Chapter 13
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'al֩ 'abera֨m mimּitzera֜yim h֠u ve'ishshetּ֧o vekal-'ashsher-l֛o vel֥ot 'imּ֖o hanּeֽgebּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him.

וַיַּעַל֩ אַבְרָ֨ם מִמִּצְרַ֜יִם ה֠וּא וְאִשְׁתּ֧וֹ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֛וֹ וְל֥וֹט עִמּ֖וֹ הַנֶּֽגְבָּה׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'abera֖m kּabe֣d me'o֑d bּamּiqene֕h bּakּe֖sep ubazּahaֽb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Abram was extremely heavy (Kaved) in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

וְאַבְרָ֖ם כָּבֵ֣ד מְאֹ֑ד בַּמִּקְנֶ֕ה בַּכֶּ֖סֶף וּבַזָּהָֽב׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֨leke֙ lemasּa'a֔yv minּe֖geb ve'ad-bּeֽyt-'e֑l 'ad-hamּaq֗om 'ashsher-ha֨yah shsha֤m 'hlh 'ֽaholo֙ bּatּechilּa֔h bּe֥yn bּeֽyt-'e֖l ube֥yn ha'aֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ לְמַסָּעָ֔יו מִנֶּ֖גֶב וְעַד־בֵּֽית־אֵ֑ל עַד־הַמָּק֗וֹם אֲשֶׁר־הָ֨יָה שָׁ֤ם אהלה אָֽהֳלוֹ֙ בַּתְּחִלָּ֔ה בֵּ֥ין בֵּֽית־אֵ֖ל וּבֵ֥ין הָעָֽי׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): el-meqom֙ hamּizebּe֔cha 'ashsher-'a֥shsah shsha֖m bּari'shshona֑h vayּiqera֥ shsha֛m 'abera֖m bּeshshe֥m yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)to the place of the altar which he had made there at the beginning; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

אֶל־מְקוֹם֙ הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ אֲשֶׁר־עָ֥שָׂה שָׁ֖ם בָּרִאשֹׁנָ֑ה וַיִּקְרָ֥א שָׁ֛ם אַבְרָ֖ם בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָֽה׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vegam-lel֔ot hahole֖ke 'et-'abera֑m haya֥h tzo'n-ubaqa֖r ve'ohaliֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.

וְגַם־לְל֔וֹט הַהֹלֵ֖ךְ אֶת־אַבְרָ֑ם הָיָ֥ה צֹאן־וּבָקָ֖ר וְאֹהָלִֽים׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): velo'-nashsa֥ 'ota֛m ha'a֖retz lashshe֣bet yachedּa֑v kּiֽy-haya֤h rekushsham֙ ra֔b velo֥ yaֽkel֖u lashshe֥bet yachedּaֽv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But the land was not able to support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.

וְלֹא־נָשָׂ֥א אֹתָ֛ם הָאָ֖רֶץ לָשֶׁ֣בֶת יַחְדָּ֑ו כִּֽי־הָיָ֤ה רְכוּשָׁם֙ רָ֔ב וְלֹ֥א יָֽכְל֖וּ לָשֶׁ֥בֶת יַחְדָּֽו׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayehiy-ri֗yb bּe֚yn ro'e֣y miqeneֽh-'abera֔m ube֖yn ro'e֣y miqeneh-l֑ot vehaֽkּena'aniy֙ vehapּerizּi֔y 'a֖z yoshshe֥b bּa'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land.

וַֽיְהִי־רִ֗יב בֵּ֚ין רֹעֵ֣י מִקְנֵֽה־אַבְרָ֔ם וּבֵ֖ין רֹעֵ֣י מִקְנֵה־ל֑וֹט וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י אָ֖ז יֹשֵׁ֥ב בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer 'abera֜m 'el-l֗ot 'al-na֨ tehi֤y meriybah֙ bּeyni֣y ubeyne֔yka ube֥yn ro'a֖y ube֣yn ro'e֑yka kּiֽy-'anashshi֥ym 'achi֖ym 'anaֽchenu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between me and you, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אַבְרָ֜ם אֶל־ל֗וֹט אַל־נָ֨א תְהִ֤י מְרִיבָה֙ בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֔יךָ וּבֵ֥ין רֹעַ֖י וּבֵ֣ין רֹעֶ֑יךָ כִּֽי־אֲנָשִׁ֥ים אַחִ֖ים אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): halo֤ kal-ha'a֨retz֙ lepane֔yka hipּa֥red na֖ me'ala֑y 'im-hashsּemo֣'l ve'eymi֔nah ve'im-hayּami֖yn ve'ashseme'iֽylah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Is not the whole land before you? Please part company from me. If you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left."

הֲלֹ֤א כָל־הָאָ֨רֶץ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ הִפָּ֥רֶד נָ֖א מֵעָלָ֑י אִם־הַשְּׂמֹ֣אל וְאֵימִ֔נָה וְאִם־הַיָּמִ֖ין וְאַשְׂמְאִֽילָה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishsּa'-l֣ot 'et-'eyna֗yv vayּare'֙ 'et-kּal-kּikּa֣r hayּaredּe֔n kּi֥y kulּa֖hּ mashsheqe֑h lipene֣y ׀ shshache֣t yehva֗h 'et-sedom֙ ve'et-'amora֔h kּegan-yehvah֙ kּe'e֣retz mitzera֔yim bּo'aka֖h tzoֽ'ar׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the Garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

וַיִּשָּׂא־ל֣וֹט אֶת־עֵינָ֗יו וַיַּרְא֙ אֶת־כָּל־כִּכַּ֣ר הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן כִּ֥י כֻלָּ֖הּ מַשְׁקֶ֑ה לִפְנֵ֣י ׀ שַׁחֵ֣ת יְהוָ֗ה אֶת־סְדֹם֙ וְאֶת־עֲמֹרָ֔ה כְּגַן־יְהוָה֙ כְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם בֹּאֲכָ֖ה צֹֽעַר׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּibechar-l֣o l֗ot 'e֚t kּal-kּikּa֣r hayּaredּe֔n vayּisּa֥ l֖ot miqּe֑dem vayּipּa֣red֔u 'i֖yshsh me'a֥l 'achiֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other.

וַיִּבְחַר־ל֣וֹ ל֗וֹט אֵ֚ת כָּל־כִּכַּ֣ר הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן וַיִּסַּ֥ע ל֖וֹט מִקֶּ֑דֶם וַיִּפָּ֣רְד֔וּ אִ֖ישׁ מֵעַ֥ל אָחִֽיו׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): abera֖m yashsha֣b bּe'eֽretz-kּena֑'an vel֗ot yashshab֙ bּe'are֣y hakּikּa֔r vayּe'eha֖l 'ad-sedoֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom.

אַבְרָ֖ם יָשַׁ֣ב בְּאֶֽרֶץ־כְּנָ֑עַן וְל֗וֹט יָשַׁב֙ בְּעָרֵ֣י הַכִּכָּ֔ר וַיֶּאֱהַ֖ל עַד־סְדֹֽם׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'aneshshe֣y sedo֔m ra'i֖ym vechatּa'i֑ym layhva֖h me'oֽd׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the men of Sodom were wicked, and sinners exceedingly against the LORD.

וְאַנְשֵׁ֣י סְדֹ֔ם רָעִ֖ים וְחַטָּאִ֑ים לַיהוָ֖ה מְאֹֽד׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayhva֞h 'ama֣r 'el-'abera֗m 'acharey֙ hipּaֽred-l֣ot mֽe'imּ֔o shsa֣ na֤ 'eyne֨yka֙ ure'e֔h min-hamּaq֖om 'ashsher-'atּa֣h shsha֑m tzapo֥nah vane֖gebּah vaqe֥demah vayaֽmּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Lift up your eyes now and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;

וַֽיהוָ֞ה אָמַ֣ר אֶל־אַבְרָ֗ם אַחֲרֵי֙ הִפָּֽרֶד־ל֣וֹט מֵֽעִמּ֔וֹ שָׂ֣א נָ֤א עֵינֶ֨יךָ֙ וּרְאֵ֔ה מִן־הַמָּק֖וֹם אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֣ה שָׁ֑ם צָפֹ֥נָה וָנֶ֖גְבָּה וָקֵ֥דְמָה וָיָֽמָּה׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֧y 'et-kּal-ha'a֛retz 'ashsher-'atּa֥h ro'e֖h leka֣ 'etּene֑nּah uֽlezare'aka֖ 'ad-'olaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your seed forever.

כִּ֧י אֶת־כָּל־הָאָ֛רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֥ה רֹאֶ֖ה לְךָ֣ אֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה וּֽלְזַרְעֲךָ֖ עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsametּi֥y 'eֽt-zare'aka֖ kּa'apa֣r ha'a֑retz 'ashshe֣r ׀ 'im-yuka֣l 'i֗yshsh limenot֙ 'et-'apa֣r ha'a֔retz gּaֽm-zare'aka֖ yimּaneֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I will make your seed as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can count the dust of the earth, then your seed also can be counted.

וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י אֶֽת־זַרְעֲךָ֖ כַּעֲפַ֣ר הָאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ אִם־יוּכַ֣ל אִ֗ישׁ לִמְנוֹת֙ אֶת־עֲפַ֣ר הָאָ֔רֶץ גַּֽם־זַרְעֲךָ֖ יִמָּנֶֽה׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): q֚um hitehalּe֣ke bּa'a֔retz le'arekּa֖hּ ulerachebּa֑hּ kּi֥y leka֖ 'etּeneֽnּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Arise, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I will give it to you."

ק֚וּם הִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְ בָּאָ֔רֶץ לְאָרְכָּ֖הּ וּלְרָחְבָּ֑הּ כִּ֥י לְךָ֖ אֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe'eha֣l 'abera֗m vayּabo֛ vayּe֛shsheb bּe'elone֥y mamere֖ 'ashshe֣r bּecheber֑on vayּiֽben-shsha֥m mizebּe֖cha lֽayhvaֽh׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)So Abram moved his tent and came and lived by the great trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD.

וַיֶּאֱהַ֣ל אַבְרָ֗ם וַיָּבֹ֛א וַיֵּ֛שֶׁב בְּאֵלֹנֵ֥י מַמְרֵ֖א אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּחֶבְר֑וֹן וַיִּֽבֶן־שָׁ֥ם מִזְבֵּ֖חַ לַֽיהוָֽה׃פ
