Chapter 8
1
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'ela֔y qach-leka֖ gּilּay֣on gּad֑ol uketo֤b 'alayv֙ bּeche֣ret 'en֔oshsh lemahe֥r shshala֖l cha֥shsh bּaֽz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover the LORD said to me, "Take you a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י קַח־לְךָ֖ גִּלָּי֣וֹן גָּד֑וֹל וּכְתֹ֤ב עָלָיו֙ בְּחֶ֣רֶט אֱנ֔וֹשׁ לְמַהֵ֥ר שָׁלָ֖ל חָ֥שׁ בַּֽז׃

2
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a'i֣ydah lּi֔y 'edi֖ym ne'emani֑ym 'e֚t 'uriyּa֣h hakּohe֔n ve'et-zekareya֖hu bּe֥n yeberekeyaֽhu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And I took to me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

וְאָעִ֣ידָה לִּ֔י עֵדִ֖ים נֶאֱמָנִ֑ים אֵ֚ת אוּרִיָּ֣ה הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֶת־זְכַרְיָ֖הוּ בֶּ֥ן יְבֶרֶכְיָֽהוּ׃

3
Phonetic (Hebrew): va'eqerab֙ 'el-hanּebiy'a֔h vatּa֖har vatּe֣led bּe֑n vayּo֤'mer yehvah֙ 'ela֔y qera֣ shshem֔o mahe֥r shshala֖l cha֥shsh bּaֽz׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And I went to the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, "Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz."

וָאֶקְרַב֙ אֶל־הַנְּבִיאָ֔ה וַתַּ֖הַר וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֑ן וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י קְרָ֣א שְׁמ֔וֹ מַהֵ֥ר שָׁלָ֖ל חָ֥שׁ בַּֽז׃

4
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֗y bּete֨rem֙ yeda֣ hanּa֔'ar qero֖ 'abi֣y ve'imּi֑y yishsּa֣ ׀ 'et-che֣yl dּamּe֗shseq ve'et֙ shshela֣l shshomer֔on lipene֖y me֥leke 'ashshּֽur׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, "My father," and "My mother," the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

כִּ֗י בְּטֶ֨רֶם֙ יֵדַ֣ע הַנַּ֔עַר קְרֹ֖א אָבִ֣י וְאִמִּ֑י יִשָּׂ֣א ׀ אֶת־חֵ֣יל דַּמֶּ֗שֶׂק וְאֵת֙ שְׁלַ֣ל שֹׁמְר֔וֹן לִפְנֵ֖י מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר׃ס

5
Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֣sep yehva֔h dּabּe֥r 'ela֛y '֖od le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)The LORD spoke also to me again, saying,

וַיֹּ֣סֶף יְהוָ֔ה דַּבֵּ֥ר אֵלַ֛י ע֖וֹד לֵאמֹֽר׃

6
Phonetic (Hebrew): ya֗'an kּi֤y ma'as֙ ha'a֣m hazּe֔h 'e֚t me֣y hashshּilo֔cha haholeki֖ym le'a֑t umeshs֥oshs 'et-retzi֖yn uben-remaleyaֽhu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Forasmuch as this people refuses the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;"

יַ֗עַן כִּ֤י מָאַס֙ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה אֵ֚ת מֵ֣י הַשִּׁלֹ֔חַ הַהֹלְכִ֖ים לְאַ֑ט וּמְשׂ֥וֹשׂ אֶת־רְצִ֖ין וּבֶן־רְמַלְיָֽהוּ׃

7
Phonetic (Hebrew): velake֡n hinּe֣h 'adonay֩ ma'ale֨h 'aleyhe֜m 'et-me֣y hanּaha֗r ha'atzumiym֙ veha֣rabּi֔ym 'et-me֥leke 'ashshּ֖ur ve'et-kּal-kּebod֑o ve'alah֙ 'al-kּal-'apiyqa֔yv vehala֖ke 'al-kּal-gּedotaֽyv׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:"

וְלָכֵ֡ן הִנֵּ֣ה אֲדֹנָי֩ מַעֲלֶ֨ה עֲלֵיהֶ֜ם אֶת־מֵ֣י הַנָּהָ֗ר הָעֲצוּמִים֙ וְהָ֣רַבִּ֔ים אֶת־מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּׁ֖וּר וְאֶת־כָּל־כְּבוֹד֑וֹ וְעָלָה֙ עַל־כָּל־אֲפִיקָ֔יו וְהָלַ֖ךְ עַל־כָּל־גְּדוֹתָֽיו׃

8
Phonetic (Hebrew): vechala֤p bּiֽyhudah֙ shshata֣p ve'aba֔r 'ad-tzaua֖'r yagּi֑y'a vehayah֙ mutּ֣ot kּenapa֔yv melo֥ roֽchab-'aretzeka֖ 'imּa֥nu 'eֽl׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)"And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel."

וְחָלַ֤ף בִּֽיהוּדָה֙ שָׁטַ֣ף וְעָבַ֔ר עַד־צַוָּ֖אר יַגִּ֑יעַ וְהָיָה֙ מֻטּ֣וֹת כְּנָפָ֔יו מְלֹ֥א רֹֽחַב־אַרְצְךָ֖ עִמָּ֥נוּ אֵֽל׃ס

9
Phonetic (Hebrew): ro֤'u 'amּiym֙ vacho֔tּu vehaֽ'azi֔ynu kּo֖l merechaqּey-'a֑retz hite'azּer֣u vacho֔tּu hiֽte'azּer֖u vachoֽtּu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Associate yourselves, O you people, and you shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all you of far countries: gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces.

רֹ֤עוּ עַמִּים֙ וָחֹ֔תּוּ וְהַֽאֲזִ֔ינוּ כֹּ֖ל מֶרְחַקֵּי־אָ֑רֶץ הִתְאַזְּר֣וּ וָחֹ֔תּוּ הִֽתְאַזְּר֖וּ וָחֹֽתּוּ׃

10
Phonetic (Hebrew): u֥tzu 'etza֖h vetupa֑r dּabּer֤u dabar֙ velo֣ yaq֔um kּi֥y 'imּa֖nu 'eֽl׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

עֻ֥צוּ עֵצָ֖ה וְתֻפָ֑ר דַּבְּר֤וּ דָבָר֙ וְלֹ֣א יָק֔וּם כִּ֥י עִמָּ֖נוּ אֵֽל׃ס

11
Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiy֩ ko֨h 'ama֧r yehva֛h 'ela֖y kּechezeqa֣t hayּa֑d veyisּere֕niy milּe֛ket bּede֥reke haֽ'am-hazּe֖h le'moֽr׃
Edified Edition (EDE)For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

כִּי֩ כֹ֨ה אָמַ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֵלַ֖י כְּחֶזְקַ֣ת הַיָּ֑ד וְיִסְּרֵ֕נִי מִלֶּ֛כֶת בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ הָֽעָם־הַזֶּ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

12
Phonetic (Hebrew): lo'-to'mer֣un qe֔shsher leko֧l 'ashsher-yo'ma֛r ha'a֥m hazּe֖h qa֑shsher ve'et-mora'֥o loֽ'-tiֽyre'֖u velo֥ ta'ariֽytzu׃
Edified Edition (EDE)"Say you not, 'A confederacy,' to all them to whom this people shall say, 'A confederacy;' neither fear you their fear, nor be afraid."

לֹא־תֹאמְר֣וּן קֶ֔שֶׁר לְכֹ֧ל אֲשֶׁר־יֹאמַ֛ר הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה קָ֑שֶׁר וְאֶת־מוֹרָא֥וֹ לֹֽא־תִֽירְא֖וּ וְלֹ֥א תַעֲרִֽיצוּ׃

13
Phonetic (Hebrew): et-yehva֥h tzeba'֖ot 'ot֣o taqedּi֑yshshu veh֥u mora'ake֖m veh֥u mֽa'ariֽtzekeֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Sanctify the LORD of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.

אֶת־יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת אֹת֣וֹ תַקְדִּ֑ישׁוּ וְה֥וּא מוֹרַאֲכֶ֖ם וְה֥וּא מַֽעֲרִֽצְכֶֽם׃

14
Phonetic (Hebrew): vehaya֖h lemiqedּa֑shsh ule'e֣ben ne֠gep uletz֨ur mikeshsh֜ol lishshene֨y batּe֤y yishsera'el֙ lepa֣ch ulemoqe֔shsh leyoshshe֖b yerushshalaiֽm׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And He shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

וְהָיָ֖ה לְמִקְדָּ֑שׁ וּלְאֶ֣בֶן נֶ֠גֶף וּלְצ֨וּר מִכְשׁ֜וֹל לִשְׁנֵ֨י בָתֵּ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְפַ֣ח וּלְמוֹקֵ֔שׁ לְיוֹשֵׁ֖ב יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

15
Phonetic (Hebrew): veka֥shshelu ba֖m rabּi֑ym venapel֣u venishshebּa֔ru venoqeshsh֖u venilekּaֽdu׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

וְכָ֥שְׁלוּ בָ֖ם רַבִּ֑ים וְנָפְל֣וּ וְנִשְׁבָּ֔רוּ וְנוֹקְשׁ֖וּ וְנִלְכָּֽדוּ׃ס

16
Phonetic (Hebrew): tz֖or tּe'uda֑h chat֥om tּora֖h bּelimּudaֽy׃
Edified Edition (EDE)Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

צ֖וֹר תְּעוּדָ֑ה חֲת֥וֹם תּוֹרָ֖ה בְּלִמֻּדָֽי׃

17
Phonetic (Hebrew): vechikּi֨ytiy֙ layhva֔h hamּasetּi֥yr pּana֖yv mibּe֣yt ya'aqo֑b veqiue֖ytiֽy-lֽo׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And I will wait upon the LORD, that hides His face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for Him.

וְחִכִּ֨יתִי֙ לַיהוָ֔ה הַמַּסְתִּ֥יר פָּנָ֖יו מִבֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְקִוֵּ֖יתִֽי־לֽוֹ׃

18
Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֣h 'anoki֗y vehayeladiym֙ 'ashshe֣r naֽtan-li֣y yehva֔h le'ot֥ot ulemopeti֖ym bּeyishsera'e֑l me'im֙ yehva֣h tzeba'֔ot hashshּoke֖n bּeha֥r tziyּֽon׃s
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwells in mount Zion.

הִנֵּ֣ה אָנֹכִ֗י וְהַיְלָדִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָֽתַן־לִ֣י יְהוָ֔ה לְאֹת֥וֹת וּלְמוֹפְתִ֖ים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מֵעִם֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת הַשֹּׁכֵ֖ן בְּהַ֥ר צִיּֽוֹן׃ס

19
Phonetic (Hebrew): vekiֽy-yo'mer֣u 'aleyke֗m dּireshsh֤u 'el-ha'obot֙ ve'el-hayּidּe'oni֔ym haֽmetzapetzepi֖ym vehamּahegּi֑ym halo'-'am֙ 'el-'eloha֣yv yidero֔shsh bּe'a֥d hachayּi֖ym 'el-hamּetiֽym׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they shall say to you, "Seek to them that have familiar spirits, and to wizards that peep, and that mutter:" should not a people seek to their God? for the living to the dead?

וְכִֽי־יֹאמְר֣וּ אֲלֵיכֶ֗ם דִּרְשׁ֤וּ אֶל־הָאֹבוֹת֙ וְאֶל־הַיִּדְּעֹנִ֔ים הַֽמְצַפְצְפִ֖ים וְהַמַּהְגִּ֑ים הֲלוֹא־עַם֙ אֶל־אֱלֹהָ֣יו יִדְרֹ֔שׁ בְּעַ֥ד הַחַיִּ֖ים אֶל־הַמֵּתִֽים׃

20
Phonetic (Hebrew): letora֖h velite'uda֑h 'im-lo֤ yoֽ'meru֙ kּadּaba֣r hazּe֔h 'ashshe֥r 'eֽyn-l֖o shshaֽchar׃
Edified Edition (EDE)To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

לְתוֹרָ֖ה וְלִתְעוּדָ֑ה אִם־לֹ֤א יֹֽאמְרוּ֙ כַּדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵֽין־ל֖וֹ שָֽׁחַר׃

21
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֥bar bּa֖hּ niqeshshe֣h vera'e֑b vehaya֨h kiֽy-yire'a֜b vehiteqatzּa֗p veqilּe֧l bּemalekּ֛o ube'loha֖yv upana֥h lemaֽ'elah׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

וְעָ֥בַר בָּ֖הּ נִקְשֶׁ֣ה וְרָעֵ֑ב וְהָיָ֨ה כִֽי־יִרְעַ֜ב וְהִתְקַצַּ֗ף וְקִלֵּ֧ל בְּמַלְכּ֛וֹ וּבֵאלֹהָ֖יו וּפָנָ֥ה לְמָֽעְלָה׃

22
Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'el-'e֖retz yabּi֑yt vehinּe֨h tzara֤h vachashshekah֙ me'֣up tzuqa֔h va'apela֖h menudּaֽch׃
Edified Edition (EDE)And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

וְאֶל־אֶ֖רֶץ יַבִּ֑יט וְהִנֵּ֨ה צָרָ֤ה וַחֲשֵׁכָה֙ מְע֣וּף צוּקָ֔ה וַאֲפֵלָ֖ה מְנֻדָּֽח׃

23

כִּ֣י לֹ֣א מוּעָף֮ לַאֲשֶׁ֣ר מוּצָ֣ק לָהּ֒ כָּעֵ֣ת הָרִאשׁ֗וֹן הֵקַ֞ל אַ֤רְצָה זְבֻלוּן֙ וְאַ֣רְצָה נַפְתָּלִ֔י וְהָאַחֲר֖וֹן הִכְבִּ֑יד דֶּ֤רֶךְ הַיָּם֙ עֵ֣בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן גְּלִ֖יל הַגּוֹיִֽם׃
