Chapter 8
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּizekּo֤r 'elohiym֙ 'et-no֔cha ve'e֤t kּal-hֽachayּah֙ ve'et-kּal-habּehema֔h 'ashshe֥r 'itּ֖o bּatּeba֑h vayּa'abe֨r 'elohi֥ym r֨ucha֙ 'al-ha'a֔retz vayּashsho֖kּu hamּaֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the Ark; and God caused a Spirit-wind to pass over the earth, and the waters receded.

וַיִּזְכֹּ֤ר אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־נֹ֔חַ וְאֵ֤ת כָּל־הַֽחַיָּה֙ וְאֶת־כָּל־הַבְּהֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּ֖וֹ בַּתֵּבָ֑ה וַיַּעֲבֵ֨ר אֱלֹהִ֥ים ר֨וּחַ֙ עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ וַיָּשֹׁ֖כּוּ הַמָּֽיִם׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּisּaֽkeru֙ ma'eyeno֣t tּeh֔om vֽa'arubּo֖t hashshּama֑yim vayּikּale֥ hagּe֖shshem min-hashshּamaֽyim׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Also the fountains of the Great Deep and the sluice-gates of the heavens were stopped, and the rain from the heavens was restrained.

וַיִּסָּֽכְרוּ֙ מַעְיְנֹ֣ת תְּה֔וֹם וַֽאֲרֻבֹּ֖ת הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וַיִּכָּלֵ֥א הַגֶּ֖שֶׁם מִן־הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashshu֧bu hamּa֛yim me'a֥l ha'a֖retz hal֣oke vashsh֑ob vayּacheser֣u hamּa֔yim miqetze֕h chamishshּi֥ym ume'a֖t yֽom׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The waters receded steadily from the earth, and at the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters decreased.

וַיָּשֻׁ֧בוּ הַמַּ֛יִם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָ֖רֶץ הָל֣וֹךְ וָשׁ֑וֹב וַיַּחְסְר֣וּ הַמַּ֔יִם מִקְצֵ֕ה חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּמְאַ֖ת יֽוֹם׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּa֤nach hatּebah֙ bּacho֣deshsh hashshּebiy'i֔y bּeshshibe'ah-'ashsa֥r y֖om lacho֑deshsh 'a֖l hare֥y 'araraֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And the Ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat.

וַתָּ֤נַח הַתֵּבָה֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י בְּשִׁבְעָה־עָשָׂ֥ר י֖וֹם לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ עַ֖ל הָרֵ֥י אֲרָרָֽט׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehamּa֗yim hayu֙ hal֣oke vechas֔or 'a֖d hacho֣deshsh hֽa'ashsiyri֑y bּֽa'ashsiyriy֙ bּe'echa֣d lacho֔deshsh nire'֖u ra'shshe֥y hֽehariֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The waters continued to recede until the tenth month; on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.

וְהַמַּ֗יִם הָיוּ֙ הָל֣וֹךְ וְחָס֔וֹר עַ֖ד הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽעֲשִׂירִ֑י בָּֽעֲשִׂירִי֙ בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ נִרְא֖וּ רָאשֵׁ֥י הֶֽהָרִֽים׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽayehi֕y miqּe֖tz 'arebּa'i֣ym y֑om vayּipetּa֣ch no֔cha 'et-chalּ֥on hatּeba֖h 'ashshe֥r 'ashsaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)After forty days Noah opened the light-opening he had made in the Ark

וַֽיְהִ֕י מִקֵּ֖ץ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֑וֹם וַיִּפְתַּ֣ח נֹ֔חַ אֶת־חַלּ֥וֹן הַתֵּבָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayeshshalּa֖ch 'et-hֽa'ore֑b vayּetze֤ yatzo'֙ vashsh֔ob 'ad-yebo֥shshet hamּa֖yim me'a֥l ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the waters had dried up from the earth.

וַיְשַׁלַּ֖ח אֶת־הָֽעֹרֵ֑ב וַיֵּצֵ֤א יָצוֹא֙ וָשׁ֔וֹב עַד־יְבֹ֥שֶׁת הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayeshshalּa֥ch 'et-hayּona֖h me'itּ֑o lire'ot֙ haqa֣lּu hamּa֔yim me'a֖l pּene֥y hֽa'adamaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground.

וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֖ה מֵאִתּ֑וֹ לִרְאוֹת֙ הֲקַ֣לּוּ הַמַּ֔יִם מֵעַ֖ל פְּנֵ֥י הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): veloֽ'-matze'ah֩ hayּona֨h man֜ocha lekap-ragela֗hּ vatּa֤shshab 'elayv֙ 'el-hatּeba֔h kּiy-ma֖yim 'al-pּene֣y kal-ha'a֑retz vayּishshela֤ch yado֙ vayּiqּache֔ha vayּabe֥ 'ota֛hּ 'ela֖yv 'el-hatּebaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)But the dove could find no place to set its foot because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to him in the Ark. He reached out his hand and took it into the Ark.

וְלֹֽא־מָצְאָה֩ הַיּוֹנָ֨ה מָנ֜וֹחַ לְכַף־רַגְלָ֗הּ וַתָּ֤שָׁב אֵלָיו֙ אֶל־הַתֵּבָ֔ה כִּי־מַ֖יִם עַל־פְּנֵ֣י כָל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יָדוֹ֙ וַיִּקָּחֶ֔הָ וַיָּבֵ֥א אֹתָ֛הּ אֵלָ֖יו אֶל־הַתֵּבָֽה׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣chel '֔od shshibe'a֥t yami֖ym 'acheri֑ym vayּo֛sep shshalּa֥ch 'et-hayּona֖h min-hatּebaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the Ark.

וַיָּ֣חֶל ע֔וֹד שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים וַיֹּ֛סֶף שַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֖ה מִן־הַתֵּבָֽה׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּabo֨ 'ela֤yv hayּonah֙ le'e֣t 'e֔reb vehinּe֥h 'aleh-za֖yit tara֣p bּepi֑yha vayּe֣da no֔cha kּiy-qa֥lּu hamּa֖yim me'a֥l ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.

וַתָּבֹ֨א אֵלָ֤יו הַיּוֹנָה֙ לְעֵ֣ת עֶ֔רֶב וְהִנֵּ֥ה עֲלֵה־זַ֖יִת טָרָ֣ף בְּפִ֑יהָ וַיֵּ֣דַע נֹ֔חַ כִּי־קַ֥לּוּ הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiyּa֣chel '֔od shshibe'a֥t yami֖ym 'acheri֑ym vayeshshalּach֙ 'et-hayּona֔h veloֽ'-yasepa֥h shshub-'ela֖yv 'ֽod׃
Edified Edition (EDE)He waited seven more days and sent out the dove again, but it did not return to him anymore.

וַיִּיָּ֣חֶל ע֔וֹד שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים וַיְשַׁלַּח֙ אֶת־הַיּוֹנָ֔ה וְלֹֽא־יָסְפָ֥ה שׁוּב־אֵלָ֖יו עֽוֹד׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽa֠yehiy bּe'acha֨t veshsheshsh-me'֜ot shshana֗h bּֽari'shshon֙ bּe'echa֣d lacho֔deshsh chaֽreb֥u hamּa֖yim me'a֣l ha'a֑retz vayּa֤sar no֨cha֙ 'et-mikese֣h hatּeba֔h vayּa֕re vehinּe֥h chֽareb֖u pּene֥y hֽa'adamaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from the earth. Noah removed the covering of the Ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry.

וַֽ֠יְהִי בְּאַחַ֨ת וְשֵׁשׁ־מֵא֜וֹת שָׁנָ֗ה בָּֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ חָֽרְב֥וּ הַמַּ֖יִם מֵעַ֣ל הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּ֤סַר נֹ֨חַ֙ אֶת־מִכְסֵ֣ה הַתֵּבָ֔ה וַיַּ֕רְא וְהִנֵּ֥ה חָֽרְב֖וּ פְּנֵ֥י הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): ubacho֨deshsh֙ hashshּeni֔y bּeshshibe'a֧h ve'eshseri֛ym y֖om lacho֑deshsh yabeshsha֖h ha'aֽretz׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry.

וּבַחֹ֨דֶשׁ֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י בְּשִׁבְעָ֧ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֛ים י֖וֹם לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ יָבְשָׁ֖ה הָאָֽרֶץ׃ס

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayedabּe֥r 'elohi֖ym 'el-no֥cha le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then God said to Noah,

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל־נֹ֥חַ לֵאמֹֽר׃

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): tze֖ min-hatּeba֑h 'atּa֕h ve'ishshetּeka֛ ubane֥yka uneshsheֽy-bane֖yka 'itּaֽke׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Go out from the Ark, you and your wife and your sons and your sons' wives with you.

צֵ֖א מִן־הַתֵּבָ֑ה אַתָּ֕ה וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֛ וּבָנֶ֥יךָ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנֶ֖יךָ אִתָּֽךְ׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-hachayּa֨h 'ashsheֽr-'itּeka֜ mikּal-bּashsa֗r bּa'֧op ubabּehema֛h ubekal-hare֛meshs harome֥shs 'al-ha'a֖retz hvtz hayetze֣ 'itּa֑ke veshshֽaretz֣u ba'a֔retz upar֥u verab֖u 'al-ha'aֽretz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you, birds and cattle and every creeping thing that moves on the earth, so they can swarm on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on the earth."

כָּל־הַחַיָּ֨ה אֲשֶֽׁר־אִתְּךָ֜ מִכָּל־בָּשָׂ֗ר בָּע֧וֹף וּבַבְּהֵמָ֛ה וּבְכָל־הָרֶ֛מֶשׂ הָרֹמֵ֥שׂ עַל־הָאָ֖רֶץ הוצא הַיְצֵ֣א אִתָּ֑ךְ וְשָֽׁרְצ֣וּ בָאָ֔רֶץ וּפָר֥וּ וְרָב֖וּ עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֖tze'-no֑cha ubana֛yv ve'ishshetּ֥o uneshsheֽy-bana֖yv 'itּֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives.

וַיֵּ֖צֵא־נֹ֑חַ וּבָנָ֛יו וְאִשְׁתּ֥וֹ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנָ֖יו אִתּֽוֹ׃

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-hֽachayּa֗h kּal-hare֨meshs֙ vekal-ha'֔op kּo֖l rome֣shs 'al-ha'a֑retz lemishshepּecho֣teyhe֔m yatze'֖u min-hatּebaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Every living thing and every creeping thing and every bird, everything that moves on the earth, came out of the Ark, one kind after another.

כָּל־הַֽחַיָּ֗ה כָּל־הָרֶ֨מֶשׂ֙ וְכָל־הָע֔וֹף כֹּ֖ל רוֹמֵ֣שׂ עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ לְמִשְׁפְּחֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם יָצְא֖וּ מִן־הַתֵּבָֽה׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּi֥ben no֛cha mizebּe֖cha lֽayhva֑h vayּiqּa֞ch mikּo֣l ׀ habּehema֣h hatּehora֗h umikּol֙ ha'֣op hatּaho֔r vayּa֥'al 'olo֖t bּamּizebּeֽcha׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean cattle and clean birds, he offered burnt offerings on the altar.

וַיִּ֥בֶן נֹ֛חַ מִזְבֵּ֖חַ לַֽיהוָ֑ה וַיִּקַּ֞ח מִכֹּ֣ל ׀ הַבְּהֵמָ֣ה הַטְּהוֹרָ֗ה וּמִכֹּל֙ הָע֣וֹף הַטָּהֹ֔ר וַיַּ֥עַל עֹלֹ֖ת בַּמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֣rach yehvah֮ 'et-re֣ycha hanּiychocha֒ vayּo֨'mer yehva֜h 'el-libּ֗o loֽ'-'o֠sip leqalּe֨l '֤od 'et-haֽ'adamah֙ bּa'ab֣ur hֽa'ada֔m kּi֠y ye֣tzer le֧b ha'ada֛m ra֖ minּe'ura֑yv veloֽ'-'osi֥p '֛od lehakּ֥ot 'et-kּal-cha֖y kּֽa'ashshe֥r 'ashsiֽytiy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD smelled the aroma of rest; and the LORD said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground on account of man, even though the inclination of the heart of man is evil from his youth; neither will I again strike every living thing as I have done.

וַיָּ֣רַח יְהוָה֮ אֶת־רֵ֣יחַ הַנִּיחֹחַ֒ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־לִבּ֗וֹ לֹֽא־אֹ֠סִף לְקַלֵּ֨ל ע֤וֹד אֶת־הָֽאֲדָמָה֙ בַּעֲב֣וּר הָֽאָדָ֔ם כִּ֠י יֵ֣צֶר לֵ֧ב הָאָדָ֛ם רַ֖ע מִנְּעֻרָ֑יו וְלֹֽא־אֹסִ֥ף ע֛וֹד לְהַכּ֥וֹת אֶת־כָּל־חַ֖י כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִֽׂיתִי׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): o֖d kּal-yeme֣y ha'a֑retz ze֡ra ve֠qatziyr veqo֨r vacho֜m veqa֧yitz vacho֛rep vey֥om vala֖yelah lo֥ yishshebּoֽtu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

עֹ֖ד כָּל־יְמֵ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ זֶ֡רַע וְ֠קָצִיר וְקֹ֨ר וָחֹ֜ם וְקַ֧יִץ וָחֹ֛רֶף וְי֥וֹם וָלַ֖יְלָה לֹ֥א יִשְׁבֹּֽתוּ׃
