Chapter 6

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy֙ kּiֽy-heche֣l hֽa'ada֔m laro֖b 'al-pּene֣y hֽa'adama֑h uban֖ot yulּed֥u laheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When humans began to multiply on the face of the ground and daughters were born to them,

וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּֽי־הֵחֵ֣ל הָֽאָדָ֔ם לָרֹ֖ב עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה וּבָנ֖וֹת יֻלְּד֥וּ לָהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּire'֤u beney-haֽ'elohiym֙ 'et-bּen֣ot haֽ'ada֔m kּi֥y tobo֖t he֑nּah vayּiqech֤u lahem֙ nashshi֔ym mikּo֖l 'ashshe֥r bּachaֽru׃

Edified Edition (EDE)the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were beautiful, and they took for themselves wives from all whom they chose.

וַיִּרְא֤וּ בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־בְּנ֣וֹת הָֽאָדָ֔ם כִּ֥י טֹבֹ֖ת הֵ֑נָּה וַיִּקְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נָשִׁ֔ים מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּחָֽרוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer yehva֗h loֽ'-yad֨on ruchi֤y baֽ'adam֙ le'ola֔m bּeshshagּa֖m h֣u bashsa֑r vehay֣u yama֔yv me'a֥h ve'eshseri֖ym shshanaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is but flesh; yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years."

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה לֹֽא־יָד֨וֹן רוּחִ֤י בָֽאָדָם֙ לְעֹלָ֔ם בְּשַׁגַּ֖ם ה֣וּא בָשָׂ֑ר וְהָי֣וּ יָמָ֔יו מֵאָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים שָׁנָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hanּepili֞ym hay֣u ba'aretz֮ bּayּami֣ym hahem֒ vega֣m 'aֽcharey-ke֗n 'ashshe֨r yabo֜'u bּene֤y haֽ'elohiym֙ 'el-bּen֣ot hֽa'ada֔m veyaled֖u lahe֑m he֧mּah hagּibּori֛ym 'ashshe֥r me'ola֖m 'aneshshe֥y hashshּeֽm׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty ones who were of old, the men of renown.

הַנְּפִלִ֞ים הָי֣וּ בָאָרֶץ֮ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵם֒ וְגַ֣ם אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָבֹ֜אוּ בְּנֵ֤י הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־בְּנ֣וֹת הָֽאָדָ֔ם וְיָלְד֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם הֵ֧מָּה הַגִּבֹּרִ֛ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר מֵעוֹלָ֖ם אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַשֵּֽׁם׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣re yehva֔h kּi֥y rabּa֛h ra'a֥t ha'ada֖m bּa'a֑retz vekal-ye֨tzer֙ macheshshebo֣t libּ֔o ra֥q ra֖ kּal-hayּֽom׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every inclination of the intents of his heart was only evil continually.

וַיַּ֣רְא יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֥י רַבָּ֛ה רָעַ֥ת הָאָדָ֖ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ וְכָל־יֵ֨צֶר֙ מַחְשְׁבֹ֣ת לִבּ֔וֹ רַ֥ק רַ֖ע כָּל־הַיּֽוֹם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּinּa֣chem yehva֔h kּiֽy-'ashsa֥h 'et-hֽa'ada֖m bּa'a֑retz vayּite'atzּe֖b 'el-libּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD relented that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved to His heart.

וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם יְהוָ֔ה כִּֽי־עָשָׂ֥ה אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֖ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּתְעַצֵּ֖ב אֶל־לִבּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer yehva֗h 'emeche֨h 'et-ha'ada֤m 'ashsher-bּara֨'tiy֙ me'al֙ pּene֣y hֽa'adama֔h mֽe'adam֙ 'ad-bּehema֔h 'ad-re֖meshs ve'ad-'֣op hashshּama֑yim kּi֥y nicha֖metּiy kּi֥y 'ashsiytiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So the LORD said, "I will wipe the human race I created from the face of the ground, from man to cattle to the creeping things and to the birds of the sky, for I relent that I have made them."

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה אֶמְחֶ֨ה אֶת־הָאָדָ֤ם אֲשֶׁר־בָּרָ֨אתִי֙ מֵעַל֙ פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה מֵֽאָדָם֙ עַד־בְּהֵמָ֔ה עַד־רֶ֖מֶשׂ וְעַד־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם כִּ֥י נִחַ֖מְתִּי כִּ֥י עֲשִׂיתִֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veno֕cha ma֥tza che֖n bּe'eyne֥y yehvaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

וְנֹ֕חַ מָ֥צָא חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֚lּeh tּoledo֣t no֔cha no֗cha 'i֥yshsh tzadּi֛yq tּami֥ym haya֖h bּedoֽrota֑yv 'et-hֽa'elohi֖ym hiֽtehalּeke-noֽcha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)This is the account of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, perfect in his generations; Noah walked with God.

אֵ֚לֶּה תּוֹלְדֹ֣ת נֹ֔חַ נֹ֗חַ אִ֥ישׁ צַדִּ֛יק תָּמִ֥ים הָיָ֖ה בְּדֹֽרֹתָ֑יו אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים הִֽתְהַלֶּךְ־נֹֽחַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּ֥oled no֖cha shsheloshsha֣h bani֑ym 'et-shshe֖m 'et-cha֥m ve'et-yaֽpet׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.

וַיּ֥וֹלֶד נֹ֖חַ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה בָנִ֑ים אֶת־שֵׁ֖ם אֶת־חָ֥ם וְאֶת־יָֽפֶת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּishshּache֥t ha'a֖retz lipene֣y hֽa'elohi֑ym vatּimּale֥ ha'a֖retz chamaֽs׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the earth was corrupt before God and the earth was filled with violence.

וַתִּשָּׁחֵ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץ לִפְנֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַתִּמָּלֵ֥א הָאָ֖רֶץ חָמָֽס׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֧re 'elohi֛ym 'et-ha'a֖retz vehinּe֣h nishshecha֑tah kּiֽy-hishshechi֧yt kּal-bּashsa֛r 'et-dּarekּ֖o 'al-ha'aֽretz׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted its way on the earth.

וַיַּ֧רְא אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־הָאָ֖רֶץ וְהִנֵּ֣ה נִשְׁחָ֑תָה כִּֽי־הִשְׁחִ֧ית כָּל־בָּשָׂ֛ר אֶת־דַּרְכּ֖וֹ עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֨'mer 'elohi֜ym leno֗cha qe֤tz kּal-bּashsar֙ bּa֣ lepana֔y kּiֽy-male'a֥h ha'a֛retz chama֖s mipּeneyhe֑m vehineni֥y mashshechiyta֖m 'et-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Behold, I am going to destroy them with the earth.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֜ים לְנֹ֗חַ קֵ֤ץ כָּל־בָּשָׂר֙ בָּ֣א לְפָנַ֔י כִּֽי־מָלְאָ֥ה הָאָ֛רֶץ חָמָ֖ס מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם וְהִנְנִ֥י מַשְׁחִיתָ֖ם אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ashse֤h leka֙ tּeba֣t 'atzey-go֔per qinּi֖ym tּֽa'ashse֣h 'et-hatּeba֑h vekaֽparetּa֥ 'ota֛hּ mibּa֥yit umich֖utz bּakּoֽper׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Make for yourself an Ark (Tevah) of Gopher wood; make rooms in the Ark and cover it inside and out with pitch.

עֲשֵׂ֤ה לְךָ֙ תֵּבַ֣ת עֲצֵי־גֹ֔פֶר קִנִּ֖ים תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה אֶת־הַתֵּבָ֑ה וְכָֽפַרְתָּ֥ אֹתָ֛הּ מִבַּ֥יִת וּמִח֖וּץ בַּכֹּֽפֶר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veze֕h 'ashshe֥r tּaֽ'ashse֖h 'ota֑hּ shshelo֧shsh me'֣ot 'amּa֗h 'o֚reke hatּeba֔h chamishshּi֤ym 'amּah֙ rachebּa֔hּ ushsheloshshi֥ym 'amּa֖h qomataֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And this is how you are to build it: The length of the Ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.

וְזֶ֕ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֖ה אֹתָ֑הּ שְׁלֹ֧שׁ מֵא֣וֹת אַמָּ֗ה אֹ֚רֶךְ הַתֵּבָ֔ה חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים אַמָּה֙ רָחְבָּ֔הּ וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אַמָּ֖ה קוֹמָתָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tzo֣har ׀ tּֽa'ashse֣h latּeba֗h ve'el-'amּah֙ tּekale֣nּah milema֔'elah upe֥tach hatּeba֖h bּetzidּa֣hּ tּashsi֑ym tּachetּiyּi֛m shsheniyּi֥m ushshelishshi֖ym tּֽa'ashseֽha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Make a light-opening for the Ark, finishing it to within a cubit of the top; set a door in the side of the Ark and make it with lower, second, and third decks.

צֹ֣הַר ׀ תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה לַתֵּבָ֗ה וְאֶל־אַמָּה֙ תְּכַלֶ֣נָּה מִלְמַ֔עְלָה וּפֶ֥תַח הַתֵּבָ֖ה בְּצִדָּ֣הּ תָּשִׂ֑ים תַּחְתִּיִּ֛ם שְׁנִיִּ֥ם וּשְׁלִשִׁ֖ים תַּֽעֲשֶֽׂהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ani֗y hineniy֩ mebi֨y 'et-hamּabּ֥ul ma֨yim֙ 'al-ha'a֔retz leshshache֣t kּal-bּashsa֗r 'ashsher-bּo֙ r֣ucha chayּi֔ym mitּa֖chat hashshּama֑yim kּo֥l 'ashsher-bּa'a֖retz yigevaֽ'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, I am going to bring floodwaters upon the earth to destroy all life under the heavens that has the breath of life in it; everything on the earth shall perish.

וַאֲנִ֗י הִנְנִי֩ מֵבִ֨יא אֶת־הַמַּבּ֥וּל מַ֨יִם֙ עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ לְשַׁחֵ֣ת כָּל־בָּשָׂ֗ר אֲשֶׁר־בּוֹ֙ ר֣וּחַ חַיִּ֔ים מִתַּ֖חַת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־בָּאָ֖רֶץ יִגְוָֽע׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vahaqimoti֥y 'et-bּeriyti֖y 'itּa֑ke uba'ta֙ 'el-hatּeba֔h 'atּa֕h ubane֛yka ve'ishshetּeka֥ uneshsheֽy-bane֖yka 'itּaֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But I will establish My covenant with you, and you shall enter the Ark, you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.

וַהֲקִמֹתִ֥י אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֖י אִתָּ֑ךְ וּבָאתָ֙ אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֔ה אַתָּ֕ה וּבָנֶ֛יךָ וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֥ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנֶ֖יךָ אִתָּֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): umikּal-ha֠chay miֽkּal-bּashsa֞r shshena֧yim mikּo֛l tּabi֥y 'el-hatּeba֖h lehachayo֣t 'itּa֑ke zaka֥r uneqeba֖h yiֽheyֽu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Of every living thing of all flesh, you are to bring two of every kind into the Ark to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.

וּמִכָּל־הָ֠חַי מִֽכָּל־בָּשָׂ֞ר שְׁנַ֧יִם מִכֹּ֛ל תָּבִ֥יא אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֖ה לְהַחֲיֹ֣ת אִתָּ֑ךְ זָכָ֥ר וּנְקֵבָ֖ה יִֽהְיֽוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): meha'֣op lemiyne֗hu umin-habּehemah֙ lemiyna֔hּ mikּo֛l re֥meshs hֽa'adama֖h lemiyne֑hu shshena֧yim mikּo֛l yabo֥'u 'ele֖yka lehֽachayֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Of the birds after their kind, and of the cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every kind shall come to you to be kept alive.

מֵהָע֣וֹף לְמִינֵ֗הוּ וּמִן־הַבְּהֵמָה֙ לְמִינָ֔הּ מִכֹּ֛ל רֶ֥מֶשׂ הָֽאֲדָמָ֖ה לְמִינֵ֑הוּ שְׁנַ֧יִם מִכֹּ֛ל יָבֹ֥אוּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ לְהַֽחֲיֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֣h qach-leka֗ mikּal-mֽa'akal֙ 'ashshe֣r yֽe'ake֔l ve'asapetּa֖ 'ele֑yka vehaya֥h leka֛ velahe֖m le'akelaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You are to take for yourself every kind of food that is eaten and store it away for yourself; it shall be for food for you and for them."

וְאַתָּ֣ה קַח־לְךָ֗ מִכָּל־מַֽאֲכָל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יֵֽאָכֵ֔ל וְאָסַפְתָּ֖ אֵלֶ֑יךָ וְהָיָ֥ה לְךָ֛ וְלָהֶ֖ם לְאָכְלָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֖'ashs no֑cha kּe֠kol 'ashshe֨r tziua֥h 'ot֛o 'elohi֖ym kּe֥n 'ashsaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Noah did everything just as God commanded him; so he did.

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ נֹ֑חַ כְּ֠כֹל אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֥ה אֹת֛וֹ אֱלֹהִ֖ים כֵּ֥ן עָשָֽׂה׃ס
