Chapter 7

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ leno֔cha bּoֽ'-'atּa֥h vekal-bּeyteka֖ 'el-hatּeba֑h kּiֽy-'oteka֥ ra'i֛ytiy tzadּi֥yq lepana֖y bּadּ֥or hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the Ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous before Me in this generation.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ לְנֹ֔חַ בֹּֽא־אַתָּ֥ה וְכָל־בֵּיתְךָ֖ אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֑ה כִּֽי־אֹתְךָ֥ רָאִ֛יתִי צַדִּ֥יק לְפָנַ֖י בַּדּ֥וֹר הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): mikּo֣l ׀ habּehema֣h hatּehora֗h tּiֽqּach-leka֛ shshibe'a֥h shshibe'a֖h 'i֣yshsh ve'ishshetּ֑o umin-habּehema֡h 'a֠shsher lo֣ tehora֥h hi֛v shshena֖yim 'i֥yshsh ve'ishshetּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Take with you seven pairs of every kind of clean animal, the male and his mate; and of the animals that are not clean, two, the male and his mate;

מִכֹּ֣ל ׀ הַבְּהֵמָ֣ה הַטְּהוֹרָ֗ה תִּֽקַּח־לְךָ֛ שִׁבְעָ֥ה שִׁבְעָ֖ה אִ֣ישׁ וְאִשְׁתּ֑וֹ וּמִן־הַבְּהֵמָ֡ה אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹ֣א טְהֹרָ֥ה הִ֛וא שְׁנַ֖יִם אִ֥ישׁ וְאִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּa֣m me'֧op hashshּama֛yim shshibe'a֥h shshibe'a֖h zaka֣r uneqeba֑h lechayּ֥ot ze֖ra 'al-pּene֥y kal-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)and also seven pairs of every kind of bird of the heavens, male and female, to keep their kind alive throughout the earth.

גַּ֣ם מֵע֧וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם שִׁבְעָ֥ה שִׁבְעָ֖ה זָכָ֣ר וּנְקֵבָ֑ה לְחַיּ֥וֹת זֶ֖רַע עַל־פְּנֵ֥י כָל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiy֩ leyami֨ym '֜od shshibe'a֗h 'aֽnokiy֙ mameti֣yr 'al-ha'a֔retz 'arebּa'i֣ym y֔om ve'arebּa'i֖ym la֑yelah umachi֗ytiy 'eֽt-kּal-hayequm֙ 'ashshe֣r 'ashsi֔ytiy me'a֖l pּene֥y hֽa'adamaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will blot out from the face of the ground every living creature I have made."

כִּי֩ לְיָמִ֨ים ע֜וֹד שִׁבְעָ֗ה אָֽנֹכִי֙ מַמְטִ֣יר עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֔וֹם וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים לָ֑יְלָה וּמָחִ֗יתִי אֶֽת־כָּל־הַיְקוּם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֔יתִי מֵעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֥י הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֖'ashs no֑cha kּeko֥l 'ashsher-tziua֖hu yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And Noah did all that the LORD commanded him.

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ נֹ֑חַ כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖הוּ יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veno֕cha bּen-shshe֥shsh me'֖ot shshana֑h vehamּabּ֣ul haya֔h ma֖yim 'al-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth.

וְנֹ֕חַ בֶּן־שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וְהַמַּבּ֣וּל הָיָ֔ה מַ֖יִם עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣bo no֗cha u֠banayv ve'ishshetּ֧o uneshsheֽy-bana֛yv 'itּ֖o 'el-hatּeba֑h mipּene֖y me֥y hamּabּֽul׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the Ark to escape the waters of the flood.

וַיָּ֣בֹא נֹ֗חַ וּ֠בָנָיו וְאִשְׁתּ֧וֹ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנָ֛יו אִתּ֖וֹ אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֑ה מִפְּנֵ֖י מֵ֥י הַמַּבּֽוּל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): min-habּehemah֙ hatּehora֔h umin-ha֨bּehema֔h 'ashshe֥r 'eyne֖nּah tehora֑h umi֨n-ha'֔op veko֥l 'ashsher-rome֖shs 'al-haֽ'adamaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Pairs of clean and of animals that are not clean, and of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground,

מִן־הַבְּהֵמָה֙ הַטְּהוֹרָ֔ה וּמִן־הַ֨בְּהֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵינֶ֖נָּה טְהֹרָ֑ה וּמִ֨ן־הָע֔וֹף וְכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־רֹמֵ֖שׂ עַל־הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshena֨yim shshena֜yim bּa֧'u 'el-no֛cha 'el-hatּeba֖h zaka֣r uneqeba֑h kּֽa'ashshe֛r tziua֥h 'elohi֖ym 'et-noֽcha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)male and female, came to Noah and entered the Ark, as God had commanded Noah.

שְׁנַ֨יִם שְׁנַ֜יִם בָּ֧אוּ אֶל־נֹ֛חַ אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֖ה זָכָ֣ר וּנְקֵבָ֑ה כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת־נֹֽחַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayehi֖y leshshibe'a֣t hayּami֑ym ume֣y hamּabּ֔ul hay֖u 'al-ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.

וַֽיְהִ֖י לְשִׁבְעַ֣ת הַיָּמִ֑ים וּמֵ֣י הַמַּבּ֔וּל הָי֖וּ עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּishshena֨t shsheshsh-me'֤ot shshanah֙ lechayּey-no֔cha bּacho֨deshsh֙ hashshּeni֔y bּeshshibe'aֽh-'ashsa֥r y֖om lacho֑deshsh bּayּ֣om hazּe֗h nibeqe'u֙ kּaֽl-ma'eyenot֙ tּeh֣om rabּa֔h va'arubּo֥t hashshּama֖yim nipetּaֽchu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month, on that day all the fountains of the Great Deep (Tehom Raba) were broken open, and the sluice-gates of the heavens were opened.

בִּשְׁנַ֨ת שֵׁשׁ־מֵא֤וֹת שָׁנָה֙ לְחַיֵּי־נֹ֔חַ בַּחֹ֨דֶשׁ֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י בְּשִׁבְעָֽה־עָשָׂ֥ר י֖וֹם לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֗ה נִבְקְעוּ֙ כָּֽל־מַעְיְנֹת֙ תְּה֣וֹם רַבָּ֔ה וַאֲרֻבֹּ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם נִפְתָּֽחוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayehi֥y hagּe֖shshem 'al-ha'a֑retz 'arebּa'i֣ym y֔om ve'arebּa'i֖ym laֽyelah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And rain fell on the earth for forty days and forty nights.

וַֽיְהִ֥י הַגֶּ֖שֶׁם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֔וֹם וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים לָֽיְלָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe'e֨tzem hayּ֤om hazּeh֙ bּa֣ no֔cha veshshem-vecha֥m vaye֖pet bּeney-no֑cha ve'e֣shshet no֗cha ushshelo֧shshet neshsheֽy-bana֛yv 'itּa֖m 'el-hatּebaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the Ark.

בְּעֶ֨צֶם הַיּ֤וֹם הַזֶּה֙ בָּ֣א נֹ֔חַ וְשֵׁם־וְחָ֥ם וָיֶ֖פֶת בְּנֵי־נֹ֑חַ וְאֵ֣שֶׁת נֹ֗חַ וּשְׁלֹ֧שֶׁת נְשֵֽׁי־בָנָ֛יו אִתָּ֖ם אֶל־הַתֵּבָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): he֜mּah vekal-hֽachayּa֣h lemiyna֗hּ vekal-habּehemah֙ lemiyna֔hּ vekal-hare֛meshs harome֥shs 'al-ha'a֖retz lemiyne֑hu vekal-ha'֣op lemiyne֔hu kּo֖l tzipּ֥or kּal-kּanaֽp׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, every feathered thing on every wing.

הֵ֜מָּה וְכָל־הַֽחַיָּ֣ה לְמִינָ֗הּ וְכָל־הַבְּהֵמָה֙ לְמִינָ֔הּ וְכָל־הָרֶ֛מֶשׂ הָרֹמֵ֥שׂ עַל־הָאָ֖רֶץ לְמִינֵ֑הוּ וְכָל־הָע֣וֹף לְמִינֵ֔הוּ כֹּ֖ל צִפּ֥וֹר כָּל־כָּנָֽף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֥'u 'el-no֖cha 'el-hatּeba֑h shshena֤yim shshena֨yim֙ mikּal-habּashsa֔r 'ashsher-bּ֖o r֥ucha chayּiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Pairs of all flesh in which was the breath of life came to Noah and entered the Ark.

וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ אֶל־נֹ֖חַ אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֑ה שְׁנַ֤יִם שְׁנַ֨יִם֙ מִכָּל־הַבָּשָׂ֔ר אֲשֶׁר־בּ֖וֹ ר֥וּחַ חַיִּֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehabּa'i֗ym zaka֨r uneqeba֤h mikּal-bּashsar֙ bּa֔'u kּֽa'ashshe֛r tziua֥h 'ot֖o 'elohi֑ym vayּisegּo֥r yehva֖h bּֽa'adֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The animals entering were male and female of every kind of flesh, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut the door behind him.

וְהַבָּאִ֗ים זָכָ֨ר וּנְקֵבָ֤ה מִכָּל־בָּשָׂר֙ בָּ֔אוּ כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה אֹת֖וֹ אֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּסְגֹּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה בַּֽעֲדֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayehi֧y hamּabּ֛ul 'arebּa'i֥ym y֖om 'al-ha'a֑retz vayּirebּ֣u hamּa֗yim vayּishse'u֙ 'et-hatּeba֔h vatּa֖ram me'a֥l ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the Ark high above the earth.

וַֽיְהִ֧י הַמַּבּ֛וּל אַרְבָּעִ֥ים י֖וֹם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּרְבּ֣וּ הַמַּ֗יִם וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙ אֶת־הַתֵּבָ֔ה וַתָּ֖רָם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּigebּer֥u hamּa֛yim vayּirebּ֥u me'o֖d 'al-ha'a֑retz vatּe֥leke hatּeba֖h 'al-pּene֥y hamּaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the Ark went upon the faces of the waters.

וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ הַמַּ֛יִם וַיִּרְבּ֥וּ מְאֹ֖ד עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַתֵּ֥לֶךְ הַתֵּבָ֖ה עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַמָּֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehamּa֗yim gּaֽber֛u me'o֥d me'o֖d 'al-ha'a֑retz vayekusּ֗u kּal-hֽehariym֙ hagּebohi֔ym 'ashsher-tּa֖chat kּal-hashshּamaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains that were under the entire heavens were covered.

וְהַמַּ֗יִם גָּֽבְר֛וּ מְאֹ֥ד מְאֹ֖ד עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיְכֻסּ֗וּ כָּל־הֶֽהָרִים֙ הַגְּבֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־תַּ֖חַת כָּל־הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): chame֨shsh 'eshsere֤h 'amּah֙ milema֔'elah gּaber֖u hamּa֑yim vayekusּ֖u hehariֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The waters rose more than fifteen cubits and covered the mountains.

חֲמֵ֨שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה אַמָּה֙ מִלְמַ֔עְלָה גָּבְר֖וּ הַמָּ֑יִם וַיְכֻסּ֖וּ הֶהָרִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּigeva֞ kּal-bּashsa֣r ׀ harome֣shs 'al-ha'a֗retz bּa'֤op ubabּehemah֙ uba֣chayּa֔h ubekal-hashshּe֖retz hashshּore֣tz 'al-ha'a֑retz veko֖l ha'adaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And all flesh expired that moved on land, birds, livestock, wild animals, every creature that swarmed over the earth, and all mankind.

וַיִּגְוַ֞ע כָּל־בָּשָׂ֣ר ׀ הָרֹמֵ֣שׂ עַל־הָאָ֗רֶץ בָּע֤וֹף וּבַבְּהֵמָה֙ וּבַ֣חַיָּ֔ה וּבְכָל־הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ הַשֹּׁרֵ֣ץ עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וְכֹ֖ל הָאָדָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֡l 'ashsher֩ nishshemat-r֨ucha chayּi֜ym bּe'apּa֗yv mikּo֛l 'ashshe֥r bּechaֽraba֖h meֽtu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)All in whose nostrils was the breath of the Spirit of lives, all that were on dry land, died.

כֹּ֡ל אֲשֶׁר֩ נִשְׁמַת־ר֨וּחַ חַיִּ֜ים בְּאַפָּ֗יו מִכֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בֶּחָֽרָבָ֖ה מֵֽתוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֜mach 'eֽt-kּal-hayeq֣um ׀ 'ashshe֣r ׀ 'al-pּene֣y hֽa'adama֗h me'ada֤m 'ad-bּehemah֙ 'ad-re֨meshs֙ ve'ad-'֣op hashshּama֔yim vayּimּach֖u min-ha'a֑retz vayishshּa֧'er 'ake-no֛cha vֽa'ashshe֥r 'itּ֖o bּatּebaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)He blotted out every living substance that was on the face of the ground; mankind and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the sky were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the Ark.

וַיִּ֜מַח אֶֽת־כָּל־הַיְק֣וּם ׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֗ה מֵאָדָ֤ם עַד־בְּהֵמָה֙ עַד־רֶ֨מֶשׂ֙ וְעַד־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַיִּמָּח֖וּ מִן־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִשָּׁ֧אֶר אַךְ־נֹ֛חַ וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּ֖וֹ בַּתֵּבָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּigebּer֥u hamּa֖yim 'al-ha'a֑retz chamishshּi֥ym ume'a֖t yֽom׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The waters prevailed on the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ הַמַּ֖יִם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּמְאַ֖ת יֽוֹם׃
