Chapter 64

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiqedo֧cha 'e֣shsh hamasi֗ym ma֚yim tּibe'eh-'e֔shsh lehodi֥y'a shshimeka֖ letzare֑yka mipּane֖yka gּoyi֥m yiregּaֽzu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Oh that You would rend the heavens, that You would come down, that the mountains might flow down at Your presence,

כִּקְדֹ֧חַ אֵ֣שׁ הֲמָסִ֗ים מַ֚יִם תִּבְעֶה־אֵ֔שׁ לְהוֹדִ֥יעַ שִׁמְךָ֖ לְצָרֶ֑יךָ מִפָּנֶ֖יךָ גּוֹיִ֥ם יִרְגָּֽזוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּa'ashsoteka֥ nora'֖ot lo֣ neqaue֑h yara֕detּa mipּane֖yka hari֥ym nazoֽlּu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)As when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence!

בַּעֲשׂוֹתְךָ֥ נוֹרָא֖וֹת לֹ֣א נְקַוֶּ֑ה יָרַ֕דְתָּ מִפָּנֶ֖יךָ הָרִ֥ים נָזֹֽלּוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ume'ola֥m lo'-shshame'֖u lo֣ he'ezi֑ynu 'a֣yin loֽ'-ra'a֗tah 'elohiym֙ zula֣teka֔ ya'ashse֖h limechakּeh-lֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When You did terrible things which we looked not for, You came down, the mountains flowed down at Your presence.

וּמֵעוֹלָ֥ם לֹא־שָׁמְע֖וּ לֹ֣א הֶאֱזִ֑ינוּ עַ֣יִן לֹֽא־רָאָ֗תָה אֱלֹהִים֙ זוּלָ֣תְךָ֔ יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה לִמְחַכֵּה־לֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): pּaga֤'etּa 'et-shsashs֙ ve'o֣shseh tze֔deq bּiderake֖yka yizekּer֑uka hen-'atּa֤h qatza֨petּa֙ vaֽnּecheta֔ bּahe֥m 'ola֖m veniuashsheֽ'a׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen, O God, beside You, what He has prepared for him that waits for Him.

פָּגַ֤עְתָּ אֶת־שָׂשׂ֙ וְעֹ֣שֵׂה צֶ֔דֶק בִּדְרָכֶ֖יךָ יִזְכְּר֑וּךָ הֵן־אַתָּ֤ה קָצַ֨פְתָּ֙ וַֽנֶּחֱטָ֔א בָּהֶ֥ם עוֹלָ֖ם וְנִוָּשֵֽׁעַ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vanּehi֤y katּame'֙ kּulּa֔nu ukebe֥ged 'idּi֖ym kּal-tzideqote֑ynu vanּa֤bel kּeֽ'aleh֙ kּulּa֔nu va'avone֖nu kּar֥ucha yishsּa'uֽnu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You meetest him that rejoices and works righteousness, those that remember You in Your ways: behold, You are angry; for we have sinned: in those is continuance, and we shall be saved.

וַנְּהִ֤י כַטָּמֵא֙ כֻּלָּ֔נוּ וּכְבֶ֥גֶד עִדִּ֖ים כָּל־צִדְקֹתֵ֑ינוּ וַנָּ֤בֶל כֶּֽעָלֶה֙ כֻּלָּ֔נוּ וַעֲוֺנֵ֖נוּ כָּר֥וּחַ יִשָּׂאֻֽנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'eyn-qore֣ beshshimeka֔ mite'ore֖r lehachazi֣yq bּa֑ke kּiֽy-hisetּa֤retּa pane֨yka֙ mimּe֔nּu vatּemuge֖nu bּeyad-'avoneֽnu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

וְאֵין־קוֹרֵ֣א בְשִׁמְךָ֔ מִתְעוֹרֵ֖ר לְהַחֲזִ֣יק בָּ֑ךְ כִּֽי־הִסְתַּ֤רְתָּ פָנֶ֨יךָ֙ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ וַתְּמוּגֵ֖נוּ בְּיַד־עֲוֺנֵֽנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֥h yehva֖h 'abi֣ynu 'a֑tּah 'ana֤chenu hacho֨mer֙ ve'atּa֣h yotzere֔nu uma'ashse֥h yadeka֖ kּulּaֽnu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And there is none that calls upon Your name, that stirs up himself to take hold of You: for You hast hid Your face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

וְעַתָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אָבִ֣ינוּ אָ֑תָּה אֲנַ֤חְנוּ הַחֹ֨מֶר֙ וְאַתָּ֣ה יֹצְרֵ֔נוּ וּמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יָדְךָ֖ כֻּלָּֽנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-tּiqetzo֤p yehvah֙ 'ad-me'o֔d ve'al-la'a֖d tּizekּo֣r 'avo֑n he֥n habּet-na֖ 'amּeka֥ kulּaֽnu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and we all are the work of Your hand.

אַל־תִּקְצֹ֤ף יְהוָה֙ עַד־מְאֹ֔ד וְאַל־לָעַ֖ד תִּזְכֹּ֣ר עָוֺ֑ן הֵ֥ן הַבֶּט־נָ֖א עַמְּךָ֥ כֻלָּֽנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): are֥y qadeshsheka֖ hay֣u midebּa֑r tziyּon֙ midebּa֣r haya֔tah yerushshala֖im shshemamaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Be not angry very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity forever: behold, see, we beseech You, we are all Your people.

עָרֵ֥י קָדְשְׁךָ֖ הָי֣וּ מִדְבָּ֑ר צִיּוֹן֙ מִדְבָּ֣ר הָיָ֔תָה יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם שְׁמָמָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּe֧yt qadeshshe֣nu vetipe'aretּe֗nu 'ashshe֤r hiֽlel֨uka֙ 'abote֔ynu haya֖h lishsere֣pat 'e֑shsh vekal-machamadּe֖ynu haya֥h lecharebּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Your holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

בֵּ֧ית קָדְשֵׁ֣נוּ וְתִפְאַרְתֵּ֗נוּ אֲשֶׁ֤ר הִֽלְל֨וּךָ֙ אֲבֹתֵ֔ינוּ הָיָ֖ה לִשְׂרֵ֣פַת אֵ֑שׁ וְכָל־מַחֲמַדֵּ֖ינוּ הָיָ֥ה לְחָרְבָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ha'al-'e֥lּeh tite'apּa֖q yehva֑h tּecheshshe֥h ute'anּe֖nu 'ad-me'oֽd׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised You, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.

הַעַל־אֵ֥לֶּה תִתְאַפַּ֖ק יְהוָ֑ה תֶּחֱשֶׁ֥ה וּתְעַנֵּ֖נוּ עַד־מְאֹֽד׃ס
