Chapter 36

Phonetic (Hebrew): vaֽyehiy֙ bּashshּana֣h harebiy'i֔t liyhoyaqi֥ym bּen-yo'shshiyּa֖hu me֣leke yehuda֑h haya֞h hadּaba֤r hazּeh֙ 'eֽl-yiremeya֔hu me'e֥t yehva֖h le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

וַֽיְהִי֙ בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הָרְבִיעִ֔ת לִיהוֹיָקִ֥ים בֶּן־יֹאשִׁיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה הָיָ֞ה הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ מֵאֵ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): qach-leka֮ megilּat-seper֒ vekatabetּa֣ 'ele֗yha 'e֣t kּal-hadּebari֞ym 'ashsher-dּibּa֧retּiy 'ele֛yka 'al-yishsera'e֥l ve'al-yehuda֖h ve'al-kּal-hagּoyi֑m miyּ֞om dּibּa֤retּiy 'ele֨yka֙ miyme֣y yo'shshiyּa֔hu ve'a֖d hayּ֥om hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Take you a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day."

קַח־לְךָ֮ מְגִלַּת־סֵפֶר֒ וְכָתַבְתָּ֣ אֵלֶ֗יהָ אֵ֣ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֞ים אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֧רְתִּי אֵלֶ֛יךָ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל וְעַל־יְהוּדָ֖ה וְעַל־כָּל־הַגּוֹיִ֑ם מִיּ֞וֹם דִּבַּ֤רְתִּי אֵלֶ֨יךָ֙ מִימֵ֣י יֹאשִׁיָּ֔הוּ וְעַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ula֤y yishsheme'u֙ bּe֣yt yehuda֔h 'e֚t kּal-ha֣ra'a֔h 'ashshe֛r 'anoki֥y choshshe֖b la'ashs֣ot lahe֑m lema֣'an yashsh֗ubu 'i֚yshsh midּarekּ֣o hara'a֔h vesalachetּi֥y la'avona֖m ulechatּa'taֽm׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin."

אוּלַ֤י יִשְׁמְעוּ֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהוּדָ֔ה אֵ֚ת כָּל־הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י חֹשֵׁ֖ב לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָהֶ֑ם לְמַ֣עַן יָשׁ֗וּבוּ אִ֚ישׁ מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ הָרָעָ֔ה וְסָלַחְתִּ֥י לַעֲוֺנָ֖ם וּלְחַטָּאתָֽם׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqera֣ yiremeya֔hu 'et-bּar֖uke bּen-neֽriyּa֑h vayּiketּo֨b bּar֜uke mipּi֣y yiremeya֗hu 'e֣t kּal-dּibere֧y yehva֛h 'ashsher-dּibּe֥r 'ela֖yv 'al-megilּat-seֽper׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which He had spoken to him, upon a roll of a book.

וַיִּקְרָ֣א יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ אֶת־בָּר֖וּךְ בֶּן־נֵֽרִיָּ֑ה וַיִּכְתֹּ֨ב בָּר֜וּךְ מִפִּ֣י יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ אֵ֣ת כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֧י יְהוָ֛ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר אֵלָ֖יו עַל־מְגִלַּת־סֵֽפֶר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetzaue֣h yiremeya֔hu 'et-bּar֖uke le'mo֑r 'ani֣y 'atz֔ur lo֣ 'uka֔l lab֖o bּe֥yt yehvaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, "I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:"

וַיְצַוֶּ֣ה יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ אֶת־בָּר֖וּךְ לֵאמֹ֑ר אֲנִ֣י עָצ֔וּר לֹ֣א אוּכַ֔ל לָב֖וֹא בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): uba'ta֣ 'atּa֡h veqara֣'ta bamּegilּa֣h 'ashsher-kּataֽbetּa-mipּiy֩ 'et-dּibere֨y yehva֜h bּe'azene֥y ha'a֛m bּe֥yt yehva֖h bּey֣om tz֑om vega֨m bּe'azene֧y kal-yehuda֛h habּa'i֥ym me'areyhe֖m tּiqera'eֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Therefore go you, and read in the roll, which you hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house upon the fasting day: and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities."

וּבָאתָ֣ אַתָּ֡ה וְקָרָ֣אתָ בַמְּגִלָּ֣ה אֲשֶׁר־כָּתַֽבְתָּ־מִפִּי֩ אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֨י יְהוָ֜ה בְּאָזְנֵ֥י הָעָ֛ם בֵּ֥ית יְהוָ֖ה בְּי֣וֹם צ֑וֹם וְגַ֨ם בְּאָזְנֵ֧י כָל־יְהוּדָ֛ה הַבָּאִ֥ים מֵעָרֵיהֶ֖ם תִּקְרָאֵֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ula֞y tּipּo֤l tּechinּatam֙ lipene֣y yehva֔h veyashshu֕bu 'i֖yshsh midּarekּ֣o hara'a֑h kּiֽy-gad֤ol ha'ap֙ veha֣chema֔h 'ashsher-dּibּe֥r yehva֖h 'el-ha'a֥m hazּeֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way: for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people."

אוּלַ֞י תִּפֹּ֤ל תְּחִנָּתָם֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וְיָשֻׁ֕בוּ אִ֖ישׁ מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ הָרָעָ֑ה כִּֽי־גָד֤וֹל הָאַף֙ וְהַ֣חֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּa֗'ashs bּaruke֙ bּen-ne֣riyּa֔h kּeko֥l 'ashsher-tziua֖hu yiremeya֣hu hanּabi֑y liqero֥ basּe֛per dּibere֥y yehva֖h bּe֥yt yehovaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD's house.

וַיַּ֗עַשׂ בָּרוּךְ֙ בֶּן־נֵ֣רִיָּ֔ה כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖הוּ יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֑יא לִקְרֹ֥א בַסֵּ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y bashshּana֣h ha֠chamishshiyt liyhoyaqi֨ym bּen-yo'shshiyּa֤hu meֽleke-yehudah֙ bּacho֣deshsh hatּeshshi'i֔y qare'֨u tz֜om lipene֧y yehva֛h kּal-ha'a֖m bּiyrֽushshala֑im vekal-ha'a֗m habּa'i֛ym me'are֥y yehuda֖h bּiyrushshalaiֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

וַיְהִ֣י בַשָּׁנָ֣ה הַ֠חֲמִשִׁית לִיהוֹיָקִ֨ים בֶּן־יֹאשִׁיָּ֤הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַתְּשִׁעִ֔י קָרְא֨וּ צ֜וֹם לִפְנֵ֧י יְהוָ֛ה כָּל־הָעָ֖ם בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְכָל־הָעָ֗ם הַבָּאִ֛ים מֵעָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּiqera֨ bar֥uke bּasּe֛per 'et-dּibere֥y yiremeya֖hu bּe֣yt yehva֑h bּelishshekּa֡t gּemareyahu֩ ben-shshapa֨n hasּope֜r bּechatze֣r ha'eley֗on pּe֣tach shsha֤'ar bּeyt-yehvah֙ heֽchada֔shsh bּe'azene֖y kּal-ha'aֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD's house, in the ears of all the people.

וַיִּקְרָ֨א בָר֥וּךְ בַּסֵּ֛פֶר אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֥י יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה בְּלִשְׁכַּ֡ת גְּמַרְיָהוּ֩ בֶן־שָׁפָ֨ן הַסֹּפֵ֜ר בֶּחָצֵ֣ר הָעֶלְי֗וֹן פֶּ֣תַח שַׁ֤עַר בֵּית־יְהוָה֙ הֶֽחָדָ֔שׁ בְּאָזְנֵ֖י כָּל־הָעָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): va֠yּishshema֗ mika֨yehu ben-gּemareya֧hu ben-shshapa֛n 'et-kּal-dּibere֥y yehva֖h me'a֥l hasּeֽper׃

Edified Edition (EDE)When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,

וַ֠יִּשְׁמַ֗ע מִכָ֨יְהוּ בֶן־גְּמַרְיָ֧הוּ בֶן־שָׁפָ֛ן אֶת־כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה מֵעַ֥ל הַסֵּֽפֶר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּe֤red bּeyt-hamּe֨leke֙ 'al-lishshekּa֣t hasּope֔r vehi֨nּeh-shsha֔m kּal-hashsּari֖ym yֽoshshebi֑ym 'eliyshshama֣ hasּope֡r udelaya֣hu ben-shshe֠ma'eyahu ve'elenata֨n bּen-'akebּ֜or ugemareya֧hu ben-shshapa֛n vetzideqiyּa֥hu ben-chananeya֖hu vekal-hashsּariֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

וַיֵּ֤רֶד בֵּית־הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ עַל־לִשְׁכַּ֣ת הַסֹּפֵ֔ר וְהִ֨נֵּה־שָׁ֔ם כָּל־הַשָּׂרִ֖ים יֽוֹשְׁבִ֑ים אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע הַסֹּפֵ֡ר וּדְלָיָ֣הוּ בֶן־שְׁ֠מַעְיָהוּ וְאֶלְנָתָ֨ן בֶּן־עַכְבּ֜וֹר וּגְמַרְיָ֧הוּ בֶן־שָׁפָ֛ן וְצִדְקִיָּ֥הוּ בֶן־חֲנַנְיָ֖הוּ וְכָל־הַשָּׂרִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּagּe֤d lahem֙ mika֔yehu 'e֥t kּal-hadּebari֖ym 'ashshe֣r shshame֑'a bּiqero֥ bar֛uke bּasּe֖per bּe'azene֥y ha'aֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Michaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

וַיַּגֵּ֤ד לָהֶם֙ מִכָ֔יְהוּ אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמֵ֑עַ בִּקְרֹ֥א בָר֛וּךְ בַּסֵּ֖פֶר בְּאָזְנֵ֥י הָעָֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshelech֨u kal-hashsּari֜ym 'el-bּar֗uke 'et-yehudi֡y bּen-ne֠taneyahu bּen-shshelemeya֣hu ben-kּushshiy֮ le'mor֒ hamּegilּa֗h 'ashshe֨r qara֤'ta bּahּ֙ bּe'azene֣y ha'a֔m qache֥nּah beyadeka֖ vale֑ke va֠yּiqּach bּar֨uke bּen-neriyּa֤hu 'et-hamּegilּah֙ bּeyad֔o vayּabo֖ 'aleyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, "Take in your hand the roll wherein you hast read in the ears of the people, and come." So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came to them.

וַיִּשְׁלְח֨וּ כָל־הַשָּׂרִ֜ים אֶל־בָּר֗וּךְ אֶת־יְהוּדִ֡י בֶּן־נְ֠תַנְיָהוּ בֶּן־שֶׁלֶמְיָ֣הוּ בֶן־כּוּשִׁי֮ לֵאמֹר֒ הַמְּגִלָּ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָרָ֤אתָ בָּהּ֙ בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הָעָ֔ם קָחֶ֥נָּה בְיָדְךָ֖ וָלֵ֑ךְ וַ֠יִּקַּח בָּר֨וּךְ בֶּן־נֵרִיָּ֤הוּ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּה֙ בְּיָד֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֖א אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'mer֣u 'ela֔yv shshe֣b na֔ uqera'e֖nּah bּe'azene֑ynu vayּiqera֥ bar֖uke bּe'azeneyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And they said to him, "Sit down now, and read it in our ears." So Baruch read it in their ears.

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֔יו שֵׁ֣ב נָ֔א וּקְרָאֶ֖נָּה בְּאָזְנֵ֑ינוּ וַיִּקְרָ֥א בָר֖וּךְ בְּאָזְנֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֗y kּeshshame'am֙ 'et-kּal-hadּebari֔ym pּachad֖u 'i֣yshsh 'el-re'e֑hu vayּoֽ'meru֙ 'el-bּar֔uke hagּe֤yd nagּiyd֙ lamּe֔leke 'e֥t kּal-hadּebari֖ym ha'eֽlּeh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and said to Baruch, "We will surely tell the king of all these words."

וַיְהִ֗י כְּשָׁמְעָם֙ אֶת־כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֔ים פָּחֲד֖וּ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל־רֵעֵ֑הוּ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אֶל־בָּר֔וּךְ הַגֵּ֤יד נַגִּיד֙ לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'e֨t-bּar֔uke shsha'al֖u le'mo֑r hagּed-na֣ la֔nu 'e֗yke kּata֛betּa 'et-kּal-hadּebari֥ym ha'e֖lּeh mipּiֽyv׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And they asked Baruch, saying, "Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth?"

וְאֶ֨ת־בָּר֔וּךְ שָׁאֲל֖וּ לֵאמֹ֑ר הַגֶּד־נָ֣א לָ֔נוּ אֵ֗יךְ כָּתַ֛בְתָּ אֶת־כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה מִפִּֽיו׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo֤'mer lahem֙ bּar֔uke mipּiyv֙ yiqera֣ 'ela֔y 'e֥t kּal-hadּebari֖ym ha'e֑lּeh va'ani֛y kּote֥b 'al-hasּe֖per bּadּeyֽo׃p

Edified Edition (EDE)Then Baruch answered them, "He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book."

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהֶם֙ בָּר֔וּךְ מִפִּיו֙ יִקְרָ֣א אֵלַ֔י אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַאֲנִ֛י כֹּתֵ֥ב עַל־הַסֵּ֖פֶר בַּדְּיֽוֹ׃פ

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּo'mer֤u hashsּariym֙ 'el-bּar֔uke le֥ke hisּate֖r 'atּa֣h veyiremeya֑hu ve'i֥yshsh 'al-yeda֖ 'eypo֥h 'atּeֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then said the princes to Baruch, "Go, hide you, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you be."

וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ הַשָּׂרִים֙ אֶל־בָּר֔וּךְ לֵ֥ךְ הִסָּתֵ֖ר אַתָּ֣ה וְיִרְמְיָ֑הוּ וְאִ֥ישׁ אַל־יֵדַ֖ע אֵיפֹ֥ה אַתֶּֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּabo֤'u 'el-hamּe֨leke֙ chatze֔rah ve'et-hamּegilּa֣h hipeqi֔du bּelishshekּa֖t 'eliyshshama֣ hasּope֑r vayּagּi֨ydu֙ bּe'azene֣y hamּe֔leke 'e֖t kּal-hadּebariֽym׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.

וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ אֶל־הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ חָצֵ֔רָה וְאֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֣ה הִפְקִ֔דוּ בְּלִשְׁכַּ֖ת אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע הַסֹּפֵ֑ר וַיַּגִּ֨ידוּ֙ בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִֽים׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayּishshela֨ch hamּe֜leke 'et-yehudi֗y laqa֨chat֙ 'et-hamּegilּa֔h vayּi֨qּache֔ha milּishshekּa֖t 'eliyshshama֣ hasּope֑r vayּiqera'e֤ha yehudiy֙ bּe'azene֣y hamּe֔leke ube'azeney֙ kּal-hashsּari֔ym ha'omedi֖ym me'a֥l hamּeֽleke׃

Edified Edition (EDE)So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.

וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־יְהוּדִ֗י לָקַ֨חַת֙ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֔ה וַיִּ֨קָּחֶ֔הָ מִלִּשְׁכַּ֖ת אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע הַסֹּפֵ֑ר וַיִּקְרָאֶ֤הָ יְהוּדִי֙ בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וּבְאָזְנֵי֙ כָּל־הַשָּׂרִ֔ים הָעֹמְדִ֖ים מֵעַ֥ל הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vehamּe֗leke yoshsheb֙ bּe֣yt hacho֔rep bּacho֖deshsh hatּeshshiy'i֑y ve'et-ha'a֖ch lepana֥yv mebo'aֽret׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

וְהַמֶּ֗לֶךְ יוֹשֵׁב֙ בֵּ֣ית הַחֹ֔רֶף בַּחֹ֖דֶשׁ הַתְּשִׁיעִ֑י וְאֶת־הָאָ֖ח לְפָנָ֥יו מְבֹעָֽרֶת׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֣y ׀ kּiqer֣o yehudi֗y shshalo֣shsh dּelatot֮ ve'arebּa'ah֒ yiֽqera'e֨ha֙ bּeta֣'ar hasּope֔r vehashshele֕ke 'el-ha'e֖shsh 'ashshe֣r 'el-ha'a֑ch 'ad-tּom֙ kּal-hamּegilּa֔h 'al-ha'e֖shsh 'ashshe֥r 'al-ha'aֽch׃

Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

וַיְהִ֣י ׀ כִּקְר֣וֹא יְהוּדִ֗י שָׁלֹ֣שׁ דְּלָתוֹת֮ וְאַרְבָּעָה֒ יִֽקְרָעֶ֨הָ֙ בְּתַ֣עַר הַסֹּפֵ֔ר וְהַשְׁלֵ֕ךְ אֶל־הָאֵ֖שׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶל־הָאָ֑ח עַד־תֹּם֙ כָּל־הַמְּגִלָּ֔ה עַל־הָאֵ֖שׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־הָאָֽח׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): velo֣ pachad֔u velo֥ qare'֖u 'et-bּigedeyhe֑m hamּe֨leke֙ vekal-'abada֔yv hashshּo֣me'i֔ym 'e֥t kּal-hadּebari֖ym ha'eֽlּeh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

וְלֹ֣א פָחֲד֔וּ וְלֹ֥א קָרְע֖וּ אֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶ֑ם הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ וְכָל־עֲבָדָ֔יו הַשֹּׁ֣מְעִ֔ים אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vegam֩ 'elenata֨n udelaya֤hu ugemareya֨hu֙ hipegּi֣'u bamּe֔leke lebiletּi֥y shsero֖p 'et-hamּegilּa֑h velo֥ shshama֖ 'aleyheֽm׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.

וְגַם֩ אֶלְנָתָ֨ן וּדְלָיָ֤הוּ וּגְמַרְיָ֨הוּ֙ הִפְגִּ֣עוּ בַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לְבִלְתִּ֥י שְׂרֹ֖ף אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֑ה וְלֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayetzaue֣h ha֠mּeleke 'et-yeracheme'e֨l bּen-hamּe֜leke ve'et-shseraya֣hu ben-'azeriy'e֗l ve'et-shsheֽlemeya֨hu֙ bּeֽn-'abedּe'e֔l laqa֨chat֙ 'et-bּar֣uke hasּope֔r ve'e֖t yiremeya֣hu hanּabi֑y vayּasetּire֖m yehvaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet: but the LORD hid them.

וַיְצַוֶּ֣ה הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ אֶת־יְרַחְמְאֵ֨ל בֶּן־הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ וְאֶת־שְׂרָיָ֣הוּ בֶן־עַזְרִיאֵ֗ל וְאֶת־שֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֨הוּ֙ בֶּֽן־עַבְדְּאֵ֔ל לָקַ֨חַת֙ אֶת־בָּר֣וּךְ הַסֹּפֵ֔ר וְאֵ֖ת יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֑יא וַיַּסְתִּרֵ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): vayehi֥y debar-yehva֖h 'eֽl-yiremeya֑hu 'achare֣y ׀ shsero֣p hamּe֗leke 'et-hamּegilּah֙ ve'et-hadּebari֔ym 'ashshe֨r kּata֥b bּar֛uke mipּi֥y yiremeya֖hu le'moֽr׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ אַחֲרֵ֣י ׀ שְׂרֹ֣ף הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּה֙ וְאֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר כָּתַ֥ב בָּר֛וּךְ מִפִּ֥י יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): shsh֥ub qach-leka֖ megilּa֣h 'ache֑ret uketo֣b 'ale֗yha 'e֤t kּal-hadּebariym֙ hari֣'shshoni֔ym 'ashshe֣r hay֗u 'al-hamּegilּah֙ hari֣'shshona֔h 'ashshe֥r shsara֖p yehoyaqi֥ym meֽleke-yehudaֽh׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Take you again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned."

שׁ֥וּב קַח־לְךָ֖ מְגִלָּ֣ה אַחֶ֑רֶת וּכְתֹ֣ב עָלֶ֗יהָ אֵ֤ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִים֙ הָרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָי֗וּ עַל־הַמְּגִלָּה֙ הָרִ֣אשֹׁנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂרַ֖ף יְהוֹיָקִ֥ים מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָֽה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): ve'al-yehoyaqi֤ym meֽleke-yehudah֙ tּo'ma֔r kּo֖h 'ama֣r yehva֑h 'a֠tּah shsara֜petּa 'et-hamּegilּa֤h hazּo't֙ le'mo֔r madּu'a֩ kּata֨betּa 'ale֜yha le'mo֗r bּoֽ'-yab֤o meֽleke-bּabel֙ vehishshechiyt֙ 'et-ha'a֣retz hazּo֔'t vehishshebּi֥yt mimּe֖nּah 'ada֥m ubehemaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"And you shall say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, 'Thus says the LORD; You hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast you written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?'"

וְעַל־יְהוֹיָקִ֤ים מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה֙ תֹּאמַ֔ר כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה אַ֠תָּה שָׂרַ֜פְתָּ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֤ה הַזֹּאת֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר מַדּוּעַ֩ כָּתַ֨בְתָּ עָלֶ֜יהָ לֵאמֹ֗ר בֹּֽא־יָב֤וֹא מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶל֙ וְהִשְׁחִית֙ אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את וְהִשְׁבִּ֥ית מִמֶּ֖נָּה אָדָ֥ם וּבְהֵמָֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): lake֞n kּoֽh-'ama֣r yehva֗h 'al-yehֽoyaqiym֙ me֣leke yehuda֔h lo'-yiֽheyeh-lּ֥o yoshshe֖b 'al-kּisּe֣ davi֑d venibelato֙ tּiֽheye֣h mushshele֔ket lacho֥reb bּayּ֖om velaqּe֥rach bּalּaֽyelah׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Therefore thus says the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; 'He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.'"

לָכֵ֞ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה עַל־יְהֽוֹיָקִים֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה לֹא־יִֽהְיֶה־לּ֥וֹ יוֹשֵׁ֖ב עַל־כִּסֵּ֣א דָוִ֑ד וְנִבְלָתוֹ֙ תִּֽהְיֶ֣ה מֻשְׁלֶ֔כֶת לַחֹ֥רֶב בַּיּ֖וֹם וְלַקֶּ֥רַח בַּלָּֽיְלָה׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): upaqadetּi֨y 'ala֧yv ve'al-zare'֛o ve'al-'abada֖yv 'et-'avona֑m vehebe'ti֣y 'a֠leyhem ve'al-yoshshebe֨y yerushshalai֜m ve'el-'i֣yshsh yehuda֗h 'e֧t kּal-hara'a֛h 'ashsher-dּibּa֥retּiy 'aleyhe֖m velo֥ shshameֽ'u׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)"'And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not.'"

וּפָקַדְתִּ֨י עָלָ֧יו וְעַל־זַרְע֛וֹ וְעַל־עֲבָדָ֖יו אֶת־עֲוֺנָ֑ם וְהֵבֵאתִ֣י עֲ֠לֵיהֶם וְעַל־יֹשְׁבֵ֨י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם וְאֶל־אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֗ה אֵ֧ת כָּל־הָרָעָ֛ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א שָׁמֵֽעוּ׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): veyiremeya֜hu laqa֣ch ׀ megilּa֣h 'ache֗ret vaֽyּitּenahּ֮ 'el-bּar֣uke bּen-neriyּahu֮ hasּoper֒ vayּiketּo֤b 'ale֨yha֙ mipּi֣y yiremeya֔hu 'e֚t kּal-dּibere֣y hasּe֔per 'ashshe֥r shsara֛p yehoyaqi֥ym meֽleke-yehuda֖h bּa'e֑shsh ve'֨od nosa֧p 'aleyhe֛m dּebari֥ym rabּi֖ym kּaheֽmּah׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides to them many like words.

וְיִרְמְיָ֜הוּ לָקַ֣ח ׀ מְגִלָּ֣ה אַחֶ֗רֶת וַֽיִּתְּנָהּ֮ אֶל־בָּר֣וּךְ בֶּן־נֵרִיָּהוּ֮ הַסֹּפֵר֒ וַיִּכְתֹּ֤ב עָלֶ֨יהָ֙ מִפִּ֣י יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ אֵ֚ת כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֣י הַסֵּ֔פֶר אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂרַ֛ף יְהוֹיָקִ֥ים מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֖ה בָּאֵ֑שׁ וְע֨וֹד נוֹסַ֧ף עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם דְּבָרִ֥ים רַבִּ֖ים כָּהֵֽמָּה׃ס
