Chapter 47

Phonetic (Hebrew): ashshe֨r haya֧h debar-yehva֛h 'el-yiremeya֥hu hanּabi֖y 'el-pּelishshetּi֑ym bּete֛rem yakּe֥h pare'o֖h 'et-'azּaֽh׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.

אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיָ֧ה דְבַר־יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־יִרְמְיָ֥הוּ הַנָּבִ֖יא אֶל־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים בְּטֶ֛רֶם יַכֶּ֥ה פַרְעֹ֖ה אֶת־עַזָּֽה׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): kּo֣h ׀ 'ama֣r yehva֗h hinּeh-ma֜yim 'oli֤ym mitzּapon֙ vehayu֙ lena֣chal shshote֔p veyishshetepu֙ 'e֣retz umelo'a֔hּ 'i֖yr veyo֣shshebey ba֑hּ vezaֽ'aqu֙ haֽ'ada֔m veheyli֕l kּo֖l yoshshe֥b ha'aֽretz׃

Edified Edition (EDE)Thus says the LORD; "Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl."

כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה הִנֵּה־מַ֜יִם עֹלִ֤ים מִצָּפוֹן֙ וְהָיוּ֙ לְנַ֣חַל שׁוֹטֵ֔ף וְיִשְׁטְפוּ֙ אֶ֣רֶץ וּמְלוֹאָ֔הּ עִ֖יר וְיֹ֣שְׁבֵי בָ֑הּ וְזָֽעֲקוּ֙ הָֽאָדָ֔ם וְהֵילִ֕ל כֹּ֖ל יוֹשֵׁ֥ב הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): miqּ֗ol shshaֽ'atat֙ pּares֣ot 'abּiyra֔yv mera֣'ashsh lerikebּ֔o ham֖on gּalegּilּa֑yv loֽ'-hipen֤u 'abot֙ 'el-bּani֔ym meֽripey֖on yadaֽyim׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;"

מִקּ֗וֹל שַֽׁעֲטַת֙ פַּרְס֣וֹת אַבִּירָ֔יו מֵרַ֣עַשׁ לְרִכְבּ֔וֹ הֲמ֖וֹן גַּלְגִּלָּ֑יו לֹֽא־הִפְנ֤וּ אָבוֹת֙ אֶל־בָּנִ֔ים מֵֽרִפְי֖וֹן יָדָֽיִם׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): al-hayּ֗om habּa'֙ lishshed֣od 'et-kּal-pּelishshetּi֔ym lehakeri֤yt letzor֙ uletziyd֔on kּo֖l shsari֣yd 'oze֑r kּiֽy-shshode֤d yehvah֙ 'et-pּelishshetּi֔ym shshe'eri֖yt 'i֥y kapetּֽor׃

Edified Edition (EDE)"Because of the day that comes to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remains: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor."

עַל־הַיּ֗וֹם הַבָּא֙ לִשְׁד֣וֹד אֶת־כָּל־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים לְהַכְרִ֤ית לְצֹר֙ וּלְצִיד֔וֹן כֹּ֖ל שָׂרִ֣יד עֹזֵ֑ר כִּֽי־שֹׁדֵ֤ד יְהוָה֙ אֶת־פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים שְׁאֵרִ֖ית אִ֥י כַפְתּֽוֹר׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): bּa֤'ah qarechah֙ 'el-'azּa֔h nidemeta֥h 'ashsheqel֖on shshe'eri֣yt 'imeqa֑m 'ad-mata֖y tּitegּodaֽdiy׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long will you cut yourself?

בָּ֤אָה קָרְחָה֙ אֶל־עַזָּ֔ה נִדְמְתָ֥ה אַשְׁקְל֖וֹן שְׁאֵרִ֣ית עִמְקָ֑ם עַד־מָתַ֖י תִּתְגּוֹדָֽדִי׃ס

Phonetic (Hebrew): h֗oy che֚reb laֽyhva֔h 'ad-'a֖nah lo֣ tishsheqo֑tiy he'aֽsepiy֙ 'al-tּa'ere֔ke herage'i֖y vadoֽmּiy׃

Edified Edition (EDE)O you sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere you be quiet? put up yourself into your scabbard, rest, and be still.

ה֗וֹי חֶ֚רֶב לַֽיהוָ֔ה עַד־אָ֖נָה לֹ֣א תִשְׁקֹ֑טִי הֵאָֽסְפִי֙ אַל־תַּעְרֵ֔ךְ הֵרָגְעִ֖י וָדֹֽמִּי׃

Phonetic (Hebrew): e֣yke tּishsheqo֔tiy vaֽyhva֖h tziuah-la֑hּ 'eֽl-'ashsheqel֛on ve'el-ch֥op hayּa֖m shsha֥m ye'adaֽhּ׃s

Edified Edition (EDE)How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD has given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the seashore? there has He appointed it.

אֵ֣יךְ תִּשְׁקֹ֔טִי וַֽיהוָ֖ה צִוָּה־לָ֑הּ אֶֽל־אַשְׁקְל֛וֹן וְאֶל־ח֥וֹף הַיָּ֖ם שָׁ֥ם יְעָדָֽהּ׃ס
