Hosea

Chapter 13
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּedabּe֤r 'epera֨yim֙ rete֔t nashsa֥ h֖u bּeyishsera'e֑l vayּe'eshsha֥m bּabּa֖'al vayּamoֽt׃
Edified Edition (EDE)When Ephraim spoke trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

כְּדַבֵּ֤ר אֶפְרַ֨יִם֙ רְתֵ֔ת נָשָׂ֥א ה֖וּא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֶּאְשַׁ֥ם בַּבַּ֖עַל וַיָּמֹֽת׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֣h ׀ yosi֣pu lachato֗ vayּa'eshs֣u lahem֩ masּeka֨h mikּasepּa֤m kּitebunam֙ 'atzabּi֔ym ma'ashse֥h charashshi֖ym kּulּo֑h lahem֙ he֣m 'omeri֔ym zobeche֣y 'ada֔m 'agali֖ym yishshּaqֽun׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, "Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves."

וְעַתָּ֣ה ׀ יוֹסִ֣פוּ לַחֲטֹ֗א וַיַּעְשׂ֣וּ לָהֶם֩ מַסֵּכָ֨ה מִכַּסְפָּ֤ם כִּתְבוּנָם֙ עֲצַבִּ֔ים מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה חָרָשִׁ֖ים כֻּלֹּ֑ה לָהֶם֙ הֵ֣ם אֹמְרִ֔ים זֹבְחֵ֣י אָדָ֔ם עֲגָלִ֖ים יִשָּׁקֽוּן׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֗n yiֽheyu֙ kּa'anan-bּo֔qer vekatּa֖l mashshekּi֣ym hole֑ke kּemotz֙ yeso'e֣r migּo֔ren uke'ashsha֖n me'arubּaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

לָכֵ֗ן יִֽהְיוּ֙ כַּעֲנַן־בֹּ֔קֶר וְכַטַּ֖ל מַשְׁכִּ֣ים הֹלֵ֑ךְ כְּמֹץ֙ יְסֹעֵ֣ר מִגֹּ֔רֶן וּכְעָשָׁ֖ן מֵאֲרֻבָּֽה׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'anoki֛y yehva֥h 'elohe֖yka me'e֣retz mitzera֑yim ve'lohi֤ym zֽulatiy֙ lo֣ teda֔ umoshshi֥y'a 'a֖yin bּiletּiֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no god but Me: for there is no saviour beside Me.

וְאָנֹכִ֛י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם וֵאלֹהִ֤ים זֽוּלָתִי֙ לֹ֣א תֵדָ֔ע וּמוֹשִׁ֥יעַ אַ֖יִן בִּלְתִּֽי׃

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): ani֥y yeda'etּi֖yka bּamּidebּa֑r bּe'e֖retz tּale'ubֽot׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I did know you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

אֲנִ֥י יְדַעְתִּ֖יךָ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר בְּאֶ֖רֶץ תַּלְאֻבֽוֹת׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּemare'iytam֙ vayּishsebּa֔'u shsabe'֖u vayּa֣ram libּa֑m 'al-kּe֖n shshekechֽuniy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten Me.

כְּמַרְעִיתָם֙ וַיִּשְׂבָּ֔עוּ שָׂבְע֖וּ וַיָּ֣רָם לִבָּ֑ם עַל־כֵּ֖ן שְׁכֵחֽוּנִי׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'ehi֥y lahe֖m kּemo-shsha֑chal kּename֖r 'al-dּe֥reke 'ashshֽur׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I will be to them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:

וָאֱהִ֥י לָהֶ֖ם כְּמוֹ־שָׁ֑חַל כְּנָמֵ֖ר עַל־דֶּ֥רֶךְ אָשֽׁוּר׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): epegּeshshem֙ kּedo֣b shshakּ֔ul ve'eqera֖ seg֣or libּa֑m ve'okele֥m shsham֙ kּelabi֔y chayּa֥t hashsּade֖h tּebaqּe'eֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

אֶפְגְּשֵׁם֙ כְּדֹ֣ב שַׁכּ֔וּל וְאֶקְרַ֖ע סְג֣וֹר לִבָּ֑ם וְאֹכְלֵ֥ם שָׁם֙ כְּלָבִ֔יא חַיַּ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה תְּבַקְּעֵֽם׃

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): shshiֽcheteka֥ yishsera'e֖l kּiֽy-bi֥y be'ezereֽka׃
Edified Edition (EDE)O Israel, you hast destroyed yourself; but in Me is your help.

שִֽׁחֶתְךָ֥ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כִּֽי־בִ֥י בְעֶזְרֶֽךָ׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): ehi֤y malekּeka֙ 'ep֔o veyoshshiֽy'aka֖ bּekal-'are֑yka veshsho֣pete֔yka 'ashshe֣r 'ama֔retּa tּenah-lּi֖y me֥leke veshsariֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I will be your king: where is any other that may save you in all your cities? and your judges of whom you did say, "Give me a king and princes?"

אֱהִ֤י מַלְכְּךָ֙ אֵפ֔וֹא וְיוֹשִֽׁיעֲךָ֖ בְּכָל־עָרֶ֑יךָ וְשֹׁ֣פְטֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֔רְתָּ תְּנָה־לִּ֖י מֶ֥לֶךְ וְשָׂרִֽים׃

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): eֽtּen-leka֥ me֨leke֙ bּe'apּi֔y ve'eqּa֖ch bּe'eberatiֽy׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)I gave you a king in Mine anger, and took him away in My wrath.

אֶֽתֶּן־לְךָ֥ מֶ֨לֶךְ֙ בְּאַפִּ֔י וְאֶקַּ֖ח בְּעֶבְרָתִֽי׃ס

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): tzarur֙ 'avo֣n 'epera֔yim tzepuna֖h chatּa'tֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

צָרוּר֙ עֲוֺ֣ן אֶפְרָ֔יִם צְפוּנָ֖ה חַטָּאתֽוֹ׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): chebele֥y yֽoleda֖h yabo֣'u l֑o hu'-ben֙ lo֣ chaka֔m kּiֽy-'e֥t loֽ'-ya'amo֖d bּemishshebּa֥r bּaniֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.

חֶבְלֵ֥י יֽוֹלֵדָ֖ה יָבֹ֣אוּ ל֑וֹ הוּא־בֵן֙ לֹ֣א חָכָ֔ם כִּֽי־עֵ֥ת לֹֽא־יַעֲמֹ֖ד בְּמִשְׁבַּ֥ר בָּנִֽים׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): miyּa֤d shshe'ol֙ 'epedּe֔m mimּa֖vet 'ege'ale֑m 'ehi֨y debareyka֜ ma֗vet 'ehi֤y qaֽtabeka֙ shshe'֔ol no֖cham yisּate֥r me'eynaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be your plagues; O grave, I will be your destruction: repentance shall be hid from Mine eyes.

מִיַּ֤ד שְׁאוֹל֙ אֶפְדֵּ֔ם מִמָּ֖וֶת אֶגְאָלֵ֑ם אֱהִ֨י דְבָרֶיךָ֜ מָ֗וֶת אֱהִ֤י קָֽטָבְךָ֙ שְׁא֔וֹל נֹ֖חַם יִסָּתֵ֥ר מֵעֵינָֽי׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y h֔u bּe֥n 'achi֖ym yaperi֑y yab֣o qadiym֩ r֨ucha yehva֜h mimּidebּa֣r 'ole֗h veyeb֤oshsh meqoro֙ veyechera֣b ma'eyan֔o h֣u yishshese֔h 'otza֖r kּal-kּeli֥y chemedּaֽh׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Though he be fruitful among his brothers, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

כִּ֣י ה֔וּא בֵּ֥ן אַחִ֖ים יַפְרִ֑יא יָב֣וֹא קָדִים֩ ר֨וּחַ יְהוָ֜ה מִמִּדְבָּ֣ר עֹלֶ֗ה וְיֵב֤וֹשׁ מְקוֹרוֹ֙ וְיֶחֱרַ֣ב מַעְיָנ֔וֹ ה֣וּא יִשְׁסֶ֔ה אוֹצַ֖ר כָּל־כְּלִ֥י חֶמְדָּֽה׃
