Chapter 2

Phonetic (Hebrew): hadּabar֙ 'ashshe֣r chaza֔h yeshshaֽ'eya֖hu bּen-'am֑otz 'al-yehuda֖h viyrushshalaiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָזָ֔ה יְשַֽׁעְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אָמ֑וֹץ עַל־יְהוּדָ֖ה וִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֣h ׀ bּe'achari֣yt hayּami֗ym nak֨on yiֽheye֜h ha֤r bּeyt-yehvah֙ bּero֣'shsh hehari֔ym venishsּa֖ migּeba'֑ot venahar֥u 'ela֖yv kּal-hagּoyiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.

וְהָיָ֣ה ׀ בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית הַיָּמִ֗ים נָכ֨וֹן יִֽהְיֶ֜ה הַ֤ר בֵּית־יְהוָה֙ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ הֶהָרִ֔ים וְנִשָּׂ֖א מִגְּבָע֑וֹת וְנָהֲר֥וּ אֵלָ֖יו כָּל־הַגּוֹיִֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veֽhalek֞u 'amּi֣ym rabּi֗ym ve'ameru֙ lek֣u ׀ vena'ale֣h 'el-har-yehva֗h 'el-bּeyt֙ 'elohe֣y ya'aqo֔b veyore֨nu֙ midּeraka֔yv veneleka֖h bּe'orechota֑yv kּi֤y mitzּiyּon֙ tּetze֣ tora֔h udebar-yehva֖h miyrushshalaiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And many people shall go and say, "Come you, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths:" for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

וְֽהָלְכ֞וּ עַמִּ֣ים רַבִּ֗ים וְאָמְרוּ֙ לְכ֣וּ ׀ וְנַעֲלֶ֣ה אֶל־הַר־יְהוָ֗ה אֶל־בֵּית֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְיֹרֵ֨נוּ֙ מִדְּרָכָ֔יו וְנֵלְכָ֖ה בְּאֹרְחֹתָ֑יו כִּ֤י מִצִּיּוֹן֙ תֵּצֵ֣א תוֹרָ֔ה וּדְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה מִירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshapat֙ bּe֣yn hagּoyi֔m vehoki֖ycha le'amּi֣ym rabּi֑ym vekitּet֨u charebota֜m le'itּi֗ym vachaniytֽoteyhem֙ lemazemer֔ot lo'-yishsּa֨ g֤oy 'el-gּoy֙ che֔reb velo'-yilemed֥u '֖od milechamaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)And He shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

וְשָׁפַט֙ בֵּ֣ין הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וְהוֹכִ֖יחַ לְעַמִּ֣ים רַבִּ֑ים וְכִתְּת֨וּ חַרְבוֹתָ֜ם לְאִתִּ֗ים וַחֲנִיתֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ לְמַזְמֵר֔וֹת לֹא־יִשָּׂ֨א ג֤וֹי אֶל־גּוֹי֙ חֶ֔רֶב וְלֹא־יִלְמְד֥וּ ע֖וֹד מִלְחָמָֽה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe֖yt ya'aqo֑b lek֥u veneleka֖h bּe'֥or yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)O house of Jacob, come you, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

בֵּ֖ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב לְכ֥וּ וְנֵלְכָ֖ה בְּא֥וֹר יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y nata֗shshetּah 'amּeka֙ bּe֣yt ya'aqo֔b kּi֤y male'u֙ miqּe֔dem ve'oֽneni֖ym kּapּelishshetּi֑ym ubeyalede֥y nakeri֖ym yashsepּiֽyqu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore You have forsaken Your people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.

כִּ֣י נָטַ֗שְׁתָּה עַמְּךָ֙ בֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֔ב כִּ֤י מָלְאוּ֙ מִקֶּ֔דֶם וְעֹֽנְנִ֖ים כַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וּבְיַלְדֵ֥י נָכְרִ֖ים יַשְׂפִּֽיקוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּimּale֤ 'aretzo֙ kּe֣sep vezaha֔b ve'e֥yn qe֖tzeh le'otzerota֑yv vatּimּale֤ 'aretzo֙ susi֔ym ve'e֥yn qe֖tzeh lemarekּebotaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:

וַתִּמָּלֵ֤א אַרְצוֹ֙ כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֔ב וְאֵ֥ין קֵ֖צֶה לְאֹצְרֹתָ֑יו וַתִּמָּלֵ֤א אַרְצוֹ֙ סוּסִ֔ים וְאֵ֥ין קֵ֖צֶה לְמַרְכְּבֹתָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּimּale֥ 'aretz֖o 'eliyli֑ym lema'ashse֤h yadayv֙ yiֽshshetּachav֔u la'ashshe֥r 'ashs֖u 'etzebּe'otaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:

וַתִּמָּלֵ֥א אַרְצ֖וֹ אֱלִילִ֑ים לְמַעֲשֵׂ֤ה יָדָיו֙ יִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֔וּ לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשׂ֖וּ אֶצְבְּעֹתָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshּa֥ch 'ada֖m vayּishshepּal-'i֑yshsh ve'al-tּishsּa֖ laheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the mean man bows down, and the great man humbles himself: therefore forgive them not.

וַיִּשַּׁ֥ח אָדָ֖ם וַיִּשְׁפַּל־אִ֑ישׁ וְאַל־תִּשָּׂ֖א לָהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּ֣o batzּ֔ur vehitּame֖n bּeֽ'apa֑r mipּeney֙ pּa֣chad yehva֔h umehada֖r gּe'onֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty.

בּ֣וֹא בַצּ֔וּר וְהִטָּמֵ֖ן בֶּֽעָפָ֑ר מִפְּנֵי֙ פַּ֣חַד יְהוָ֔ה וּמֵהֲדַ֖ר גְּאֹנֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): eyne֞y gּabeh֤ut 'adam֙ shshape֔l veshsha֖ch r֣um 'anashshi֑ym venishsegּa֧b yehva֛h lebadּ֖o bּayּ֥om hahֽu'׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

עֵינֵ֞י גַּבְה֤וּת אָדָם֙ שָׁפֵ֔ל וְשַׁ֖ח ר֣וּם אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וְנִשְׂגַּ֧ב יְהוָ֛ה לְבַדּ֖וֹ בַּיּ֥וֹם הַהֽוּא׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y y֞om layhva֧h tzeba'֛ot 'a֥l kּal-gּe'e֖h vara֑m ve'a֖l kּal-nishsּa֥ veshshapeֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

כִּ֣י י֞וֹם לַיהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת עַ֥ל כָּל־גֵּאֶ֖ה וָרָ֑ם וְעַ֖ל כָּל־נִשָּׂ֥א וְשָׁפֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al֙ kּal-'areze֣y halּeban֔on harami֖ym vehanּishsּa'i֑ym ve'a֖l kּal-'alּone֥y habּashshaֽn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,

וְעַל֙ כָּל־אַרְזֵ֣י הַלְּבָנ֔וֹן הָרָמִ֖ים וְהַנִּשָּׂאִ֑ים וְעַ֖ל כָּל־אַלּוֹנֵ֥י הַבָּשָֽׁן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֖l kּal-hehari֣ym harami֑ym ve'a֖l kּal-hagּeba'֥ot hanּishsּa'ֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,

וְעַ֖ל כָּל־הֶהָרִ֣ים הָרָמִ֑ים וְעַ֖ל כָּל־הַגְּבָע֥וֹת הַנִּשָּׂאֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֖l kּal-migedּa֣l gּabo֑ha ve'a֖l kּal-choma֥h betzuraֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall,

וְעַ֖ל כָּל־מִגְדָּ֣ל גָּבֹ֑הַ וְעַ֖ל כָּל־חוֹמָ֥ה בְצוּרָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֖l kּal-'oniyּ֣ot tּareshshi֑yshsh ve'a֖l kּal-shsekiyּ֥ot hachemedּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures.

וְעַ֖ל כָּל־אֳנִיּ֣וֹת תַּרְשִׁ֑ישׁ וְעַ֖ל כָּל־שְׂכִיּ֥וֹת הַחֶמְדָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshach֙ gּabeh֣ut ha'ada֔m veshshape֖l r֣um 'anashshi֑ym venishsegּa֧b yehva֛h lebadּ֖o bּayּ֥om hahֽu'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

וְשַׁח֙ גַּבְה֣וּת הָאָדָ֔ם וְשָׁפֵ֖ל ר֣וּם אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וְנִשְׂגַּ֧ב יְהוָ֛ה לְבַדּ֖וֹ בַּיּ֥וֹם הַהֽוּא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veha'eliyli֖ym kּali֥yl yachaloֽp׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the idols He shall utterly abolish.

וְהָאֱלִילִ֖ים כָּלִ֥יל יַחֲלֹֽף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): uba֨'u֙ bּime'ar֣ot tzuri֔ym ubimechilּ֖ot 'apa֑r mipּene֞y pּa֤chad yehvah֙ umehada֣r gּe'on֔o bּequm֖o la'aro֥tz ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He arises to shake terribly the earth.

וּבָ֨אוּ֙ בִּמְעָר֣וֹת צֻרִ֔ים וּבִמְחִלּ֖וֹת עָפָ֑ר מִפְּנֵ֞י פַּ֤חַד יְהוָה֙ וּמֵהֲדַ֣ר גְּאוֹנ֔וֹ בְּקוּמ֖וֹ לַעֲרֹ֥ץ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּayּ֤om hahu'֙ yashsheli֣yke ha'ada֔m 'e֚t 'eliyle֣y kasepּ֔o ve'e֖t 'eliyle֣y zehab֑o 'ashshe֤r 'aֽshsu-lo֙ lehiֽshshetּachavo֔t lachepּo֥r pּer֖ot vela'atalּepiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

בַּיּ֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ יַשְׁלִ֣יךְ הָאָדָ֔ם אֵ֚ת אֱלִילֵ֣י כַסְפּ֔וֹ וְאֵ֖ת אֱלִילֵ֣י זְהָב֑וֹ אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָֽשׂוּ־לוֹ֙ לְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֔ת לַחְפֹּ֥ר פֵּר֖וֹת וְלָעֲטַלֵּפִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): labo'֙ bּeniqer֣ot hatzּuri֔ym ubise'ipe֖y hasּela'i֑ym mipּene֞y pּa֤chad yehvah֙ umehada֣r gּe'on֔o bּequm֖o la'aro֥tz ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of His majesty, when He arises to shake terribly the earth.

לָבוֹא֙ בְּנִקְר֣וֹת הַצֻּרִ֔ים וּבִסְעִפֵ֖י הַסְּלָעִ֑ים מִפְּנֵ֞י פַּ֤חַד יְהוָה֙ וּמֵהֲדַ֣ר גְּאוֹנ֔וֹ בְּקוּמ֖וֹ לַעֲרֹ֥ץ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): chidel֤u lakem֙ min-ha֣'ada֔m 'ashshe֥r neshshama֖h bּe'apּ֑o kּiֽy-bamּe֥h necheshsha֖b hֽu'׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Cease you from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of?

חִדְל֤וּ לָכֶם֙ מִן־הָ֣אָדָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר נְשָׁמָ֖ה בְּאַפּ֑וֹ כִּֽי־בַמֶּ֥ה נֶחְשָׁ֖ב הֽוּא׃פ
