Chapter 29

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֚oy 'ariy'e֣l 'ariy'e֔l qireya֖t chana֣h davi֑d sep֥u shshana֛h 'al-shshana֖h chagּi֥ym yineqoֽpu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add you year to year; let them kill sacrifices.

ה֚וֹי אֲרִיאֵ֣ל אֲרִיאֵ֔ל קִרְיַ֖ת חָנָ֣ה דָוִ֑ד סְפ֥וּ שָׁנָ֛ה עַל־שָׁנָ֖ה חַגִּ֥ים יִנְקֹֽפוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vahatziyq֖otiy laֽ'ariy'e֑l vehayeta֤h taֽ'aniyּah֙ vaֽ'aniyּa֔h veha֥yetah lּi֖y kּa'ariy'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness and sorrow: and it shall be to Me as Ariel.

וַהֲצִיק֖וֹתִי לַֽאֲרִיאֵ֑ל וְהָיְתָ֤ה תַֽאֲנִיָּה֙ וַֽאֲנִיָּ֔ה וְהָ֥יְתָה לִּ֖י כַּאֲרִיאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vechani֥ytiy kadּ֖ur 'ala֑yike vetzaretּi֤y 'ala֨yike֙ mutzּa֔b vahaqֽiymoti֥y 'ala֖yike metzuroֽt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I will camp against you round about, and will lay siege against you with a mount, and I will raise forts against you.

וְחָנִ֥יתִי כַדּ֖וּר עָלָ֑יִךְ וְצַרְתִּ֤י עָלַ֨יִךְ֙ מֻצָּ֔ב וַהֲקִֽימֹתִ֥י עָלַ֖יִךְ מְצֻרֹֽת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshapaletּe֙ me'e֣retz tּedabּe֔riy umeֽ'apa֖r tּishshּa֣ch 'imerate֑ke veֽ֠hayah kּe'֤ob me'e֨retz֙ qole֔ke ume'apa֖r 'imerate֥ke tּetzapetzeֽp׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And you shall be brought down, and shall speak out of the ground, and your speech shall be low out of the dust, and your voice shall be, as of one that has a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and your speech shall whisper out of the dust.

וְשָׁפַלְתְּ֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ תְּדַבֵּ֔רִי וּמֵֽעָפָ֖ר תִּשַּׁ֣ח אִמְרָתֵ֑ךְ וְֽ֠הָיָה כְּא֤וֹב מֵאֶ֨רֶץ֙ קוֹלֵ֔ךְ וּמֵעָפָ֖ר אִמְרָתֵ֥ךְ תְּצַפְצֵֽף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֛h kּe'aba֥q dּa֖q ham֣on zara֑yike ukemo֤tz 'ober֙ ham֣on 'aֽriytzi֔ym vehaya֖h lepe֥ta pּite'oֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover the multitude of your strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passes away: yes, it shall be at an instant suddenly.

וְהָיָ֛ה כְּאָבָ֥ק דַּ֖ק הֲמ֣וֹן זָרָ֑יִךְ וּכְמֹ֤ץ עֹבֵר֙ הֲמ֣וֹן עָֽרִיצִ֔ים וְהָיָ֖ה לְפֶ֥תַע פִּתְאֹֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): me'i֨m yehva֤h tzeba'ot֙ tּipּaqe֔d bּera֥'am ubera֖'ashsh veq֣ol gּad֑ol supah֙ use'ara֔h vela֖hab 'e֥shsh 'okelaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You shall be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.

מֵעִ֨ם יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ תִּפָּקֵ֔ד בְּרַ֥עַם וּבְרַ֖עַשׁ וְק֣וֹל גָּד֑וֹל סוּפָה֙ וּסְעָרָ֔ה וְלַ֖הַב אֵ֥שׁ אוֹכֵלָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֗h kּaֽchalom֙ chaz֣on la֔yelah hamon֙ kּal-hagּoyi֔m hatzּobe'i֖ym 'al-'ariy'e֑l vekal-tzobe֨yha֙ umetzo֣data֔hּ vehamּetziyqi֖ym laֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision.

וְהָיָ֗ה כַּֽחֲלוֹם֙ חֲז֣וֹן לַ֔יְלָה הֲמוֹן֙ כָּל־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם הַצֹּבְאִ֖ים עַל־אֲרִיאֵ֑ל וְכָל־צֹבֶ֨יהָ֙ וּמְצֹ֣דָתָ֔הּ וְהַמְּצִיקִ֖ים לָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֡h kּa'ashsher֩ yachalo֨m hara'e֜b vehinּe֣h 'oke֗l veheqiytz֮ vereyqa֣h napeshsho֒ veka'ashshe֨r yachalo֤m hatzּame'֙ vehinּe֣h shshote֔h veheqiytz֙ vehinּe֣h 'aye֔p venapeshsh֖o shshoqeqa֑h kּe֣n yiֽheye֗h hamon֙ kּal-hagּoyi֔m hatzּobe'i֖ym 'al-ha֥r tziyּֽon׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)It shall even be as when an hungry man dreams, and, behold, he eats; but he awakes, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreams, and, behold, he drinks; but he awakes, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul has appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.

וְהָיָ֡ה כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ יַחֲלֹ֨ם הָרָעֵ֜ב וְהִנֵּ֣ה אוֹכֵ֗ל וְהֵקִיץ֮ וְרֵיקָ֣ה נַפְשׁוֹ֒ וְכַאֲשֶׁ֨ר יַחֲלֹ֤ם הַצָּמֵא֙ וְהִנֵּ֣ה שֹׁתֶ֔ה וְהֵקִיץ֙ וְהִנֵּ֣ה עָיֵ֔ף וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ שׁוֹקֵקָ֑ה כֵּ֣ן יִֽהְיֶ֗ה הֲמוֹן֙ כָּל־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם הַצֹּבְאִ֖ים עַל־הַ֥ר צִיּֽוֹן׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): hitemahemeh֣u utema֔hu hishshetּֽa'ashshe'֖u vashsho֑'u shshaֽker֣u velo'-ya֔yin na'֖u velo֥ shshekaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry you out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

הִתְמַהְמְה֣וּ וּתְמָ֔הוּ הִשְׁתַּֽעַשְׁע֖וּ וָשֹׁ֑עוּ שָֽׁכְר֣וּ וְלֹא־יַ֔יִן נָע֖וּ וְלֹ֥א שֵׁכָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-nasa֨ke 'aleyke֤m yehvah֙ r֣ucha tּaredּema֔h vaye'atzּe֖m 'et-'eֽyneyke֑m 'et-hanּebiy'i֛ym ve'et-ra'shsheyke֥m hachozi֖ym kּisּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For the LORD has poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers has He covered.

כִּֽי־נָסַ֨ךְ עֲלֵיכֶ֤ם יְהוָה֙ ר֣וּחַ תַּרְדֵּמָ֔ה וַיְעַצֵּ֖ם אֶת־עֵֽינֵיכֶ֑ם אֶת־הַנְּבִיאִ֛ים וְאֶת־רָאשֵׁיכֶ֥ם הַחֹזִ֖ים כִּסָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּehi֨y lake֜m chaz֣ut hakּo֗l kּediberey֮ hasּe֣per heֽchatum֒ 'ashsheֽr-yitּen֣u 'ot֗o 'el-yode֥'a hspr se֛per le'mo֖r qera֣ na'-ze֑h ve'amar֙ lo֣ 'uka֔l kּi֥y chat֖um hֽu'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the vision of all is become to you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, "Read this, I pray you:" and he says, "I cannot; for it is sealed:"

וַתְּהִ֨י לָכֶ֜ם חָז֣וּת הַכֹּ֗ל כְּדִבְרֵי֮ הַסֵּ֣פֶר הֶֽחָתוּם֒ אֲשֶֽׁר־יִתְּנ֣וּ אֹת֗וֹ אֶל־יוֹדֵ֥עַ הספר סֵ֛פֶר לֵאמֹ֖ר קְרָ֣א נָא־זֶ֑ה וְאָמַר֙ לֹ֣א אוּכַ֔ל כִּ֥י חָת֖וּם הֽוּא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venitּa֣n hasּe֗per 'al֩ 'ashshe֨r loֽ'-yada֥ se֛per le'mo֖r qera֣ na'-ze֑h ve'ama֕r lo֥ yada֖'etּiy seֽper׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, "Read this, I pray you:" and he says, "I am not learned."

וְנִתַּ֣ן הַסֵּ֗פֶר עַל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹֽא־יָדַ֥ע סֵ֛פֶר לֵאמֹ֖ר קְרָ֣א נָא־זֶ֑ה וְאָמַ֕ר לֹ֥א יָדַ֖עְתִּי סֵֽפֶר׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣'mer 'adona֗y ya֚'an kּi֤y nigּashsh֙ ha'a֣m hazּe֔h bּepi֤yv ubishsepatayv֙ kּibּed֔uniy velibּ֖o richa֣q mimּe֑nּiy vatּehi֤y yire'atam֙ 'oti֔y mitzeva֥t 'anashshi֖ym melumּadaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore the Lord said, "Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the precept of men:"

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲדֹנָ֗י יַ֚עַן כִּ֤י נִגַּשׁ֙ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה בְּפִ֤יו וּבִשְׂפָתָיו֙ כִּבְּד֔וּנִי וְלִבּ֖וֹ רִחַ֣ק מִמֶּ֑נִּי וַתְּהִ֤י יִרְאָתָם֙ אֹתִ֔י מִצְוַ֥ת אֲנָשִׁ֖ים מְלֻמָּדָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֗n hineni֥y yosi֛p lehapeli֥y 'et-haֽ'am-hazּe֖h hapele֣ vape֑le ve'aֽbedah֙ chakema֣t chakama֔yv ubiyna֥t nebona֖yv tּisetּatּaֽr׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid."

לָכֵ֗ן הִנְנִ֥י יוֹסִ֛ף לְהַפְלִ֥יא אֶת־הָֽעָם־הַזֶּ֖ה הַפְלֵ֣א וָפֶ֑לֶא וְאָֽבְדָה֙ חָכְמַ֣ת חֲכָמָ֔יו וּבִינַ֥ת נְבֹנָ֖יו תִּסְתַּתָּֽר׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֛oy hamּa'amiyqi֥ym meֽyhva֖h lasetּi֣r 'etza֑h vehaya֤h bemacheshshake֙ maֽ'ashseyhe֔m vayּo֣'mer֔u mi֥y ro'e֖nu umi֥y yode'eֽnu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, "Who sees us? and who knows us?"

ה֛וֹי הַמַּעֲמִיקִ֥ים מֵֽיהוָ֖ה לַסְתִּ֣ר עֵצָ֑ה וְהָיָ֤ה בְמַחְשָׁךְ֙ מַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מִ֥י רֹאֵ֖נוּ וּמִ֥י יוֹדְעֵֽנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ha֨pekּeke֔m 'im-kּecho֥mer hayּotze֖r yeֽchashshe֑b kּiֽy-yo'ma֨r ma'ashse֤h le'oshse֨hu֙ lo֣ 'ashsa֔niy veye֛tzer 'ama֥r leyotzer֖o lo֥ hebiֽyn׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Surely your turning of things upscale down shall be esteemed as the potter's clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, "He made me not?" or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, "He had no understanding?"

הַ֨פְכְּכֶ֔ם אִם־כְּחֹ֥מֶר הַיֹּצֵ֖ר יֵֽחָשֵׁ֑ב כִּֽי־יֹאמַ֨ר מַעֲשֶׂ֤ה לְעֹשֵׂ֨הוּ֙ לֹ֣א עָשָׂ֔נִי וְיֵ֛צֶר אָמַ֥ר לְיוֹצְר֖וֹ לֹ֥א הֵבִֽין׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): halo'-'od֙ me'a֣t mize'a֔r veshsha֥b leban֖on lakּareme֑l vehakּareme֖l layּa֥'ar yechashsheֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?

הֲלוֹא־עוֹד֙ מְעַ֣ט מִזְעָ֔ר וְשָׁ֥ב לְבָנ֖וֹן לַכַּרְמֶ֑ל וְהַכַּרְמֶ֖ל לַיַּ֥עַר יֵחָשֵֽׁב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshshame'֧u bayּom-hah֛u hachereshshi֖ym dּiberey-se֑per ume'o֣pel umecho֔shsheke 'eyne֥y 'iveri֖ym tּire'eֽynah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.

וְשָׁמְע֧וּ בַיּוֹם־הַה֛וּא הַחֵרְשִׁ֖ים דִּבְרֵי־סֵ֑פֶר וּמֵאֹ֣פֶל וּמֵחֹ֔שֶׁךְ עֵינֵ֥י עִוְרִ֖ים תִּרְאֶֽינָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyasep֧u 'anavi֛ym bּaֽyhva֖h shsimecha֑h ve'ebeyone֣y 'ada֔m bּiqed֥oshsh yishsera'e֖l yagiֽylu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

וְיָסְפ֧וּ עֲנָוִ֛ים בַּֽיהוָ֖ה שִׂמְחָ֑ה וְאֶבְיוֹנֵ֣י אָדָ֔ם בִּקְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יָגִֽילוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-'ape֥s 'ari֖ytz veka֣lah le֑tz venikeret֖u kּal-shsho֥qedey 'aֽven׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

כִּֽי־אָפֵ֥ס עָרִ֖יץ וְכָ֣לָה לֵ֑ץ וְנִכְרְת֖וּ כָּל־שֹׁ֥קְדֵי אָֽוֶן׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): machatiy'e֤y 'adam֙ bּedaba֔r velamּoki֥ycha bּashshּa֖'ar yeqoshsh֑un vayּatּ֥u batּo֖hu tzadּiֽyq׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.

מַחֲטִיאֵ֤י אָדָם֙ בְּדָבָ֔ר וְלַמּוֹכִ֥יחַ בַּשַּׁ֖עַר יְקֹשׁ֑וּן וַיַּטּ֥וּ בַתֹּ֖הוּ צַדִּֽיק׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֗n kּoֽh-'ama֤r yehvah֙ 'el-bּe֣yt yaֽ'aqo֔b 'ashshe֥r pּada֖h 'et-'aberaha֑m loֽ'-'atּa֤h yeboshsh֙ yaֽ'aqo֔b velo֥ 'atּa֖h pּana֥yv yechevaֽru׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore thus says the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, "Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale."

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב אֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּדָ֖ה אֶת־אַבְרָהָ֑ם לֹֽא־עַתָּ֤ה יֵבוֹשׁ֙ יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וְלֹ֥א עַתָּ֖ה פָּנָ֥יו יֶחֱוָֽרוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y bi֠re'oto yelada֞yv ma'ashse֥h yada֛y bּeqirebּ֖o yaqedּi֣yshshֽu shshemi֑y vehiqedּi֨yshshu֙ 'et-qed֣oshsh yaֽ'aqo֔b ve'et-'elohe֥y yishsera'e֖l ya'ariֽytzu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But when he sees his children, the work of My hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify My name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.

כִּ֣י בִ֠רְאֹתוֹ יְלָדָ֞יו מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יָדַ֛י בְּקִרְבּ֖וֹ יַקְדִּ֣ישֽׁוּ שְׁמִ֑י וְהִקְדִּ֨ישׁוּ֙ אֶת־קְד֣וֹשׁ יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וְאֶת־אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יַעֲרִֽיצוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyade'֥u toֽ'ey-r֖ucha bּiyna֑h verogeni֖ym yilemedu-leֽqach׃

Edified Edition (EDE)They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.

וְיָדְע֥וּ תֹֽעֵי־ר֖וּחַ בִּינָ֑ה וְרוֹגְנִ֖ים יִלְמְדוּ־לֶֽקַח׃
