Chapter 2

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֥y debar-yehva֖h 'ela֥y le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): halo֡ke veqaֽra'ta֩ be'azene֨y yerushshalai֜m le'mo֗r kּo֚h 'ama֣r yehva֔h zaka֤retּiy lake֙ che֣sed ne'ura֔yike 'ahaba֖t kּelulota֑yike leketּe֤ke 'acharay֙ bּamּidebּa֔r bּe'e֖retz lo֥ zeru'aֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, 'Thus says the LORD; I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your espousals, when you wentest after Me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.'"

הָלֹ֡ךְ וְקָֽרָאתָ֩ בְאָזְנֵ֨י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה זָכַ֤רְתִּי לָךְ֙ חֶ֣סֶד נְעוּרַ֔יִךְ אַהֲבַ֖ת כְּלוּלֹתָ֑יִךְ לֶכְתֵּ֤ךְ אַחֲרַי֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר בְּאֶ֖רֶץ לֹ֥א זְרוּעָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): qo֤deshsh yishsera'el֙ layhva֔h re'shshi֖yt tּebu'ato֑h kּal-'okela֣yv ye'eshsha֔mu ra'a֛h tּabo֥ 'aleyhe֖m ne'um-yehvaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"Israel was holiness to the LORD, and the firstfruits of His increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them," says the LORD.

קֹ֤דֶשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לַיהוָ֔ה רֵאשִׁ֖ית תְּבוּאָתֹ֑ה כָּל־אֹכְלָ֣יו יֶאְשָׁ֔מוּ רָעָ֛ה תָּבֹ֥א אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): shshime'֥u debar-yehva֖h bּe֣yt ya'aqo֑b vekaֽl-mishshepּech֖ot bּe֥yt yishsera'eֽl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Hear you the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

שִׁמְע֥וּ דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה בֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְכָֽל־מִשְׁפְּח֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֣h ׀ 'ama֣r yehva֗h mah-mּatze'֨u 'aboteyke֥m bּiy֙ 'a֔vel kּi֥y rachaq֖u me'ala֑y vayּeֽlek֛u 'achare֥y hahe֖bel vayּehebּaֽlu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Thus says the LORD, "What iniquity have your fathers found in Me, that they are gone far from Me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?"

כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה מַה־מָּצְא֨וּ אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֥ם בִּי֙ עָ֔וֶל כִּ֥י רָחֲק֖וּ מֵעָלָ֑י וַיֵּֽלְכ֛וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י הַהֶ֖בֶל וַיֶּהְבָּֽלוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velo֣ 'amer֔u 'ayּe֣h yehva֔h hamּa'ale֥h 'ota֖nu me'e֣retz mitzera֑yim hamּoli֨yke 'ota֜nu bּamּidebּa֗r bּe'e֨retz 'araba֤h veshshuchah֙ bּe'e֨retz֙ tziyּa֣h vetzalema֔vet bּe'e֗retz loֽ'-'a֤bar bּahּ֙ 'i֔yshsh veloֽ'-yashsha֥b 'ada֖m shshaֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Neither said they, 'Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?'"

וְלֹ֣א אָמְר֔וּ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה הַמַּעֲלֶ֥ה אֹתָ֖נוּ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם הַמּוֹלִ֨יךְ אֹתָ֜נוּ בַּמִּדְבָּ֗ר בְּאֶ֨רֶץ עֲרָבָ֤ה וְשׁוּחָה֙ בְּאֶ֨רֶץ֙ צִיָּ֣ה וְצַלְמָ֔וֶת בְּאֶ֗רֶץ לֹֽא־עָ֤בַר בָּהּ֙ אִ֔ישׁ וְלֹֽא־יָשַׁ֥ב אָדָ֖ם שָֽׁם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'abi֤y 'etekem֙ 'el-'e֣retz hakּareme֔l le'eko֥l pּireya֖hּ vetuba֑hּ vatּabo֨'u֙ vatּetamּe'֣u 'et-'aretzi֔y venachalati֥y shsametּe֖m leto'ebaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when you entered, you defiled My land, and made My heritage an abomination."

וָאָבִ֤יא אֶתְכֶם֙ אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ הַכַּרְמֶ֔ל לֶאֱכֹ֥ל פִּרְיָ֖הּ וְטוּבָ֑הּ וַתָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ וַתְּטַמְּא֣וּ אֶת־אַרְצִ֔י וְנַחֲלָתִ֥י שַׂמְתֶּ֖ם לְתוֹעֵבָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hakּohani֗ym lo֤ 'aֽmeru֙ 'ayּe֣h yehva֔h vetopeshse֤y hatּorah֙ lo֣ yeda'֔uniy veharo'i֖ym pּa֣shshe'u bi֑y vehanּebiy'iym֙ nibּe'֣u babּa֔'al ve'achare֥y loֽ'-yo'i֖lu halaֽku׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"The priests said not, 'Where is the LORD?' and they that handle the law knew Me not: the pastors also transgressed against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit."

הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים לֹ֤א אָֽמְרוּ֙ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה וְתֹפְשֵׂ֤י הַתּוֹרָה֙ לֹ֣א יְדָע֔וּנִי וְהָרֹעִ֖ים פָּ֣שְׁעוּ בִ֑י וְהַנְּבִיאִים֙ נִבְּא֣וּ בַבַּ֔עַל וְאַחֲרֵ֥י לֹֽא־יוֹעִ֖לוּ הָלָֽכוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֗n 'o֛d 'ari֥yb 'itּeke֖m ne'um-yehva֑h ve'et-bּene֥y beneyke֖m 'ariֽyb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Wherefore I will yet plead with you," says the LORD, "and with your children's children will I plead."

לָכֵ֗ן עֹ֛ד אָרִ֥יב אִתְּכֶ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהוָ֑ה וְאֶת־בְּנֵ֥י בְנֵיכֶ֖ם אָרִֽיב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y 'iber֞u 'iyּe֤y kitּiyּiym֙ ure'֔u veqeda֛r shshilech֥u vehiֽtebּonen֖u me'o֑d ure'֕u he֥n hayeta֖h kּazoֽ't׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing."

כִּ֣י עִבְר֞וּ אִיֵּ֤י כִתִּיִּים֙ וּרְא֔וּ וְקֵדָ֛ר שִׁלְח֥וּ וְהִֽתְבּוֹנְנ֖וּ מְאֹ֑ד וּרְא֕וּ הֵ֥ן הָיְתָ֖ה כָּזֹֽאת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): haheymi֥yr gּoy֙ 'elohi֔ym vehe֖mּah lo֣ 'elohi֑ym ve'amּi֛y hemi֥yr kּebod֖o bּel֥o yo'iֽyl׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Has a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but My people have changed their glory for that which does not profit."

הַהֵימִ֥יר גּוֹי֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהֵ֖מָּה לֹ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְעַמִּ֛י הֵמִ֥יר כְּבוֹד֖וֹ בְּל֥וֹא יוֹעִֽיל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shsho֥mּu shshama֖yim 'al-zo֑'t veshsa'ar֛u chareb֥u me'o֖d ne'um-yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Be astonished, O you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be you very desolate," says the LORD.

שֹׁ֥מּוּ שָׁמַ֖יִם עַל־זֹ֑את וְשַׂעֲר֛וּ חָרְב֥וּ מְאֹ֖ד נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-shshetּa֥yim ra'֖ot 'ashsa֣h 'amּi֑y 'oti֨y 'azeb֜u meq֣or ׀ ma֣yim chayּi֗ym lachetzo֤b lahem֙ bּo'r֔ot bּo'rot֙ nishshebּari֔ym 'ashshe֥r lo'-yaki֖lu hamּaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the [1] fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water."

כִּֽי־שְׁתַּ֥יִם רָע֖וֹת עָשָׂ֣ה עַמִּ֑י אֹתִ֨י עָזְב֜וּ מְק֣וֹר ׀ מַ֣יִם חַיִּ֗ים לַחְצֹ֤ב לָהֶם֙ בֹּאר֔וֹת בֹּארֹת֙ נִשְׁבָּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־יָכִ֖לוּ הַמָּֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ha'e֨bed֙ yishsera'e֔l 'im-yeli֥yd bּa֖yit h֑u madּ֖u'a haya֥h labaֽz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?"

הַעֶ֨בֶד֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִם־יְלִ֥יד בַּ֖יִת ה֑וּא מַדּ֖וּעַ הָיָ֥ה לָבַֽז׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): alayv֙ yishshe'ag֣u kepiri֔ym naten֖u qola֑m vayּashshi֤ytu 'aretzo֙ leshshamּa֔h 'ara֥yv ntzth nitzּet֖u mibּeli֥y yoshsheֽb׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant."

עָלָיו֙ יִשְׁאֲג֣וּ כְפִרִ֔ים נָתְנ֖וּ קוֹלָ֑ם וַיָּשִׁ֤יתוּ אַרְצוֹ֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה עָרָ֥יו נצתה נִצְּת֖וּ מִבְּלִ֥י יֹשֵֽׁב׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּam-bּeney-no֖p vtchpns vetachepּaneche֑s yire'֖uke qadeqoֽd׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of your head."

גַּם־בְּנֵי־נֹ֖ף ותחפנס וְתַחְפַּנְחֵ֑ס יִרְע֖וּךְ קָדְקֹֽד׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): halo'-zo֖'t tּa'ashseh-lּa֑ke 'azebeke֙ 'et-yehva֣h 'eloha֔yike bּe'e֖t moliyke֥ke bּadּaֽreke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Hast you not procured this to yourself, in that you hast forsaken the LORD your God, when He led you by the way?"

הֲלוֹא־זֹ֖את תַּעֲשֶׂה־לָּ֑ךְ עָזְבֵךְ֙ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהַ֔יִךְ בְּעֵ֖ת מוֹלִיכֵ֥ךְ בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֗h mah-lּake֙ lede֣reke mitzera֔yim lishshetּ֖ot me֣y shshich֑or umah-lּake֙ lede֣reke 'ashshּ֔ur lishshetּ֖ot me֥y nahaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And now what hast you to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast you to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?"

וְעַתָּ֗ה מַה־לָּךְ֙ לְדֶ֣רֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת מֵ֣י שִׁח֑וֹר וּמַה־לָּךְ֙ לְדֶ֣רֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת מֵ֥י נָהָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): tּeyasּere֣ke ra'ate֗ke umeshshuֽbota֨yike֙ tּokichu֔ke ude'i֤y ure'iy֙ kּiy-ra֣ vama֔r 'azebe֖ke 'et-yehva֣h 'eloha֑yike velo֤ pachedּatiy֙ 'ela֔yike ne'um-'adona֥y yehvi֖h tzeba'ֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you hast forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you," says the Lord GOD of hosts.

תְּיַסְּרֵ֣ךְ רָעָתֵ֗ךְ וּמְשֻֽׁבוֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ תּוֹכִחֻ֔ךְ וּדְעִ֤י וּרְאִי֙ כִּי־רַ֣ע וָמָ֔ר עָזְבֵ֖ךְ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֑יִךְ וְלֹ֤א פַחְדָּתִי֙ אֵלַ֔יִךְ נְאֻם־אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִ֖ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y me'ola֞m shshaba֣retּiy 'ulּe֗ke nitּa֨qetּiy֙ moserota֔yike vatּo'meri֖y lo֣ 'bd 'e'eb֑or kּi֣y 'aֽl-kּal-gּibe'a֞h gּeboha֗h veta֨chat֙ kּal-'e֣tz ra'ana֔n 'a֖tּe tzo'a֥h zonaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For of old time I have broken your yoke, and burst your bands; and you said, 'I will not transgress;' when upon every high hill and under every green tree you wanderest, playing the harlot."

כִּ֣י מֵעוֹלָ֞ם שָׁבַ֣רְתִּי עֻלֵּ֗ךְ נִתַּ֨קְתִּי֙ מוֹסְרֹתַ֔יִךְ וַתֹּאמְרִ֖י לֹ֣א אעבד אֶעֱב֑וֹר כִּ֣י עַֽל־כָּל־גִּבְעָ֞ה גְּבֹהָ֗ה וְתַ֨חַת֙ כָּל־עֵ֣ץ רַעֲנָ֔ן אַ֖תְּ צֹעָ֥ה זֹנָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'aֽnokiy֙ neta'etּi֣yke shsore֔q kּulּo֖h ze֣ra 'eme֑t ve'eyke֙ nehepּa֣ketּe li֔y sure֖y hagּe֥pen nakeriyּaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then are you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to Me?"

וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ נְטַעְתִּ֣יךְ שֹׂרֵ֔ק כֻּלֹּ֖ה זֶ֣רַע אֱמֶ֑ת וְאֵיךְ֙ נֶהְפַּ֣כְתְּ לִ֔י סוּרֵ֖י הַגֶּ֥פֶן נָכְרִיָּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֤y 'im-tּekabּesiy֙ bּanּe֔ter vetarebּiy-la֖ke bּori֑yt niketּa֤m 'avoneke֙ lepana֔y ne'u֖m 'adona֥y yehviֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For though you wash yourself with nitre, and take you much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before Me," says the Lord GOD.

כִּ֤י אִם־תְּכַבְּסִי֙ בַּנֶּ֔תֶר וְתַרְבִּי־לָ֖ךְ בֹּרִ֑ית נִכְתָּ֤ם עֲוֺנֵךְ֙ לְפָנַ֔י נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֣yke tּo'meri֞y lo֣ niteme֗'tiy 'achare֤y habּe'aliym֙ lo֣ hala֔ketּiy re'i֤y darekּeke֙ bּagּa֔ye dּe'i֖y me֣h 'ashsi֑yt bּikera֥h qalּa֖h meshsare֥ket dּerakeֽyha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"How canst you say, 'I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?' see your way in the valley, know what you hast done: you are a swift dromedary traversing her ways;"

אֵ֣יךְ תֹּאמְרִ֞י לֹ֣א נִטְמֵ֗אתִי אַחֲרֵ֤י הַבְּעָלִים֙ לֹ֣א הָלַ֔כְתִּי רְאִ֤י דַרְכֵּךְ֙ בַּגַּ֔יְא דְּעִ֖י מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֑ית בִּכְרָ֥ה קַלָּ֖ה מְשָׂרֶ֥כֶת דְּרָכֶֽיהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): pּe֣reh ׀ limּu֣d midebּa֗r bּe'aua֤t npshv napeshshahּ֙ shsha'apa֣h r֔ucha tּa'anata֖hּ mi֣y yeshshiybe֑nּah kּal-mebaqeshshe֨yha֙ lo֣ yiy'a֔pu bּechadeshsha֖hּ yimetza'ֽuneha׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her."

פֶּ֣רֶה ׀ לִמֻּ֣ד מִדְבָּ֗ר בְּאַוַּ֤ת נפשו נַפְשָׁהּ֙ שָׁאֲפָ֣ה ר֔וּחַ תַּאֲנָתָ֖הּ מִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נָּה כָּל־מְבַקְשֶׁ֨יהָ֙ לֹ֣א יִיעָ֔פוּ בְּחָדְשָׁ֖הּ יִמְצָאֽוּנְהָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): mine'i֤y rageleke֙ miyּache֔p vgvrnk ugerone֖ke mitzּime'a֑h vatּo'meri֣y no'a֔shsh l֕o kּiֽy-'aha֥betּiy zari֖ym ve'achareyhe֥m 'eleֽke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Withhold your foot from being unshod, and your throat from thirst: but you saidst, 'There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.'"

מִנְעִ֤י רַגְלֵךְ֙ מִיָּחֵ֔ף וגורנך וּגְרוֹנֵ֖ךְ מִצִּמְאָ֑ה וַתֹּאמְרִ֣י נוֹאָ֔שׁ ל֕וֹא כִּֽי־אָהַ֥בְתִּי זָרִ֖ים וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֥ם אֵלֵֽךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּebo֤shshet gּanּab֙ kּi֣y yimּatze֔ kּe֥n hobi֖yshshu bּe֣yt yishsera'e֑l he֤mּah malekeyhem֙ shsaֽreyhe֔m vekohaneyhe֖m unebiy'eyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,"

כְּבֹ֤שֶׁת גַּנָּב֙ כִּ֣י יִמָּצֵ֔א כֵּ֥ן הֹבִ֖ישׁוּ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הֵ֤מָּה מַלְכֵיהֶם֙ שָֽׂרֵיהֶ֔ם וְכֹהֲנֵיהֶ֖ם וּנְבִיאֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): omeri֨ym la'e֜tz 'a֣biy 'a֗tּah vela'e֨ben֙ 'a֣tּe yldtny yelidetּa֔nu kּiֽy-pan֥u 'ela֛y 'o֖rep velo֣ pani֑ym ube'e֤t raֽ'atam֙ yoֽ'mer֔u q֖umah vehoshshiy'eֽnu׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Saying to a stock, 'You are my father;' and to a stone, 'You hast brought me forth:' for they have turned their back to Me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, 'Arise, and save us.'"

אֹמְרִ֨ים לָעֵ֜ץ אָ֣בִי אַ֗תָּה וְלָאֶ֨בֶן֙ אַ֣תְּ ילדתני יְלִדְתָּ֔נוּ כִּֽי־פָנ֥וּ אֵלַ֛י עֹ֖רֶף וְלֹ֣א פָנִ֑ים וּבְעֵ֤ת רָֽעָתָם֙ יֹֽאמְר֔וּ ק֖וּמָה וְהוֹשִׁיעֵֽנוּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'ayּe֤h 'elohe֨yka֙ 'ashshe֣r 'ashsi֣yta lּa֔ke yaq֕umu 'im-yoshshiy'֖uka bּe'e֣t ra'ate֑ka kּi֚y misepּa֣r 'are֔yka hay֥u 'elohe֖yka yehudaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"But where are your gods that you hast made for yourself? let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble: for according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah."

וְאַיֵּ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֣יתָ לָּ֔ךְ יָק֕וּמוּ אִם־יוֹשִׁיע֖וּךָ בְּעֵ֣ת רָעָתֶ֑ךָ כִּ֚י מִסְפַּ֣ר עָרֶ֔יךָ הָי֥וּ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ יְהוּדָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): la֥mּah tari֖ybu 'ela֑y kּulּeke֛m pּeshsha'etּe֥m bּi֖y ne'um-yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Wherefore will you plead with Me? you all have transgressed against Me," says the LORD.

לָ֥מָּה תָרִ֖יבוּ אֵלָ֑י כֻּלְּכֶ֛ם פְּשַׁעְתֶּ֥ם בִּ֖י נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lashshּave'֙ hikּe֣ytiy 'et-bּeneyke֔m musa֖r lo֣ laqa֑chu 'akela֧h charebּeke֛m nebiֽy'eyke֖m kּe'areye֥h mashshechiֽyt׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion."

לַשָּׁוְא֙ הִכֵּ֣יתִי אֶת־בְּנֵיכֶ֔ם מוּסָ֖ר לֹ֣א לָקָ֑חוּ אָכְלָ֧ה חַרְבְּכֶ֛ם נְבִֽיאֵיכֶ֖ם כְּאַרְיֵ֥ה מַשְׁחִֽית׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hadּ֗or 'atּem֙ re'֣u debar-yehva֔h hamidebּa֤r hayi֨ytiy֙ leyishsera'e֔l 'i֛m 'e֥retz ma'epּe֖leya֑h madּ֜u'a 'amer֤u 'amּiy֙ ra֔denu lֽo'-nab֥o '֖od 'eleֽyka׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"O generation, see you the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say My people, 'We are lords; we will come no more to You?'"

הַדּ֗וֹר אַתֶּם֙ רְא֣וּ דְבַר־יְהוָ֔ה הֲמִדְבָּ֤ר הָיִ֨יתִי֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִ֛ם אֶ֥רֶץ מַאְפֵּ֖לְיָ֑ה מַדּ֜וּעַ אָמְר֤וּ עַמִּי֙ רַ֔דְנוּ לֽוֹא־נָב֥וֹא ע֖וֹד אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hatishshekּa֤ch bּetulah֙ 'edeya֔hּ kּalּa֖h qishshּure֑yha ve'amּi֣y shshekech֔uniy yami֖ym 'e֥yn misepּaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet My people have forgotten Me days without number."

הֲתִשְׁכַּ֤ח בְּתוּלָה֙ עֶדְיָ֔הּ כַּלָּ֖ה קִשֻּׁרֶ֑יהָ וְעַמִּ֣י שְׁכֵח֔וּנִי יָמִ֖ים אֵ֥ין מִסְפָּֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): mah-tּeyti֥biy dּarekּe֖ke lebaqּe֣shsh 'ahaba֑h laken֙ gּa֣m 'et-hara'֔ot lmdty limּa֖detּe 'et-dּerakaֽyike׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Why trimmest you your way to seek love? therefore hast you also taught the wicked ones your ways."

מַה־תֵּיטִ֥בִי דַּרְכֵּ֖ךְ לְבַקֵּ֣שׁ אַהֲבָ֑ה לָכֵן֙ גַּ֣ם אֶת־הָרָע֔וֹת למדתי לִמַּ֖דְתְּ אֶת־דְּרָכָֽיִךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּa֤m bּikenapa֨yike֙ nimetze'֔u dּa֛m napeshsh֥ot 'ebeyoni֖ym neqiyּi֑ym loֽ'-bamּachetּe֥ret metza'ti֖ym kּi֥y 'al-kּal-'eֽlּeh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Also in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these."

גַּ֤ם בִּכְנָפַ֨יִךְ֙ נִמְצְא֔וּ דַּ֛ם נַפְשׁ֥וֹת אֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים נְקִיִּ֑ים לֹֽא־בַמַּחְתֶּ֥רֶת מְצָאתִ֖ים כִּ֥י עַל־כָּל־אֵֽלֶּה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּoֽ'meriy֙ kּi֣y niqּe֔ytiy 'a֛ke shsha֥b 'apּ֖o mimּe֑nּiy hineniy֙ nishshepּa֣t 'ota֔ke 'al-'amere֖ke lo֥ chataֽ'tiy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Yet you say, 'Because I am innocent, surely His anger shall turn from me.' Behold, I will plead with you, because you say, 'I have not sinned.'"

וַתֹּֽאמְרִי֙ כִּ֣י נִקֵּ֔יתִי אַ֛ךְ שָׁ֥ב אַפּ֖וֹ מִמֶּ֑נִּי הִנְנִי֙ נִשְׁפָּ֣ט אוֹתָ֔ךְ עַל־אָמְרֵ֖ךְ לֹ֥א חָטָֽאתִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): mah-tּezeli֥y me'o֖d leshshanּ֣ot 'et-dּarekּe֑ke gּa֤m mimּitzera֨yim֙ tּeb֔oshshiy kּa'ashsher-bּo֖shshetּe me'ashshּֽur׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Why gaddest you about so much to change your way? you also shall be ashamed of Egypt, as you was ashamed of Assyria."

מַה־תֵּזְלִ֥י מְאֹ֖ד לְשַׁנּ֣וֹת אֶת־דַּרְכֵּ֑ךְ גַּ֤ם מִמִּצְרַ֨יִם֙ תֵּב֔וֹשִׁי כַּאֲשֶׁר־בֹּ֖שְׁתְּ מֵאַשּֽׁוּר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּa֣m me'e֥t zeh֙ tּeֽtze'i֔y veyada֖yike 'al-ro'shshe֑ke kּiֽy-ma'a֤s yehovah֙ bּemibetacha֔yike velo֥ tatzeli֖ychiy laheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Yes, you shall go forth from him, and your hands upon your head: for the LORD has rejected your confidences, and you shall not prosper in them."

גַּ֣ם מֵאֵ֥ת זֶה֙ תֵּֽצְאִ֔י וְיָדַ֖יִךְ עַל־רֹאשֵׁ֑ךְ כִּֽי־מָאַ֤ס יְהֹוָה֙ בְּמִבְטַחַ֔יִךְ וְלֹ֥א תַצְלִ֖יחִי לָהֶֽם׃
