Chapter 2

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-mishshemaretּi֣y 'e'emo֔dah ve'eֽteyatzּeba֖h 'al-matz֑or va'atzapּe֗h lire'ot֙ mah-yedabּer-bּi֔y uma֥h 'ashshi֖yb 'al-tּokachetּiֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say to me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

עַל־מִשְׁמַרְתִּ֣י אֶעֱמֹ֔דָה וְאֶֽתְיַצְּבָ֖ה עַל־מָצ֑וֹר וַאֲצַפֶּ֗ה לִרְאוֹת֙ מַה־יְדַבֶּר־בִּ֔י וּמָ֥ה אָשִׁ֖יב עַל־תּוֹכַחְתִּֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa'ane֤niy yehvah֙ vayּo֔'mer kּet֣ob chaz֔on uba'e֖r 'al-halּuch֑ot lema֥'an yar֖utz q֥ore bֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the LORD answered me, and said, "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that reads it."

וַיַּעֲנֵ֤נִי יְהוָה֙ וַיֹּ֔אמֶר כְּת֣וֹב חָז֔וֹן וּבָאֵ֖ר עַל־הַלֻּח֑וֹת לְמַ֥עַן יָר֖וּץ ק֥וֹרֵא בֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y '֤od chazon֙ lamּo'e֔d veyape֥cha laqּe֖tz velo֣ yekazּe֑b 'im-yitemahemahּ֙ chakּeh-l֔o kּiֽy-bo֥ yabo֖ lo֥ ye'acheֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry."

כִּ֣י ע֤וֹד חָזוֹן֙ לַמּוֹעֵ֔ד וְיָפֵ֥חַ לַקֵּ֖ץ וְלֹ֣א יְכַזֵּ֑ב אִם־יִתְמַהְמָהּ֙ חַכֵּה־ל֔וֹ כִּֽי־בֹ֥א יָבֹ֖א לֹ֥א יְאַחֵֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֣h 'upּela֔h lo'-yashshera֥h napeshsh֖o bּ֑o vetzadּi֖yq bּe'emunat֥o yicheyeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but [1] THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY HIS FAITH."

הִנֵּ֣ה עֻפְּלָ֔ה לֹא־יָשְׁרָ֥ה נַפְשׁ֖וֹ בּ֑וֹ וְצַדִּ֖יק בֶּאֱמוּנָת֥וֹ יִחְיֶֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ap֙ kּiֽy-hayּa֣yin bּoge֔d gּe֥ber yahi֖yr velo֣ yineve֑h 'ashsher֩ hirechi֨yb kּishshe'֜ol napeshsh֗o veh֤u kamּa֨vet֙ velo֣ yishsebּa֔ vayּe'eso֤p 'elayv֙ kּal-hagּoyi֔m vayּiqebּo֥tz 'ela֖yv kּal-ha'amּiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlargs his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people:

וְאַף֙ כִּֽי־הַיַּ֣יִן בּוֹגֵ֔ד גֶּ֥בֶר יָהִ֖יר וְלֹ֣א יִנְוֶ֑ה אֲשֶׁר֩ הִרְחִ֨יב כִּשְׁא֜וֹל נַפְשׁ֗וֹ וְה֤וּא כַמָּ֨וֶת֙ וְלֹ֣א יִשְׂבָּ֔ע וַיֶּאֱסֹ֤ף אֵלָיו֙ כָּל־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וַיִּקְבֹּ֥ץ אֵלָ֖יו כָּל־הָעַמִּֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): halo'-'e֣lּeh kulּa֗m 'alayv֙ mashsha֣l yishsּa֔'u umeliytza֖h chiyd֣ot l֑o veyo'ma֗r h֚oy hamּarebּe֣h lּo'-l֔o 'ad-mata֕y umakebּi֥yd 'ala֖yv 'abetiֽyt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, "Woe to him that increases that which is not his! how long? and to him that lads himself with thick clay!"

הֲלוֹא־אֵ֣לֶּה כֻלָּ֗ם עָלָיו֙ מָשָׁ֣ל יִשָּׂ֔אוּ וּמְלִיצָ֖ה חִיד֣וֹת ל֑וֹ וְיֹאמַ֗ר ה֚וֹי הַמַּרְבֶּ֣ה לֹּא־ל֔וֹ עַד־מָתַ֕י וּמַכְבִּ֥יד עָלָ֖יו עַבְטִֽיט׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hal֣o pe֗ta yaq֨umu֙ noshsheke֔yka veyiqetz֖u meza'eze'e֑yka vehayi֥yta limeshshisּ֖ot laֽmo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booties to them?

הֲל֣וֹא פֶ֗תַע יָק֨וּמוּ֙ נֹשְׁכֶ֔יךָ וְיִקְצ֖וּ מְזַעְזְעֶ֑יךָ וְהָיִ֥יתָ לִמְשִׁסּ֖וֹת לָֽמוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy 'atּa֤h shshalּ֨ota֙ gּoyi֣m rabּi֔ym yeshshalּ֖uka kּal-ye֣ter 'amּi֑ym midּeme֤y 'adam֙ vachamas-'e֔retz qireya֖h vekal-yo֥shshebey baֽhּ׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Because you hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

כִּֽי אַתָּ֤ה שַׁלּ֨וֹתָ֙ גּוֹיִ֣ם רַבִּ֔ים יְשָׁלּ֖וּךָ כָּל־יֶ֣תֶר עַמִּ֑ים מִדְּמֵ֤י אָדָם֙ וַחֲמַס־אֶ֔רֶץ קִרְיָ֖ה וְכָל־יֹ֥שְׁבֵי בָֽהּ׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֗oy bּotze֛'a bּe֥tza ra֖ lebeyt֑o lashs֤um bּamּarom֙ qinּ֔o lehinּatze֖l mikּap-raֽ'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

ה֗וֹי בֹּצֵ֛עַ בֶּ֥צַע רָ֖ע לְבֵית֑וֹ לָשׂ֤וּם בַּמָּרוֹם֙ קִנּ֔וֹ לְהִנָּצֵ֖ל מִכַּף־רָֽע׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ya'a֥tzetּa bּo֖shshet lebeyte֑ka qetzot-'amּi֥ym rabּi֖ym vechote֥ napeshsheֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You hast consulted shame to your house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against your soul.

יָעַ֥צְתָּ בֹּ֖שֶׁת לְבֵיתֶ֑ךָ קְצוֹת־עַמִּ֥ים רַבִּ֖ים וְחוֹטֵ֥א נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiy-'e֖ben miqּi֣yr tּize'a֑q vekapi֖ys me'e֥tz ya'aneֽnּah׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

כִּי־אֶ֖בֶן מִקִּ֣יר תִּזְעָ֑ק וְכָפִ֖יס מֵעֵ֥ץ יַעֲנֶֽנָּה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֛oy bּone֥h 'i֖yr bּedami֑ym vekone֥n qireya֖h bּe'avelaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to him that builds a town with blood, and stablishes a city by iniquity!

ה֛וֹי בֹּנֶ֥ה עִ֖יר בְּדָמִ֑ים וְכוֹנֵ֥ן קִרְיָ֖ה בְּעַוְלָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hal֣o hinּe֔h me'e֖t yehva֣h tzeba'֑ot veyiֽyge'֤u 'amּiym֙ bּedey-'e֔shsh ule'umּi֖ym bּedey-ri֥yq yi'aֽpu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

הֲל֣וֹא הִנֵּ֔ה מֵאֵ֖ת יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֑וֹת וְיִֽיגְע֤וּ עַמִּים֙ בְּדֵי־אֵ֔שׁ וּלְאֻמִּ֖ים בְּדֵי־רִ֥יק יִעָֽפוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֚y tּimּale֣ ha'a֔retz lada֖'at 'et-kּeb֣od yehva֑h kּamּa֖yim yekasּ֥u 'al-yaֽm׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

כִּ֚י תִּמָּלֵ֣א הָאָ֔רֶץ לָדַ֖עַת אֶת־כְּב֣וֹד יְהוָ֑ה כַּמַּ֖יִם יְכַסּ֥וּ עַל־יָֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֚oy mashsheqe֣h re'e֔hu mesapּe֥cha chamateka֖ ve'a֣p shshakּe֑r lema֥'an habּi֖yt 'al-me'oreyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to him that gives his neighbour drink, that puttest your bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that you mayest look on their nakedness!

ה֚וֹי מַשְׁקֵ֣ה רֵעֵ֔הוּ מְסַפֵּ֥חַ חֲמָתְךָ֖ וְאַ֣ף שַׁכֵּ֑ר לְמַ֥עַן הַבִּ֖יט עַל־מְעוֹרֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shsaba֤'etּa qalon֙ mikּab֔od shshete֥h gam-'a֖tּah veheֽ'are֑l tּisּ֣ob 'ale֗yka kּ֚os yemi֣yn yehva֔h veqiyqal֖on 'al-kּebodeֽka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You are filled with shame for glory: drink you also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned to you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory.

שָׂבַ֤עְתָּ קָלוֹן֙ מִכָּב֔וֹד שְׁתֵ֥ה גַם־אַ֖תָּה וְהֵֽעָרֵ֑ל תִּסּ֣וֹב עָלֶ֗יךָ כּ֚וֹס יְמִ֣ין יְהוָ֔ה וְקִיקָל֖וֹן עַל־כְּבוֹדֶֽךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y chama֤s lebanon֙ yekasּe֔kּa veshsho֥d bּehem֖ot yechiyta֑n midּeme֤y 'adam֙ vachamas-'e֔retz qireya֖h vekal-yo֥shshebey baֽhּ׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

כִּ֣י חֲמַ֤ס לְבָנוֹן֙ יְכַסֶּ֔ךָּ וְשֹׁ֥ד בְּהֵמ֖וֹת יְחִיתַ֑ן מִדְּמֵ֤י אָדָם֙ וַחֲמַס־אֶ֔רֶץ קִרְיָ֖ה וְכָל־יֹ֥שְׁבֵי בָֽהּ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): maֽh-ho'i֣yl pּe֗sel kּi֤y pesalo֙ yoֽtzer֔o masּeka֖h um֣oreh shshּa֑qer kּi֣y bata֞ch yotze֤r yitzero֙ 'ala֔yv la'ashs֖ot 'eliyli֥ym 'ilּemiֽym׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)What profits the graven image that the maker thereof has graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts therein, to make dumb idols?

מָֽה־הוֹעִ֣יל פֶּ֗סֶל כִּ֤י פְסָלוֹ֙ יֹֽצְר֔וֹ מַסֵּכָ֖ה וּמ֣וֹרֶה שָּׁ֑קֶר כִּ֣י בָטַ֞ח יֹצֵ֤ר יִצְרוֹ֙ עָלָ֔יו לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת אֱלִילִ֥ים אִלְּמִֽים׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֣oy 'ome֤r la'etz֙ haqi֔ytzah '֖uriy le'e֣ben dּuma֑m h֣u yore֔h hinּeh-h֗u tּapushs֙ zaha֣b vake֔sep vekal-r֖ucha 'e֥yn bּeqirebּֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to him that says to the wood, "Awake;" to the dumb stone, "Arise, it shall teach!" Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

ה֣וֹי אֹמֵ֤ר לָעֵץ֙ הָקִ֔יצָה ע֖וּרִי לְאֶ֣בֶן דּוּמָ֑ם ה֣וּא יוֹרֶ֔ה הִנֵּה־ה֗וּא תָּפוּשׂ֙ זָהָ֣ב וָכֶ֔סֶף וְכָל־ר֖וּחַ אֵ֥ין בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyhva֖h bּeheyka֣l qadeshsh֑o ha֥s mipּana֖yv kּal-ha'aֽretz׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)But the LORD is in His holy temple: let all the earth [2] keep silence before Him.

וַֽיהוָ֖ה בְּהֵיכַ֣ל קָדְשׁ֑וֹ הַ֥ס מִפָּנָ֖יו כָּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃פ
