Chapter 9

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-tּishsema֨ch yishsera'e֤l ׀ 'el-gּiyl֙ kּaֽ'amּi֔ym kּi֥y zani֖yta me'a֣l 'elohe֑yka 'aha֣betּa 'etena֔n 'a֖l kּal-gּaren֥ot dּagaֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for you hast gone a whoring from your God, you hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.

אַל־תִּשְׂמַ֨ח יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל ׀ אֶל־גִּיל֙ כָּֽעַמִּ֔ים כִּ֥י זָנִ֖יתָ מֵעַ֣ל אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ אָהַ֣בְתָּ אֶתְנָ֔ן עַ֖ל כָּל־גָּרְנ֥וֹת דָּגָֽן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּo֥ren vaye֖qeb lo֣ yire'e֑m vetiyr֖oshsh yeka֥cheshsh bּaֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.

גֹּ֥רֶן וָיֶ֖קֶב לֹ֣א יִרְעֵ֑ם וְתִיר֖וֹשׁ יְכַ֥חֶשׁ בָּֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lo֥ yeshsheb֖u bּe'e֣retz yehva֑h veshsha֤b 'epera֨yim֙ mitzera֔yim ube'ashshּ֖ur tame֥ yo'keֽlu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They shall not dwell in the LORD'S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.

לֹ֥א יֵשְׁב֖וּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ יְהוָ֑ה וְשָׁ֤ב אֶפְרַ֨יִם֙ מִצְרַ֔יִם וּבְאַשּׁ֖וּר טָמֵ֥א יֹאכֵֽלוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lo'-yisּek֨u layhva֥h ׀ yayin֮ velo֣ yeֽ'erebu-lo֒ zibecheyhe֗m kּele֤chem 'oniym֙ lahe֔m kּal-'okela֖yv yitamּa֑'u kּiֽy-lachema֣m lenapeshsha֔m lo֥ yab֖o bּe֥yt yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing to Him: their sacrifices shall be to them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.

לֹא־יִסְּכ֨וּ לַיהוָ֥ה ׀ יַיִן֮ וְלֹ֣א יֶֽעֶרְבוּ־לוֹ֒ זִבְחֵיהֶ֗ם כְּלֶ֤חֶם אוֹנִים֙ לָהֶ֔ם כָּל־אֹכְלָ֖יו יִטַמָּ֑אוּ כִּֽי־לַחְמָ֣ם לְנַפְשָׁ֔ם לֹ֥א יָב֖וֹא בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): maֽh-tּa'ashs֖u ley֣om mo'e֑d uley֖om chag-yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)What will you do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?

מַֽה־תַּעֲשׂ֖וּ לְי֣וֹם מוֹעֵ֑ד וּלְי֖וֹם חַג־יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-hinּe֤h haֽleku֙ mishshּo֔d mitzera֥yim tּeqabּetze֖m mo֣p tּeqabּere֑m machema֣d lekasepּa֗m qimּoshs֙ yiֽyrashshe֔m ch֖ocha bּe'aholeyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.

כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֤ה הָֽלְכוּ֙ מִשֹּׁ֔ד מִצְרַ֥יִם תְּקַבְּצֵ֖ם מֹ֣ף תְּקַבְּרֵ֑ם מַחְמַ֣ד לְכַסְפָּ֗ם קִמּוֹשׂ֙ יִֽירָשֵׁ֔ם ח֖וֹחַ בְּאָהֳלֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּa֣'u ׀ yeme֣y hapּequdּa֗h bּa֚'u yeme֣y hashshilּu֔m yede'֖u yishsera'e֑l 'evi֣yl hanּabi֗y meshshugּa'֙ 'i֣yshsh har֔ucha 'a֚l ro֣b 'avoneka֔ verabּa֖h mashsetemaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of your iniquity, and the great hatred.

בָּ֣אוּ ׀ יְמֵ֣י הַפְּקֻדָּ֗ה בָּ֚אוּ יְמֵ֣י הַשִׁלֻּ֔ם יֵדְע֖וּ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֱוִ֣יל הַנָּבִ֗יא מְשֻׁגָּע֙ אִ֣ישׁ הָר֔וּחַ עַ֚ל רֹ֣ב עֲוֺנְךָ֔ וְרַבָּ֖ה מַשְׂטֵמָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tzope֥h 'epera֖yim 'im-'eloha֑y nabi֞y pּa֤ch yaqoshsh֙ 'al-kּal-dּeraka֔yv mashsetema֖h bּebe֥yt 'elohaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.

צֹפֶ֥ה אֶפְרַ֖יִם עִם־אֱלֹהָ֑י נָבִ֞יא פַּ֤ח יָקוֹשׁ֙ עַל־כָּל־דְּרָכָ֔יו מַשְׂטֵמָ֖ה בְּבֵ֥ית אֱלֹהָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): he'emiֽyqu-shshiche֖tu kּiyme֣y hagּibe'a֑h yizekּ֣or 'avona֔m yipeq֖od chatּo'vtaֽm׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore He will remember their iniquity, He will visit their sins.

הֶעְמִֽיקוּ־שִׁחֵ֖תוּ כִּימֵ֣י הַגִּבְעָ֑ה יִזְכּ֣וֹר עֲוֺנָ֔ם יִפְק֖וֹד חַטֹּאותָֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּa'anabi֣ym bּamּidebּa֗r matza֨'tiy֙ yishsera'e֔l kּebikּura֤h bite'enah֙ bּere֣'shshiyta֔hּ ra'i֖ytiy 'abֽoteyke֑m he֜mּah bּa֣'u baֽ'al-pּe'֗or vayּinּaֽzeru֙ labּo֔shshet vayּihey֥u shshiqּutzi֖ym kּe'ahobaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves to that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.

כַּעֲנָבִ֣ים בַּמִּדְבָּ֗ר מָצָ֨אתִי֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כְּבִכּוּרָ֤ה בִתְאֵנָה֙ בְּרֵ֣אשִׁיתָ֔הּ רָאִ֖יתִי אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם הֵ֜מָּה בָּ֣אוּ בַֽעַל־פְּע֗וֹר וַיִּנָּֽזְרוּ֙ לַבֹּ֔שֶׁת וַיִּהְי֥וּ שִׁקּוּצִ֖ים כְּאָהֳבָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): epera֕yim kּa'֖op yite'ope֣p kּeboda֑m milּeda֥h umibּe֖ten umeherayֽon׃

Edified Edition (EDE)As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

אֶפְרַ֕יִם כָּע֖וֹף יִתְעוֹפֵ֣ף כְּבוֹדָ֑ם מִלֵּדָ֥ה וּמִבֶּ֖טֶן וּמֵהֵרָיֽוֹן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֤y 'im-yegadּelu֙ 'et-bּeneyhe֔m veshshikּaletּi֖ym meֽ'ada֑m kּiֽy-gam-'֥oy lahe֖m bּeshsuri֥y meheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

כִּ֤י אִם־יְגַדְּלוּ֙ אֶת־בְּנֵיהֶ֔ם וְשִׁכַּלְתִּ֖ים מֵֽאָדָ֑ם כִּֽי־גַם־א֥וֹי לָהֶ֖ם בְּשׂוּרִ֥י מֵהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): epera֛yim kּa'ashsher-ra'i֥ytiy letz֖or shshetula֣h benave֑h ve'epera֕yim lehotzi֥y 'el-hore֖g bּanaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.

אֶפְרַ֛יִם כַּאֲשֶׁר־רָאִ֥יתִי לְצ֖וֹר שְׁתוּלָ֣ה בְנָוֶ֑ה וְאֶפְרַ֕יִם לְהוֹצִ֥יא אֶל־הֹרֵ֖ג בָּנָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tּen-lahe֥m yehva֖h mah-tּitּe֑n tּen-lahem֙ re֣chem mashshekּi֔yl veshshada֖yim tzomeqiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Give them, O LORD: what will You give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

תֵּן־לָהֶ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה מַה־תִּתֵּ֑ן תֵּן־לָהֶם֙ רֶ֣חֶם מַשְׁכִּ֔יל וְשָׁדַ֖יִם צֹמְקִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּal-ra'ata֤m bּagּilegּal֙ kּiֽy-shsha֣m shsene'ti֔ym 'a֚l ro֣'a maֽ'aleleyhe֔m mibּeyti֖y 'agareshshe֑m lo֤ 'osep֙ 'ahabata֔m kּal-shsareyhe֖m soreriֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of Mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.

כָּל־רָעָתָ֤ם בַּגִּלְגָּל֙ כִּֽי־שָׁ֣ם שְׂנֵאתִ֔ים עַ֚ל רֹ֣עַ מַֽעַלְלֵיהֶ֔ם מִבֵּיתִ֖י אֲגָרְשֵׁ֑ם לֹ֤א אוֹסֵף֙ אַהֲבָתָ֔ם כָּל־שָׂרֵיהֶ֖ם סֹרְרִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hukּa֣h 'epera֔yim shshareshsha֥m yabe֖shsh pּeri֣y bly baֽl-ya'ashs֑un gּa֚m kּi֣y yeֽled֔un vehematּi֖y machamadּe֥y bitenaֽm׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yes, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.

הֻכָּ֣ה אֶפְרַ֔יִם שָׁרְשָׁ֥ם יָבֵ֖שׁ פְּרִ֣י בלי בַֽל־יַעֲשׂ֑וּן גַּ֚ם כִּ֣י יֵֽלֵד֔וּן וְהֵמַתִּ֖י מַחֲמַדֵּ֥י בִטְנָֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): yime'ase֣m 'eloha֔y kּi֛y lo֥ shshame'֖u l֑o veyihey֥u nodedi֖ym bּagּoyiֽm׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken to Him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

יִמְאָסֵ֣ם אֱלֹהַ֔י כִּ֛י לֹ֥א שָׁמְע֖וּ ל֑וֹ וְיִהְי֥וּ נֹדְדִ֖ים בַּגּוֹיִֽם׃ס
