Chapter 32

Phonetic (Hebrew): hadּaba֞r 'ashsher-haya֤h 'eֽl-yiremeya֨hu֙ me'e֣t yehva֔h bshnt bּashshּanah֙ ha'ashsiri֔yt letzideqiyּa֖hu me֣leke yehuda֑h hi֧y hashshּana֛h shshemoneֽh-'eshsere֥h shshana֖h linebֽukadere'tzּaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.

הַדָּבָ֞ר אֲשֶׁר־הָיָ֤ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֨הוּ֙ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה בשנת בַּשָּׁנָה֙ הָעֲשִׂרִ֔ית לְצִדְקִיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה הִ֧יא הַשָּׁנָ֛ה שְׁמֹנֶֽה־עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה שָׁנָ֖ה לִנְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'a֗z che֚yl me֣leke bּabe֔l tzari֖ym 'al-yerushshala֑im veyiremeya֣hu hanּabi֗y haya֤h kalu'֙ bּachatza֣r hamּatּara֔h 'ashshe֖r bּeֽyt-me֥leke yehudaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.

וְאָ֗ז חֵ֚יל מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל צָרִ֖ים עַל־יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְיִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֗יא הָיָ֤ה כָלוּא֙ בַּחֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר בֵּֽית־מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ashshe֣r kּela'֔o tzideqiyּa֥hu meֽleke-yehuda֖h le'mo֑r madּu'a֩ 'atּa֨h nibּa֜ le'mo֗r kּo֚h 'ama֣r yehva֔h hineni֨y note֜n 'et-ha'i֥yr hazּo֛'t bּeya֥d meֽleke-bּabe֖l ulekadaֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, "Wherefore dost you prophesy, and say, 'Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;'"

אֲשֶׁ֣ר כְּלָא֔וֹ צִדְקִיָּ֥הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר מַדּוּעַ֩ אַתָּ֨ה נִבָּ֜א לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִנְנִ֨י נֹתֵ֜ן אֶת־הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּ֛את בְּיַ֥ד מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל וּלְכָדָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vetzideqiyּa֨hu֙ me֣leke yehuda֔h lo֥ yimּale֖t miyּa֣d hakּashsedּi֑ym kּi֣y hinּato֤n yinּaten֙ bּeya֣d meֽleke-bּabe֔l vedibּer-pּi֣yv 'im-pּi֔yv ve'eyna֖yv 'et-'ynv 'eyna֥yv tּire'eֽynah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"'And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;'"

וְצִדְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה לֹ֥א יִמָּלֵ֖ט מִיַּ֣ד הַכַּשְׂדִּ֑ים כִּ֣י הִנָּתֹ֤ן יִנָּתֵן֙ בְּיַ֣ד מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֔ל וְדִבֶּר־פִּ֣יו עִם־פִּ֔יו וְעֵינָ֖יו אֶת־עינו עֵינָ֥יו תִּרְאֶֽינָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ubabe֞l yoli֤ke 'et-tzideqiyּa֨hu֙ veshsha֣m yiֽheye֔h 'ad-pּaqedi֥y 'ot֖o ne'um-yehva֑h kּi֧y tiֽlּacham֛u 'et-hakּashsedּi֖ym lo֥ tatzeliֽychu׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"'And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him,' says the LORD: 'though you fight with the Chaldeans, you shall not prosper?'"

וּבָבֶ֞ל יוֹלִ֤ךְ אֶת־צִדְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ וְשָׁ֣ם יִֽהְיֶ֔ה עַד־פָּקְדִ֥י אֹת֖וֹ נְאֻם־יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֧י תִֽלָּחֲמ֛וּ אֶת־הַכַּשְׂדִּ֖ים לֹ֥א תַצְלִֽיחוּ׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֖'mer yiremeya֑hu haya֥h dּebar-yehva֖h 'ela֥y le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And Jeremiah said, "The word of the LORD came to me, saying,"

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ הָיָ֥ה דְּבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֣h chaname'e֗l bּen-shshalּum֙ dּoֽdeka֔ bּa֥ 'ele֖yka le'mo֑r qene֣h leka֗ 'et-shsadiy֙ 'ashshe֣r bּa'anat֔ot kּi֥y leka֛ mishshepּa֥t hagּe'ulּa֖h liqenֽot׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, 'Buy you my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.'"

הִנֵּ֣ה חֲנַמְאֵ֗ל בֶּן־שַׁלֻּם֙ דֹּֽדְךָ֔ בָּ֥א אֵלֶ֖יךָ לֵאמֹ֑ר קְנֵ֣ה לְךָ֗ אֶת־שָׂדִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּעֲנָת֔וֹת כִּ֥י לְךָ֛ מִשְׁפַּ֥ט הַגְּאֻלָּ֖ה לִקְנֽוֹת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֣ 'e֠lay chaname'e֨l bּen-dּodi֜y kּideba֣r yehvah֮ 'el-chatza֣r hamּatּarah֒ vayּo֣'mer 'ela֡y qene֣h na֠ 'et-shsadi֨y 'ashsher-bּa'anat֜ot 'ashshe֣r ׀ bּe'e֣retz bּineyami֗yn kּiֽy-leka֞ mishshepּa֧t hayerushshּa֛h uleka֥ hagּe'ulּa֖h qeneh-la֑ke va'eda֕ kּi֥y debar-yehva֖h hֽu'׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said to me, "Buy my field, I pray you, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself." Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

וַיָּבֹ֣א אֵ֠לַי חֲנַמְאֵ֨ל בֶּן־דֹּדִ֜י כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָה֮ אֶל־חֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָה֒ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֡י קְנֵ֣ה נָ֠א אֶת־שָׂדִ֨י אֲשֶׁר־בַּעֲנָת֜וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֗ין כִּֽי־לְךָ֞ מִשְׁפַּ֧ט הַיְרֻשָּׁ֛ה וּלְךָ֥ הַגְּאֻלָּ֖ה קְנֵה־לָ֑ךְ וָאֵדַ֕ע כִּ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה הֽוּא׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽ'eqeneh֙ 'et-hashsּade֔h me'e֛t chaname'e֥l bּen-dּodi֖y 'ashshe֣r bּa'anat֑ot vaֽ'eshsheqalah-lּo֙ 'et-hakּe֔sep shshibe'a֥h shsheqali֖ym va'ashsara֥h hakּaֽsep׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

וָֽאֶקְנֶה֙ אֶת־הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה מֵאֵ֛ת חֲנַמְאֵ֥ל בֶּן־דֹּדִ֖י אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּעֲנָת֑וֹת וָֽאֶשְׁקֲלָה־לּוֹ֙ אֶת־הַכֶּ֔סֶף שִׁבְעָ֥ה שְׁקָלִ֖ים וַעֲשָׂרָ֥ה הַכָּֽסֶף׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'eketּo֤b bּasּe֨per֙ vaֽ'echetּo֔m va'a'e֖d 'edi֑ym va'eshsheqo֥l hakּe֖sep bּemo'zenaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

וָאֶכְתֹּ֤ב בַּסֵּ֨פֶר֙ וָֽאֶחְתֹּ֔ם וָאָעֵ֖ד עֵדִ֑ים וָאֶשְׁקֹ֥ל הַכֶּ֖סֶף בְּמֹאזְנָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'eqּa֖ch 'et-se֣per hamּiqena֑h 'et-heֽchat֛um hamּitzeva֥h vehachuqּi֖ym ve'et-hagּalֽuy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open:

וָאֶקַּ֖ח אֶת־סֵ֣פֶר הַמִּקְנָ֑ה אֶת־הֶֽחָת֛וּם הַמִּצְוָ֥ה וְהַחֻקִּ֖ים וְאֶת־הַגָּלֽוּי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'etּe֞n 'et-hasּe֣per hamּiqena֗h 'el-bּar֣uke bּen-neriyּah֮ bּen-macheseyah֒ le'eyney֙ chaname'e֣l dּodi֔y ule'eyney֙ haֽ'edi֔ym hakּotebi֖ym bּese֣per hamּiqena֑h le'eyney֙ kּal-hayּehudi֔ym hayּoshshebi֖ym bּachatza֥r hamּatּaraֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I gave the evidence of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel my uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.

וָאֶתֵּ֞ן אֶת־הַסֵּ֣פֶר הַמִּקְנָ֗ה אֶל־בָּר֣וּךְ בֶּן־נֵרִיָּה֮ בֶּן־מַחְסֵיָה֒ לְעֵינֵי֙ חֲנַמְאֵ֣ל דֹּדִ֔י וּלְעֵינֵי֙ הָֽעֵדִ֔ים הַכֹּתְבִ֖ים בְּסֵ֣פֶר הַמִּקְנָ֑ה לְעֵינֵי֙ כָּל־הַיְּהוּדִ֔ים הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים בַּחֲצַ֥ר הַמַּטָּרָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vֽa'atzaueh֙ 'et bּar֔uke le'eyneyhe֖m le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And I charged Baruch before them, saying,

וָֽאֲצַוֶּה֙ אֶת בָּר֔וּךְ לְעֵינֵיהֶ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּoֽh-'amar֩ yehva֨h tzeba'֜ot 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֗l laq֣ocha 'et-hasּepari֣ym ha'e֡lּeh 'e֣t seper֩ hamּiqena֨h hazּe֜h ve'e֣t hechat֗um ve'e֨t se֤per hagּaluy֙ hazּe֔h unetatּa֖m bּikeliy-cha֑reshs lema֥'an ya'amed֖u yami֥ym rabּiֽym׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days."

כֹּֽה־אָמַר֩ יְהוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל לָק֣וֹחַ אֶת־הַסְּפָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֡לֶּה אֵ֣ת סֵפֶר֩ הַמִּקְנָ֨ה הַזֶּ֜ה וְאֵ֣ת הֶחָת֗וּם וְאֵ֨ת סֵ֤פֶר הַגָּלוּי֙ הַזֶּ֔ה וּנְתַתָּ֖ם בִּכְלִי־חָ֑רֶשׂ לְמַ֥עַן יַעַמְד֖וּ יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֣y ko֥h 'ama֛r yehva֥h tzeba'֖ot 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֑l '֣od yiqּan֥u batּi֛ym veshsad֥ot ukerami֖ym bּa'a֥retz hazּoֽ't׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land."

כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל ע֣וֹד יִקָּנ֥וּ בָתִּ֛ים וְשָׂד֥וֹת וּכְרָמִ֖ים בָּאָ֥רֶץ הַזֹּֽאת׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): va'etepּalּe֖l 'el-yehva֑h 'achare֤y titּiy֙ 'et-se֣per hamּiqena֔h 'el-bּar֥uke bּen-neriyּa֖h le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD, saying,

וָאֶתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל־יְהוָ֑ה אַחֲרֵ֤י תִתִּי֙ אֶת־סֵ֣פֶר הַמִּקְנָ֔ה אֶל־בָּר֥וּךְ בֶּן־נֵרִיָּ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ahahּ֮ 'adona֣y yehvih֒ hinּe֣h ׀ 'atּa֣h 'ashsi֗yta 'et-hashshּama֨yim֙ ve'et-ha'a֔retz bּekoֽchaka֙ hagּad֔ol ubiֽzero'aka֖ hanּetuya֑h loֽ'-yipּale֥ mimּeka֖ kּal-dּabaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Ah Lord GOD! behold, You hast made the heaven and the earth by Your great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for You:

אֲהָהּ֮ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִה֒ הִנֵּ֣ה ׀ אַתָּ֣ה עָשִׂ֗יתָ אֶת־הַשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ וְאֶת־הָאָ֔רֶץ בְּכֹֽחֲךָ֙ הַגָּד֔וֹל וּבִֽזְרֹעֲךָ֖ הַנְּטוּיָ֑ה לֹֽא־יִפָּלֵ֥א מִמְּךָ֖ כָּל־דָּבָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): o֤shseh che֨sed֙ laֽ'alapi֔ym umeshshalּem֙ 'avo֣n 'ab֔ot 'el-che֥yq bּeneyhe֖m 'achareyhe֑m ha'e֤l hagּadol֙ hagּibּ֔or yehva֥h tzeba'֖ot shshemֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)You showest lovingkindness to thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is His name,

עֹ֤שֶׂה חֶ֨סֶד֙ לַֽאֲלָפִ֔ים וּמְשַׁלֵּם֙ עֲוֺ֣ן אָב֔וֹת אֶל־חֵ֥יק בְּנֵיהֶ֖ם אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם הָאֵ֤ל הַגָּדוֹל֙ הַגִּבּ֔וֹר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת שְׁמֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): gּedol֙ haֽ'etza֔h vera֖b ha'aliֽyliyּa֑h 'ashsher-'eyne֣yka pequch֗ot 'al-kּal-dּarekey֙ bּene֣y 'ada֔m late֤t le'iyshsh֙ kּideraka֔yv vekiperi֖y ma'alalaֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for Your eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

גְּדֹל֙ הָֽעֵצָ֔ה וְרַ֖ב הָעֲלִֽילִיָּ֑ה אֲשֶׁר־עֵינֶ֣יךָ פְקֻח֗וֹת עַל־כָּל־דַּרְכֵי֙ בְּנֵ֣י אָדָ֔ם לָתֵ֤ת לְאִישׁ֙ כִּדְרָכָ֔יו וְכִפְרִ֖י מַעֲלָלָֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ashsher-shsa֠metּa 'ot֨ot umopeti֤ym bּe'eֽretz-mitzera֨yim֙ 'ad-hayּ֣om hazּe֔h ubeyishsera'e֖l ubaֽ'ada֑m vatּa'ashseh-lּeka֥ shshe֖m kּayּ֥om hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made You a name, as at this day;

אֲשֶׁר־שַׂ֠מְתָּ אֹת֨וֹת וּמֹפְתִ֤ים בְּאֶֽרֶץ־מִצְרַ֨יִם֙ עַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וּבְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וּבָֽאָדָ֑ם וַתַּעֲשֶׂה־לְּךָ֥ שֵׁ֖ם כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּotze֛ 'et-'amּeka֥ 'et-yishsera'e֖l me'e֣retz mitzera֑yim bּe'ot֣ot ubemopeti֗ym ubeya֤d chazaqah֙ ube'ezer֣o'a netuya֔h ubemora֖ gּadֽol׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And hast brought forth Your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;

וַתֹּצֵ֛א אֶת־עַמְּךָ֥ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם בְּאֹת֣וֹת וּבְמוֹפְתִ֗ים וּבְיָ֤ד חֲזָקָה֙ וּבְאֶזְר֣וֹעַ נְטוּיָ֔ה וּבְמוֹרָ֖א גָּדֽוֹל׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vatּitּe֤n lahem֙ 'et-ha'a֣retz hazּo֔'t 'ashsher-nishshebּa֥'etּa la'abota֖m late֣t lahe֑m 'e֛retz zaba֥t chala֖b udebaֽshsh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And hast given them this land, which You did swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

וַתִּתֵּ֤ן לָהֶם֙ אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתָּ לַאֲבוֹתָ֖ם לָתֵ֣ת לָהֶ֑ם אֶ֛רֶץ זָבַ֥ת חָלָ֖ב וּדְבָֽשׁ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֜'u vayּiֽreshsh֣u 'ota֗hּ veloֽ'-shshame'֤u beqole֨ka֙ vbtrvtk ubetorateka֣ lo'-hala֔ku 'et֩ kּal-'ashshe֨r tziui֧ytah lahe֛m la'ashs֖ot lo֣ 'ashs֑u vatּaqere֣ 'ota֔m 'e֥t kּal-hara'a֖h hazּoֽ't׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not Your voice, neither walked in Your law; they have done nothing of all that You commandedst them to do: therefore You hast caused all this evil to come upon them:

וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ וַיִּֽרְשׁ֣וּ אֹתָ֗הּ וְלֹֽא־שָׁמְע֤וּ בְקוֹלֶ֨ךָ֙ ובתרותך וּבְתוֹרָתְךָ֣ לֹא־הָלָ֔כוּ אֵת֩ כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוִּ֧יתָה לָהֶ֛ם לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת לֹ֣א עָשׂ֑וּ וַתַּקְרֵ֣א אֹתָ֔ם אֵ֥ת כָּל־הָרָעָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּe֣h hasּolel֗ot bּa֣'u ha'iyr֮ lelakedahּ֒ veha'i֣yr nitּena֗h bּeya֤d hakּashsedּiym֙ hanּilechami֣ym 'ale֔yha mipּene֛y hache֥reb vehara'a֖b vehadּa֑ber va'ashshe֥r dּibּa֛retּa haya֖h vehinּeka֥ ro'eֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Behold the mounts, they are come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what You hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, You seest it.

הִנֵּ֣ה הַסֹּלְל֗וֹת בָּ֣אוּ הָעִיר֮ לְלָכְדָהּ֒ וְהָעִ֣יר נִתְּנָ֗ה בְּיַ֤ד הַכַּשְׂדִּים֙ הַנִּלְחָמִ֣ים עָלֶ֔יהָ מִפְּנֵ֛י הַחֶ֥רֶב וְהָרָעָ֖ב וְהַדָּ֑בֶר וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֛רְתָּ הָיָ֖ה וְהִנְּךָ֥ רֹאֶֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֞h 'ama֤retּa 'elay֙ 'adona֣y yehvi֔h qeneֽh-leka֧ hashsּade֛h bּakּe֖sep veha'e֣d 'edi֑ym veha'i֥yr nitּena֖h bּeya֥d hakּashsedּiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And You hast said to me, O Lord GOD, "Buy you the field for money, and take witnesses;" for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

וְאַתָּ֞ה אָמַ֤רְתָּ אֵלַי֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה קְנֵֽה־לְךָ֧ הַשָּׂדֶ֛ה בַּכֶּ֖סֶף וְהָעֵ֣ד עֵדִ֑ים וְהָעִ֥יר נִתְּנָ֖ה בְּיַ֥ד הַכַּשְׂדִּֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehiy֙ dּebar-yehva֔h 'eֽl-yiremeya֖hu le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then came the word of the LORD to Jeremiah, saying,

וַיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hinּeh֙ 'ani֣y yehva֔h 'elohe֖y kּal-bּashsa֑r haֽmimּe֔nּiy yipּale֖ kּal-dּabaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for Me?

הִנֵּה֙ אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֔ה אֱלֹהֵ֖י כָּל־בָּשָׂ֑ר הֲֽמִמֶּ֔נִּי יִפָּלֵ֖א כָּל־דָּבָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֕n kּo֖h 'ama֣r yehva֑h hineni֣y noten֩ 'et-ha'i֨yr hazּo֜'t bּeya֣d hakּashsedּi֗ym ubeya֛d nebֽukadere'tzּa֥r meֽleke-bּabe֖l ulekadaֽhּ׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore thus says the LORD; "Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:"

לָכֵ֕ן כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה הִנְנִ֣י נֹתֵן֩ אֶת־הָעִ֨יר הַזֹּ֜את בְּיַ֣ד הַכַּשְׂדִּ֗ים וּבְיַ֛ד נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֥ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל וּלְכָדָֽהּ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): uba֣'u hakּashsedּi֗ym hanּilechamiym֙ 'al-ha'i֣yr hazּo֔'t vehitzּi֜ytu 'et-ha'i֥yr hazּo֛'t bּa'e֖shsh ushserap֑uha ve'e֣t habּatּi֡ym 'ashsher֩ qitּer֨u 'al-gּagּֽoteyhe֜m labּa֗'al vehisּi֤ku nesakiym֙ le'lohi֣ym 'acheri֔ym lema֖'an hake'iseֽniy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger."

וּבָ֣אוּ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֗ים הַנִּלְחָמִים֙ עַל־הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את וְהִצִּ֜יתוּ אֶת־הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּ֛את בָּאֵ֖שׁ וּשְׂרָפ֑וּהָ וְאֵ֣ת הַבָּתִּ֡ים אֲשֶׁר֩ קִטְּר֨וּ עַל־גַּגּֽוֹתֵיהֶ֜ם לַבַּ֗עַל וְהִסִּ֤כוּ נְסָכִים֙ לֵאלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים לְמַ֖עַן הַכְעִסֵֽנִי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-hay֨u beneֽy-yishsera'e֜l ubene֣y yehuda֗h 'a֣ke 'oshsi֥ym hara֛ bּe'eyna֖y minּe'uroֽteyhe֑m kּi֣y beneֽy-yishsera'e֗l 'a֣ke make'isi֥ym 'oti֛y bּema'ashse֥h yedeyhe֖m ne'um-yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before Me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked Me to anger with the work of their hands," says the LORD.

כִּֽי־הָי֨וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל וּבְנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה אַ֣ךְ עֹשִׂ֥ים הָרַ֛ע בְּעֵינַ֖י מִנְּעֻרֹֽתֵיהֶ֑ם כִּ֣י בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אַ֣ךְ מַכְעִסִ֥ים אֹתִ֛י בְּמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יְדֵיהֶ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּi֧y 'al-'apּi֣y ve'al-chamati֗y ha֤yetah lּiy֙ ha'i֣yr hazּo֔'t lemin-hayּom֙ 'ashshe֣r bּan֣u 'ota֔hּ ve'a֖d hayּ֣om hazּe֑h lahasiyra֖hּ me'a֥l pּanaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"For this city has been to Me as a provocation of My anger and of My fury from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from before My face,"

כִּ֧י עַל־אַפִּ֣י וְעַל־חֲמָתִ֗י הָ֤יְתָה לִּי֙ הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את לְמִן־הַיּוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנ֣וּ אוֹתָ֔הּ וְעַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה לַהֲסִירָ֖הּ מֵעַ֥ל פָּנָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): al֩ kּal-ra'a֨t bּeneֽy-yishsera'e֜l ubene֣y yehuda֗h 'ashshe֤r 'ashsu֙ lehake'ise֔niy he֤mּah malekeyhem֙ shsaֽreyhe֔m kּohaneyhe֖m unebiֽy'eyhe֑m ve'i֣yshsh yehuda֔h veyoshshebe֖y yerushshalaiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem."

עַל֩ כָּל־רָעַ֨ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל וּבְנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשׂוּ֙ לְהַכְעִסֵ֔נִי הֵ֤מָּה מַלְכֵיהֶם֙ שָֽׂרֵיהֶ֔ם כֹּהֲנֵיהֶ֖ם וּנְבִֽיאֵיהֶ֑ם וְאִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה וְיֹשְׁבֵ֖י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּipen֥u 'ela֛y 'o֖rep velo֣ pani֑ym velamּe֤d 'otam֙ hashshekּe֣m velamּe֔d ve'eyna֥m shshome'i֖ym laqa֥chat musaֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And they have turned to Me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction."

וַיִּפְנ֥וּ אֵלַ֛י עֹ֖רֶף וְלֹ֣א פָנִ֑ים וְלַמֵּ֤ד אֹתָם֙ הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְלַמֵּ֔ד וְאֵינָ֥ם שֹׁמְעִ֖ים לָקַ֥חַת מוּסָֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּashsi֣ymu shshiqּֽutzeyhe֗m bּabּa֛yit 'ashsher-niqeraֽ'-shshemi֥y 'ala֖yv letamּe'ֽo׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by My name, to defile it."

וַיָּשִׂ֣ימוּ שִׁקּֽוּצֵיהֶ֗ם בַּבַּ֛יִת אֲשֶׁר־נִקְרָֽא־שְׁמִ֥י עָלָ֖יו לְטַמְּאֽוֹ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּibenu֩ 'et-bּam֨ot habּa֜'al 'ashshe֣r ׀ bּege֣y ben-hinּo֗m le֠ha'abiyr 'et-bּeneyhe֣m ve'et-bּenoteyhem֮ lamּoleke֒ 'ashshe֣r loֽ'-tziuiyti֗ym velo֤ 'aֽletah֙ 'al-libּi֔y la'ashs֖ot hatּo'eba֣h hazּo֑'t lema֖'an hchty hachati֥y 'et-yehudaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into My mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin."

וַיִּבְנוּ֩ אֶת־בָּמ֨וֹת הַבַּ֜עַל אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ בְּגֵ֣יא בֶן־הִנֹּ֗ם לְ֠הַעֲבִיר אֶת־בְּנֵיהֶ֣ם וְאֶת־בְּנוֹתֵיהֶם֮ לַמֹּלֶךְ֒ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־צִוִּיתִ֗ים וְלֹ֤א עָֽלְתָה֙ עַל־לִבִּ֔י לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת הַתּוֹעֵבָ֣ה הַזֹּ֑את לְמַ֖עַן החטי הַחֲטִ֥יא אֶת־יְהוּדָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'atּa֕h lake֛n kּoֽh-'ama֥r yehva֖h 'elohe֣y yishsera'e֑l 'el-ha'i֨yr hazּo֜'t 'ashshe֣r ׀ 'atּe֣m 'omeri֗ym nitּenah֙ bּeya֣d meֽleke-bּabe֔l bּache֖reb ubara'a֥b ubadּaֽber׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And now therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof you say, "It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence;"

וְעַתָּ֕ה לָכֵ֛ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֶל־הָעִ֨יר הַזֹּ֜את אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ אַתֶּ֣ם אֹמְרִ֗ים נִתְּנָה֙ בְּיַ֣ד מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֔ל בַּחֶ֖רֶב וּבָרָעָ֥ב וּבַדָּֽבֶר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): hineni֤y meqabּetzam֙ mikּal-ha֣'aratz֔ot 'ashshe֨r hidּachetּi֥ym shsha֛m bּe'apּi֥y ubachamati֖y ubeqe֣tzep gּad֑ol vahashshiֽbotiym֙ 'el-hamּaq֣om hazּe֔h vehoshshabetּi֖ym labeֽtach׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, Where I have driven them in My anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:"

הִנְנִ֤י מְקַבְּצָם֙ מִכָּל־הָ֣אֲרָצ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִדַּחְתִּ֥ים שָׁ֛ם בְּאַפִּ֥י וּבַחֲמָתִ֖י וּבְקֶ֣צֶף גָּד֑וֹל וַהֲשִֽׁבֹתִים֙ אֶל־הַמָּק֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וְהֹשַׁבְתִּ֖ים לָבֶֽטַח׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veha֥yu li֖y le'a֑m va'ani֕y 'eheye֥h lahe֖m le'lohiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And they shall be My people, and I will be their God:"

וְהָ֥יוּ לִ֖י לְעָ֑ם וַאֲנִ֕י אֶהְיֶ֥ה לָהֶ֖ם לֵאלֹהִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): venatatּi֨y lahe֜m le֤b 'echad֙ vede֣reke 'echa֔d leyire'a֥h 'oti֖y kּal-hayּami֑ym let֣ob lahe֔m velibeneyhe֖m 'achareyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:"

וְנָתַתִּ֨י לָהֶ֜ם לֵ֤ב אֶחָד֙ וְדֶ֣רֶךְ אֶחָ֔ד לְיִרְאָ֥ה אוֹתִ֖י כָּל־הַיָּמִ֑ים לְט֣וֹב לָהֶ֔ם וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֖ם אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vekaratּi֤y lahem֙ bּeri֣yt 'ola֔m 'ashshe֤r loֽ'-'ashshub֙ me'a֣chareyhe֔m leheytiybi֖y 'ota֑m ve'et-yire'atiy֙ 'etּe֣n bּilebaba֔m lebiletּi֖y s֥ur me'alaֽy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me."

וְכָרַתִּ֤י לָהֶם֙ בְּרִ֣ית עוֹלָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־אָשׁוּב֙ מֵאַ֣חֲרֵיהֶ֔ם לְהֵיטִיבִ֖י אוֹתָ֑ם וְאֶת־יִרְאָתִי֙ אֶתֵּ֣ן בִּלְבָבָ֔ם לְבִלְתִּ֖י ס֥וּר מֵעָלָֽי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veshsashsetּi֥y 'aleyhe֖m leheti֣yb 'ota֑m uneta'etּi֞ym bּa'a֤retz hazּo't֙ bּe'eme֔t bּekal-libּi֖y ubekal-napeshshiֽy׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with My whole heart and with My whole soul."

וְשַׂשְׂתִּ֥י עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם לְהֵטִ֣יב אוֹתָ֑ם וּנְטַעְתִּ֞ים בָּאָ֤רֶץ הַזֹּאת֙ בֶּאֱמֶ֔ת בְּכָל־לִבִּ֖י וּבְכָל־נַפְשִֽׁי׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּiֽy-koh֙ 'ama֣r yehva֔h kּa'ashshe֤r hebe֨'tiy֙ 'el-ha'a֣m hazּe֔h 'e֛t kּal-hara'a֥h hagּedola֖h hazּo֑'t kּe֣n 'anoki֞y mebi֤y 'aleyhem֙ 'et-kּal-hatּoba֔h 'ashshe֥r 'anoki֖y dּobe֥r 'aleyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)For thus says the LORD; "Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them."

כִּֽי־כֹה֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר הֵבֵ֨אתִי֙ אֶל־הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה אֵ֛ת כָּל־הָרָעָ֥ה הַגְּדוֹלָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את כֵּ֣ן אָנֹכִ֞י מֵבִ֤יא עֲלֵיהֶם֙ אֶת־כָּל־הַטּוֹבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י דֹּבֵ֥ר עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): veniqena֥h hashsּade֖h bּa'a֣retz hazּo֑'t 'ashshe֣r ׀ 'atּe֣m 'omeri֗ym shshemama֥h hiy'֙ me'e֤yn 'adam֙ ubehema֔h nitּena֖h bּeya֥d hakּashsedּiֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof you say, 'It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.'"

וְנִקְנָ֥ה הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ אַתֶּ֣ם אֹמְרִ֗ים שְׁמָמָ֥ה הִיא֙ מֵאֵ֤ין אָדָם֙ וּבְהֵמָ֔ה נִתְּנָ֖ה בְּיַ֥ד הַכַּשְׂדִּֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shsad֞ot bּakּe֣sep yiqen֗u vekat֨ob bּasּe֥per ׀ vechatom֮ veha'e֣d 'ediym֒ bּe'e֨retz bּineyami֜n ubisebiybe֣y yerushshalai֗m ube'are֤y yehudah֙ ube'are֣y haha֔r ube'are֥y hashshּepela֖h ube'are֣y hanּe֑geb kּiֽy-'ashshi֥yb 'et-shshebuta֖m ne'um-yehvaֽh׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)"Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return," says the LORD.

שָׂד֞וֹת בַּכֶּ֣סֶף יִקְנ֗וּ וְכָת֨וֹב בַּסֵּ֥פֶר ׀ וְחָתוֹם֮ וְהָעֵ֣ד עֵדִים֒ בְּאֶ֨רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֜ן וּבִסְבִיבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם וּבְעָרֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ וּבְעָרֵ֣י הָהָ֔ר וּבְעָרֵ֥י הַשְּׁפֵלָ֖ה וּבְעָרֵ֣י הַנֶּ֑גֶב כִּֽי־אָשִׁ֥יב אֶת־שְׁבוּתָ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהוָֽה׃פ
