Chapter 24
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'aberaha֣m zaqe֔n bּa֖ bּayּami֑ym vֽayhva֛h bּera֥ke 'et-'aberaha֖m bּakּoֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Abraham was now very old, and the LORD had blessed him in every way.

וְאַבְרָהָ֣ם זָקֵ֔ן בָּ֖א בַּיָּמִ֑ים וַֽיהוָ֛ה בֵּרַ֥ךְ אֶת־אַבְרָהָ֖ם בַּכֹּֽל׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer 'aberaha֗m 'el-'abedּo֙ zeqa֣n bּeyt֔o hamּoshshe֖l bּekal-'ashsher-l֑o shsiֽym-na֥ yadeka֖ tּa֥chat yerekiֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He said to the senior servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, "Please put your hand under my thigh.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְרָהָ֗ם אֶל־עַבְדּוֹ֙ זְקַ֣ן בֵּית֔וֹ הַמֹּשֵׁ֖ל בְּכָל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֑וֹ שִֽׂים־נָ֥א יָדְךָ֖ תַּ֥חַת יְרֵכִֽי׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ashshebּi֣y'aka֔ bּֽayhvah֙ 'elohe֣y hashshּama֔yim vֽe'lohe֖y ha'a֑retz 'ashshe֨r loֽ'-tiqּa֤ch 'ishshּah֙ libeni֔y mibּenot֙ haֽkּena'ani֔y 'ashshe֥r 'anoki֖y yoshshe֥b bּeqirebּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of the heavens and the God of the earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,

וְאַשְׁבִּ֣יעֲךָ֔ בַּֽיהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וֵֽאלֹהֵ֖י הָאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹֽא־תִקַּ֤ח אִשָּׁה֙ לִבְנִ֔י מִבְּנוֹת֙ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י יוֹשֵׁ֥ב בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֧y 'el-'aretzi֛y ve'el-moladetּi֖y tּele֑ke velaqachetּa֥ 'ishshּa֖h libeni֥y leyitzechaֽq׃
Edified Edition (EDE)but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac."

כִּ֧י אֶל־אַרְצִ֛י וְאֶל־מוֹלַדְתִּ֖י תֵּלֵ֑ךְ וְלָקַחְתָּ֥ אִשָּׁ֖ה לִבְנִ֥י לְיִצְחָֽק׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer 'elayv֙ ha'e֔bed 'ulay֙ lo'-to'be֣h haֽ'ishshּa֔h lale֥ket 'achara֖y 'el-ha'a֣retz hazּo֑'t heֽhashshe֤b 'ashshiyb֙ 'et-bּineka֔ 'el-ha'a֖retz 'ashsher-yatza֥'ta mishshּaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The servant asked him, "What if the woman is unwilling to come back with me to this land? Shall I then take your son back to the country you came from?"

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ הָעֶ֔בֶד אוּלַי֙ לֹא־תֹאבֶ֣ה הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה לָלֶ֥כֶת אַחֲרַ֖י אֶל־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את הֶֽהָשֵׁ֤ב אָשִׁיב֙ אֶת־בִּנְךָ֔ אֶל־הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יָצָ֥אתָ מִשָּֽׁם׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֥'mer 'ela֖yv 'aberaha֑m hishshּa֣mer leka֔ pּen-tּashshi֥yb 'et-bּeni֖y shshaֽmּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Make sure that you do not take my son back there," Abraham said.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֵלָ֖יו אַבְרָהָ֑ם הִשָּׁ֣מֶר לְךָ֔ פֶּן־תָּשִׁ֥יב אֶת־בְּנִ֖י שָֽׁמָּה׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): yehva֣h ׀ 'elohe֣y hashshּama֗yim 'ashshe֨r leqacha֜niy mibּe֣yt 'abiy֮ ume'e֣retz mֽoladetּiy֒ va'ashshe֨r dּibּer-li֜y va'ashshe֤r niֽshshebּaֽ'-liy֙ le'mo֔r leza֨re'aka֔ 'etּe֖n 'et-ha'a֣retz hazּo֑'t h֗u yishshela֤ch male'ako֙ lepane֔yka velaqachetּa֥ 'ishshּa֛h libeni֖y mishshּaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"The LORD, the God of the heavens, who brought me out of my father's house and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, 'To your offspring I will give this land', He will send His angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there.

יְהוָ֣ה ׀ אֱלֹהֵ֣י הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֨ר לְקָחַ֜נִי מִבֵּ֣ית אָבִי֮ וּמֵאֶ֣רֶץ מֽוֹלַדְתִּי֒ וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּר־לִ֜י וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר נִֽשְׁבַּֽע־לִי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לְזַ֨רְעֲךָ֔ אֶתֵּ֖ן אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את ה֗וּא יִשְׁלַ֤ח מַלְאָכוֹ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ וְלָקַחְתָּ֥ אִשָּׁ֛ה לִבְנִ֖י מִשָּֽׁם׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'im-lo֨ to'be֤h haֽ'ishshּah֙ lale֣ket 'achare֔yka veniqּi֕yta mishshּebu'ati֖y zo֑'t ra֣q 'et-bּeni֔y lo֥ tashshe֖b shshaֽmּah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath of mine. Only do not take my son back there."

וְאִם־לֹ֨א תֹאבֶ֤ה הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ לָלֶ֣כֶת אַחֲרֶ֔יךָ וְנִקִּ֕יתָ מִשְּׁבֻעָתִ֖י זֹ֑את רַ֣ק אֶת־בְּנִ֔י לֹ֥א תָשֵׁ֖ב שָֽׁמָּה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֤shsem ha'e֨bed֙ 'et-yad֔o tּa֛chat ye֥reke 'aberaha֖m 'adona֑yv vayּishshּa֣baֽ l֔o 'al-hadּaba֖r hazּeֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So the servant put his hand under the thigh of his master Abraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.

וַיָּ֤שֶׂם הָעֶ֨בֶד֙ אֶת־יָד֔וֹ תַּ֛חַת יֶ֥רֶךְ אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֑יו וַיִּשָּׁ֣בַֽע ל֔וֹ עַל־הַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּa֣ch ha֠'ebed 'ashsara֨h gemalּi֜ym migּemalּe֤y 'adonayv֙ vayּe֔leke vekal-t֥ub 'adona֖yv bּeyad֑o vayּa֗qam vayּe֛leke 'el-'ara֥m nֽahara֖yim 'el-'i֥yr nachֽor׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the servant left, taking with him ten of his master's camels loaded with all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim and made his way to the town of Nahor.

וַיִּקַּ֣ח הָ֠עֶבֶד עֲשָׂרָ֨ה גְמַלִּ֜ים מִגְּמַלֵּ֤י אֲדֹנָיו֙ וַיֵּ֔לֶךְ וְכָל־ט֥וּב אֲדֹנָ֖יו בְּיָד֑וֹ וַיָּ֗קָם וַיֵּ֛לֶךְ אֶל־אֲרַ֥ם נַֽהֲרַ֖יִם אֶל־עִ֥יר נָחֽוֹר׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabere֧ke hagּemalּi֛ym mich֥utz la'i֖yr 'el-bּe'e֣r hamּa֑yim le'e֣t 'e֔reb le'e֖t tze֥'t hashshּo'aboֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He made the camels kneel down near the well outside the town; it was towards evening, the time the women go out to draw water.

וַיַּבְרֵ֧ךְ הַגְּמַלִּ֛ים מִח֥וּץ לָעִ֖יר אֶל־בְּאֵ֣ר הַמָּ֑יִם לְעֵ֣ת עֶ֔רֶב לְעֵ֖ת צֵ֥את הַשֹּׁאֲבֹֽת׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'ma֓r ׀ yehva֗h 'elohey֙ 'adoni֣y 'aberaha֔m haqereh-na֥ lepana֖y hayּ֑om va'ashseh-che֕sed 'i֖m 'adoni֥y 'aberahaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he prayed, "The LORD, God of my lord Abraham, please give me success (Haqreh-na) today, and show kindness (Chesed) to my lord Abraham.

וַיֹּאמַ֓ר ׀ יְהוָ֗ה אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם הַקְרֵה־נָ֥א לְפָנַ֖י הַיּ֑וֹם וַעֲשֵׂה־חֶ֕סֶד עִ֖ם אֲדֹנִ֥י אַבְרָהָֽם׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֛h 'anoki֥y nitzּa֖b 'al-'e֣yn hamּa֑yim ubenot֙ 'aneshshe֣y ha'i֔yr yotze'o֖t lishshe'o֥b maֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water.

הִנֵּ֛ה אָנֹכִ֥י נִצָּ֖ב עַל־עֵ֣ין הַמָּ֑יִם וּבְנוֹת֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣י הָעִ֔יר יֹצְאֹ֖ת לִשְׁאֹ֥ב מָֽיִם׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֣h haֽnּa'ara֗ 'ashshe֨r 'oma֤r 'ele֨yha֙ hatּiy-na֤ kadּeke֙ ve'eshshetּe֔h ve'amera֣h shshete֔h vegam-gּemalּe֖yka 'ashsheqe֑h 'ota֤hּ hoka֨chetּa֙ le'abedּeka֣ leyitzecha֔q uba֣hּ 'eda֔ kּiy-'ashsi֥yta che֖sed 'im-'adoniֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)May it be that when I say to a young woman, 'Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and I'll water your camels too', let her be the one you have chosen for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master."

וְהָיָ֣ה הַֽנַּעֲרָ֗ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֹמַ֤ר אֵלֶ֨יהָ֙ הַטִּי־נָ֤א כַדֵּךְ֙ וְאֶשְׁתֶּ֔ה וְאָמְרָ֣ה שְׁתֵ֔ה וְגַם־גְּמַלֶּ֖יךָ אַשְׁקֶ֑ה אֹתָ֤הּ הֹכַ֨חְתָּ֙ לְעַבְדְּךָ֣ לְיִצְחָ֔ק וּבָ֣הּ אֵדַ֔ע כִּי־עָשִׂ֥יתָ חֶ֖סֶד עִם־אֲדֹנִֽי׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy-h֗u terem֮ kּilּa֣h ledabּer֒ vehinּe֧h ribeqa֣h yotze֗'t 'ashshe֤r yulּedah֙ libetu'e֣l bּen-milekּa֔h 'e֥shshet nach֖or 'achi֣y 'aberaha֑m vekadּa֖hּ 'al-shshikemaֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor.

וַֽיְהִי־ה֗וּא טֶרֶם֮ כִּלָּ֣ה לְדַבֵּר֒ וְהִנֵּ֧ה רִבְקָ֣ה יֹצֵ֗את אֲשֶׁ֤ר יֻלְּדָה֙ לִבְתוּאֵ֣ל בֶּן־מִלְכָּ֔ה אֵ֥שֶׁת נָח֖וֹר אֲחִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֑ם וְכַדָּ֖הּ עַל־שִׁכְמָֽהּ׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaֽnּa'ara֗ toba֤t mare'eh֙ me'o֔d bּetula֕h ve'i֖yshsh lo֣ yeda'a֑hּ vatּe֣red ha'a֔yenah vatּemalּe֥ kadּa֖hּ vatּaֽ'al׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The young woman was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever known her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.

וְהַֽנַּעֲרָ֗ טֹבַ֤ת מַרְאֶה֙ מְאֹ֔ד בְּתוּלָ֕ה וְאִ֖ישׁ לֹ֣א יְדָעָ֑הּ וַתֵּ֣רֶד הָעַ֔יְנָה וַתְּמַלֵּ֥א כַדָּ֖הּ וַתָּֽעַל׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֥ratz ha'e֖bed liqera'ta֑hּ vayּo֕'mer hagemiy'i֥yniy na֛ me'at-ma֖yim mikּadּeֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The servant hurried to meet her and said, "Please give me a little water from your jar."

וַיָּ֥רָץ הָעֶ֖בֶד לִקְרָאתָ֑הּ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הַגְמִיאִ֥ינִי נָ֛א מְעַט־מַ֖יִם מִכַּדֵּֽךְ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּo֖'mer shshete֣h 'adoni֑y vatּemahe֗r vatּo֧red kּadּa֛hּ 'al-yada֖hּ vatּashsheqeֽhu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.

וַתֹּ֖אמֶר שְׁתֵ֣ה אֲדֹנִ֑י וַתְּמַהֵ֗ר וַתֹּ֧רֶד כַּדָּ֛הּ עַל־יָדָ֖הּ וַתַּשְׁקֵֽהוּ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּeka֖l lehashsheqot֑o vatּo֗'mer gּa֤m ligemalּe֨yka֙ 'eshshe'a֔b 'a֥d 'im-kּilּ֖u lishshetּoֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink."

וַתְּכַ֖ל לְהַשְׁקֹת֑וֹ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר גַּ֤ם לִגְמַלֶּ֨יךָ֙ אֶשְׁאָ֔ב עַ֥ד אִם־כִּלּ֖וּ לִשְׁתֹּֽת׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּemahe֗r vatּe'a֤r kּadּahּ֙ 'el-hashshּo֔qet vatּa֥ratz '֛od 'eֽl-habּe'e֖r lishshe'o֑b vatּishshe'a֖b lekal-gּemalּaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels.

וַתְּמַהֵ֗ר וַתְּעַ֤ר כַּדָּהּ֙ אֶל־הַשֹּׁ֔קֶת וַתָּ֥רָץ ע֛וֹד אֶֽל־הַבְּאֵ֖ר לִשְׁאֹ֑ב וַתִּשְׁאַ֖ב לְכָל־גְּמַלָּֽיו׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'i֥yshsh mishshetּa'e֖h la֑hּ machari֕yshsh lada֗'at hֽahitzeli֧ycha yehva֛h dּarekּ֖o 'im-loֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The man watched her in silence and amazement (mishta'eh), to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful.

וְהָאִ֥ישׁ מִשְׁתָּאֵ֖ה לָ֑הּ מַחֲרִ֕ישׁ לָדַ֗עַת הַֽהִצְלִ֧יחַ יְהוָ֛ה דַּרְכּ֖וֹ אִם־לֹֽא׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֗y kּa'ashshe֨r kּilּ֤u hagּemalּiym֙ lishshetּ֔ot vayּiqּa֤ch ha'iyshsh֙ ne֣zem zaha֔b bּe֖qa mishsheqal֑o ushshene֤y tzemiydiym֙ 'al-yade֔yha 'ashsara֥h zaha֖b mishsheqalaֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels.

וַיְהִ֗י כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר כִּלּ֤וּ הַגְּמַלִּים֙ לִשְׁתּ֔וֹת וַיִּקַּ֤ח הָאִישׁ֙ נֶ֣זֶם זָהָ֔ב בֶּ֖קַע מִשְׁקָל֑וֹ וּשְׁנֵ֤י צְמִידִים֙ עַל־יָדֶ֔יהָ עֲשָׂרָ֥ה זָהָ֖ב מִשְׁקָלָֽם׃

23
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer֙ bּat-mi֣y 'a֔tּe hagּi֥ydiy na֖ li֑y haye֧shsh bּeyt-'abi֛yke maq֥om la֖nu laliֽyn׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he asked, "Whose daughter are you? Please tell me, is there room in your father's house for us to spend the night?"

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ בַּת־מִ֣י אַ֔תְּ הַגִּ֥ידִי נָ֖א לִ֑י הֲיֵ֧שׁ בֵּית־אָבִ֛יךְ מָק֥וֹם לָ֖נוּ לָלִֽין׃

24
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּo֣'mer 'ela֔yv bּat-bּetu'e֖l 'ano֑kiy bּen-milekּa֕h 'ashshe֥r yaleda֖h lenachֽor׃
Edified Edition (EDE)She answered him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son that Milcah bore to Nahor."

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו בַּת־בְּתוּאֵ֖ל אָנֹ֑כִי בֶּן־מִלְכָּ֕ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָלְדָ֖ה לְנָחֽוֹר׃

25
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּo֣'mer 'ela֔yv gּam-tּe֥ben gּam-misepּ֖o ra֣b 'imּa֑nu gּam-maq֖om lalֽun׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And she added, "We have plenty of straw and fodder, as well as room for you to spend the night."

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו גַּם־תֶּ֥בֶן גַּם־מִסְפּ֖וֹא רַ֣ב עִמָּ֑נוּ גַּם־מָק֖וֹם לָלֽוּן׃

26
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqּo֣d ha'i֔yshsh vayּishshetּa֖chu lֽayhvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the man bowed down and worshipped the LORD,

וַיִּקֹּ֣ד הָאִ֔ישׁ וַיִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ לַֽיהוָֽה׃

27
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֗'mer bּar֤uke yehvah֙ 'elohey֙ 'adoni֣y 'aberaha֔m 'a֠shsher loֽ'-'aza֥b chasedּ֛o va'amitּ֖o me'i֣m 'adoni֑y 'anoki֗y bּadּe֨reke֙ nacha֣niy yehva֔h bּe֖yt 'ache֥y 'adoniֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)saying, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned His kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master's relatives."

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר בָּר֤וּךְ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹֽא־עָזַ֥ב חַסְדּ֛וֹ וַאֲמִתּ֖וֹ מֵעִ֣ם אֲדֹנִ֑י אָנֹכִ֗י בַּדֶּ֨רֶךְ֙ נָחַ֣נִי יְהוָ֔ה בֵּ֖ית אֲחֵ֥י אֲדֹנִֽי׃

28
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּa֨ratz֙ haֽnּa'ara֔ vatּagּe֖d lebe֣yt 'imּa֑hּ kּadּebari֖ym ha'eֽlּeh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The young woman ran and told her mother's household about these things.

וַתָּ֨רָץ֙ הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ וַתַּגֵּ֖ד לְבֵ֣ית אִמָּ֑הּ כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

29
Phonetic (Hebrew): uleribeqa֥h 'a֖ch ushshem֣o laba֑n vayּa֨ratz laba֧n 'el-ha'i֛yshsh hach֖utzah 'el-ha'aֽyin׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Rebekah had a brother named Laban, and he hurried out to the man at the spring.

וּלְרִבְקָ֥ה אָ֖ח וּשְׁמ֣וֹ לָבָ֑ן וַיָּ֨רָץ לָבָ֧ן אֶל־הָאִ֛ישׁ הַח֖וּצָה אֶל־הָעָֽיִן׃

30
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y ׀ kּire'o֣t 'et-hanּe֗zem veֽ'et-hatzּemidiym֮ 'al-yede֣y 'achoto֒ ukeshshame'֗o 'et-dּibere֞y ribeqa֤h 'achoto֙ le'mo֔r kּoֽh-dibּe֥r 'ela֖y ha'i֑yshsh vayּabo'֙ 'el-ha'i֔yshsh vehinּe֛h 'ome֥d 'al-hagּemalּi֖ym 'al-ha'aֽyin׃
Edified Edition (EDE)As soon as he had seen the nose ring and the bracelets on his sister's arms and had heard Rebekah tell what the man said to her, he went out to the man and found him standing by the camels near the spring.

וַיְהִ֣י ׀ כִּרְאֹ֣ת אֶת־הַנֶּ֗זֶם וְֽאֶת־הַצְּמִדִים֮ עַל־יְדֵ֣י אֲחֹתוֹ֒ וּכְשָׁמְע֗וֹ אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֞י רִבְקָ֤ה אֲחֹתוֹ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּֽה־דִבֶּ֥ר אֵלַ֖י הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיָּבֹא֙ אֶל־הָאִ֔ישׁ וְהִנֵּ֛ה עֹמֵ֥ד עַל־הַגְּמַלִּ֖ים עַל־הָעָֽיִן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֕'mer bּ֖o bּer֣uke yehva֑h la֤mּah ta'amod֙ bּach֔utz ve'anokiy֙ pּinּi֣ytiy habּa֔yit umaq֖om lagּemalּiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Come, you who are blessed by the LORD," he said. "Why are you standing out here? I have prepared the house and a place for the camels."

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר בּ֖וֹא בְּר֣וּךְ יְהוָ֑ה לָ֤מָּה תַעֲמֹד֙ בַּח֔וּץ וְאָנֹכִי֙ פִּנִּ֣יתִי הַבַּ֔יִת וּמָק֖וֹם לַגְּמַלִּֽים׃

32
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֤ ha'iyshsh֙ habּa֔yetah vayepatּa֖ch hagּemalּi֑ym vayּitּe֨n tּe֤ben umisepּo'֙ lagּemalּi֔ym uma֨yim֙ lirecho֣tz ragela֔yv veragele֥y ha'anashshi֖ym 'ashshe֥r 'itּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So the man went to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and fodder were brought for the camels, and water for him and his men to wash their feet.

וַיָּבֹ֤א הָאִישׁ֙ הַבַּ֔יְתָה וַיְפַתַּ֖ח הַגְּמַלִּ֑ים וַיִּתֵּ֨ן תֶּ֤בֶן וּמִסְפּוֹא֙ לַגְּמַלִּ֔ים וּמַ֨יִם֙ לִרְחֹ֣ץ רַגְלָ֔יו וְרַגְלֵ֥י הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vyyshm vayּushsa֤m lepanayv֙ le'eko֔l vayּo֨'mer֙ lo֣ 'oka֔l 'a֥d 'im-dּibּa֖retּiy dּebara֑y vayּo֖'mer dּabּeֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then food was set before him, but he said, "I will not eat until I have told you what I have to say." "Then tell us," Laban said.

ויישם וַיּוּשַׂ֤ם לְפָנָיו֙ לֶאֱכֹ֔ל וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֹכַ֔ל עַ֥ד אִם־דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי דְּבָרָ֑י וַיֹּ֖אמֶר דַּבֵּֽר׃

34
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'ma֑r 'e֥bed 'aberaha֖m 'anoֽkiy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So he said, "I am Abraham's servant.

וַיֹּאמַ֑ר עֶ֥בֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם אָנֹֽכִי׃

35
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayhva֞h bּera֧ke 'et-'adoni֛y me'o֖d vayּigedּa֑l vayּitּen-l֞o tzo֤'n ubaqar֙ veke֣sep vezaha֔b va'abadim֙ ushshepacho֔t ugemalּi֖ym vachamoriֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD has blessed my master abundantly, and he has become wealthy. He has given him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

וַיהוָ֞ה בֵּרַ֧ךְ אֶת־אֲדֹנִ֛י מְאֹ֖ד וַיִּגְדָּ֑ל וַיִּתֶּן־ל֞וֹ צֹ֤אן וּבָקָר֙ וְכֶ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֔ב וַעֲבָדִם֙ וּשְׁפָחֹ֔ת וּגְמַלִּ֖ים וַחֲמֹרִֽים׃

36
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּe֡led shsarah֩ 'e֨shshet 'adoni֥y ben֙ lֽa'doni֔y 'achare֖y ziqenata֑hּ vayּitּen-lּ֖o 'et-kּal-'ashsher-lֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)My master's wife Sarah has borne him a son in her old age, and he has given him everything he owns.

וַתֵּ֡לֶד שָׂרָה֩ אֵ֨שֶׁת אֲדֹנִ֥י בֵן֙ לַֽאדֹנִ֔י אַחֲרֵ֖י זִקְנָתָ֑הּ וַיִּתֶּן־לּ֖וֹ אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־לֽוֹ׃

37
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashshebּi'e֥niy 'adoni֖y le'mo֑r lo'-tiqּa֤ch 'ishshּah֙ libeni֔y mibּenot֙ haֽkּena'ani֔y 'ashshe֥r 'anoki֖y yoshshe֥b bּe'aretzֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And my master made me swear an oath, and said, 'You must not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

וַיַּשְׁבִּעֵ֥נִי אֲדֹנִ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר לֹא־תִקַּ֤ח אִשָּׁה֙ לִבְנִ֔י מִבְּנוֹת֙ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י יֹשֵׁ֥ב בְּאַרְצֽוֹ׃

38
Phonetic (Hebrew): im-lo֧ 'el-bּeyt-'abi֛y tּele֖ke ve'el-mishshepּachetּi֑y velaqachetּa֥ 'ishshּa֖h libeniֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)but go to my father's house and to my own clan, and get a wife for my son.'

אִם־לֹ֧א אֶל־בֵּית־אָבִ֛י תֵּלֵ֖ךְ וְאֶל־מִשְׁפַּחְתִּ֑י וְלָקַחְתָּ֥ אִשָּׁ֖ה לִבְנִֽי׃

39
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'oma֖r 'el-'adoni֑y 'ula֛y lo'-tele֥ke ha'ishshּa֖h 'acharaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Then I asked my master, 'What if the woman will not come back with me?'

וָאֹמַ֖ר אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֑י אֻלַ֛י לֹא־תֵלֵ֥ךְ הָאִשָּׁ֖ה אַחֲרָֽי׃

40
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֖'mer 'ela֑y yehva֞h 'ashsher-hitehalּa֣ketּiy lepana֗yv yishshela֨ch male'ak֤o 'itּake֙ vehitzeli֣ycha dּarekּe֔ka velaqachetּa֤ 'ishshּah֙ libeni֔y mimּishshepּachetּi֖y umibּe֥yt 'abiֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"He replied, 'the LORD, before whom I have walked, will send His angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you can get a wife for my son from my own clan and from my father's house.

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלָ֑י יְהוָ֞ה אֲשֶׁר־הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי לְפָנָ֗יו יִשְׁלַ֨ח מַלְאָכ֤וֹ אִתָּךְ֙ וְהִצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכֶּ֔ךָ וְלָקַחְתָּ֤ אִשָּׁה֙ לִבְנִ֔י מִמִּשְׁפַּחְתִּ֖י וּמִבֵּ֥ית אָבִֽי׃

41
Phonetic (Hebrew): a֤z tּinּaqeh֙ me'a֣lati֔y kּi֥y tab֖o 'el-mishshepּachetּi֑y ve'im-lo֤ yitּenu֙ la֔ke vehayi֥yta naqi֖y me'alatiֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then you will be released from my oath when you go to my clan; if they refuse to give her to you, you will be released from my oath.'"

אָ֤ז תִּנָּקֶה֙ מֵאָ֣לָתִ֔י כִּ֥י תָב֖וֹא אֶל־מִשְׁפַּחְתִּ֑י וְאִם־לֹ֤א יִתְּנוּ֙ לָ֔ךְ וְהָיִ֥יתָ נָקִ֖י מֵאָלָתִֽי׃

42
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'abo֥ hayּ֖om 'el-ha'a֑yin va'oma֗r yehvah֙ 'elohey֙ 'adoni֣y 'aberaha֔m 'im-yeshsheka-nּa'֙ matzeli֣ycha dּarekּi֔y 'ashshe֥r 'anoki֖y hole֥ke 'aleֽyha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"When I came to the spring today, I said, 'the LORD, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come.

וָאָבֹ֥א הַיּ֖וֹם אֶל־הָעָ֑יִן וָאֹמַ֗ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם אִם־יֶשְׁךָ־נָּא֙ מַצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכִּ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י הֹלֵ֥ךְ עָלֶֽיהָ׃

43
Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֛h 'anoki֥y nitzּa֖b 'al-'e֣yn hamּa֑yim vehaya֤h haֽ'alemah֙ hayּotze֣'t lishshe'o֔b ve'amaretּi֣y 'ele֔yha hashsheqiֽyniy-na֥ me'at-ma֖yim mikּadּeֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)See, I am standing beside this spring. If a young woman comes out to draw water and I say to her, "Please let me drink a little water from your jar,"

הִנֵּ֛ה אָנֹכִ֥י נִצָּ֖ב עַל־עֵ֣ין הַמָּ֑יִם וְהָיָ֤ה הָֽעַלְמָה֙ הַיֹּצֵ֣את לִשְׁאֹ֔ב וְאָמַרְתִּ֣י אֵלֶ֔יהָ הַשְׁקִֽינִי־נָ֥א מְעַט־מַ֖יִם מִכַּדֵּֽךְ׃

44
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'amera֤h 'elay֙ gּam-'atּa֣h shshete֔h vega֥m ligemalּe֖yka 'eshshe'a֑b hi֣v hֽa'ishshּa֔h 'ashsher-hoki֥ycha yehva֖h leben-'adoniֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and if she says to me, "Drink, and I'll draw water for your camels too," let her be the one the LORD has chosen for my master's son.'"

וְאָמְרָ֤ה אֵלַי֙ גַּם־אַתָּ֣ה שְׁתֵ֔ה וְגַ֥ם לִגְמַלֶּ֖יךָ אֶשְׁאָ֑ב הִ֣וא הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־הֹכִ֥יחַ יְהוָ֖ה לְבֶן־אֲדֹנִֽי׃

45
Phonetic (Hebrew): aniy֩ te֨rem 'akalּe֜h ledabּe֣r 'el-libּi֗y vehinּe֨h ribeqa֤h yotze't֙ vekadּa֣hּ 'al-shshikema֔hּ vatּe֥red ha'a֖yenah vatּishshe'a֑b va'oma֥r 'ele֖yha hashsheqi֥yniy naֽ'׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Before I had finished praying in my heart, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her, 'Please give me a drink.'

אֲנִי֩ טֶ֨רֶם אֲכַלֶּ֜ה לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֶל־לִבִּ֗י וְהִנֵּ֨ה רִבְקָ֤ה יֹצֵאת֙ וְכַדָּ֣הּ עַל־שִׁכְמָ֔הּ וַתֵּ֥רֶד הָעַ֖יְנָה וַתִּשְׁאָ֑ב וָאֹמַ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יהָ הַשְׁקִ֥ינִי נָֽא׃

46
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּemahe֗r vatּ֤ored kּadּahּ֙ meֽ'ale֔yha vatּo֣'mer shshete֔h vegam-gּemalּe֖yka 'ashsheqe֑h va'e֕shshetּe vega֥m hagּemalּi֖ym hishsheqaֽtah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and said, 'Drink, and I'll water your camels too.' So I drank, and she watered the camels also.

וַתְּמַהֵ֗ר וַתּ֤וֹרֶד כַּדָּהּ֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יהָ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁתֵ֔ה וְגַם־גְּמַלֶּ֖יךָ אַשְׁקֶ֑ה וָאֵ֕שְׁתְּ וְגַ֥ם הַגְּמַלִּ֖ים הִשְׁקָֽתָה׃

47
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'eshshe'a֣l 'ota֗hּ va'omar֮ bּat-mi֣y 'atּe֒ vatּo֗'mer bּat-bּetu'el֙ bּen-nach֔or 'ashshe֥r yaֽledah-lּ֖o milekּa֑h va'ashsi֤m hanּe֨zem֙ 'al-'apּa֔hּ vehatzּemiydi֖ym 'al-yadeֽyha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"I asked her, 'Whose daughter are you?' She said, 'The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.' Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms,

וָאֶשְׁאַ֣ל אֹתָ֗הּ וָאֹמַר֮ בַּת־מִ֣י אַתְּ֒ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר בַּת־בְּתוּאֵל֙ בֶּן־נָח֔וֹר אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָֽלְדָה־לּ֖וֹ מִלְכָּ֑ה וָאָשִׂ֤ם הַנֶּ֨זֶם֙ עַל־אַפָּ֔הּ וְהַצְּמִידִ֖ים עַל־יָדֶֽיהָ׃

48
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'eqּo֥d vaֽ'eshshetּachave֖h layhva֑h va'abare֗ke 'et-yehvah֙ 'elohey֙ 'adoni֣y 'aberaha֔m 'ashshe֤r hinecha֨niy֙ bּede֣reke 'eme֔t laqa֛chat 'et-bּat-'achi֥y 'adoni֖y libenֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and I bowed down and worshipped the LORD. I praised the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master's brother for his son.

וָאֶקֹּ֥ד וָֽאֶשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖ה לַיהוָ֑ה וָאֲבָרֵ֗ךְ אֶת־יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר הִנְחַ֨נִי֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ אֱמֶ֔ת לָקַ֛חַת אֶת־בַּת־אֲחִ֥י אֲדֹנִ֖י לִבְנֽוֹ׃

49
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve֠'atּah 'im-yeshsheke֨m 'oshsi֜ym che֧sed vֽe'eme֛t 'et-'adoni֖y hagּi֣ydu li֑y ve'im-lo֕ hagּi֣ydu li֔y ve'epene֥h 'al-yami֖yn '֥o 'al-shsemoֽ'l׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now if you will show kindness and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, so I may know which way to turn."

וְ֠עַתָּה אִם־יֶשְׁכֶ֨ם עֹשִׂ֜ים חֶ֧סֶד וֶֽאֱמֶ֛ת אֶת־אֲדֹנִ֖י הַגִּ֣ידוּ לִ֑י וְאִם־לֹ֕א הַגִּ֣ידוּ לִ֔י וְאֶפְנֶ֥ה עַל־יָמִ֖ין א֥וֹ עַל־שְׂמֹֽאל׃

50
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֨'an laba֤n ubetu'el֙ vayּo֣'mer֔u meyehva֖h yatza֣ hadּaba֑r lo֥ nuka֛l dּabּe֥r 'ele֖yka ra֥ 'o-tֽob׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Laban and Bethuel answered, "This is from the LORD; we can say nothing to you one way or the other.

וַיַּ֨עַן לָבָ֤ן וּבְתוּאֵל֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מֵיְהוָ֖ה יָצָ֣א הַדָּבָ֑ר לֹ֥א נוּכַ֛ל דַּבֵּ֥ר אֵלֶ֖יךָ רַ֥ע אוֹ־טֽוֹב׃

51
Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּeֽh-ribeqa֥h lepane֖yka qa֣ch vale֑ke utehi֤y 'ishshּah֙ leben-'adone֔yka kּa'ashshe֖r dּibּe֥r yehvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master's son, as the LORD has directed."

הִנֵּֽה־רִבְקָ֥ה לְפָנֶ֖יךָ קַ֣ח וָלֵ֑ךְ וּתְהִ֤י אִשָּׁה֙ לְבֶן־אֲדֹנֶ֔יךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

52
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֕y kּa'ashshe֥r shshama֛ 'e֥bed 'aberaha֖m 'et-dּibereyhe֑m vayּishshetּa֥chu 'a֖retzah lֽayhvaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Abraham's servant heard what they said, he bowed down to the ground before the LORD.

וַיְהִ֕י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁמַ֛ע עֶ֥בֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶת־דִּבְרֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ אַ֖רְצָה לַֽיהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּotze֨ ha'e֜bed kּeley-ke֨sep ukele֤y zahab֙ ubegadi֔ym vayּitּe֖n leribeqa֑h umi֨gedּano֔t nata֥n le'achi֖yha ule'imּaֽhּ׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the servant brought out gold and silver jewellery and articles of clothing and gave them to Rebekah; he also gave costly gifts to her brother and to her mother.

וַיּוֹצֵ֨א הָעֶ֜בֶד כְּלֵי־כֶ֨סֶף וּכְלֵ֤י זָהָב֙ וּבְגָדִ֔ים וַיִּתֵּ֖ן לְרִבְקָ֑ה וּמִ֨גְדָּנֹ֔ת נָתַ֥ן לְאָחִ֖יהָ וּלְאִמָּֽהּ׃

54
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'kel֣u vayּishshetּ֗u h֛u veha'anashshi֥ym 'ashsher-'imּ֖o vayּali֑ynu vayּaq֣umu babּo֔qer vayּo֖'mer shshalּechu֥niy lֽa'doniֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he and the men who were with him ate and drank and spent the night there. When they got up the next morning, he said, "Send me on my way to my master."

וַיֹּאכְל֣וּ וַיִּשְׁתּ֗וּ ה֛וּא וְהָאֲנָשִׁ֥ים אֲשֶׁר־עִמּ֖וֹ וַיָּלִ֑ינוּ וַיָּק֣וּמוּ בַבֹּ֔קֶר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר שַׁלְּחֻ֥נִי לַֽאדֹנִֽי׃

55
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer 'achi֨yha֙ ve'imּa֔hּ tּeshshe֨b hanּa'ara֥ 'itּa֛nu yami֖ym '֣o 'ashs֑or 'acha֖r tּeleֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But her brother and her mother replied, "Let the young woman remain with us ten days or so; then you may go."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אָחִ֨יהָ֙ וְאִמָּ֔הּ תֵּשֵׁ֨ב הַנַּעֲרָ֥ אִתָּ֛נוּ יָמִ֖ים א֣וֹ עָשׂ֑וֹר אַחַ֖ר תֵּלֵֽךְ׃

56
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer 'alehem֙ 'al-tּe'achar֣u 'oti֔y vֽayhva֖h hitzeli֣ycha dּarekּi֑y shshalּech֕uniy ve'eleka֖h lֽa'doniֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But he said to them, "Do not detain me, now that the LORD has granted success to my journey. Send me on my way so I may go to my master."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵהֶם֙ אַל־תְּאַחֲר֣וּ אֹתִ֔י וַֽיהוָ֖ה הִצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכִּ֑י שַׁלְּח֕וּנִי וְאֵלְכָ֖ה לַֽאדֹנִֽי׃

57
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'mer֖u niqera֣ laֽnּa'ara֑ venishshe'ala֖h 'et-pּiֽyha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they said, "Let's call the young woman and ask her about it."

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ נִקְרָ֣א לַֽנַּעֲרָ֑ וְנִשְׁאֲלָ֖ה אֶת־פִּֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqere'֤u leribeqah֙ vayּo'mer֣u 'ele֔yha hateleki֖y 'im-ha'i֣yshsh hazּe֑h vatּo֖'mer 'eleֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So they called Rebekah and asked her, "Will you go with this man?" "I will go," she said.

וַיִּקְרְא֤וּ לְרִבְקָה֙ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלֶ֔יהָ הֲתֵלְכִ֖י עִם־הָאִ֣ישׁ הַזֶּ֑ה וַתֹּ֖אמֶר אֵלֵֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyeshshalּech֛u 'et-ribeqa֥h 'achota֖m ve'et-meniqetּa֑hּ ve'et-'e֥bed 'aberaha֖m ve'et-'anashshaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So they sent their sister Rebekah on her way, along with her nurse and Abraham's servant and his men.

וַֽיְשַׁלְּח֛וּ אֶת־רִבְקָ֥ה אֲחֹתָ֖ם וְאֶת־מֵנִקְתָּ֑הּ וְאֶת־עֶ֥בֶד אַבְרָהָ֖ם וְאֶת־אֲנָשָֽׁיו׃

60
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayebarak֤u 'et-ribeqah֙ vayּo֣'meru la֔hּ 'achote֕nu 'a֥tּe hayi֖y le'alepe֣y rebaba֑h veyiyra֣shsh zare'e֔ke 'e֖t shsha֥'ar shsone'aֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, "Our sister, may you increase to thousands upon thousands; may your offspring possess the gates of their enemies."

וַיְבָרֲכ֤וּ אֶת־רִבְקָה֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְרוּ לָ֔הּ אֲחֹתֵ֕נוּ אַ֥תְּ הֲיִ֖י לְאַלְפֵ֣י רְבָבָ֑ה וְיִירַ֣שׁ זַרְעֵ֔ךְ אֵ֖ת שַׁ֥עַר שֹׂנְאָֽיו׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Rebekah and her attendants got ready and mounted the camels and went back with the man. So the servant took Rebekah and left.

וַתָּ֨קָם רִבְקָ֜ה וְנַעֲרֹתֶ֗יהָ וַתִּרְכַּ֨בְנָה֙ עַל־הַגְּמַלִּ֔ים וַתֵּלַ֖כְנָה אַחֲרֵ֣י הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיִּקַּ֥ח הָעֶ֛בֶד אֶת־רִבְקָ֖ה וַיֵּלַֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyitzechaq֙ bּa֣ mibּ֔o bּe'e֥r lacha֖y ro'i֑y veh֥u yoshshe֖b bּe'e֥retz hanּeֽgeb׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Isaac had come from Beer Lahai Roi, for he was living in the Negev.

וְיִצְחָק֙ בָּ֣א מִבּ֔וֹא בְּאֵ֥ר לַחַ֖י רֹאִ֑י וְה֥וּא יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בְּאֶ֥רֶץ הַנֶּֽגֶב׃

63
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּetze֥ yitzecha֛q lashs֥ucha bּashsּade֖h lipen֣ot 'a֑reb vayּishsּa֤ 'eynayv֙ vayּa֔re vehinּe֥h gemalּi֖ym bּa'iֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Isaac went out to meditate (suach) in the field at the turning of the evening, and as he looked up, he saw camels approaching.

וַיֵּצֵ֥א יִצְחָ֛ק לָשׂ֥וּחַ בַּשָּׂדֶ֖ה לִפְנ֣וֹת עָ֑רֶב וַיִּשָּׂ֤א עֵינָיו֙ וַיַּ֔רְא וְהִנֵּ֥ה גְמַלִּ֖ים בָּאִֽים׃

64
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּishsּa֤ ribeqah֙ 'et-'eyne֔yha vatּe֖re 'et-yitzecha֑q vatּipּo֖l me'a֥l hagּamaֽl׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Rebekah also looked up and saw Isaac. She got down from her camel

וַתִּשָּׂ֤א רִבְקָה֙ אֶת־עֵינֶ֔יהָ וַתֵּ֖רֶא אֶת־יִצְחָ֑ק וַתִּפֹּ֖ל מֵעַ֥ל הַגָּמָֽל׃

65
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּo֣'mer 'el-ha'e֗bed miֽy-ha'i֤yshsh halּazeh֙ hahole֤ke bּashsּadeh֙ liqera'te֔nu vayּo֥'mer ha'e֖bed h֣u 'adoni֑y vatּiqּa֥ch hatzּa'i֖yp vatּitekּaֽs׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and asked the servant, "Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?" "He is my master," the servant answered. So she took her veil and covered herself.

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל־הָעֶ֗בֶד מִֽי־הָאִ֤ישׁ הַלָּזֶה֙ הַהֹלֵ֤ךְ בַּשָּׂדֶה֙ לִקְרָאתֵ֔נוּ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הָעֶ֖בֶד ה֣וּא אֲדֹנִ֑י וַתִּקַּ֥ח הַצָּעִ֖יף וַתִּתְכָּֽס׃

66
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayesapּe֥r ha'e֖bed leyitzecha֑q 'e֥t kּal-hadּebari֖ym 'ashshe֥r 'ashsaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the servant told Isaac all he had done.

וַיְסַפֵּ֥ר הָעֶ֖בֶד לְיִצְחָ֑ק אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה׃

67
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayebi'e֣ha yitzecha֗q ha'o֨helah֙ shsara֣h 'imּ֔o vayּiqּa֧ch 'et-ribeqa֛h vatּehiy-l֥o le'ishshּa֖h vayּe'ehabe֑ha vayּinּache֥m yitzecha֖q 'achare֥y 'imּֽo׃p
Edified Edition (EDE)Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah, and he married Rebekah. So she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

וַיְבִאֶ֣הָ יִצְחָ֗ק הָאֹ֨הֱלָה֙ שָׂרָ֣ה אִמּ֔וֹ וַיִּקַּ֧ח אֶת־רִבְקָ֛ה וַתְּהִי־ל֥וֹ לְאִשָּׁ֖ה וַיֶּאֱהָבֶ֑הָ וַיִּנָּחֵ֥ם יִצְחָ֖ק אַחֲרֵ֥י אִמּֽוֹ׃פ
