegalegּal֙ ubiqeha֣l 'amּi֔ym tzinּa֤h umagen֙ veqoba֔ yashsi֥ymu 'ala֖yike sabi֑yb venatatּi֤y lipeneyhem֙ mishshepּa֔t ushshepat֖uke bּemishshepּeteyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And they shall come against you with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against you buckler and shield and helmet round about: and I will set judgement before them, and they shall judge you according to their judgements."

וּבָ֣אוּ עָלַ֡יִךְ הֹ֠צֶן רֶ֤כֶב וְגַלְגַּל֙ וּבִקְהַ֣ל עַמִּ֔ים צִנָּ֤ה וּמָגֵן֙ וְקוֹבַ֔ע יָשִׂ֥ימוּ עָלַ֖יִךְ סָבִ֑יב וְנָתַתִּ֤י לִפְנֵיהֶם֙ מִשְׁפָּ֔ט וּשְׁפָט֖וּךְ בְּמִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venatatּi֨y qine'ati֜y bּa֗ke ve'ashs֤u 'otake֙ bּechema֔h 'apּe֤ke ve'azena֨yike֙ yasi֔yru ve'achariyte֖ke bּache֣reb tּipּ֑ol he֗mּah bּana֤yike ubenota֨yike֙ yiqּa֔chu ve'achariyte֖ke tּe'ake֥l bּa'eֽshsh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And I will set My jealousy against you, and they shall deal furiously with you: they shall take away your nose and your ears; and your remnant shall fall by the sword: they shall take your sons and your daughters; and your residue shall be devoured by the fire."

וְנָתַתִּ֨י קִנְאָתִ֜י בָּ֗ךְ וְעָשׂ֤וּ אוֹתָךְ֙ בְּחֵמָ֔ה אַפֵּ֤ךְ וְאָזְנַ֨יִךְ֙ יָסִ֔ירוּ וְאַחֲרִיתֵ֖ךְ בַּחֶ֣רֶב תִּפּ֑וֹל הֵ֗מָּה בָּנַ֤יִךְ וּבְנוֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ יִקָּ֔חוּ וְאַחֲרִיתֵ֖ךְ תֵּאָכֵ֥ל בָּאֵֽשׁ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehipeshshiyt֖uke 'et-bּegada֑yike velaqech֖u kּele֥y tipe'aretּeֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"They shall also strip you out of your clothes, and take away your fair jewels."

וְהִפְשִׁיט֖וּךְ אֶת־בְּגָדָ֑יִךְ וְלָקְח֖וּ כְּלֵ֥י תִפְאַרְתֵּֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehishshebּatּi֤y zimּateke֙ mimּe֔ke ve'et-zenute֖ke me'e֣retz mitzera֑yim veloֽ'-tishse'i֤y 'eyna֨yike֙ 'aleyhe֔m umitzera֖yim lo֥ tizekּeriy-'ֽod׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"Thus will I make your lewdness to cease from you, and your whoredom brought from the land of Egypt: so that you shall not lift up your eyes to them, nor remember Egypt anymore."

וְהִשְׁבַּתִּ֤י זִמָּתֵךְ֙ מִמֵּ֔ךְ וְאֶת־זְנוּתֵ֖ךְ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם וְלֹֽא־תִשְׂאִ֤י עֵינַ֨יִךְ֙ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וּמִצְרַ֖יִם לֹ֥א תִזְכְּרִי־עֽוֹד׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y ko֤h 'amar֙ 'adona֣y yehvi֔h hineniy֙ noֽtena֔ke bּeya֖d 'ashshe֣r shsane֑'t bּeya֛d 'ashsher-naqe'a֥h napeshshe֖ke meheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will deliver you into the hand of them whom you hatest, into the hand of them from whom your mind is alienated:"

כִּ֣י כֹ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה הִנְנִי֙ נֹֽתְנָ֔ךְ בְּיַ֖ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׂנֵ֑את בְּיַ֛ד אֲשֶׁר־נָקְעָ֥ה נַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ מֵהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ashs֨u 'ota֜ke bּeshsine'a֗h velaqechu֙ kּal-yegiy'e֔ke va'azab֖uke 'eyro֣m ve'ereya֑h venigelah֙ 'ereva֣t zenuna֔yike vezimּate֖ke vetazenutaֽyike׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And they shall deal with you hatefully, and shall take away all your labour, and shall leave you naked and bare: and the nakedness of your whoredoms shall be discovered, both your lewdness and your whoredoms."

וְעָשׂ֨וּ אוֹתָ֜ךְ בְּשִׂנְאָ֗ה וְלָקְחוּ֙ כָּל־יְגִיעֵ֔ךְ וַעֲזָב֖וּךְ עֵירֹ֣ם וְעֶרְיָ֑ה וְנִגְלָה֙ עֶרְוַ֣ת זְנוּנַ֔יִךְ וְזִמָּתֵ֖ךְ וְתַזְנוּתָֽיִךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ashso֥h 'e֖lּeh la֑ke bּizenoteke֙ 'achare֣y goyi֔m 'a֥l 'ashsher-niteme֖'t bּegilּuleyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"I will do these things to you, because you hast gone a whoring after the heathen, and because you are polluted with their idols."

עָשֹׂ֥ה אֵ֖לֶּה לָ֑ךְ בִּזְנוֹתֵךְ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י גוֹיִ֔ם עַ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־נִטְמֵ֖את בְּגִלּוּלֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּede֥reke 'achote֖ke hala֑ketּe venatatּi֥y kosa֖hּ bּeyadeֽke׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"You hast walked in the way of your sister; therefore will I give her cup into your hand."

בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ אֲחוֹתֵ֖ךְ הָלָ֑כְתְּ וְנָתַתִּ֥י כוֹסָ֖הּ בְּיָדֵֽךְ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֤h 'amar֙ 'adona֣y yehovi֔h kּ֤os 'achoteke֙ tּishshetּi֔y ha'amuqּa֖h veharechaba֑h tּiheye֥h litzecho֛q ulela֖'ag mirebּa֥h lehakiֽyl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Thus says the Lord GOD; "You shall drink of your sister's cup deep and large: you shall be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it contains much."

כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהֹוִ֔ה כּ֤וֹס אֲחוֹתֵךְ֙ תִּשְׁתִּ֔י הָעֲמֻקָּ֖ה וְהָרְחָבָ֑ה תִּהְיֶ֥ה לִצְחֹ֛ק וּלְלַ֖עַג מִרְבָּ֥ה לְהָכִֽיל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshikּar֥on veyag֖on tּimּale֑'iy kּ֚os shshamּa֣h ushshemama֔h kּ֖os 'achote֥ke shshomerֽon׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"You shall be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the cup of your sister Samaria."

שִׁכָּר֥וֹן וְיָג֖וֹן תִּמָּלֵ֑אִי כּ֚וֹס שַׁמָּ֣ה וּשְׁמָמָ֔ה כּ֖וֹס אֲחוֹתֵ֥ךְ שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshati֨yt 'ota֜hּ umatzi֗yt ve'et-charashse֛yha tּegare֖miy veshshada֣yike tּenatּe֑qiy kּi֚y 'ani֣y dibּa֔retּiy ne'u֖m 'adona֥y yehviֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"You shall even drink it and suck it out, and you shall break the sherds thereof, and pluck off your own breasts: for I have spoken it," says the Lord GOD.

וְשָׁתִ֨ית אוֹתָ֜הּ וּמָצִ֗ית וְאֶת־חֲרָשֶׂ֛יהָ תְּגָרֵ֖מִי וְשָׁדַ֣יִךְ תְּנַתֵּ֑קִי כִּ֚י אֲנִ֣י דִבַּ֔רְתִּי נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֗n kּo֤h 'amar֙ 'adona֣y yehvi֔h ya֚'an shshaka֣chatּe 'oti֔y vatּashsheli֥ykiy 'oti֖y 'achare֣y gaue֑ke vegam-'a֛tּe shse'i֥y zimּate֖ke ve'et-tּazenutaֽyike׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you hast forgotten Me, and cast Me behind your back, therefore bear you also your lewdness and your whoredoms."

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה יַ֚עַן שָׁכַ֣חַתְּ אוֹתִ֔י וַתַּשְׁלִ֥יכִי אוֹתִ֖י אַחֲרֵ֣י גַוֵּ֑ךְ וְגַם־אַ֛תְּ שְׂאִ֥י זִמָּתֵ֖ךְ וְאֶת־תַּזְנוּתָֽיִךְ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'ela֔y bּen-'ada֕m hatishshepּ֥ot 'eֽt-'ahola֖h ve'et-'aholiyba֑h vehagּe֣d lahe֔n 'e֖t to'aboteyheֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said moreover to me; "Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? yes, declare to them their abominations;"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י בֶּן־אָדָ֕ם הֲתִשְׁפּ֥וֹט אֶֽת־אָהֳלָ֖ה וְאֶת־אָהֳלִיבָ֑ה וְהַגֵּ֣ד לָהֶ֔ן אֵ֖ת תוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y ni'e֗pu vedam֙ bּiֽydeyhe֔n ve'et-gּilּֽuleyhe֖n ni'e֑pu vega֤m 'et-bּeneyhen֙ 'ashshe֣r yaֽledu-li֔y he'ebi֥yru lahe֖m le'akelaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare to Me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them."

כִּ֣י נִאֵ֗פוּ וְדָם֙ בִּֽידֵיהֶ֔ן וְאֶת־גִּלּֽוּלֵיהֶ֖ן נִאֵ֑פוּ וְגַ֤ם אֶת־בְּנֵיהֶן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָֽלְדוּ־לִ֔י הֶעֱבִ֥ירוּ לָהֶ֖ם לְאָכְלָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ֥od zo֖'t 'a֣shsu li֑y timּe'֤u 'et-miqedּashshiy֙ bּayּ֣om hah֔u ve'et-shshabּetota֖y chilּeֽlu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Moreover this they have done to Me: they have defiled My sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned My sabbaths."

ע֥וֹד זֹ֖את עָ֣שׂוּ לִ֑י טִמְּא֤וּ אֶת־מִקְדָּשִׁי֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא וְאֶת־שַׁבְּתוֹתַ֖י חִלֵּֽלוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): uֽbeshshachata֤m 'et-bּeneyhem֙ legilּ֣uleyhe֔m vayּabo֧'u 'el-miqedּashshi֛y bּayּ֥om hah֖u lechalּel֑o vehinּeh-ko֥h 'ashs֖u bּet֥oke bּeytiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into My sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of Mine house."

וּֽבְשַׁחֲטָ֤ם אֶת־בְּנֵיהֶם֙ לְגִלּ֣וּלֵיהֶ֔ם וַיָּבֹ֧אוּ אֶל־מִקְדָּשִׁ֛י בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא לְחַלְּל֑וֹ וְהִנֵּה־כֹ֥ה עָשׂ֖וּ בְּת֥וֹךְ בֵּיתִֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֗p kּi֤y tishshela֨chenah֙ laֽ'anashshi֔ym bּa'i֖ym mimּerecha֑q 'ashshe֨r male'a֜ke shshal֤ucha 'aleyhem֙ vehinּeh-ba֔'u la'ashshe֥r racha֛tzetּe kּacha֥letּe 'eyna֖yike ve'a֥diyt 'eֽdiy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And furthermore, that you have sent for men to come from far, to whom a messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom you did wash yourself, paintedst your eyes, and deckedst yourself with ornaments,"

וְאַ֗ף כִּ֤י תִשְׁלַ֨חְנָה֙ לַֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים בָּאִ֖ים מִמֶּרְחָ֑ק אֲשֶׁ֨ר מַלְאָ֜ךְ שָׁל֤וּחַ אֲלֵיהֶם֙ וְהִנֵּה־בָ֔אוּ לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר רָחַ֛צְתְּ כָּחַ֥לְתְּ עֵינַ֖יִךְ וְעָ֥דִית עֶֽדִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyashshabetּe֙ 'al-mitּa֣h kebudּa֔h veshshulecha֥n 'ar֖uke lepane֑yha uqetaretּi֥y veshshameni֖y shsa֥metּe 'aleֽyha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And sattest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, whereupon you hast set Mine incense and Mine oil."

וְיָשַׁבְתְּ֙ עַל־מִטָּ֣ה כְבוּדָּ֔ה וְשֻׁלְחָ֥ן עָר֖וּךְ לְפָנֶ֑יהָ וּקְטָרְתִּ֥י וְשַׁמְנִ֖י שַׂ֥מְתְּ עָלֶֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veq֣ol hamon֮ shshale֣v bahּ֒ ve'el-'anashshiym֙ mero֣b 'ada֔m muba'i֥ym svb'ym saba'i֖ym mimּidebּa֑r vaֽyּitּen֤u tzemiydiym֙ 'el-yedeyhe֔n va'ate֥ret tּipe'e֖ret 'al-ra'shsheyheֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads."

וְק֣וֹל הָמוֹן֮ שָׁלֵ֣ו בָהּ֒ וְאֶל־אֲנָשִׁים֙ מֵרֹ֣ב אָדָ֔ם מוּבָאִ֥ים סובאים סָבָאִ֖ים מִמִּדְבָּ֑ר וַֽיִּתְּנ֤וּ צְמִידִים֙ אֶל־יְדֵיהֶ֔ן וַעֲטֶ֥רֶת תִּפְאֶ֖רֶת עַל־רָאשֵׁיהֶֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'oma֕r labּala֖h niֽ'upi֑ym 't 'atּa֛h yznh yizen֥u tazenute֖ha vahiֽy'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Then said I to her that was old in adulteries, 'Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she with them?'"

וָאֹמַ֕ר לַבָּלָ֖ה נִֽאוּפִ֑ים עת עַתָּ֛ה יזנה יִזְנ֥וּ תַזְנוּתֶ֖הָ וָהִֽיא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּab֣o 'ele֔yha kּeb֖o 'el-'ishshּa֣h zona֑h kּe֣n bּa֗'u 'eֽl-'aֽholah֙ ve'el-'a֣holiyba֔h 'ishshּo֖t hazּimּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Yet they went in to her, as they go in to a woman that plays the harlot: so went they in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the lewd women."

וַיָּב֣וֹא אֵלֶ֔יהָ כְּב֖וֹא אֶל־אִשָּׁ֣ה זוֹנָ֑ה כֵּ֣ן בָּ֗אוּ אֶֽל־אָֽהֳלָה֙ וְאֶל־אָ֣הֳלִיבָ֔ה אִשֹּׁ֖ת הַזִּמָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'anashshi֣ym tzadּiyqi֗m he֚mּah yishshepּet֣u 'ֽotehe֔m mishshepּat֙ noֽ'ap֔ot umishshepּa֖t shshopek֣ot dּa֑m kּi֤y noֽ'apot֙ he֔nּah veda֖m bּiֽydeyheֽn׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands."

וַאֲנָשִׁ֣ים צַדִּיקִ֗ם הֵ֚מָּה יִשְׁפְּט֣וּ אֽוֹתְהֶ֔ם מִשְׁפַּט֙ נֹֽאֲפ֔וֹת וּמִשְׁפַּ֖ט שֹׁפְכ֣וֹת דָּ֑ם כִּ֤י נֹֽאֲפֹת֙ הֵ֔נָּה וְדָ֖ם בִּֽידֵיהֶֽן׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֛y kּo֥h 'ama֖r 'adona֣y yehvi֑h ha'ale֤h 'aleyhem֙ qaha֔l venato֥n 'etehe֖n leza'ava֥h velabaֽz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For thus says the Lord GOD; "I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and spoiled."

כִּ֛י כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה הַעֲלֵ֤ה עֲלֵיהֶם֙ קָהָ֔ל וְנָתֹ֥ן אֶתְהֶ֖ן לְזַעֲוָ֥ה וְלָבַֽז׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veragem֨u 'aleyhe֥n 'e֨ben֙ qaha֔l ubare֥ 'otehe֖n bּecharebota֑m bּeneyhe֤m ubenֽoteyhem֙ yaharo֔gu ubatּeyhe֖n bּa'e֥shsh yishseroֽpu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire."

וְרָגְמ֨וּ עֲלֵיהֶ֥ן אֶ֨בֶן֙ קָהָ֔ל וּבָרֵ֥א אוֹתְהֶ֖ן בְּחַרְבוֹתָ֑ם בְּנֵיהֶ֤ם וּבְנֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ יַהֲרֹ֔גוּ וּבָתֵּיהֶ֖ן בָּאֵ֥שׁ יִשְׂרֹֽפוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehishshebּatּi֥y zimּa֖h min-ha'a֑retz veniֽuasּeru֙ kּal-hanּashshi֔ym velo֥ ta'ashse֖ynah kּezimּatekeֽnah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness."

וְהִשְׁבַּתִּ֥י זִמָּ֖ה מִן־הָאָ֑רֶץ וְנִֽוַּסְּרוּ֙ כָּל־הַנָּשִׁ֔ים וְלֹ֥א תַעֲשֶׂ֖ינָה כְּזִמַּתְכֶֽנָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venaten֤u zimּateke֨nah֙ 'aleyke֔n vachata'e֥y gilּuleyke֖n tּishsּe֑'ynah viyda'etּe֕m kּi֥y 'ani֖y 'adona֥y yehviֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and you shall bear the sins of your idols: and you shall know that I am the Lord GOD."

וְנָתְנ֤וּ זִמַּתְכֶ֨נָה֙ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ן וַחֲטָאֵ֥י גִלּוּלֵיכֶ֖ן תִּשֶּׂ֑אינָה וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם כִּ֥י אֲנִ֖י אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃פ
